This was a very unique experience dining at an Ethiopian restaurant and it was a pleasant surprise. The pancake/sour dough was nice in the beginning but it felt like it got more and more sour. The chickpeas were one of my fav toppings
I never imagined I will have the privilege of sampling African cuisine until I found The Queen of Sheba. If you are looking for a unique culinary experience - look no further.
This small but beautiful place is very welcoming place with excellent staff and management and the best food that this city can offer.
They have a big menu to choose from and every dish will surprise you and leave you wanting more! They are very generous with their potions and they are extra generous with injeras. š
They also serve wicked African beerš»
I highly recommend this place to you all of you are a group of friends or family. Enjoy the experiencešŖš¹šā„ļø
Very authentic and cosy atmosphere, fantastic service, and of course tasty food. Take your time and savor it. Will come back here again. :-)
BOOK AHEAD. And be prepared for a delicious feast- the food and service is fantastic, the menu caters to meat eaters and vegans, and the atmosphere is perfect for a cosy (albeit, a little messy) intimate meal.
Had an amazing experience at Queen of Sheba. The staff are really friendly, the food supremely tasty and the ambiance is authentic. I cannot recommend this place enough. You need a spicy palate to enjoy this type of cuisine. Go forth and enjoy.
I must say it's never been on my bucket list to try Ethiopian food, but now that I have I'm all the better for it.
I've also learnt about the Queen of Sheba as a result and (hate to break it to you) she may not be Ethiopian (!).
Wherever she's from originally, its nice for her to have set up shop for good in Kentish Town.
Inside, the decor is distinctly Ethiopian with wooden carvings and ornaments adjourning the walls and there's no doubt the food is also a little different.
Dominating proceedings is the Ethiopian, sour dough flat bread called Injera. It's lovely spongey texture is perfect for mopping up the other dishes which also come served atop of injera lined trays.
We (Sarah M ) started with some fried chilli injera which was lovely with a sour and bitter taste, but ultimately proved unnecessary given the proceeding carb loading.
For mains we had a vegetarian selection with three dishes, one chickpea, one bean and one potato which were all very tasty. This was accompanied by a deliciously rich lamb curry that we injera'd the hell out of.
We were left well and truly stuffed which was a good thing given it was slightly on the expensive side. Still, well worth a visit for a change of culinary scene and the Ethiopian beer is good too!
I was really excited to come to the Queen of Sheba - very happy to have finally made it after living in the area for a year and a half. I've always walked by, thought the decor looked great and told myself I'll come one day.
The atmosphere is chilled, with an amazing incense smell greeting you as you walk through the door and 5 tables filled on a rainy Tuesday evening. Staff are attentive and friendly, clearly showing care and passion for the food created by this family-run business.
After visiting Lalibela just up the road, I was hell bent on having the baked crisp injira for starter as I really enjoyed that there. Here it wasn't anywhere near as crisp, but had a good flavour. Warning - it's veeerrry greasy.
We were keen to try a few different dishes for our main, but the mixed meat sharing dish for 2 was Ā£40 alone, so we went for the hot lamb stew and a mixed vegetarian selection for 1 to share between us. The lamb was amazing, and a large portion, and we had an amazing time using the injira to pick up our stews and mix the different flavours.Ā
For such a unique cuisine, I think it would've been good if the menu had a mixed meat / veg platter at Ā£30 as we definitely would have gone for that and been able to try more flavours.Ā
All in all - go, enjoy, try the spicy lamb.
This little cosy restaurant is a gem, a hidden treasure in London that I urge people to explore. The food is absolutely delicious. The service is excellent...in true laid back Ethiopian style, you come here to eat and savour the experience - not to be in and out quickly. Loved it, and if you are up to experiencing something different and exotic...you will love it too!
The place is a great hub for a good meal that will surely suffice your hunger. The way they serve the food is very unusual and a good experience. The food here is delicious and absolutely delectable. The food was mildly spiced but was very flavorful. I would surely recommend this restaurant for a great meal.
it serves you with very delicious food which is also presented very well. They maintain their standards by serving food with best of hygiene. The best kind of food which they serve is on the last two page of the menu unless and until you would like to order something unusual.
all in all, its a very good place to spend time with soothing environment and served with good food.
A place i have visited often and keep coming back to. Coming to our usuals, the pancakes are delicious and spongy. The curries are amazing and has a variety. It tastes different and very fresh take on the dish. The place is slightly on an expensive end but thankfully the food is worth it.
This place serves pretty good Ethiopian food and if you are not much aware about this cuisine, you will feel lost in their menu. My daughter took me to this place and whatever she ordered was spot on perfect. Perfect blend of flavors in each dish. I would definitely recommend this place for an outstanding and different experience!
This is one of the best place in London to have Ethiopian food. The food is really nice, and among the two Ethiopian place in town, this one is better. Although both the places are nice, this place has a more private feel to it and that makes it special.
This place is the kind that will leave you with its memory. The food is delicious, the menu is one-of-a-kind with the most unique dishes and the food is eaten with fingers. The staff is really nice, especially the owner who regaled stories of his nation. The coffee is a must try as the brew is truly delicious. The atmosphere is really nice and enjoyable and the prices are reasonably low. I adore this little restaurant.
I went to this place without any standards of expectation and came out very satisfied. The sharing platters were the highlight. Some dishes were spicy and some not. The owner of this restaurant was very courteous and was coming to each table and explained about the dishes in great details.
The food here is absolutely delightful! I had a truly amazing time here. The menu offered a variety of dishes which sounded delectable, so much so, that it became very hard for us to decide. However, the waiters helped us out and suggested us some truly amazing dishes. We had the best steak and fish of our lives which were all seasoned beautifully. Highly recommended!
I would definitely recommend this place. It is my favourite place to hang out at as it serves great food at a reasonable price. One must also try their drinks as they are prepared very uniquely.
The vegetarians must order the vegetarian combo platter as will will certainly leave you impressed.
Service may be a bit slow, however, the food more than makes up for it.
The place offers African cuisine. The exteriors of the restaurant are not quite appealing and abides with the 70's presentation and theme. The food here is extraordinarily good. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and absolutely delectable. The service is not that prompt, but the staff is friendly and hospitable. The prices are also reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
A place where service is amicable and food delighting! Our server came out with our main courses and served us all individually. We ordered four dishes and three salads, our bill was worth the quality and quantity and completely relishing and satisfying meal! Another inviting thing about this place is a relaxing and warm atmosphere and no rushing for the payment allowing you to spend quality time . Coming to food, the raw beef dish we shared was excellent. The salads we had as sides were good though other side dishes seems more tempting! All in all, highly recommended.
I have been coming to this place for several years now, and I have never once been unimpressed with the experience. They have always maintained a really high quality of food and service. The service can be a little slow when the restaurant is busy, but it is not sluggish. The place is relaxed and nice. I love both the vegetarian platter and fish here. They are both excellent value for money, and saves for the main course. I recommend the stuffed chilli. This is a nice option to balance food quality with money.
I had been wanting to visit this place for a bit. The first time around it was too busy and we did not have a booking. The next time I made sure we had a booking . I must add, the food here is brilliant. The sharing platter came with enough food for 3-4 people and was very filling. We even sampled the Ethiopian coffee and it had some great flavors. The ambiance of this place is warm and inviting, with very cheerful and friendly staff.
I will go back for sure!
The place offers Ethiopian cuisine. I had a wonderful experience dining at this place. The atmosphere here is warm and relaxing. The food is absolutely delectable and everything we ordered was delicious. The portions here are enormous and will completely suffice your hunger, I would be extremely happy to return to this place.
The whole place is quite a distinct personality in itself. The environment is amazing and very cheerful. After going through some reviews about this place, I had some real negative thoughts about this place but to my surprise, the whole Ethopian concept and vibe of this place was beyond amazing. Food was good. Decor was ravishing and this place is excellent value for money. If you want a place totally aloof of the regular noises around the city then must check this place out. You'd be spell bound.
I'm a big fan of Ethiopian food and being a traveller it's hard to get what you want . While I was on a tour here I found this place and let me tell you , you won't be disappointed by anything that they offer you . Whether it is the quality of the food or the service they provide it surely is my best experience in any Ethiopian place I have ever been.
The only problem that I had was their food was bit oily which I do not prefer .
Apart from this you have to try this place and you will be amazed.
The restaurant impresses you on various levels.
The decor is well done.
The walls are beautifully decorated and one such beautiful accessory is the Ethiopian string instrument.
We had ordered the vegetable platter and it was delicious.
The lentils were particularly amazing.
The prices are reasonable.
The staff is friendly. We stayed till closing time on a Sunday evening and were not rushed.
A really happy experience!
This places has great cuisines and are served with great style. If you are a foodie and enjoy exploring new dishes, better hop in your vehicle and get here. Service is rather slow but the waiters are friendly and the best part is that it fits your budget and you can not expect more than this.
Worth a try.
The place serves extremely delicious food that is mouth-watering. The service is also great with no rushing staff. The staff is also very friendly. People who are willing to try something exotic should definitely visit this place. It has a cozy and pleasant ambiance, which will make you feel relaxed.
This is one of my favourite places. I am a bit choosy when it comes to eat out somewhere and this one has surely got credits from my side. This place offers excellent Ethiopian food. The management is so helpful!
I particularly love the coffee here.It was simply splendid.
The staff is courteous. The prices are reasonable.
Even the many snacks that i have tried, were all delicious.
The ambiance is especially lovely. The decor is warm and comfortable, preferred for long hours to sit and chill.
The staff does not blink an eye when you sit for long too.
Everything at this restaurant was just great. The food was amazing and so was the service. The waitress was very friendly and helpful too. I would suggest you end your meal with the lovely Ethiopian coffee. Will visit this place again soon and recommend it to all.
This place was perfect, with amazing food- full of flavour, excellent service, some great coffee, and a warm and welcoming staff. The place has a good feel to it too.The experience was very gratifying. Would recommend to everyone for a perfect dining experience.
I am typically a very critical person by nature, but I would not think twice before giving top marks to this restaurant. I have had many experiences of Ethiopian dining, but this was undoubtedly the best of them. They have impeccable customer service, and the wait staff is very polite and courteous. I have been visiting this place regularly since my first dinner, and everyone has always loved this place.
āLegend has it that King Solomon invited the Queen of Sheba to a banquet, serving spicy food to induce her thirst, and inviting her to stay in his palace overnight. The Queen asked him to swear that he would not take her by force. He accepted upon the condition that she, in turn, would not take anything from his house by force. The Queen assured that she would not, slightly offended by the implication that she, a rich and powerful monarch, would engage in stealing. However, as she woke up in the middle of the night, she was very thirsty. Just as she reached for a jar of water placed close to her bed, King Solomon appeared, warning her that she was breaking her oath, water being the most valuable of all material possessions. Thus, while quenching her thirst, she set the king free from his promise and they spent the night together.ā ā Wikipedia
700 years on the ruthless dating tactic of serving spice food is still a winner! Or at least I assume it is because I ate a spicy meat selection and my girlfriend opted for a non-spicy vegetarian selection. The meat selection comprised of Minchet Abish, Tibās weāt and Yebeg Alicha. I had to do quite a bit of cross-referencing with other sections of the menu to figure out what exactly that was but for me thatās all part of the fun of new food exploration. Iām still not sure which was which but they all tasted superb, rich in flavour and well spiced. The vegetarian option comprised Misir weāt, Atkelt weāt and Kik alichāaā¦ cue a bit more cross referencing. We asked if they could serve one of the hotter options without chillies and they were more than happy to oblige. Both meals are served on Injera (a yeast risen flatbread with a slightly sour taste and spongy texture) and eaten with your hands which complement the food very well. The portions were quite substantial. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere cosy. Miso thirsty!
I visited Queen of Sheba with a friend in the spirit of sampling the range of culinary delights that London has to offer. I used to have Ethiopian food as a child and my mother assures me I loved it but I hadn't had Ethiopian food in over 15 years so it might as well have been my first sampling of the cuisine and I therefore have very little to compare my Ethiopian experience with.
Nonetheless, I would highly recommend Queen of Sheba. The restaurant itself is really sweet. The corner venue is adorned with what I presume are Ethiopian decorations and the management are extremely friendly and relaxed and happy to help first timers like ourselves with explanations of the different dishes and recommendations on what to choose.
The way the menu works is that you order various dishes which come served with a massive flat bread called Injera, which you share with you fellow diners. The experience was like nothing I have ever had before and I loved that you use your hands and share everything with those who you are eating with. I ordered a steak tartar dish which while delicious was perhaps a tad adventurous as the next day I felt a bit worse for wear.
All in all I highly recommend Queen Sheba to any and everyone and I will most definitely be returning.
This restaurant is a stone's throw away from the tube station at Kentish town. Although I haven't been to many places in London, but from my culinary experience I can tell you that this is undoubtedly one of the best places I have ever been to. The exterior of the restaurant might not be attractive but once you enter you will be overwhelmed to see the tastefully decorated place. The warm and homely environment makes for a perfect dinner set up. We were three people n I was the only one who hadn't been there before. My partners suggested that I had to come to this restaurant to taste authentic Ethiopian food. And I am glad I went there. The lady who came to take our order was extremely friendly and kind. One of us opted for the vegetarian set meal but two of us wanted to opt for a non-veg set meal. As we don't consume beef and I said I couldn't have anything apart from chicken, we were in a tight spot because the set meal's dishes couldn't be varied. But the lady was very kind to suggest that we go for one non-veg set meal meant for two. It would have two lamb and one chicken dish. And we ordered another chicken dish for us to share. That way I had an option to eat chicken and I was more than happy with the arrangement. So, we had a specially customized dinner palette. The food was served within half an hour to 45 minutes and I was impressed with the presentation. The food smelled yummy. There was a huge round plate with injera (the bread which is eaten with the chicken/lamb dishes, Indians would connect to it if I said its like dosa (just a little more sour) and then the side dishes were served. We had Doro Goulash, Doro and Gomen as the chicken items and my friend had Yebeg We't and Yebeg Alich'a We't for the lamb dishes. We shared the entire non veg set meal. We could ask for as many injeras we want and they tasted fresh and nice. Doro Goulash is a hot and spicy chicken dish and I loved it to the core. It is hard to find spicy food in England and so I was extremely happy to have finally found something close to Indian food. It was cooked with red chillies, ginger and garlic basically. The dish was mouth watering and I enjoyed it completely. Doro and Gomen is chicken cooked with spinach and it was on the milder side but it was equally good. The flavors were distinct and melted in your mouth. The spices in the chicken/lamb dishes went well with the sour injeras. I did taste a little bit of both the lamb dishes and the flavors were very good. The chicken and lamb pieces were succulent and everything was freshly cooked. My friend had a special liking for Yebeg We't as it was hot and spicy. The hot food did wonders to the body specially after a freezing night out in London. I am sorry to say that I didn't taste the vegetarian counterpart of our meal. But they looked good and my veggie friend said it was delicious. The veg set meal had a dish with lentils and the other two were probably cooked with some other vegetables. The meal portions are good and you will be full by the end of your dinner. I felt like I had eaten double the usual amount because the food was yummy and we were ravenous by the time the food arrived. So, we were extremely happy about the taste and the hospitality. We ended our meal with the Ethiopian tea. It had flavors of cinnamon, cardamom and cloves I would say. Indians would understand better if I said it had a close connect to our very own "Masala Chai." We were there for nearly two hours, talking over food and then tea. The warm and cosy place went well with our conversation. The food can be expensive at times and we paid a bill of 55 pounds for the three of us. But the food was worth it and so we thought the price was reasonable. This restaurant is definitely worth a try and I would suggest you visit it once and I bet you will not be disappointed. I am definitely going there again because I have fallen in love with Ethiopian food and the music as well :)
P.S. The Ethiopian food, culture, people and the music is a super hit combination and you have to trust my words :) Happy Eating :)
Itās like being transported to Ethiopia!!
Such amazing food at great value. Perfect for group meals out.
Itās a very laidback atmosphere and chill vibes, yet the servers still manage to be very informative and give great suggestions. Fully recommend the mixed selection, itās so full of flavour and taste. Will definitely be back to this gem.
The food is probably the best Ethiopian Iāve had (including what Iāve tried in Canada and Spain).
The shrimp dish is to die for.
The local beers are fantastic.
Service is slow, but going with the local culture of just slowing down and being in the mood.
š½ šØ needs a renovation.
Lovely staff and cosy restaurant feel, most dishes are on the same theme with various spiced meat sauces served on a traditional bread/pancake. Whilst tasty I was expecting the flavours to be more fragrant if Iām honest.
Food was Fantastic - absolute Flavours!
Generous Portions, we shared the Ā£45 platter between 2 and got a prawn dish. (prawns were very fresh, crunch and large - and a good portion size)
Ended up coming home with 3 containers of food (we are big eaters so we did our best but could barely finish it all). Was thoroughly enjoyed for Lunch the following day.
Staff are extremely friendly and accomodating.
Bill came to just under Ā£75 including 12.5% service charge, this was great value for the experience and delicious fresh food.
Only downfall was that the Honey Wine was out of stock! :(
Will be going again, highly recommend!
A lovely Ethiopian restaurant with good service and good food. A great experience if you're not familiar with the dishes.
Enjoy š
Lovely little restaurant. We had the Queen of Sheba veggie platter. We were so full afterwards š¤£ Would highly recommend.
This is first place I have tried Ethiopia food, and I just fell in love with it.
My go-to dishes are Doro goulash.
I have also tried and love Doro & ingudai, Yebeg we't, samoas and ingudai tibs.
I have been in this place multiple times.
I am not giving it 5 stars because just because the food is not always consistent. And it's hard to book a table for dinner.
But it not going to stop me from going there again š
Itās my go to place for some peace and quiet since 2015. I love this place too much and the staff and owners are like family!
Their Shisha seating is very good with heaters too. They have ramadan buffet and the food was so yummy. Their menu has changed recently and they have introduced new food. Food is fresh and they do fresh juice as well. The inside seating is very comfy and a hygienic place.
Very rarely review a place but these guys gave me the urge. Easily the best Ethiopian food Iāve ever eaten. Love the staff; theyāre so sweet and clearly care about the food and their customers. The food is served in a fun and communal way for a great vibe with friends or on a date. Particularly recommend the veggie sharing plate!
A beautiful place š we had a lovely dinner here, I've been wanting to try Ethiopian food and I'm glad I did here! The injera was amazing! So many riche flavours and the staff were lovely
