Yashin Sushi is a beautiful sushi bar in Kensington. The space is bright and the sushi counter is possibly one of the most beautiful Japanese bars I’ve seen in London. Three prominent sushi chefs head the Yashin Group of restaurants. Former Nobu superstar Yasuhiro Mineno is the executive chef. He opened Yashin Sushi and Bar in 2010 together with his buddy Shinya Ikeda, a long time disciple of the Japanese culinary art of kaiseki. Since then, they’ve opened another outpost (Yashin Ocean House) and Ikeda’s prodigy from his days at Yumi, Ryuichi Furukawa, has joined as head chef.

Yashin is one of my favourite places in London for sushi. They practice a 'no soy sauce' policy and maintain that each piece of nigiri and every slice of sashimi arrives perfectly pre-seasoned in order to highlight the quality of the fish. Style is by no means traditional and they utilise many flavour combinations that would generally be unfamiliar in Japanese cuisine - for example, seared o-toro with fresh black truffle and sea bass with pickled cumquat. This is done with varying levels of success. However, overall the sushi is well made and the fish is extremely fresh.

The nigiri omakase (8, 11 or 15 pieces) is definitely the way to go as it showcases the main strength of the restaurant. The sashimi selection and carpaccio-style dishes are also excellent (particularly the tuna with truffle-infused ponzu jelly!).

Alternatively, Yashin offers fantastic value set lunch options, which are definitely worth your while, especially if you want a good sample of what is on offer without significantly lightening your wallet. Of these, my favourite is the tuna sushi lunch, where just £15 affords you miso soup, salad, a spicy tuna roll and five variations of tuna nigiri. Bargain!

One of the best local restaurant in Kensington area offering experimental sushi with no soy sauce.  Highly recommend Sashimi Set Lunch, Wagyu Sukiyaki Roll and Yaki Yose Tofu.  Staff are very attentive and contemporary interior design makes this restaurant perfect for both lunch and dinner.

Upon arriving Yashin, you will come across the long bar table, where you could possibly sit and watch how your sushi is made.  You will spot their slogan “Without Soy Sauce“, then “but if you want to“.  Yashin is not your ordinary sushi fix place, this place takes sushi to the next level, no soy sauce is served, as they believe the fish at their freshest and has their own unique taste that matches with their own toppings.

There isn’t as much on the menu as you would see elsewhere but the selection of sushi/ choices you see are really top notch. Below is a signature dish I would highly recommend. The tuna was so soft and SO GOOD. (Again, they do like to use truffles and ponzu jelly!)

The small but elegant sushi bar is actually maintained by non Japanese people. This is rendered irrelevant since they welcome new arrivals in Japanese, and upkeep Japanese dining formalities to sustain the authentic feel. Sushi at Yashin is known to be done first class and is marketed to eat without any soy sauce. Some sushi eaters believe that to taste every part of the sushi, it is best done without any soy. T

Yaishin Sushi..

In the hidden Kensington High Street, with an outside appearing as a French Bistro, there is this Japanese restaurant.

As you get in you can see the sushi bar where you can see the Itamae making what that will be your dinner in a few minutes..

What’s unique about this place?
The “Without Soy Sauce” philosophy.. There isn’t any soy sauce at the table. The chefs knows and decide where to put it and how much to put. So you have no chances in ruining the sushi or sashimi just dipping it too much in the soy sauce(very common to see people putting everywhere soy sauce like it was olive oil..)

Every sushi comes with an own flavouring: from a spoon of tosa jelly to a last moment blowtorched tuna.

There is a beautiful sake list as well that I suggest to have a look at!

I went for the Omakase(8.5/10) and some Yaishin rolls.

Without describing every Roll one by one I have to say that the best was the Ebi Ten(prawn tempura) (8/10) while the worst was the Wagyu one(4/10).. No idea why they’ve put it in the menu.

Had a beautiful Miso Cappuccino(8/10) to end my experience.

All the rest including service was very good!
Clean bathrooms and kind staff. (8.5/10)

Summarising, another great Japanese restaurant that you should try out!

We went here because Fodor's London 2015 guide said that it was really good sushi at a reasonable price. We agree that it is really really good sushi but the price was very high. For my wife and I to split sake, and appetizer, a soup, a hot dish, and sushi we paid well over £100.

Expensive but worth it. I'm a regular here since its opening day. Interesting, modern sushi backed by classically trained chefs. Little expensive for my liking, however, compare the value of this place against some of the really overrated and expensive places such as Nobu/Zuma/Roka, I'd say it is a place of good value for money. Ingredients in this restaurant are of high quality and you can't have quality food without paying the right price for it. My concern is that they perhaps disregard the traditional sushi topping combination (grated ginger and spring onion for example) in search for more modern and interesting toppings and sometimes rely too much on the use of truffle oil which overpowers the taste of the sushi as a whole. But without a shadow of doubt, one of the best sushi restaurants in Europe.

Best sushi in london. Best sushi in London. People whom I have read on here saying this place is too expensive should go back to yo sushi or itsu. This is, by quite a way, the best sushi in London. For anyone who doesn't know, Japanese products are extremely expensive and when I dine Japanese I do not expect it to be cheap. If you do you are, in a word, stupid. Quality Japanese food comes at a price and although I was surprised at how expensive our bill was, I would say it was worth it. Excellent sake list, great décor, good staff (some seemed to lack a little confidence when they should have had a lot). All in all a fantastic little restaurant that I hope gets the accolades it deserves.

I have been looking for a good spot for sushi since we moved to London a year ago and it was just under our nose. Yashin Sushi London was recommended to me by my friend David as soon as we moved but he mentioned it was very pricey so we have been saving it for a good date night. After many attempt at other sushi spots around time and in a week I was having a massive sushi craving we finally decided it was time to try it. Adorable entrance Silly me booked a table versus the counter thinking it would be more romantic – big mistake and we realized it as soon as we walked it and saw all the action happening at the counter and were directed to our table, downstairs in a dark area full of families (nothing against it) and larger groups. After a lot of begging and sad faces, the hostess took pity on us and found us to spots at the counter so we could watch mesmerized while the sushi chefs slides gorgeous slabs of fish into well manicured little perfect slivers were eagerly devoured with our e

I think Yashin is one of the best sushi places in London (not to be confused with the best Japanese restaurant, as Yashin focuses on sushi and even though they have other dishes sushi (sashimi) is what you have to eat there)! Yashin is located on a quiet street just off High Street Kensington and is quite a small restaurant and you can either eat on the ground floor at the sushi bar or downstairs in the basement where they have small tables. The 2 main chefs and owners Yasuhiro Mineno and Shinya Ikeda have been chefs for many years and worked in many good restaurants (Yasuhiro was at Ubon, the sister restaurant to Nobu, before opening Yashin). The interesting thing about Yashin is that in the restaurant you are discouraged to eat soy sauce with their sushi, their moto is "without soy sauce, but if you want to"... I asked for some soy sauce and the

he dedication and persistence at Yashin are incredible. The angle at which the itamae blow-torch the sushi differs for every kind of fish, and so does the slicing pattern and the depth of each score. And all these efforts were so evident, I could taste it. I could taste the perfect intricate balance, and how one tiny piece of accompaniment on the fish played a huge part in the balance.

I haven't done one of these round-ups in ages, but that's not to say I haven't been eating well 'off the blog'! For example, in this post, I'm checking out posh sushi, authentic spicy Thai and a neighbourhood Vietnamese restaurant. I don't mind lunching on my own, but I seldom go for anything too fancy. I usually have a fry-up, maybe a burger, the occasional Nando's, or a bowl of noodles. But every now and then, I want to lunch alone in style. Why? To quote the famous French philosopher, L'Oréal â€" it's because I'm worth it. Which is why I pitched up at Yashin Sushi , and went for their Hajimeteno Omakase set lunch (£20) . This included posh fish such as sea bass, yellowtail and tuna, as well as salad and some miso soup in a bone china teacup. In all honesty, I can't remember if any of the sushi had been blow-torched but regardless, it was excellent. I was particularly impressed by how expertly the chef had seasoned the sushi. So it was a bit of a shame that the overall experi

Yashin Sushi is tucked away in the most unlikely of places - behind the Tesco Metro on High Street Kensington. A few blog posts alerted me to its existence (it only opened last month) and its blow torched sushi and I was keen to try it out, especially with its close proximity to my workplace. Two weeks ago, I met Rahul and Marco there for lunch and we sat at the sushi bar (in addition, they have one large table upstairs and a number of smaller ones downstairs with the bar) with great views of all that was

My friend Rose and I decided to catch up over dinner one night at Yashin. Located just off of Kensington High Street, Yashin is known for their flame-torched sushi that is so good that you don't need even need soy sauce. My friend had given me rave reviews and I was eager to try it out.

We had the best seats in the house - right at the chefs counter. I watched in utter fascination how the chefs prepared the sushi - delicate and intricate creations, so beautifully presented. They put on quite a show with the blow torch they use to sear the sushi.
To start with, we ordered a Tuna Carpaccio with Truffle Ponzu jelly. Words can not describe how good this was. The moment it entered our mouths, we went silent. So intensely good - it literally melts in your mouth.

I couldn't think or focus on what Rose was saying - all I was aware of was the tuna melting in my mouth in perfect harmony with citrus-y ponzu and decadent truffle. It was like the taste of pure luxury if that makes sense.

Then the beautifully presented Omakase arrived. Visually stunning - quite a treat for your palate. The Omakase had 8 specially prepared pieces of sushi and one sushi roll of the day - which was spicy tuna. There were a few unorthodox pairings like the Parmesan garnish on salmon and the thin sliver of strawberry on the sea bass.

All in all, they worked well though I couldn't help thinking to myself this plate costs £30 - 'ARE YOU CRAZY'!

In addition to the spicy tuna roll, we also go a prawn tempura roll. Both were good as well but we had been spoiled by the previous plates of food.

It was lovely experience with some Grade A quality sushi but you definitely paid the price. 50£ per person is quite expensive and so Yashin is more of a one-time splurge for me. But if the price tag doesn't scare you off, I definitely recommend trying it out.

I could say that Yashin is a must for sushi lovers who does want to try creative sushi pieces with special sauces and toppings, absolutely fresh fish but "without soy sauce" like their welcome sign says on the main wall behind the sushibar...

This place is properly expensive, the centerpiece sushi counter gives the game away as soon as you step inside. The menu also displays precision and innovation, kind of kaiseki style. The wine and sake lists are long and well chosen, eat upstairs if you can, you will get a better service there. They have good options for lunch time.

Yashin Sushi prides itself on their “Without Soy Sauce” concept. Chef Ikeda witnessed customers dunking their rice and delicate fish into their dishes of soy sauce, resulting in any flavours aside from soy being masked. Yashin specialises in serving its sushi already seasoned with different toppings and sauces that enhance the flavour of the fish.

Located in South Kensington, Yashin can be a bit pricey. But, if you’re in need of a special treat and would like to have some of the finest sushi in town, Yashin gets the job done. Be sure you make reservations in advance as the restaurant has limited seating.

The most delicious Miso Soup I have ever had. I wonder if it being served in a dainty tea cup had anything to do with it.

The foodie moment of happiness: when the most incredible meal is placed in front of you. Omakase Eight: Yellowtail with Salsa, Salmon with a Tangy Jelly, Tuna with Pepper and Salt, Fatty Tuna with Seasoning, Salmon with Jalepeno, Grouper with Garlic Jam, Tuna with Chili, Sea Bream with Spices. This time I went all the way to High Street Kensington area where Yashin Sushi, a small sushi restaurant, is hiding in one of the side streets. As you would expect from the area the restaurant is maturely decorated in a simplistic way with a few extravagant details. The space is quite small with the main sitting area surrounding the chef counter. There is a small room downstairs with a bar for bigger parties where you will also find the wine/sake storage tucked away in a small space next to the bathrooms.

We sat at the far end of the counter in front of the prep section (I think). The menu is quite straight forward with a selection of mixed dishes to complement the sushi offering. I went for Omakase Eleven which was a selection of eleven pieces of nigiri and a maki roll of the day. Together we shared the Wagyu Beef Sirloin and Yaki Yose Tofu.

The first hint of Western elements mixed into the restaurant concept was the miso soup served in an exquisite tea cup. Beautiful and neat but felt a bit strange to mix the soup in the tea cup with my chopsticks.

Salad with dressing - The dressing could have been mixed into the salad for more even flavour since mixing yourself would be a bit messy in that plate.

Wagyu Beef Sirloin with Wasabi Sauce - The beef was nice but it didn’t have the same concentration of meat flavour as other wagyu beef dishes I’ve had before. Although the wasabi sauce worked with the beef I expected it to have more punch to it.

The Yaki Yose Tofu was the star of the meal along with some of the nigiri I had later. It’s home made tofu with sweet wasabi soy sauce. It was soft, silky smooth and flavourful after mixing the sauce with tofu.

Finally came the main of the meal, eleven pieces of nigiri and maki sushi rolls (which I don’t have a picture of). The maki sushi came when I was about to finish the plate of 11 pieces which made them feel dull in comparison. I would have preferred to start with the maki and then go on with the more elaborate plate of nigiri.

Yashin Sushi’s style is the incorporation of Western ingredients as toppings. The use of umami rich ingredients like parmesan, sun dried tomato and foie gras with sushi is not traditional but it does elevate the flavour sensation. The nigiri were well crafted with well cooked room-tempered rice. A final touch of the blowtorch on some pieces added some depth to the flavours as well. It’s refreshing to see non-traditional ingredients in sushi used in a delicate way. As a sushi purist I have to add that I prefer to see the fish being lifted out without the use of fancy ingredients.

The service was smooth and the ratio of staff to guests was high for the small space. While the sushi was very nice the most memorable item from this meal was the home-made tofu. I was very happy with the food in general and will come back in the future. It’s not very friendly for the wallet though and for the same price I enjoyed Sushi Tetsu more.

This is my first time in London and hands-down the most delicious sushi I have ever eaten. I am from California and even though I live right on the ocean, the fish quality here was superbly better than California. Karina, my waitress was absolutely lovely. This place is pricier than most other sushi places but their quality in food and staff are worth it. The venue is not very large with most people on the first floor seated at the sushi bar. The wait staff are very attentive to both your food/drinks and are very knowledgeable regarding every piece of sushi and garnishment provided. The sushi is made in front of you and then sent to the kitchen for inspection prior to being served. The sake choices pairs very well with the Omakase offered.

The sushi is pretty good, but for the price point not good enough. I prefer Chisou, which is about the same price with slightly better quality fish. The Omakase was disappoininting and unoriginal. I had been here in the past when it was better. The soft shell crab salad, was average at best. The black cod miso was fantastic, so I can firmly recommend it. In the future, if I want to eat sushi in this economic bracket, it will not be my go to, but if someone invited me to eat here and wanted to pick up the bill, I'd be happy to oblige. It is certainly good sushi, it just doesn't measure up to its competitors.

I’ve tried many supposedly good sushi restaurants in London but nothing comes close to Yashin. It is definitely the best sushi place I have tried outside of Japan. While the food was outstanding the service did not match the food quality. It’s possible there was a language barrier or it was the waitress’ first day but the service diminished our overall experience. Additionally there was a severe sesame allergy yet two of the dishes came out covered in seeds despite us informing the restaurant. Would definitely try it again to see if the service improved. Food was excellent though.

Fresh. Crisp. Savory. Overall delicious. Expensive? For this type of quality yes of course. The google $ do not lie. Its a perfect place for a sushi lover or for a nice meal, and delicious treat at that. Would highly recommend the ‘“lunch set’. Good deal- (see salmon pic) and comes w salad & miso soup. The salmon set for lunch was the perfect assortment with each nigiri piece having its own twist- caviar, truffle, wasabi etc. Elevated sushi. Added a side of the fatty tuna nigiri and wow- absolutely melted. The serving staff was lovely and the place was very clean.
