I was craving some ramen and decided to visit them for dinner.
What I had ?
Vegetarian ramen
What I liked the most ?
Freshly prepared ramen
What I thought?
Taste was simply average but very well priced
Visited on a Friday night. As expected there was a long queue but the line was managed efficiently and we were given a table after a 15 minute wait.
Service was nice and quick. We ordered the tonkotsu X and spicy yuzu.
When the ramen was served I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't as photogenic as I have hoped but regardless it was very delicious. The broth was the highlight of the dish. It was deep, flavourful and rich in umami. The spicy yuzu ramen is spicier than most "spicy" ramen that I have tried (not recommended for those who cannot take spice).
We will be back to try the other ramens on the menu.
Disclaimer: Went to the Kanada Ya in Angel, hence why the photos are a tad different.
Ramen is such a great comfort food. I had read that Kanada Ya had one of the best ramen in town, definitely jad to givd jf
Delicious ramen soup with mixed veggies and pork and egg. The soup is nice and thick. Perfect for a late winter evening. And the saki comes in a bottle within a larger bottle of hot water to keep it warm - a nice touch.
Proper ramen served here. Katakam-takam, tirik-mata-sa-sarap ramen that is not too oily, no overpowering spiciness and with broth that perfectly marries meat, vegetable and noodle in your mouth! Could do wagamama a huge favour by inviting them over and give them a crash course on how to do authentic ramen. Proper japanese beer to go with your ramen too! Needs to graduate from plywood seats though.
First time eating ramen and we loved it. No queues, the waitress was very nice and helped us a lot. We're thinking of trying another ramen restaurant but we hope to visit kanada ya again.
After hearing raving reviews about this place from ramen lovers, I have tried to eat here for about an year, but the long queues always send me to ippudo. Christmas and rain meant less than 5 minutes wait. I got the veggie ramen, original onigiri and calpis. The ramen was not spicy even after adding yuzu paste twice. The rice ball was bland. Calpis was a nice drink to try. I think the place is not for veggie ramen lovers and I would prefer ippudo.
Highly recommend this place especially if you're a ramen lover. Coming from New Zealand and trying all the different ramen there (not the best place to set a standard) this place had my favourite so far. Flavoursome, quick service and great atmosphere. Naruto got me into Ramen and I'm sure he'd be super impressed too. 5⭐️
Amazing ramen. That broth ahhhhhhhhh. Lip smackingly gorgeous. Noodles are cooked al dente. Karaage chicken for starter comes in a massive share-able portion - and are juicy and crispy and delicious. Green tea and black sesame soft serve for dessert. P.s. You can book at this branch so you don't have to queue outside. Win.
Kanada-Ya can never go wrong. Tried their truffle ramen today, and it was so good. Added the eggs as well and loved every bite of the dish. This place is holy grail for ramen lovers in London. Their pork broth is always mouth watering.
It might sound very odd but I'm part of a ramen Facebook group. I was invited after a discussion with a mutual Bone Daddies fan. In essence the group just posts photos of ramen for voyeuristic pleasure. I was surprised last year to find out this mutual friend thought Kanada-Ya may have surpassed Bone Daddies as his favourite. How very tempting that sounds. On the Sunday night after Sadiq Khan presented the powerful The Salesman in the cold and drizzle of Trafalgar Square, a warming bowl of broth beckoned. Luckily this popular place so near had no queue. Excellent.
My favourite tonkotsu ramen place in London so far.
Their broth is rich and thick, which is why I prefer the spicy pork meatball or the yuzu spicy versions which have spice and sourness to cut the creaminess.
I heavily recommend the tori karaage (Japanese fried chicken) the hot crispiness contrasts well with the velvety broth.
Our surprise discovery was the truffle edamame. The cheapest truffle treat I've seen in London, but packed with fragrance and flavour. I was very impressed with the combination. The truffles pair very well with the mild beans.
We ordered the matcha green tea and the special ice cream. On this visit, the special was sesame and I must say I hugely preferred it over the matcha Ice cream.
original tonkutsu ramen £10.50 (with regular noodles) – the cloudy broth had quite a strong and a deep porky flavour to it. The v-shape of the bowl was deceiving as to how much it held. I was surprised that it had more than I thought. I liked it a lot but I thought it could be better if the broth was served steaming hot and the slices of pork belly were not cold.
spicy yuzu ramen £12.00 (with regular noodles) – this was my favourite, not least because I do like spicy food. While the original tonkutsu can be porky, the citrus tang of the yuzu cuts through the porkiness of this broth and as you plough through the bowl, it gets spicier and spicier. The heat is gentle but slowly kicking in and though it is spicy, it does not numb the tastebuds. The meat served in this bowl has less fat but again the meat was cold and the broth could have been a tad warmer.
chicken karaage £4.00 – boneless crispy chicken that is not too oily, not too greasy and not dried out from the frying. The mayonnaise on the side was a nice touch – although the fried chicken did not need it – but just not quite enough for all the pieces.
matcha swirl ice-cream £4.00 – after a bowlful of noodles with one side dish, this portion of matcha ice-cream was just right to share between two but I stongly urge you not to. It was delicious; not too sweet and did not quickly melt away. Rated my second best matcha ice-cream in London so you would understand why I was so selfish as to not share.
Kanada-ya does holds the spot as my favourite ramen place in London. It was a good, satisfying meal at a reasonable price. With the dessert, I felt that my meal in Kanada-ya was complete and wholesome. Looking forward to going back soon!
Kanada Ya is by far my favourite place for ramen in London. I was so excited to finally be able to try their new store near Picadilly. I was even more happy (and surprised) that there were seats available plus no queue! I went for the hard noodles as I like them with a bite and once again they did not disappoint. The soup was fantastic and the meat very juicy and tender. I also highly recommend the fried chicken! I need to return to A) fulfill my ramen cravings and B) sample that matcha ice cream.

I'm a big fan of Japanese food. I love the diversity of it. So many people think of Japanese food and just think of sushi, but there's so much more too it, including one of my favourites - ramen. And one of my favourite places for ramen in London have just launched a second site, which is great news as it means less queuing! I've reviewed the original Kanada-ya, in Covent Garden, previously, where we had a ramen so good I can still remember all the tastes now. So I was pretty excited to visit their new site on Panton Street, just off Piccadilly.
Asian, central London, cheap eats, covent garden, dining, dining out, dinner, eating, London, lunch, ramen, restaurant review, restaurant reviews, restaurants, review, reviews, west end / 0 Comments. Kanada-Ya’s new Haymarket digs smell like some fragrant wonderland in which pigs spend their days happily rooting out truffles before ritually boiling each other alive.
Hands down the best ramen I have had in London to date. The original tonkotsu is an absolute delight...and for something a little bit different, the truffle ramen is delicious. You cannot go wrong with a smooth matcha soft serve finish either.
I recently went to see Sunset Boulevard at the London Coliseum in the heart of theatreland. It was a Tuesday evening and we needed a quick dinner before the show. A friend who knows the area well recommended I try Kanada-Ya for a bowl of ramen as it’s quick and easy and just around the corner.
We have high expectations on this place since most people who went there left positive comments. Yet, it was quite a disappointment, the portion wasn't enough, there are only 3 slices of small pork. The soup was too salty and the flavour was too intense. But if you are a ramen lover you may like the soup base
Went there the other day for the soft served ice cream (heard people go there just for it)... Two flavours for the day: green tea and miso. The miso ice team is a indeed a creative attempt, still, its salty taste is weird, haven't get used to that. The green tea ice cream tastes as good as usual. Will try sesame next time
The past few years have been good to London’s ramen lovers. What started out as a small drop in the dining scene has rippled out into a full blown tsunami as London is now flooded with places to slurp your way to noodle glory. Whether it be juggernauts like Shoryu Ramen or independents like Muga and Nanban, between them you’re never too far away from getting your fix. But above all of them, one place for me reigns supreme. That place is Kanada-ya and there newly opened second site is where I find myself for dinner.

What is it about Kanada-ya that attracts me so much that I would throw whatever credibility I have behind it? Like all good ramen, it starts with the broth and here, it is proper - 18-hour pork bone broth. Thick, meaty and subtle gelatinous, the broth is an explosion of flavours and so rich, it almost makes you forget that there is anything else in the bowl. It is a labour of love if nothing else and one can taste that no corners are cut or expense spared to create this beautiful base. The viscosity of the broth is important because it's thickness is what allows it to cling onto the ramen which makes each mouthful one to savour.
With this in mind, my favoured bowl is the pork collar Charshumen which I believe truly allows the broth to shine however, the spicy 'tan-tan' Gekikara is also delightful. Sandwiched by starters of karaage chicken and dessert of their wonderful soft serve (matcha flavour and/or black sesame) and you've got yourself a meal that directly feeds the soul.

I remember the dark pre-ramen days of London. I’m a sucker for noodles in soup – laksa, pho, wonton soup noodles all float my boat. So, when I first tasted ramen at Ippudo in New York, my mind was blown. I specifically love tonkotsu ramen where the pork bones are boiled for 18+hours to get a super-rich, creamy soup base – soup noodles are all about the soup for me.
An authentic Japanese ramen bar located in the heart of London, following the success of their branch in Holburn, Kanada-Ya has recently opened up a second restaurant in the bustly and vibrant Soho area, and I was delighted to be invited along to review their special ramen menu!. Kanada Ya Panton Street
Small trendy ramen bar that serves perfect authentic tonkotsu ramen in London. Not suggested for big group as this restaurant is rather tiny and you always have to queue up.
This thick pork broth with sliced pork belly along with perfectly cooked ramen and half boiled egg.. the whole creation is definitely made in heaven. And best way to eat it is to ditch your spoon and slurp the ramen as loud as possible and drink the thick broth straight away from the bowl!
Kanada-Ya made a big impact when it launched on St Giles High Street last year and it has remained my preferred London ramen bar since. It hasn’t always been easy to grab a walk-in seat due to its popularity and petite size, but thankfully, Kanada-Ya has met demand and earlier this month opened a second ramen bar on Panton Street, just off Haymarket.
Building upon the success of its first London outpost, the new Kanada-Ya Panton Street brings authentic ramen to the west side of Theatreland with plenty more space than at its ultra popular sister site just east in St Giles. Heck, they’ll even let ya book a table (if your party’s big enough) at this newest venture of the small but oh so slurp-tastic global group of famed ramen bars (with locations in Japan and Hong Kong).
Who’s behind it? The brand was founded by Kanada Kazuhiro in Yukuhashi, Japan, back in 2009. Size? Seating up to 56 covers over 2 floors (ground and basement). What’s on the Menu? Kanada-Ya’s signature ramen consists of noodles, Tonkotsu broth, secret sauce (imported from the original restaurant, and hand-made by Mr. Kanada), wood ear fungus mushroom (kikurage), finely sliced spring onion, chashu pork belly and a sheet of nori.
Lovely ramen bar that knows what it’s doing. We stopped in for lunch and had a lovely experience.
The broth was lovely with a great depth of flavour. There were some great side dishes that accompanied the ramen.
I had kabocha croquets which were lovely. They came with curry and home made takuan. It was so tasty.
Their ramen was great, very comforting and perfect for the cold weather. Servers were very attentive too. Must try!
I had the pleasure of dining at this ramen shop, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. David provided amazing service, making sure every aspect of our meal was perfect. Not only that, but the food was exceptional as well. The ramen was flavorful and satisfying, a true culinary delight. I can't recommend this place enough, thanks to David's outstanding service and the incredible food!!!
ありがとうございます!
The place was clean and the people there were incredibly nice. I liked how you can add extra toppings to enrich the ramen and the variety of choices they provide is really good. Only issue we had was that the fried chicken was slightly pink on the inside, which we weren't sure if it was the way it was cooked or if it was actually raw. Ramen was good, no complaints but also nothing too outstanding. Overall good experience.
Nice place and food is really great. However I really don’t appreciate the fact that we needed to pay 12,5% extra. I would rather tip if I wanted to, no need to push it tho.
Really good broth, and would go back. And I’m not a ramen fan!!
Had the chicken karage and gyoza too, these were ok - nothing amazing, solid good taste.
Everything in the ramen was excellent, and pulled together beautifully.
The ramen was good but I have had better in London. They also did not have many vegetarian options which was disappointing
Their ramen is always so tasty! Ramen was delicious, their service was also great. But the beer I ordered was lukewarm..🥲 and I couldn’t get Onigiri 🍙 , Because they said that they don’t have rice😭 I usually go to Angel or Oxford street ones, somehow those are better than this branch from my experiences with Kanada-Ya
I tried the Tonkotsu ramen 🍜 it was good! Loved the broth. Their karaage tasted like Japan’s fried chicken. Recommend!
Went Monday evening, all tables filled including us but nobody waiting for seats. I had the abura soba, super tasty, minimum broth but had enough flavour from other toppings. While waiting the chef had made a complimentary small side dish for each table. But I don’t think there’s enough ‘service’ to be having a charge especially when the paying system is online but you’ll have to ask the waiter for the option to remove if you choose to do so
We ordered Tonkotsu X Ramen and some gyoza. Broth was good but the portion was a bit small for me.
Unfortunately, the music base was just under my seat, music was so loud and the chair vibration made me feel uncomfortable to sit and talk. Would be better if the speakers were installed on the ceiling.
Reasonably priced and fast ramen chain, though not something I'd go out of my way for. Portion sizes are large, and fundamentals are there, though wish the food gave more of a kick.
Amazing ramen… great flavour, the veggie broth was one of the best veggie ones I’ve had.
It gets pretty busy and there’s usually a queue but the service is great and they don’t rush you. Would highly recommend!
My partner and I got seated right away upon arrival. I ordered the vegetarian ramen which was decent. It just needed more salt. There were a few mishaps, but I cough it up to the staff being busy towards the end of the night.

Lovely restaurant, amazing food, the seating area is clean and nicely design and the staff was very kind and patient with our order, will defiantly go back again.
Amazing ramen, absolutely recommended.
Also, I much appreciated the eco-friendly and sustainable solution of chopsticks dispensing holes included in every table.
