Marie's is a very small restaurant and can be a little misleading. At first it seemed like a not so good quality restaurant but don't let that fool you. The food was amazing. The service was quick and the food service was fast, but that did not take away at all from the quality. Very tasty and a perfect portion. I highly recommend this restaurant.
BYOB Thai - brilliant... except we forgot to BYOB :) No matters though as the primary reason we were here was for some good reasonably priced Thai food. After reading a few reviews I can safely say they were spot on. I tried a Tom Yum soup which was refreshingly zingy and spicy. We put away a couple of plates of prawn crackers... too difficult to resist a second bowl and tried selection of other dishes. Highly recommended if you're in the area. Miso have some money leftover.
Loved it. Chow Mein! Black bean cod! Dim sum! Yes!
AWESOME. Myself and friends have been coming to Marie's Cafe for over 15 years and never tire of it. As well as awesome, fresh and lovingly prepared food, it also has a great friendly atmosphere. A real gem and well worth many many many visits !
Classic Thai cafe/greasy spoon. Excellent thai dishes at cafe prices about half smart thai restaurant prices. Plus usual caff fare. Packed at lunchtime so prepare to share tables.
chilli and basil flavoured dishes recommended.
Don't believe the gainsayers!
A great discovery. By day (mostly) English cafe, this place takes on a new identity at night serving great Thai food at bargain prices. The service is quick and polite as diners pack In then tuck in - it's worth waiting for a table. BYOB and cash only- we came back next day for a greasy spoon breakfast which was excellent. In an area which is already well served for food, ( lots of street stalls selling World cuisine) this is a gem. Go eat!
A Great Place. One of the gems of Central London and an excellent place for an after work party. As one of the few remainig BYOs ( yes you can bring your own wine), Maries means that you can eat well and and cheaply, a real bonus as the chill winds of austerity blow through the economy. . Make sure to try the starters. They are excellent.
Diners need to support indepedent restaurants like Maries or our city's high streets will be taken over by Nandos
Colossal. Love the place, live in it.
The coffee here is 80p, which makes me question why I pay over £2 for it in almost every other establishment in London! Sure, it's not the greatest, but it's a good indicator for the rest of the menu.
Greasy spoon by day, BYOB Thai by night! Not the most traditional combination, but somehow it works. The portions are enormous making it the perfect place to line your stomach before a big night out.
Marie's cafe is a cute tiny Thai restaurant just behind Waterloo tube station.
Quite affordable and suitable for takeaways, the cafe has also a dine-in seating with a wide range of Thai dishes.
I never had tried Thai and one day passing I gave it a try. I ordered cashew nut beef which was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted!! You would not expect to spend less than £10 for a meal with such a quality and diversity.
The lady I was served by, was quite pleasant and I believe she was Thai as well. She helped us a lot with out choice and offered free drinks.
It is a pity the place is so small for the high quality of food they serve. It should definitely turn into a big restaurant one day!
The food’s really worth trying. We had a Mix Starter Delight, Panang Chicken Curry and Chow mien prawn noodles. The quantity is good enough for two people to share( depends on the number of dishes you order)and the food is really really tasty. You can adjust your spice levels while ordering. Overall, our experience was great. The food’s tasty, service was quick and the price point is very affordable.
I went with my colleagues after work. We enjoyed the atmosphere which has a nostalgic atmosphere, just like an old diner. The amount of the food wasn't so much but tasty, so we ordered some and shared. It's in a convenient location, but the prices of dishes are not too expensive. We enjoyed tasty tea and lovely desserts as well. We will definitely go back again.
Very homely, quick service and friendly staff members from front of house to the chefs.
Maries Cafe has now been one of my go-to’s whenever I visit Waterloo - with affordable prices and dishes that fulfil your cravings for Thai flavours, I would recommend this anyone who is looking for somewhere chill to also catch up with friends or if you just want some Thai during your lunch breaks.
Lovely restaurant ❤️
Nice place to grab quick Thai food. The prices are cheap, hence the queue at most times. We ordered the bbq chicken, but when it came out, it didnt look bbbqd which was disappointing, but overall, worth the money.
Quick lunch, satay is tasty, portion is relative small, is okay for ladies but for gents the portion not enough. Under £10 price is okay. Nice warm food during chill weather
A must try in the Waterloo area!! Maries Cafe, have not tried to be anything fancy and just serve amazing food straight from the heart!!
The service was great and done with a smile throughout. I'd highly recommend this spot to anyone that wants to try some good Thai food at a relatively low price (in London terms), in central London.
It didn't bother my group, but the restaurant can get very crowded and tight, so it may not be best suited pushchairs, wheelchairs or big groups. I know they do takeaway though...
I came here late morning just wanting a fry up. The service was prompt and upon looking at the menu, I could see that this was a popular place for breakfast and lunch. I didn’t get a photo of the Thai lunch menu but looks like it’s popular with the locals.
Marie's Cafe is a small, family-run Thai restaurant located in the heart of London, a short walk from Waterloo Station. The cafe has been serving up authentic Thai cuisine for over 20 years, and it has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
The menu at Marie's Cafe is extensive, and it features the usual Thai dishes one expects, including pad thai, green curry, and massaman curry.
The dishes I ordered (pad thai, prawn toast, and Thai iced tea) were cooked/made fresh to order, and the portions are generous and filling.
Overall, Marie's Cafe is a great option for anyone looking for yummy and quick Thai eat in London. The food is good, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is inviting. I recommend giving Marie's Cafe a try.
in the evenings this place is a Thai restaurant , it not very big and they don’t serve alcohol, you will probably need to queue to get in and they won’t want you hanging around after you have finished eating but it is definitely worth it.
It’s tucked around the side of Waterloo station in Lower Marsh.
Staff are friendly , food portions arent huge but priced accordingly and great value.
The food is delicious and this is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in London.
Som Tum salad is great as is the Tom Yum soup , Thai red curry is delicious and their Pad thai is fantastic.
If there is a queue, unlucky, but you must join it, because the food is out of this world with flavours and the experience of a tightly packed cafe with dinners makes it an unbelievable experience.
The staff are efficient and polite, highly recommended, a definite must.
Pretty good for what it is. Perhaps not quite as authentic as other Thai places, but it certainly costs less. Ginger tea is really ginger though. You can pay by card
Really cool atmosphere! The room is packed with tables, but not overwhelmingly. The food comes quick and tastes good. I really enjoy it every time I get here. Humble, honest, delicious dining.
Delicious dinner! Don’t miss this friendly family run institution if you are in the area. They do not have much room and queues often form after 18:00 but well worth the wait. Simple decor, seats, table and kitchen on view for most tables.
There is a wide selection to choose from and all very reasonably priced. If you are looking for alcohol I believe it is BYOB.
The food was all tasty, ingredients seemed fresh and oil used for frying was clean tasting. Two of us ate three starters, two mains (plus rice) and two desserts for £45.
This is a great cafe. No frills here, just cheap great food. I also loved the home made lampshade in the toilet!
Aunthentic & delicious thai food. Quick service, lovely staff, great vibes overall! Definitely coming back for more, thank you Maries Cafe
Amazing Pad Thai, really nice place to share food with friends! The fried banana desert brought me back home🥹
Small casual cafe with an unassuming front. We were pleasantly surprised they served really delicious Thai food! We had the fried rice recommended by boss and it was yummy. We also tried the Panang curry which came with rice, it was very nice but could do with abit more vegetables. The cooks are fm Thailand so you can be sure the the food is authentic. Prices are decent. We will come again to try other items.
Amazing little cafe with some good food avaliable in the center of Waterloo.
We were a group of 5! And the bill was less than £50.
