Is it possible not to love this place? I totally fell in love with the atmosphere, with the menu and the drinks and I don’t want it to stop! ♥️
I absolutely love everything about this place. Excellent choice of cocktails, I tried the mad hatter and Colour changing which were so tasty. The ambience, the location is perfect and I think the price is justified for what they serve you. The best part they opened another one in shoreditch where close to where I live so many nights that I have just hoped in here with friends. However the shoreditch one wasn’t as lively as the Nevis marks one. This is my highly recommended places in London if you want to enjoy a good drink.
Lovely place.. Absolutely buzzing during the week, guess Coz is located in the city, not sure if it would be this busy on the weekends. Beautiful bar, great cocktails, we didn't try the food but really enjoyed our drinks and the vibe. Great place to take visitors.
Came here this afternoon with a friend to try there lovely unique cocktails as I have seen and heard about. The staff seem friendly, the atmosphere was buzzing but with a relaxed tone. They played a good mix of music. The venue is lovely with there over sized sofas very comfortable
The drinks were 10 out of 10 they taested grate. With some of the drinks you get to buy a Alchemist flask that you keep which is a nice thing to have.
A truly unique experience! It feels as though you’ve walked into a vintage scientific laboratory. The cocktail menu styled after the periodic table makes it a fun experience to choose a cocktail. The bar does get busy but watching bartenders make foaming cocktails in apparatus that look like scientific experiments makes it worth the wait! The ambience is vintage chic and lively, particularly on the weekend. One of my new favourite places and always great fun hangout to go with friends and meet new people.
We just love that place• experienced bartenders• great food!
••• This place is our favourite to grab a drink and even for dining!
••• tried their crab tacos: amazing fresh crab but wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t tolerate seafood taste!
••• Their shrimps pops are exquisite!
London has many fine places to enjoy cocktails, however visiting The Alchemist is a whole new experience! They serve clever, unique cocktails in this alchemy-themed bar...some of the must-haves include: the screwball (So delicious), the bubblebath (as in the picture attached) and the bubblegum mojito (it has popping candy). We went for the cocktail masterclass where the mixologist was so lovely and talked us through the creations from start to finish! Absolutely loved it!
Cocktails: 5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Affordability: £8-£12 per cocktail
Cocktail masterclass: £35pp for 3 cocktails, £40pp including snacks
Wonderful and original cocktails in a vibrant and mystical atmosphere! Perfect if you want to dinner and enjoy the "nightlife" at the same time!
I invited my mother here for dinner. We got a variety of dishes, it was pretty good but not amazing. The place was quite empty when we got there although i absolutely loved the decor in the place and definitely on a night where its packed it wouldve probably changed the whole experience for us..
My friends took me here when I came to London. Was really impressed with the cocktails. It was just so entertaining to watch the bartenders put them together!!
I love my Fridays, I relax a little at work and enjoy our ‘4 o’clock is beer o’clock’ motto whilst we count down to the minutes where we finish at 4.30pm. How I don’t miss retail at all where we can spend our Friday evenings in the sun and enjoy a beer or cocktail with your colleagues. Last Friday was an exception, I really wanted to see a really good friend of mine who I used to work with back in my retail days and when she’s not ill, she’s broke so she made herself difficult to meet up with. Thankfully, I managed to lure her out and treated her to some complimentary cocktails at The Alchemist in Liverpool Street. I have always wanted to come here and didn’t have much of an expectation but there was a great ambience here. I believe there were a few stag do’s by the bar so we decided to chill in the restaurant area where I can actually talk and ‘hear’ my friend speak. Their wine and cocktail menu were impressively extensive and as recommended the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was the most popular sharing cocktail and we couldn’t leave without trying.
Part of the molecular madness cocktails, “The Alchemist’s newest creations carefully crafted in our secret laboratory. We use a variety of molecular drinks-making techniques to surprise, baffle and confound your taste buds in a most pleasant manner.”
My friend and I were so excited to see the siphon making an appearance to create our Mad Hatter’s cocktail. In this cocktail there’s: Ketel One, elderflower liqueur, Cointreau, citrus, gomme and water boiled up and infused with a fresh fruit mix in the siphon. Then, after a cloud of frozen ice mists over, it is then served warm and smoking in tea cups! So so cute! Not only did it look awesomely cool and spectacular, it actually tasted delicious. With so much alcohol content in there I was surprised that the cocktail tasted more like fruit water with a hint of alcohol. But I am not complaining because that’s my favourite kind of cocktail, fruity and delicious without the alcohol empowering the drink. The Mad Hatter’s sharing cocktail is £20 on the menu, definitely something you would order for coming to The Alchemist.
I wanted to sample more of the molecular madness so I ordered the intriguing Bubble Bath cocktail (at £7.50): Bombay Dry, Chambord, Aperol, apple juice and a dash of sugar syrup combined with a little Alchemist magic! By Alchemist magic it’s exactly how you would imagine a bubble bath in a cocktail glass. Check out my instagram for more pics and video in action. My friend had the Solero cocktail (at £7.50): Passoã, Ketel One, lemon and lime juice, orange and apple juice with a touch of mango syrup all garnished with white chocolate foam. I took a sip out of hers…I was a tad jealous and wanted a Solero myself, it tasted exactly like a Solero which is one of my favourite ice creams by the way. It was a fantastic evening with attentive waitresses (I had no waiters…hmm) and I cannot wait to come back here again!
Thank you The Alchemist for the complimentary evening of drinks and sharing platter from your menu and I cannot wait to come back here again with my friends.

Great place for after work or weekend drinks ... The cocktails are so creative and taste great. Staff is friendly and the ambiance is great. Certainly going back!!
Suits, skyscrapers and scandal is what most springs to mind when you think of the City. Buzzing during the week, deserted at the weekend and not always the cheapest place to wine and dine, London's Square Mile doesn't have quite the same pull as some of its more characterful counterparts. Which is perhaps why The Alchemist chose to set up shop in Bevis Marks, a former banking hall just round the corner from the Heron Tower, the Gherkin and 20 Fenchurch Street - to change the scenery of city socialising.
It's an impeccably finished location, complimenting the building's beautiful original features with strings of industrial style lighting and a gloriously polished bar front and back. Deep leather sofas frame the windows while high tables allow you to get intimate - there's a decadent atmosphere too, a warmth that encourages you to stay for just another round, surely.
And talking of rounds, we were keen to put The Alchemist's cocktail menu through its paces. No ordinary cocktail menu this - as the name suggests, these concoctions aim to please with their signature, crafted 'Molecular Madness' drinks taking mixology to a whole other level. Forget about changing water into wine, the brilliant barmen use all sorts of secret tricks to conjure up new creations.
We started with the Dead Red Zombie - a fruity number with a rum base that came in a tall glass, topped with passionfruit, and bubbling and smoking like the mist in a horror movie. Our barman explained that they use a secret ingredient that reacts with the alcohol to produce this ghoulish effect, just perfect for Halloween, and incredibly moreish without being too sweet.
Next up was the Maple Manhattan - a Wild Turkey bourbon with bitters, citrus and a fluffy maple syrup foam that added sweetness to the dry whiskey. Served in a martini coupe, this was a sultry, warm and yet not too heavy starter for ten that hit the sweet spot jackpot.
And, knowing that every barman has his favourite, we asked for a recommendation and were presented with the Mad Hatter's Tea Party to share. A chemistry set was brought to the table, herbs and fruits were placed in glass beakers and after some boiling and burning and more secret ingredient pouring, a fragrant steam was being poured into china tea cups as an interpretation of our little sumer picnic. With mint, strawberries and elderflower all in the mix, this tasted like a crazy professor had got his hands on a classic Pimm's recipe and used plenty of vodka and Cointreau for good measure.
The great thing about The Alchemist is how interactive the drinks feel; instead of the traditional transactional experience, the friendly and knowledgeable team here really go to great lengths to make you feel involved. If you prefer to err on the more familiar side of the menu, they have whole sections for classics, for sharing, for the abstainers and even for those wanting a commemorative hip flask. And if you're one of those people who like getting their hands dirty - there are even cocktail masterclasses where they walk you through making and drinking some of your favourites.
But it isn't all about the cocktails. The Alchemist's open all day, serving up breakfast for you early risers and ones for the road for you late leavers. The restaurant covers all bases so it's the ideal location for a lazy weekend when the thought of suits, skyscrapers and scandal can take a very definite backseat - let these sorcerers work their magic.

I'm not a big fan of cocktails but after having cocktails here I have changed my mind.
The cocktails are absolutely outstanding and prices are reasonable.
Bar has really nice deco and very friendly and fast bartenders.Highly recommended! I will definitely come back again soon!!!
Great bar, lovely decor - very chic. What I like the most about the place is their easygoing vibe. The bartenders are friendly but the staff can be a little rude.
The drinks are the star of the night - albeit a little sweet. My favourite was their in-house bottled drink called "woo woo" and another one called "smokey paloma". Fairly reasonably priced as well!
The Vibe
The Alchemist is the kind of saloon you’d imagine Don Draper in. It’s huge, and styled like a New York high-end 50’s brasserie—low lighting, banquette seating, chrome fittings and polished oak tables—an image helped along by the vintage silent cartoons projected onto the walls in the upstairs area. The crowd ain’t so different either; situated just a stone’s throw away from the Gherkin, it attracts ambitious, sharp-suited city types looking to unwind after a hard day taking over the world.
The Order
You’re welcome to order food at The Alchemist, and the menu is notably affordable given the crowd (you can tuck into Steak Frites for a tenner). It’s an all-purpose menu that covers breakfast and brunch, before moving into a semi-standard lunch and dinner offering including burgers, Thai curry, Asian sharing platters, and fajitas. But it’s not really about that. The Alchemist is primarily a bar practising molecular mixology, providing cocktail concoctions of a theatrical and unsurprisingly, alchemic nature. It also has a very worthy whisky and brandy selection because Mad Men.
The Game
There’s something truly fitting about drinking magical potions on a date. After all, what even is a date other than a search for the perfect chemical reaction; a pursuit full of flavour and spectacle, and oohs and aahs if you’re doing it right. Most of the drinks from the ‘Molecular Madness’ menu will have some kind of showstopper aspect to it – be that an unusual scent, one that changes colour, or something a bit more kinetic. The Bubble Bath for example (gin, Chambord, Aperol) is a sweet, pink cocktail that foams up like a bubble bath. Sadly it’s not big enough for you or your date to dive into, but I am sure it can provide some inspiration for later.
The Faults
Towards the end of our visit The Alchemist, already a lively place, started to get a little bit too lively. This is just what happens with a venue at this size—when it’s full it is genuinely hard to hear your date sitting across from you; throw alcohol and a bit of background house music into the mix and well, you get the picture.
Sex Factor
3. The Alchemist is impressive, accessible and affordable. While it’s not the Searcy’s bar at the top of the Gherkin, it will almost certainly create memories for you and your date, and could very well inspire you to make more.
Awesome cocktails.. keeps you intrigue to try a new drink every time you visit.. must visit place for food explorers.. equally good food.. but the place is much in buzz for its chemistry experiments in cocktails..
I was looking for a nice cocktail bar to meet some friends after a days shopping in london, and stumbled across the alchemist on zomato. We couldn't believe our luck when we arrived! A beautiful building with nice lighting and plenty of comfortable sofas! The cocktails are simply amazing, the theatre and drama that they create are wonderful, the hangovers they give are not! All drinks were extremely competitively priced and between the 40+ different ones my friends and I tried, we only discovered 1 we didn't like! I'd come here again every time I visit London and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. The best part was that on a Saturday night it wasn't too noisy or crowded, although as this place is still relatively new, I doubt that this hidden gem will remain a secret for very long!
Bar with a twist! They serve drinks nice and fast, and some of the cocktails are fun! Depend on what you order the cocktail might have steam or sparkles! The bar also offers a wide range of traditional and normal cocktails, beers, wines, etc. Good for going on a celebration.
I visited the Alchemist on the recommendation of my brother, who had first experienced its wonders in Manchester, where the bar group is primarily based.
As suggested in the name, the Alchemist is a lab of wondrous and fanciful cocktail concoctions that are complex enough to make the bar staff become truly mad scientists. The menu is mind bogglingly vast and as much as you'd like to try every cocktail in one sitting, it just isn't plausible.
The theatre of the creation really adds to the experience and makes you feel that you're part of something out of the ordinary. I don't want to recommend any cocktails as I feel the true experience lies in discovery.
As with anything like this, the enjoyment comes with a heavy price tag. But if you're looking for a truly unique experience, it's worth stumping up the cash.
Completing a busy start to the week was a press launch at The Alchemist next to The Gherkin. It's the first London site for a primarily Manchester based bar group, famed for their molecular mischief.
After a slow start in an All Bar One atmosphere with bottles of Sol and houmous on some doritos, the cocktails started to make their mark. The poor bartenders have over 58 bonkers concoctions to memorise from a an overlong menu - they were all over it.
You might think the "molecular madness" section would be their five wackiest creations, but over 21 of their drinks fall into this category. There's beer foam, smoke, dry ice, colour changing drinks, flames, a transparent cuba libre, strawberry caviar, raspberry dust and much more to keep an eye out for.
The Smoked Manhattan and Hot & Cold Espresso Tini (cold chantilly cream layer and a boiling espresso martini) were causing a stir on the bar. Impressively, most of these eye catching drinks are around the £7.50 mark, a Manchester hangover that surely won't last long in the shadows of The Gherkin.
Elsewhere on the menu, there are barrel aged cocktails (the Negroni was a success), hipflask cocktails (which can be kept for an extra £4), sharing kettles and soda syphons, classics (which could be omitted), and even some mocktails (which are for once appropriately priced at £3.50/£4).
Bubblebath and Smokey Paloma impressed on taste and aesthetics, faring better than White Chocolate Raspberry Martini and a Lavender Daiquiri. Going off menu (not long enough...) also paid dividends with a delightful stirred Mezcal & Chocolate Bitters combo.
But the silliest drink of all, by some way, is the Mad Hatter's Tea Party (£20 between two). A mix of Green Mark Russian vodka, Briottet elderflower liqueur, Cointreau, citron gomme and water is boiled up at the table, and infused with fresh fruit and herbs. It is then served warm, with smoke billowing all over the table - it's quite a sight. I was never expecting to be wowed by the flavours, and the temperature was on the tepid side which didn't quite work, but it is a lot of fun.
I can't comment on the food (The Alchemist won't want me to judge them on their canapés) but I can guarentee there's a drink for everyone! The prices are extremely low for the City (long may that continue) and there are some winning drinks, but I do prefer my bars to be smaller & cosier with more of a laidback soundtrack. Expect it to be very busy after work, and take your camera.

A few months ago, my friend told me about her visit to The Alchemist in Manchester, raving about the amazing cocktails they have on offer. When I eagerly researched whether they had a branch in London, they didn't. But then, like magic, I saw them pop up on twitter saying they were setting up shop in London just a few weeks later! Cue excitement.
When I saw that they were having a soft launch period with 50% off the food bill, they were pushed to the front of the to-try restaurant list and I booked us in for a Saturday night date.
It's located conveniently close to Liverpool Street station, and when we first stepped into The Alchemist we were quite impressed with the decor and style of the place. It's swanky without being too OTT, the amber lighting made it a little old school and they had a wall where they were projecting Charlie Chaplin movies.
But it was time to get down to business. The cocktail menu is quite frankly overwhelming - there is just so much choice! We laughed at our first picks, as mine was a manly looking Old Fashioned with a smokey twist, while E got some kind of frothy lavender tinted one. Gender stereotyping be gone.
I'm a kid at heart, and love these fun theatrical touches (that also do make a big difference to the taste, of course).
For food, I stuck to the macho theme and got the ribeye steak - something I hadn't had in years! E went for the burger.
I honestly didn't know what to expect from the food, as any menu that offers Japanese ramen, Thai curry, British fish & chips and Mexican fajitas in one breath makes me a little suspicious. But I was pleasantly surprised - my steak was great quality meat, cooked to a perfect medium-rare and very flavourful. E's burger was pretty good, though not great - he said the meat patty was a bit thin.
E is not a huge cocktail drinker so he stopped at one, but I had no trouble choosing another - though I did, decisions-wise. In the end I went for the White Cosmopolitan, that came with a frozen orchid.
How pretty is this ice idea? Also I have to say that these ice balls they use are so much nicer than the standard cubes - I think that it prevents the drinks from getting too watery.
We weren't exactly in need of dessert, but we went there anyway. Sticky toffee pudding, to be exact.
It was actually not as heavy and "sticky" as other ones I've had, which was good after our main courses.
And then, just as we had paid the bill, we bumped into my friend who had recommended this place, completely by coincidence! (She's the same friend I had seen the weekend prior and ran the 10K race with, and I had told her about The Alchemist opening in London.) Although she was with her boyfriend on a date night, they let us stay with them for a drink before we left them in peace for the rest of their meal.
Which meant that I had no choice but to order one last cocktail - what a hardship! She told me that I had to try one of their dessert-style cocktails, so I chose the Solero - basically a Solero ice lolly in drink form.
Even though it's sweeter than my typical taste, the citrus cut through it and it really did taste like a solero.
We said our goodbyes and rolled ourselves out of there, snapping a couple of last photos of the pretty lights.
Overall, I really enjoyed my evening here - they have some cosy looking sofas downstairs in the bar area, where I could definitely see relaxing with some innovative cocktails with my girlfriends. Hopefully that will happen soon!
You can read more details about The Alchemist on Zomato .
Ah amazing place, atmosphere, great food (not crazy dear) with attentive staff. Went there just before Halloween and it was dressed in themed decorations with themed limited cocktails.. try the French kiss cocktail if you like a good tonguing 😎😂 would recommend.
This place is fantastic. Beautiful classy aesthetic and good service. This is a good place for a date or to meet up with friends as it’s not too loud with some jazzy music in the background. The cocktails are pure art and the prices are fair. We sat at the bar and watched the barmaid prepare drinks. She clearly knew what she was doing. There is a separate section with a restaurant. Unlike so many other places in London they don’t add an additional „optional service charge“. You can tip however much you like. I can recommend this place to everyone and we’ll pop back in on our next visit.
Side note: They have AC so I recommend bringing a light jacket so you don’t get cold.
Where food is more of an after thought here, having only a limited menu, it is the specialty drinks that you really come here for.
More of a spectacular experience than a hardy one, you'll want to bring out your inner photographer for some of these masterpieces.
The friendly and skilled staff helped make the experience a fond memory, and the misses and myself will be back again

Fantastic cocktail bar. Great staff, nice atmosphere. Really unique menu. Would definitely recommend food
Toilets are downstairs but there is a disabled toilet.
Been twice in a three day span with different friends. I love the fun feel and the bartenders are warm and friendly. Lots of patience as we video and take pictures. The drinks are delicious and go down easily. I have not been disappointed. A must try experience!
I absolutely loved the cocktails here, there’s lots of choice, good flavours and fun designs. The bar staff knew exactly what they were doing, worked fast and were friendly. Would definitely return. We also had some of the salt and pepper fries which were delicious.
One of the coolest drinks I've had so far! Nice atmosphere, nice burguer but not really special chicken in a basket. The theatre on presenting the drinks and the fact that it it's very tasty would definitely make me come back.
Cool place for drinks. Great presentation of most cocktails. The food was good, as was the desert. Very helpful stuff and very polite. I would visit it again to try more cocktails.
Definitely worth a visit if you want some theatrical drinks. Better service than some of the other Alchemists around town, probably could have done with a few more bartenders. Strict ID checking on entry! 👍🏾
The drinks were delicious, and decent prices for the quality of the drinks. The mixologists are all amazing at what they do - they have incredible memories, often making 10+ cocktails at once. The drinks are always so beautifully displayed as well, there’s definitely an art to it.
It’s often quite a wait at the bar to get someone to take your order and then for your drink to be prepared, I think I was waiting about 15 minutes before my order was taken, and the drinks took another 10 minutes to be made. They’re great at what they do though, I’ve been here a few times and the drinks are always really good. The wireless charging facilities on some of the bench tables is so handy too!
Always a great experience, so I will definitely be back :)
