Was here long back while I visited London. An Indian restaurant located in the city of London. It's quite popular restaurant among the local people. During our London trip our tour guide explained a few things about this place and the experience was quite good.

We had few vegetarian as well as non vegetarian dishes. The taste was pretty good. I remember having some chicken gravy along with naans here. The preparations were good. So you may give this restaurant a visit, it's one of the good Indian restaurants in London.

I love this place as it is near to my office and at a very strategic location. The food quality is good but can be better. It bit expensive if you compare to other restaurants but again missing Indian food this is the place to visit. I liked the north indian platter/meal.

If you are starving and out of your county and looking for a vegetarian food. This is a place you should visit.

I tried dall makhani (Black lentice ), Bangen bharta. Taste was nice and was not expecting food to be delicious.

Ambiance is really good but bit expensive. However , still good indian food in London is hard to find.

Having recently visited The Painted Heron in Chelsea, I was curious to find out more about Chef-Patron Yogesh Datta’s other venture in the City, Bangalore Express.  His background, starting at New Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel, then moving on to Geneva and Dubai before moving to London to head up the kitchens at Tabla in Docklands.  His own first venture, The Painted Heron, won ‘Best Indian Establishment at the Food Awards in London 2016.  Bangalore Express, his second venture is a casual dining restaurant and bar which offers a wide range of cocktails, beers and wines to complement a menu that provides a flexible dining experience.

Set in the heart of the City, Bangalore Express owned by acclaimed Chef-Patron Yogesh Datta, has a versatile menu offering loads of options to cater to every palate. On a pleasantly warm spring evening a large group of journalists and freelancers like me were invited to enjoy the launch of new A la carte menu.

The okra chips were deep-fried in besan batter, richly spiced and topped off with chaat masala. This is what crispy fried dreams are made of, with cooling mint chutney to boot!

Although the past few days have been quite rainy and grey, we did manage to catch some sun on Sunday afternoon. It was a great opportunity to get the BBQ out and enjoy some grilled seafood. Our back garden has a little area at the back which is perfect to fire up the grills, it has the benefit of being sheltered from the wind thanks to a massive pine cone tree.

Predictability leads to boredom.  Well for me at least.  That’s why I seemingly torture myself by gambling on my selection of eatery.  It adds a bit of spice to life.  Sometimes, literally.  So that’s the short story of how I ended up at Bangalore express.  I set out to prove that I’m not dull and lifeless.

What has happened to Indian dining in London these days? Just four or so years ago Indian food was all the rage in London. A mix of British curry houses, dosa heavy canteens and traditional street food style restaurants. Now however that mix is changing and those North Indian staples are being replaced by traditional and hip Indian restaurants. The question is, how traditional are they really? I guess unless you’ve never taken that leap to India then you’ll really never know. Bangalore Express is a traditional Indian restaurant located just off the busy Gracechurch Street in the City of London and is headed up by the oh-so talented Yogesh Datta. Decor wise as you enter it’s not entirely spectacular, but it does come with a nice greeting – the Bindass Bar. I enjoyed a cocktail to remember and one which may even make its way on to my top 10 list, containing two of my favourite ingredients. The Bangalore Summer – a delicious concoction of gin, coriander and chilli. It was absolutely sublime and very summery, fitting to its name.

If you work or live around Liverpool Street/Shoreditch, of course your first stop for a curry is Brick Lane. This is a place built on history, a destination spot for coriander goodness from Whitechapel High Street to Bethnal Green Road. It is the heart of the city’s Bangladeshi-Sylheti community and you have an expectation of good solid curry houses. As you walk down the street the guys promise you free drinks, free papadoms etc to entice you into their establishment. It can get intense.

If you work or live around Liverpool Street/Shoreditch, of course your first stop for a curry is Brick Lane. This is a place built on history, a destination spot for coriander goodness from Whitechapel High Street to Bethnal Green Road. It is the heart of the city's Bangladeshi-Sylheti community and you have an expectation of good solid curry houses. As you walk down the street the guys promise you free drinks, free papadoms etc to entice you into their establishment. It can get intense.

So, step further down Bishopsgate towards Leadenhall Market and if you blink, you miss a little side street called Corbet Court which is home to Bangalore Express. Firstly, I have issue with the name, because it gives the impression of fast mediocre food in plastic containers being farmed out for delivery on various mopeds. This is not the case, Bangalore Express is a contemporary bar and restaurant hidden away from the crowd of folk that drown the opposite Leadenhall Market pubs. It is the calm in the storm.

They have just launched a new a la carte menu and were confident enough to shout about it. Good move, as yes, they delivered a solid bit of competition for the rows of curry houses on Brick Lane. But lets back track and start with the ground floor bar. This has loads of potential to be the more upmarket spot you go to if you don't want the busy pubs in Leadenhall Market or Crosse Keys pub next door. If they push this, it can work for them. As you move downstairs, it is dark and rich in colour with blacks and reds. You could say that this is best for Winter, but I think it is best for that feeling of escapism from the norm and samey venues nearby.

The menu is traditionally Bangladeshi at its core, but has some other influences, in particular Nepalese. This does not make for a messy mix of dishes, but a well thought out merry go round of dishes that perfectly compliment each other.

We were a table of many, so had the opportunity to taste all sorts of dishes. Dishes included lamb curry with potatoes, mushroom and peas masala, Nepalese steamed chicken dumpling, chicken rogan, okra fries, tandoori prawns, minced lamb with a buttered bap and curried duck breast, amongst others.

It was a filling experience with a rainbow of tastes and textures to tantalise your tastebuds. What an experience. This is a yes, for an exceptional curry experience in the area.

In terms of service, it started of badly with the receptionist sitting us at someone else's table and generally appearing very confused,, but once we were introduced to our gang, we were happy. Bar service great with a good selection of mocktails, restaurant service good with the Head Chef coming out and saying hi, fantastic!

Been to this place quite a few times now - especially as they accept TASTECARD and you can get 2 for 1 price. The portion size is quite large (and me saying that is something!). Quite a variety of choices to pick from - across south indian to north indian. Just go for the thali if you are confused about the choices presented - covers from salad to desserts.

The guide to survival for working in the City includes 3 essentials; 1) find a "go-to" lunch spot; 2) decide your watering hole; and 3) find your local curry house. On all 3 counts, you are spoiled for choice so understandably, it takes time. For me, it's 1) Earls Sandwiches; 2) Jamaican Winehouse; and 3) Bangalore Express - the subject of this post.

Snugged up in one of the many alleys of the City, Bangalore Express is headed by Yogesh Datta whose previous stop offs include Tabla in Canary Wharf. Having undergone the majority of his training in India, he brings an authentic taste to his dishes which is sure to leave you satisfied. However, you'd expect nothing less from a former Good Curry Guide Chef of the Year (in 2013).

Like a visit to the supermarket, you should never come to Bangalore Express hungry unless you're confident you can finish the whole menu as every plate sounds delicious. I constantly find myself in indecision hell but thankfully, there is one simple solution; order a Thali.

Thali is an Indian and Nepalese meal made up of either a vegetarian or meat-based curry and a selection of various dishes served in small bowls which are placed on a round tray which is the actual thali. Typical dishes include rice, dal, vegetables, roti, papad, yoghurt and chutney or pickle.

It has become my favourite way to dine Indian and few do it better than Bangalore Express. Their Lamb Thali (with popadoms, lentil curry, raita, Bombay mash potatoes, onion bhaji, spinach roomali roti and rice) is comfort served literally on a platter and I recommend it to anyone.

Generous and delicious, Bangalore Express is my firm favourite and in my opinion, one of the better curry places in the City. Check it out.

I was in London for a recce and dropped in to Bangalore for dinner. It is located on Gracechurch street. The area was very quiet the day I went. Incidentally, the alley opposite the restaurant is the first Diagon Alley shown in the Harry Potter movies!

We were quickly welcomed and seated. The ambience is decent though nothing great.

We had the following:

Tandoori broccoli and cauliflower: well-made. We enjoyed this as its something unique.
Black lentils: this dish was decent but is certainly not dal makhni as I expected. Could be improved.
Nargisi kofta: my friend really enjoyed it and found the lamb used to be very fresh.
Aloo palak: the saag was flavourful and I quite enjoyed this. A little more garlic would help.

The quality of the naans could be better. Service was very good throughout the meal.

About 40-45 £ for a meal for two.

The second best curry I’ve had in the UK (only behind the Mangla in Sheffield). A very innovative mix of traditional indian classics with other asian and modern european influences. Indian scotch egg, duck and mango roll, Naga chicken curry or build your own combo meal. I love coming here. Typically filled with city suits, but don’t let that detract from the quality of the food.

I have been to the restaurant a couple of times this week for client lunches, and the food has been good. The décor is a bit too glitzy for my taste, but this is a decent venue for business lunches.

It may have been because I had dined their around 3-4 pm in the afternoon, but the service was extremely slack. The place is quite understaffed, with one person manning the phones, the tables, billing and the bar. Otherwise, we had a good experience.

Food tip: The South African Bunny Chow is quite good, and the Indo-Italian section is just so-so.

Went here on a Friday night and it was busy even at 6pm. Had a duck Goan curry which was spicy but very tasty. The rice and naan was delicious too. Mango lassi was a bit of a let down. Maybe a little pricey for what you get (over £20 for my curry, rice, naan and lassi) so just misses out on 4 stars from me (probably because of the lassi)

I have been to this place twice already but let me make it clear – not out of choice. The first time we visited Bangalore was because we were all craving Indian food. The food was about average. Nothing to write home about; there are definitely better Indian places around. The portion sizes are good though which helps when you’re super hungry.

The second time we visited was because there was no other place open at 8 PM on a Saturday night around that area. This time I was more impressed, perhaps it was a better order. I got the Crab Dosa as a starter and I have to admit it was delicious. Not dripping in oil as I had expected it to be and stuffed with flavourful crab, this was the best grub I could have ordered along with my Cider. For maincourse, since we were a group of four; we went all out and ordered Buttered Naans, Chicken Tikka Masala, Kali Daal and some Paneer. While the Paneer was tough to bite into, the Chicken and the Daal were cooked well and even smelt authentic (that’s how my brain knew I was eating the right stuff). They had a good selection of Wine as well; although I’m of the opinion that Wine doesn’t so to speak pairs well with the robust flavours of Indian cuisine.

Service is impressive as well, the staff is well educated in their dishes and will be able to recommend all the right dishes for you. I wouldn’t say that this should be your first choice for an Indian meal but it kind of grows on you post your second visit.

Quite popular with a lot of the local Indian professional crowd, this place can get quite busy at times. Saying that, the quality of the service is usually very good.

Great to go in a group as they offer large portions and lots of sharing options. Good variety of food and they also do a great choice of thali options. Never come across so many non veg thali options!

Not quite sure why the place is named after Bangalore, as the cuisine is from all over India. Worth a visit.

Unpretentious as it may look tucked in an alley in City, let it not stop you from stepping inside for a bite. The place bears a modern look with high ceiling and fancy chandeliers. The bar is on the ground floor and the main dinning area is in the basement.

We had gone for a private dinner and every course was "finger licking good". Being a set menu, the choice was limited to the hot favourites, aka chicken tikka, lentils and paneer jalfrezi. I simply loved the food and I am certain to go there to taste their standard menu. They also offer discount for taste card holders, so another reason to give it a try.

They do great lunch boxes(between £3.5 to £6.5) 'Tasty Curry and Rice', 'Rolls' and a 'Thali' as well. Do try their legendary chilli chips(wrapped in a paper cone) for £1.5 from the lunch menu. Have tried their A` la Carte menu twice and have been disappointed. North Indian chicken curry on the bone was a disappointment with too much of tomato killing the spices. Their Nan breads(rotis) aren't good either. The ambiance is great and also have free wifi. They accept tastecard(50% off on food items) too.

Exceptional service, alcoholic drinks were good and in food the appetizers were absolutely delicious, the main course was decent. Recommend the ghee chicken, king prawn and malai chap in apps. Main dishes you can try the chicken lababdar but the butter chicken was too sweet and biryani was decent. I would go back for the appetizers.

We had an outstanding lunch experience at Bangalore Express in London. Although the restaurant specializes in South Indian cuisine, we took our server's recommendation to try the North Indian thali. We were not disappointed—the platter was a delightful assortment of Bombay Aloo, Yellow Dal, Yogurt, Paneer Makhani, Garbanzo Beans, Coconut Corn, and Halwa, accompanied by Samosa, Papadam, Rice, and Chapati. Every dish was a burst of flavor and the service was prompt and attentive. The pricing was also very reasonable. We can't wait to return to this culinary gem!

Visiting Bangalore Express was a delightful experience! When you live in texas there aren’t many restaurants or variety of dishes in comparison to London. If you are coming to try something new, Bangalore has an overwhelming amount of variety in the best way possible. If you can’t take the spice, they have milder options that are just as tasty such as the pista chicken (mild korma curry with pistachio). If you don’t know what to get just ask Alex and he will show you some great recommendations. If you are hungry they can definitely satisfy your appetite if not leave you taking to go boxes home to have late night leftovers. Thank you again. -Happy Texans

Five stars are not enough. The quality and flavour of the food are superb. We have the chance to chat and get a detailed explanation of the process to make this amazing dishes, some of the fishes for example are marinated 48hs, and I can tell you that when you tried taste like nothing that you had before. The classic Indian chutneys take a twist and let you experiment a completely new range of flavours. Any particular dish have is own distinctive character, I believe that is a place to re discover in any visit. After eat so many different dishes seasoned to the perfection I can't make justice simply writing a review. Is more than just a place to eat, it is an experience where you will feel welcome and part of a culture, the essence of Indian traditions in the heart of the City of London.

Must Try… The food was very tasty and good quality. We tried idli Sambar , Chicken Thali and Mutton Dry Thali. Lamb thali is worth a try. After a very long time had Sambar closer to served in Mumbai. The price is a big higher but considering central london located make a fair deal Service the waiter need to pay more attention on the customer rather then been involved among themselves

The food was great, also the cocktails, mocktails and of course, beer. The food arrived rather quickly and all at once, but the drinks' arrival was very hectic and some items needed to be asked for 3 times before they arrived. It was a Sunday so likely they had less workers than usual, but still it was quite inconvenient, especially for my little brother who needed some relief for the spicy (delicious) foods. Overall, except for the little service issue it was a great, authentic Indian food restaurant serving great drinks and food.

Excellent food, wonderful service, nice decor. The restaurant is a little on the noisy side, I guess you could more accurately describe it as having a vibrant vibe. I read a few negative reviews on Google before, but I think those reviews were just rubbish. I thought it was a great place with delicious food and very friendly service. Definitely worth a visit.

We ordered the mutton biryani to share, which was PHENOMENAL. Sure, we're Singaporean- and Filipino-American, but I think the haters were being dramatic about the spice level. It was certainly appropriate, and the raita (yogurt & cucumber sauce) on the side was so refreshing. It also comes with a curry sauce on the side - very yummy as well. It was a very generous portion: even after 10 miles of walking, the two of us were satisfied splitting one dish. Would definitely come back, and highly recommend!

This place is a little hard to find and spot from the main road but it's a hidden gem. The curry was excellent but the Dosa might have been one of the best I had in a long time. Exceptionally crispy and a massive amount of masala potato filling. Took a colleague here as a birthday treat during lunch time and he was quite pleased with it as well. Highly recommended and I look forward to visiting again
