arrived for Sunday lunch and a few drinks, great pint of Doom Bar and a fabulous tasting roast beef with all the trimmings. great friendly service from the staff working, and they where more than welcome to make some recommendations of local places to visit. well worth a visit!
this place is just off the main hussle and bussle of Piccadilly - and very close to Green Park tube and Buckingham palace. We found it on the off chance and where so glad we did. Great selection of real ales - 8 on tap that day - so if you love your ale you will enjoy it - some house hold names but also some more quirky ales to choose from also. The food was tasty and again a good selection, enough to keep everyone happy - including the vegetarians!

In a peaceful side street off Piccadilly, an oasis of a pub. Small cosy entrance leads into two floors of welcome and wrap around ambience. Staff at the bar are attentive and make eye contact to let you know you are n the queue for orders.
Brilliant selection of ales and lagers and …… gins and tonics. Did not try the food… need to go back!
The music is of good taste and not too loud. Easy to chat and stand; seating available.
Great location for a traditional old English pub. If you dine definitely go upstairs. Quite expensive for what is a good but pretty standard pub menu, good range of pies and desserts. I had the plant based burger, my wife had the puy lentil pie and both friends had the beef shank pie.
We love this pub. Have come many times throughout the years. Service is good and qui. There are some good options of wine ( although a bit pricey for the quality), and some interesting options to snack on.
It is just very close to the station so perfect to meet friends coming from different parts of London.
I had a great time at The Clarence in London. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Highly recommended
We were glad we made reservations for The Clarence for dinner after a long day of touring the sights. It was located just around the corner from our hotel. Our table downstairs was ready when we arrived. Pies are a specialty of the house and they didn’t disappoint. We ordered the chicken and portobello mushroom pie, and the fish pie with salmon and prawns. Both were well prepared and delicious! Some good beer and wine added to a perfect evening.
I have been here yesterday. I had a fish and chips and it was mouth watering. I suggest everyone to once in life you must have to visit The Clarence. You guys have amazing beers, whisky and wine selection. Moreover, The staffs were amazing and they provide good service.
A cosy little spot near Hyde Park. Perfect for a glass of wine and a sharing platter with friends.
The staff were helpful and did everything with a smile. It was a lovely atmosphere.
The food was great. The kitchen staff are swift to prepare and it arrived looking and tasting lovely. Perfect.
I had one of the best Ribeye steaks ever. My wife had the Hake, which she loved. We wish we had seen this pub earlier in our holiday week. We had the same meal less than 1/2 a mile away, it was twice the price and not as good. The cooks and staff deserve a pat on the back. When and if we come back we will definitely eat here again.
Lovely place where to spend time , lovely food, friendly and professional service in a traditional English pub atmosphere! Highly recommended!
Wow, this a little gem of a pub, slightly off the main thoroughfare of Picadilly, but nonetheless a diamond in the rough.
Came into the Clarence for a friend's birthday... had some fantastic food and a the venue has a gr8 selection of beers and drinks. We were served quickly and very professionally. The manager and bar staff were great, very friendly and chatty and most of all very knowledgeable on the types of beers and drinks which made it all the easier to order with our food.
It was sort of quiet for the day and time that my friend and I arrived, but the welcoming received from the staff was great.
I shall be returning back to this pub when I am back in the area.
Well done everyone, you all made my friend's birthday memorable.
Another very good Nicholson’s pub. The Clarence has a great selection of ales and other drinks. The menu has a good choice of food and the wine list is also reasonable. I had the burger which was delicious. If you are lucky enough to get to the upstairs restaurant area please try as it is a very smart room.

❤️ A classy oasis off Piccadilly.

The Clarence is located just off Piccadilly and is just a stones throw from The Ritz Hotel. Getting here is easy, Green Park Tube Station is a couple of minutes walk away.
.
The original pub on this site was The Coach & Horses and was built in 1724. This pub was rebuilt in 1892 and again in 1953, this pub is named after the Duke of Clarence who became King William IV in 1830. To left of the pub used to be Dover Street Tube station, it was demolished in 1966 and replaced by Green Park station.
.
The decor here is traditional but the pub does have a modern feel to it due to the bar being well illuminated due to the lack of windows. The walls are a mix of light paint and dark wood panelling, dotted around are historical prints linked to the area. The seating here is all low level with a cosy area at the rear of the bar. Upstairs is another bar with a smart and comfortable dining area.
.
The beer choice was pretty good and included three cask options for the cultured quaffers. As this was my first pub visit of the day, I thought I would ease myself in to the day with a Pravha. My pint was very enjoyable and the price point was ok all things considered. The food menu is full of British classics with an emphasis on hearty pies. A Steak and Ale with mash and veg costs £16, good old Fish & Chips costs the same.
.
I visited just after midday on a Saturday and there were a dozen or so punters in attendance. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled, a few of us were watching Football Focus on mute catching up on all the football stats. The soundtrack was soft rock classics to help you settle in to your time here. The two Guys on duty were very polite to all they served, they made me feel very welcome.

@theclarencemayfair is a welcoming retreat away from the humdrum of the comings and going’s around Piccadilly. This @nicholsonspubs is what are American cousins would call “A Classy Joint” and I couldn’t fault it. If you ever need a breather if you’re in the area, this calm oasis has got you.

Superb service.
I have visited several nicholsons pubs across England and Scotland, and this falls into line with the same quality of several, but the service was better than most.
The waiter was very attentive to us despite it being an "order at the bar" type of restaurant.
The food was good, the drinks were cold and as expected with a wide variety on taps.
Love nicholsons pubs and will continue to explore them!
Nice pub on a Sunday lunch time. Just a beer and nice glass of NZ white this time, but very attentive service. We didn't have time for lunch but it looked great. To be honest what's not to like opposite the Ritz and a few yards off Piccadilly? Just watching the world go by in this great city. We'll head back for a Sunday roast - looking forward to it.
I celebrated my birthday here with a group of friends. The food was delicious, the team was kind, especially Jastina.
A lovely pub with excellent service. The staff were so welcoming and served us some delicious plates, we couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon! I would highly recommend a visit if you haven’t done so already… worth every penny!
We were there recently and as per usual been satisfied. We usually go there after a running event but always have had nice food. The staff is very kind and helpful especially Justina who always walks around and asking if everything ok. Nice place to be. I can recommend.
Awesome pub in the heart of the West End close to the hustle and bustle of Leicester and Trafalgar Square. Great stop off point for a pint and a bite to eat before heading to the theatre and local events. The pub landlord is friendly, well cultured and travelled; you a guaranteed to feel relaxed and welcomed
