Retro food with a retro soundtrack. Think Sly and the Family Stone. Nice simple uncluttered decor with tables quite far apart. It's been a while since I have been in a restaurant where there is no chance of following the conversation at another table. Friendly service.
Food was a little uneven but mostly good. We started with a bar snack of crispy anchovy. These were deep fried anchovy fillets which I found rather intriguiging but my companion found impossibly salty. Was happy to try these, but probably wouldn't order them again.
We both had sole as our main. Big piece of fish, though not grilled as stated on the menu. Battered or heavily floured and pan fried instead. Very nicely cooked though, with a cockle butter that tasted of preserved lemon in the background and served with a pleasant creamed kale.
Wild garlic fries were excellent. Thin shoe string fries, very crisp and sprinkled with pan fried garlic greens. Very tasty and redolent with heady garlic.
I didn't like our other side of avocado, cucumber, and spinach salad garnished with crispy capers. I ordered this because I wanted to try the deep fried capers. The oil in the vinaigrette tasted old or maybe even rancid. Or maybe the oil used for frying the capers was over used. At any rate, the vinaigrette didn't taste fresh at all. When I mentioned this to our waitress we were offered desserts on the house as compensation. We were too full, but that was a nice gesture.
We ate at a discounted soft re-launch price as they are testing out a new menu. At full price including a bottle of house wine our bill would have been £60.
Retro dining has come to Exmouth Market in the form of Coin Laundry! Situated at the top of the Market this restaurant and bar which was launched late last year offers nostalgic British comfort food. I recently went to try their all-day menu on a very rainy spring day and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Coin Laundry is a casual, retro cafe/restaurant with a new breakfast menu. Open from 8am Coin Laundry serve unique breakfast options such as grilled grapefruit with brown sugar. I settled on the banana pancakes, which come with a sprinkling of walnuts and drizzled in syrup. The pancakes at Coin Laundry are
Mike and I are currently in the process of buying a house in East London that was last decorated in the late 1970s. The bathroom fittings are pale peach, the floors are lined with the carpet equivalent of a terrible migraine, and the wallpaper is so bad, it’s almost good. Almost. The previous owner, an elderly lady with an impressive collection of arm-wrestling trophies, had once seen fit to install a very small bar in the living room. With a Carlsberg tap.
I absolutely LOVE this place.
We were looking online for a wedding venue and came across Coin Laundry because it was a really affordable option for us to get married in London. We went to have a look around and test out the food, and we instantly loved it! We tried the Sunday roast with some other sides on the menu and a couple of cocktails – everything was incredible. Also we loved the style and atmosphere of the venue – it has a super relaxed, casual vibe, and very cool understated décor without feeling boring.
We went back on a few separate occasions before the wedding to try more food / drinks and look at the venue again and every single time we went there, everything was perfect – venue, atmosphere, food, staff and service all 10/10!
Zac, Robbie and Jake were all so helpful right from the beginning of the booking/planning process, and on the day we met the manager Sonny and his team who were brilliant and made everything run so smoothly! The venue was set up beautifully, exactly how we had hoped, they listened to all our requests and we didn’t have to do anything ourselves which was great and took away the stress on the day. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a nicer team to look after us on the day, everyone was so attentive and friendly!
So many of our guests commented on how amazing all of the food was too (we had starters, mains and an evening buffet). It was all slightly non-traditional and way more interesting than the usual wedding meals you get, so we were really happy. So impressed that they managed to get 70ish people served and cleared so quickly too!
After the meal, everything was cleared away so quickly on the ground floor whilst we had all moved downstairs into the basement for the first dance. The staff changed over for the evening and Billy and the bar team were all so lovely too and kept things running perfectly. They were so patient with us at the end too, when they were trying to clear up and go home at the end of the night, with lots of very drunk guests who were not moving out particularly quickly!
The whole team at Coin Laundry were fantastic and worked so hard – we are so grateful to you all, thank you so much for an amazing day! We will definitely be back in the future (although just for food & drinks, hopefully I won’t be getting married again anytime soon!)

Stumbled upon this wonderful place for diner. Food and drinks were perfect!! My daughter raved over her delicious chicken pastilla!! Thank you for a wonderful evening!! Highly recommend!!
We had our engagement party here and I couldn’t recommend this venue more highly. The food was amazing, and all our guests told us so!
The drinks were great, and to top it all off the staff and service were superb. Not only were they super polite and proactive about making it an amazing event… but they were also reassuring, helpful and went above and beyond.
Everyone had an amazing time, it’ll be a night we always remember… we’ll be sure to keep going as it’s been one of our favourite spots in London long before this night!
Thanks again, the whole evening was magical!
Wonderful location for a celebration. We had our wedding reception here and the staff, food and venue were just wonderful.
Was there last night. Awesome staff (Billy is superb on the cocktails), super attentive and very knowledgeable. Also probably had the best cooked bavette steak I’ve had in London this year 👌🏽
Nice addition to Exmouth Market. Had drinks, brunch and Sunday roast there on various occasions and all three have been pleasant experiences. Food is good quality and the bloody marys too (ask for it extra spicy), staff are always nice too.
Nice local bar. They have a few beers on tap and 1 cider.
Gets a bit busier on the weekend.
Has some outside space, but its right on the road, there are better potions on Exmouth market.
Best Sunday roast I've had in London. Potatoes were perfect.
The bartender Richard was really lovely! Very attentive and friendly and he made a lovely Mai Tai with beautiful presentation - would definitely come here again :)
Went coin laundry to perform stand up comedy.
Nice place, good service from staff with good food available.
Great comedy night slap and Giggle Comedy every 2nd Tuesday.
We had our wedding reception at the coin laundry in Nov 2019 and I couldn't compliment or recommend the coin laundry and their staff enough. Everything was so straightforward from start to finish - Zac the Events & Sales Manager was extremely helpful and quick to respond to all of our queries and Karolina and Vanessa at the Coin Laundry both looked after us as though we had all been friends for years. The venue was transformed into an incredibly welcoming space and they even set out our wedding cheese cake with all the fruit and crackers. All of our guests loved the food and the feasting style menu was a lovely way of serving everything (we recommend the slow cooked lamb).
I'm sure we will be customers for years to come, thanks guys for making our day a dream come true.
Went for a private music event in the basement. Was a great evening. Cosy and loved the acoustics in the basement. Good selection of beers. Food looked good (although I didn't have it.). Friendly service.
