Laid back, quirky and comfortable – that is Gail’s. I almost don’t want to share it since it was such a rare treat to go somewhere in London that didn’t need a booking and was nice and quiet for brunch when you walked in… But alas, sharing is caring!. Gail’s has some great vegetarian options and as an added benefit, they’re very reasonably priced. It was a tough choice between the blueberry pancakes, the shakshuka (baked eggs in a roasted pepper stew) or what I eventually ended up with – the sweetcorn pancakes.
Wonderful stop for a coffee and a treat while in Bloomsbury. Staff are great and location is convenient. Bakery options are mouth watering and the coffee was first rate.
Have heard bout Gail's bakery ages ago and finally grabbed an almond croissant today! It was very almondy and the almond paste in the croissant was so good! Would go back to try some other pastries
Visited for brunch. Staff were nice and helpful. Food was very good quality, though as others have noted the portions are on the small side. Would recommend the pulled pork bun of the dishes we tried and saw.
I will definitely be going back to try the normal menu for lunch/dinner.

Modern European cuisine with a Mediterranean influence, having been impressed from my first visit over dinner, I returned for the brunch menu for a lazy weekend treat.
If you've been to a Gail's Bakery, then you'll have some idea of the feel of the place. Gail's Kitchen is their new restaurant. It will be no surprise to you that bread is a key element in their offering and given my deep and enduring love of carbohydrate, this makes me very happy.
And on top of the excellent bread selection, that comes as you sit down, you can have some more bread-y things as you go along.
To start, it's definitely pricey, but so so so worth it. I sat outside when the weather was still nice, and it's beautifully and peacefully located just across the corner of Bedford Square.
The chocolate chip cookies are one of the best I've ever tried, and I'm picky about my cookies. Have them warm it up for you and just nom in heaven! The tea was delicious and the service great.
Their chai lattes are a bit sweet for me, but my friends are obsessed, so give it a shot.
Two thumbs up!
Have you ever been to Waitrose bread section only to discover that they have a sensational selection of flavoured breads from a brand called 'Gail's Bakery?'
Well I have, and you might be surprised to know that Gail's is an actual place...and it's a place that breakfast dreams are made of.
It's brunch menu is rather extraordinary, with dishes going beyond the usual full english or scrambled eggs, which I think makes it a great place to fill yourself up before a day of Oxford St shopping (which is exactly what I did).
I had a Cappucino to start while I decided what I fancied from the unusual but appealing menu.
With items such as freshly baked banana bread, pancakes, smoked mackerel and poached duck eggs, it's no wonder I found it hard to choose. Alongside this they have a selection of freshly baked croissants and toast. There really is something for everyone.
Eventually I settled on a dish called 'Shakshuka' which is a pan of peppery-tomato sauce base with two eggs on top, baked in an oven. The yolks were soft, the sauce was thick and flavoursome and the fresh bread that it came with was clearly baked just that morning in the adjoining bakery. It was to die for.
They also recommended I get a side of bacon, and I was sceptical at first but pleasantly surprised when it arrived. I normally find bacon is never cooked how I like it when I eat out. It's either too crispy or very watery and ham-like. This bacon was a perfect balance between the two. It was grilled on a proper grill and the bacon was thick and meaty. It was good bacon, from a farm as opposed to bulk-bought bacon that was defrosted the night before.
A truly brilliant breakfast experience, you'll have to try for yourself.
I had a successful day's shopping and I put it all down to breakfast! :)

• Tucked away behind the hustle of Tottenham Court Road lies not one, not two, but three gems. Gail’s Bakery and Gail’s Kitchen with Myhotel Bloomsbury appropriately sandwiched between the two. Gail’s Kitchen - a recent offshoot of the bakery with ex River Cafe chef James Adams fronting the kitchen. A daily changing menu of small plates from £7 upwards, many based around bread and cooked in the bread oven. Back to Myhotel, we stayed at the Brighton branch a while ago, read our review here
We were delighted to be invited to a preview evening, although unfortunately Ade was unable to make it. I took the opportunity to launch a fresh food blogger - Meals in my Heels into the blogging stratosphere.
Inside is a lovely space, light and rustic, white wired seats alongside a tan leather banquette that stretches along the wall. A welcome cocktail consisting of Earl Grey, rum and homemade marmalade was a struggle to make last. When something a simple as Fried artichoke with lemon gets you licking your fingers you know you’re onto a good thing. Warm nuggets of Aubergine, chickpea with sesame and nigella seeds were bursting with flavour that I didn’t want to leave my mouth.
This place is a wonderful bakery 🥐 and coffee ☕ shop! GAIL'S Bakery serves a wonderful selection of delicious 🤤 pastries, sweets🧁, bread 🍞, and sandwiches! 🥪 Definitely try their cookies 🍪 and puff pastry pastries! Staff 👨🍳 is friendly and helpful and the service is quick. ⏲️ I wish I knew about this place earlier!
Obviously Gail’s is a chain but you can always get good coffee and (albeit pricey) the best almond croissants.
Amazing bread. The pastries are also very good and the hot chocolate made with Island chocolate was great quality.
From all the reading online this was recommended for a scone out it town. It was super easy and delicious. It’s a chain in London but I would return for sure.
This is one of my most beloved cafes. The food and coffee are always delicious and the service is impeccable. Today, they really outdid themselves when I accidentally knocked over my coffee (because I’m a natural clumsy person) and before I could even react, they had already offered tissues and a fresh remade coffee. So thoughtful and sweet and helpful!
American here- but I live in NYC where we have tons of options (too many) and because of competition, everything has to be good. I often go into a new bakery or coffee shop when traveling with realistic expectations- that it could be hit or miss.
This was HIT. Everyone- GO TO GAIL’S.
This sausage roll was phenomenal, the Christmas Croissant and yoghurt pot was too. Honestly, this sausage roll might be something I grab a few to pack in my luggage for the trip home. I can’t stop thinking about it!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Nice coffee, and pastry. I’ve tried the cinnamon bun and chocolate almond croissant and its yummy.
I was looking to find scones in London for couple of days till I found it here!! Honestly it was pretty good. They gave many other fresh pastries to pick.
We didn't meet Gail!!!! Who is Gail? Where is she? I want to meet her for the fabulous flourless chocolate cake. Hot chocolate was bit small. And none of us got any spoons. We had to ask for a spoon twice. Otheit was an overall good experience.
I was introduced to this heavenly bakery by a friend. I had a croissant with chocolate & almonds (all in one!) and a Flat White coffee. So fresh and delicious! I now want to try pretty much everything from their menu :) All the baked goods are beautifuly displayed on the "island" in the middle of the bakery... so inviting & mouthwatering. The staff was friendly & helpful. There are a few seating spaces inside & outside.
Local chain bakery / coffee shop with delectable options. Had the ham and cheese croissant that was near perfect. Staff was courteous and prompt.
Found this place on Google and absolutely loved it when we went. The pan aux chocolate was amazing and the cinnamon rolls were beautiful. Go if you get the chance.
Just love Gail's pastry - recommend almond and choco croissant and flourless choco cake. They've got A very good selection of freshly baked pastry and bread, clean store and quick service. This store is not so busy.
Wow. Wee weekend trip to London, wanted to ensure we tried some "non-chain" options as there is so much to choose from.
Happily, of all the choices I'm glad Gail's was where we landed for lunch! Absolutely delicious, fresh, tasty filling food, and one of the best cups of coffee I've had in recent memory.
Highly recommended - though you may struggle for a seat as it's very popular!
Shhh don't tell anyone...
The best pastry and coffee suntrap in London. But don't let anyone else know. It's our little secret.
Looking out over a beautiful square and so close to central. The almond croissant is the one and the coffee is awesome. The staff are all excellent. Our go to when we have a spare morning or friends visiting.
