It was an exemplary experience at Rasa!
Had their masala dosa and it was just delicious. The crust was perfectly crisp, the masala inside the dosa had perfect spices and the sambar was just finger licking good.
Their service was on time and the staff was courteous too.
It’s a pretty- pink vegetarian Keralite (South Indian) restaurant. It looks small from the outside but can easily seat over 50 people. It is a little congested.
We reached at 6:15 PM on a Sunday and in an hour the while place was full. Strangely didn’t spot any other Indian diners.
We ordered (picture attached) -
• Rasa Idli - it was okay. Soft. The problems were the sambar and the chutney. The sambar was bitter and the chutney quite tasteless. Comes in a set of 3. (Plus 1/2)
• chilli onion rava masala dosa - ❤️ so good! Crisp and well done. The masala was a little bland. (Plus 1)
• mango lassi - it tasted like liquid Parle mango bite toffee. Not bad. ( plus 1/2)
• masala dosa - ❤️ again. It has the scrumptious taste of dosas from small udipis, that add salt to the batter making it edible just by itself. Baked well. (Plus 1)
The service staff was polite and attentive. (Plus 1)
Definitely going again. Pocket pinch of approx £23 for two satisfied diners.
The masala vada’s looked amazing too 😬 we also had fun chatting with our neighbouring diner and helping her navigate the menu to make the right order.
Fantastic service and truly delicious food. Was unlike any other Indian I've had before and did not leave me feeling like Buddha at the end of it.
One of our favourite restaurants in London. For Keralan vegetarian food I haven't found anything better in the UK. Environment is nice and reservations are definitely necessary, at least on weekends.
Went to this place sometime back and forgot to post a review.
Simply loved the food. Went to this place because it was only serving vegetarian. There was only one person to serve he was very kind. Went with my kids. It was authentic kerala food. We ordered the kerala feast and the pazha manga curry was delicious. Pal payasam was good too. Would love to go back again. All the foodies who love vegetarian food should definitely try this.
Lovely aircon in the venue on this hot summer night. Beetroot and spinach curry was delicious, as was the paratha bread. The other dishes were very flavoursome but I feel we ordered badly. Ended up accidentally with a pineapple curry and the paneer one was a bit lacking in paneer. Cheap and nice would go again.
For South Indian food in London, I would definitely recommend this place. The prices are extremely reasonable, the flavours are authentic and the service is good. For what you're paying its worth it. Try the Masala dosa, and the spinach-beetroot veggie dish. For the small size and humble interiors (brightly coloured pink walls), I was pleasantly surprised with the experience and the amount of awards that this restaurant acclaims. And rightly so!
Rasa is a good option for Indian cuisine and probably the best in Stoke Newington. The interior is a blend of strong colours, pink and orange typical from restaurants in India. The set recommended menu is not the best option, the starters with nan bread and different kinds of sauces are very good but the rest of the courses were not the best choice. Though I recommend a stop-by if you are in the area. The price is very reasonable.
Nom Nom Nom. My favorite restaurant. Love the food in here, especially the tomato curry. Totally different to curry house curries. Wish they did delivery. Go it's fantastic
One of the best Indian dishes I've ever had. Truly delicious. The service was really good and very friendly.
I am South Indian and it drives me mad how few authentic Indian restaurants there are in London. Fortunately, this Rasa (and all the others) is both authentic and utterly delicious. These guys are passionate and talented and worthy of all the praise they receive.
Amazing. The vegitarian rasa is by far the more superior of the two. Best all round curry house in London.
Without the merest shadow of a doubt, both the best Indian restaurant, and the best vegetarian restaurant in London. I live nowhere near this place yet I happily will cross the entire city just for the sheer joy of eating here. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Friendly service. Happy friendly service, makes the difference
Rasa. Go the veggie side of the street - way better
...food is Keralan, which means an emphasis on coconut, great chutneys and freshness. Not wildly hot, it is still recognizably South Indian vegetarian as a genre but it’s quite different in execution and subtlety. I don’t think the menu has changed very much since 1994, and I’ve been ordering pretty much the same things ever since then. I just don’t get sick of it. Ever.
The excellent Rasa reproduces the cooking of Kerala. The dining room is very simple, and service relaxed and friendly. Nibble on the unusual popadom selection while perusing the vegetarian menu. An example is Mysore Bonda,, three balls of vegetables encas
Once inside the garish pink portal, you're not transported to a open air joint on the humid Kerala coast, more a generic curry house on a suburban high street. The thick faux leather menu that clumps down does its best to get you there though.
every single aspect of the experience was absolutely perfect. upon entry you're hit with a pleasant wave of warm colours and smells. the staff are very friendly and helpful. the food was absolutely divine in every regard and the choice was nearly indefinite. the masala dosa bigger than a child was the star of our table, but every dish down to the humble rice was eloquently presented and perfectly spiced and wondrously cooked. could not be better.
The signature of the experience was the Masala Dosa, with delicious spicy potato filling. We know one will not be enough for two of us after we had the first bite. As mains, we had Chef Special which was a mixed vegetable curry for us, however, it felt like it could be something more special. The second main was Paneer Cheera Curry and it was amazing. They both worked well with Lemon Rice and Paratha. Pal Payasam was the best finish after all the food, with the notes of cardamom.
Rasa South Indian Vegetarian is fantastic for genuine South Indian cuisine. The staff were so attentive, friendly and genuinely nice. Service was excellent. Prices were super reasonable. I highly recommend it!
Good food , good ambience , good service
Had gobi pakodas, masala dosa, Parripu ( don’t know if I am saying it right ) , Nair dosa and payasaam . Absolutely delicious
We were served by yasasvy and Libin who were very cheerful, happy and helpful
Keep up the good job
Wish I had known the chefs names
But whoever u are , you are doing a Fine job !
Cheers
First of all, the Staff is really friendly and cheerful. Really enjoyed the vibe and the atmosphere.
We ordered the Moru Kachiathu with tamarind rice and the crispy Dosa.
The Moru Kachiathu was extremely tasty and had a nice spiciness.
The Dosa was really crispy and had a tasty flavor.
As a side to the Dosa, the Rasa serves a really awesome Potato Masala which ich became our favorite on the first bite.
As we headed out (we were leaving London that evening) the Staff even refilled our water bottle for us when we asked them if we could refill it.
Tl;dr:
Staff: 5/5
Food 5/5
Location 5/5
I can highly recommend to pay the Rasa a visit if you like indian cuisine!
We went to Rasa to eat south Indian food for my husbands birthday. And they have the perfect South Indian menu.
Food: We ordered Nair dosa, tamarind rice, Madhur vada and a veg gravy. It reminded me of my neighbours food from Kerala back in India. She would cook in similar style. We loved the food and the service.
Service: Everyone was very polite and well mannered.
Ambience: I loved the perfectly created South Indian ambience with Indian music playing.
PS: The best thing I liked about them was that they have not tuned the food or spice levels for the local crowd. It is as is (authentic tadka and fragrance)
Price: it’s light on the pocket too.
we had quiet a lot for two, our bill was 29£
It was incredible experience.
The food was delicious!!
I myself is a South Indian and it’s the right place to go for Crispy Dosa 😍
Very Filling and Huge portion😋
Loved the staff, they’re so amazing and sweet♥️
Great experience in all
10/10🔥🥰
Best Indian food in london. Great service and lovely staff.
We shared our 50th wedding anniversary dinner here and the choice was perfect. Loved everything we ordered at this vegan restaurant.
Lovely eatery, offers a great Vegan and vegetarian menu! Would recommend the Veg tiffin, gives you the chance to try lots of bits from the menu! The medu vada and dosa were especially nice and would defo recommend! The bar is well stocked and the team are very happy to accommodate. If you plan to go as a big group it would be advisable to pre book a table as they do get busy even during the week. Great service from the team, cosy atmosphere and easy to find. Free parking available on the side streets after 1830!
Came here with the excuse to celebrate my half birthday, given my real birthday was during lockdown. This restaurant was charming ! Delicious and authentic quality food, their menu stretches beyond the usual curry dishes I knew and where all fantastic! Although everything was vegetarian, the absence of meat did not stop us enjoying everything and feeling extremely full and satisfied. Have recommended to both my vegetarian friends and omnivores. Great atmosphere as well, particularly good for gatherings. Thank you for this experience.
Good service, food, flavors. The dosa was very delicious! Some of the dishes I found were better than others. Indian food is subjective depending on your taste. Overall a good experience. The mango lassi is a must try, they add a little extra cardamom, it’s perfect.
The best Indian food in London. Every dish is delicious. It is always busy and you can see why. Incredible value. The dosas are magnificent. Lovely curries, the beet pachadi and bagar baingan two of my favourites.
I’ve been wanting to try this place for months as I walk past it frequently and it was delightful! The service was wonderful as was the delicious fresh food. Great atmosphere and very affordable. This is a must for any craving quality Indian food!
Food was great!! I’m from India hence felt the vibe there. We had ‘banana boil’ which I would say is must try!! Their Nair dosa is really good!! Worth visiting more than once! Good if you are a pure vegetarian as they have 2 branches which serves vegetarian and non vegetarian food so no need to worry about:)
Overall Enjoyable dining experience at Rasa.
It was a very busy week night and I had to wait 15 minutes past my reservation. However, I felt it was worth the wait. I was served by the owner, Das, himself.
The appetizers were spot on and a great start to my meal. I regret going with some non traditional mains. I think my Paneer was watery due to frozen spinach. Overall, I still enjoyed my meal.
I do plan to return and try some more traditional South Indian dishes.
Definitely make reservations in advance. Great location. Traditionally decorated pink theme.
Rasa has a cosy and fun decor and the waiters are super friendly! The food was incredible - especially the cashew aubergine and the parathas. We were two and had more than we could eat and a beer and it came to £25 each. Would definitely recommend!
Very nice. Cosy restaurant with authentic Indian decor. The menu is concise and original. Servers are friendly and attentive. The vegetarian food is superb. Their tomato rice 😍 I would definitely come back
