Very tasty food, coffee, and great prices! I always take visiting colleagues here for lunch and they love it
Awesome Indian food . Excellent, prepared freshly and served with a very nice and professional staff not to mention the highly prompt and punctual service as well.
One of the few fine dining Indian restaurants in London with great quality food and ambience. Would highly recommend their mutton chops!
Amazing place in London. I love the food. can’t wait to come back here again. Congratulations to the staff.
Veeraswamy is said to be the first ever Indian restaurant in the UK. It is a great place for fine dining. Food was delicious and well presented. They have a business lunch menu which is a great option with many choices. Dessert was a bit of a letdown. Definitely worth trying if you haven't been here!
I went there during Christmas time when regent street is all decked up and got a window side table which had one of the best view that I have seen. The food is really good and service is also fast, they offer normal food but have a distinctive taste which makes it special
Ate there a few days before Christmas. Was sat at a table overlooking Regents Street. Fantastic views. Food was excellent, distinctive yet familiar dishes and flavours. Impressive location, friendly staff, great food.
A historic and posh place and a worthy recipient of a Michelin star. I liked the place.
Make it a point reserve in advance. I ordered the indian thali. They did not have the amrut fusion in stock which was a shame, because it would have gone perfectly with the food. Recommended.
Very nice food...but the person at the front desk was way arrogant.....the manager from Goa was very nice but that Indian guy may be Bengali was very very arrogant and didn't knew how to speak to customers
One of the best indian dine restaurant.ambiance of the place excellent .I ordered amritseri chop which is really good.its perfect place to dine out..
Visited london a few months back and a friend recommended I order from here after it became popular with the crowds shortly after it opened.
Ordered some chicken Biryank and I was surprised with how aptly the rice was cooked with the chicken and assorted veggies.
The taste was delectable and the combination perfect!
Service-4/5
Ambience-3/5
Food-4/5
Simply brilliant !
Veeraswamy has perfected every dish on their menu. The bread basket had a chilli flavoured roti that was delicious. Both the desserts I ordered were too good. Dining at Veeraswamy is an experience in itself :)
Positives - location, simply delicious food, ambience, service
Negatives - 2 cocktails, starters, 2 main course, 2 desserts and £120 gone !! EXPENSIVE.
This is Indian fine dining at its best. I loved the crab soup and Amritsari chops which I thought tender and well spiced.
The location is super and the customer service is exemplary.
Finally after multiple failed attempts we got the chance to go to Veeraswamy. Heard so much about this indian restaurant. The food and experience was simply awesome. However, I have to say that you should be ready to pay more to experience the ambiance, service and of course the michelin star. Service was very welcoming. We were bit surprised that Veg Dum Biryani was not on the menu for which we were told it was some sort of a compromise they had to make. Cant say much on that comment. We ordered drinks and I enjoyed the cocktail. We ordered veg platter for starter - Soya Samosa, Chandni Paneer Tikka, and Dahi papdi. I wanted to taste Raj Kachori which was divine. The spice levels were simply perfect e.g., not too much of chaat masala or too much of dahi. chandni paneer tikka was so tender and fresh. Soya samosa was good. For mains we ordered veg selection platter consisting of Hara Paneer, Daal (sindhi style slowly cooked three lentils), chettinad aloo and subz kofta. Hara Paneer's gravy was very good. The moment I tasted the aloo I was reminded of chettinad dishes I used to have in chennai. It was not very hot but at the same time retained the flavour of chettinad. Kofta was good. Enjoyed the Daal which was again cooked well. Overall all the dishes appeared fresh with authentic flavours and taste. One good thing was that the food didnt have too much of oil.
I would make couple of suggestions. The mirchi naan could have been be bit more hot e.g., couldnt taste the chilli that much. They have to improve the online booking system. I tried to book online through my phone and it didnt show availability and when my wife tried it showed availability. She booked online but she didnt get any email confirmation. Later, she called the restaurant and they said that as there was no slot available the system wouldnt have sent an booking confirmation email. But later they told that one slot is available around 5.30 and this slot was not visible to me on the online booking system. Didn't understand why some of the alcoholic drinks were bit pricey.
The crab cutlets here are to die for! The mutton biriyani was good,Angara chicken tikka was delicious and so was the Kerala(or was it travancore?🤔)prawn curry. The service is fast, friendly and efficient. My only grouse was that they had a minimum order value per person and that was around 30-40 pounds, which I find irritating and not necessary at all! Otherwise,a great place to go to when you are craving for fish curry, biriyani and of course, crab cutlets!! Definitely the best Indian food in London!
Strategic location on Regent Street. Nice ambiance. Friendly staff. Food quality is high. One observation we had that the food take long time till we receive. Other than that things were excellent. We had very tasty fresh mango lassi, biryani, better chicken and naan. Highly recommended restaurant and definitely I will go again
This place takes you back in time with its ambience. Raj kachori was amazing.
Must treat their tasting menu.
Service was a little disappointment.
One of the best Indian food I've had! It's a bit pricey but totally worth it! This is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London. And it got awarded with one star Michelin this year. The location of the restaurant is very central and convenient. The food was delicious and not as greasy as the other Indian restaurants I've been. Highly recommend Raj kachori. It's the best dish I had!
They are one of the best that I ever tried, Indian food never disappoints me, even the staff was friendly and kind 👌🏼
I say it every time and I’ll say it again – Indian food really is my secret guilty pleasure. I love bold flavours, intense spicing a little bit of heat and service in an Indian restaurant is always outstanding. The only bad part about it all is the sheer calories, butter and clarified ghee it all contains, though it makes it all taste good. With our Indian cravings calling we found ourselves at Veeraswamy – the UK’s oldest Indian restaurant on Regent Street.
This is the most expensive indian food I have ever had but totally worth it. The panner was better than most restaurants in India and just melted in my mouth. Pav bhaji was not too spicy and raj kachori a welcome delight in the hot summer weather. Keep in mind that they expect you to spend at least 30£ per person and also have a dress code. I had a issue with the latter as I was in slippers.
Totally outstanding . Lives up to all the hype . I can say that the food was better than many places in India ! You don't mind spending at a place where both food and staff is outstanding !
Decided to break my lent fast with a dinner at Veeraswamy. Menu was quite interesting with all selective stuffs in it and not overcrowded with other usual stuff. Started with quail and it was my first try. It was nice and crunchy. The curry leaves were an add on surprise. The lamb pasand a just took our hearts with its soft perfectly cooked lamb with the spices flown through them. The creamy balanced flavour just melted in our mouth. The chicken biryani was subtle and flavoured with not so spicy and sweet. It was exactly how the biryani shud b. But strangely it wasn't served with raita. The poppadums and its chutney were not so impressive though.. Quantity was good. So overall it was a nice interesting experience. Will recommend it to others.
This is good food here. In fact it is excellent. But it is so pricey. I wish I could go back. But there is more value to be had. But I guess it is about the experience of going to the oldest Indian restaurant in London.
Two days In a row and visited another fabulous Indian restaurant in London.
Loved the entrance to the place with the old history it has.
Very different to Amaya in which this place was very South Indian ( which is one of my favorite cuisine ) for the emaratis like me this might not be to there palate although they do have options from north India.
I went for the AlooPuri to start with it was excellent followed by a grilled prawns which was again great.
Mains went for three curries Prawn Coconut curry, Lobster Mango Curry , and last but not least a chicken Makhani.
All the three curries were fantastic without any complains.
As well we tried the Biryani which was ordinary.
Ambience 4/5
Food 4.5/5
Service 4/5?
Wow. the oldest Indain restaurant in London . Love the place and the food. My favourite item is the 'Malwani Chicken'. it's a sindhi dish, not too spicy and very flavorful. A great deal of thought goes into any dish and I can tell you every item that i've had there has always hit the spot. Oh, and try the chicken bajia, crispy and unique.
Veeraswamy has great food all round, from the starters to the currys and biryani it's all good here. Also dessert was amazing.
Great place !
An amazing Indian food restaurant in the middle of central london...what makes it even more fascinating is the fact that it is the oldest indian restaurant in london. We ordered a three course meal, the chicken bhajiya starter was a pleasant surprise. ..nothing what we had expected. The chicken biryani, prawn curry and chicken masala preparations were different and took us back to authentic flavours of india. And the vallapatnam dessert was out of the world...must must try.....A home away from home. Price is on the higher side. Meal for four cost us 136 pounds.
This place has an amazing collection of portraits and photographs. The decor is regal.
About the food: its Indian so its obviously delicious. If you're going for the first time, don't experiment. Stick to what you know is going to be great. Cause a lot of the food tastes different than what one would get in India.
Would definitely eat here again though. One of the best in London.
Being one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London, is what got me interested in trying out this place as I love anything which has a sense of history behind it.
The ambience is gorgeous and I love the rose petals kept on the table!
This fancy restaurant can accommodate quite a lot of people however, making a reservation is recommended.
The food was excellent and so was the service. This particular dish that I ordered, called chicken chatpatta was extremely spicy and this is coming from a person who can eat a lot of spicy food. So, try it only if you're ardent about spicy food like myself. The rest of the dishes cater to everyone's palette.
I highly recommend this place, it is officially my new favourite!!
Literally , this is the best Indian restaurant that has existed!! The ambience ,service , decorations , the vibes and most importantly the FOOD is perfect!! Raj kachoori, the appetiser that keeps me burning in the inside when I do not have a taste of it. Veeraswamy also does chicken lollipops , they are so delicious and mouthwatering !! A prominent feature of this restaurant is that it serves the right and exact amount of portions per dish!
Main courses:
Chicken tikka: amazing , tasty , perfect! Not even a word could describe its taste !! 😍😍
Butter chicken: the best in town!! It comes with 8 pieces of chicken per portion! I am literally okay with eating this my entire life for its unbelievable deliciousness.
Chicken biryani: a masterpiece of art made by the most talented chefs in the world. You can even detect the spices and the ingredients with only one spoon!
Subzee: a vegetarian subzee along with cheese I think so. Tasty!
And that was my review, if you want me to do a review of another restaurant located in London, please tell me and post a comment on the comment section below. Thanx !
As I've said before I'm not a big fan of expensive and snooty restaurants and they simply bring out the worst critic in me. Veeraswamy boasts about being the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK, well then turn it into a museum! Ok I'm being too harsh. The starters were good but the main course was all sorts of confusing. Too much spice too little flavour. Just random masalas dumped into the biryani in the hope that at least one will work. The menu is meagre so you expect even more from each dish. No desserts!!! India has a wide variety of sweet meats and you've got SORBET!
Wow!!
Surprise no. 1: a fine dining restaurant at picadilly
Surprise no. 2: its started by an Englishman
Surprise no. 3: its jam packed by Englishmen
Surprise no. 4: the painting on the walls doesn't necessarily depict true India. Or maybe it's some ancient secrets I am not aware of..
Surprise no. 5: the food is really really good - it can compete with any of the Indian restaurants. We tried the Raj kachori, the veg curry platter (kofta, paneer, bhindi and dal) and the bread basket. None of these dishes have been better before. Kaala jaam was good - possibly could be better..
Also try the mirchi martini - truly innovative..
Must try for every person, Indian or not!!
Excellent Food. Excellent Location. Perfect Ambience.
Lamb Chops is one of the best items to be tried here. It is not the typical lamb chops, it is prepared in rich cashew nut gravy with lots of flavours in it.
If you are in Indian you must visit this place just to step into the history. Please keep in mind that the food is adjusted to the English taste buds but it still won't disappoint you at all.
I visited this restaurant with my family. It was a really good place for the vegetarian specifically. Being a vegetarian, one often find 2 or 3 items on any menu, but to have such an extensive menu full of vegetarian & vegan varieties was quite a treat. I had a hard time choosing. And the food when it arrived, it was sizzling. The taste was good. I really loved this place and wish to go back soon.
The best Indian Restaurant in London. We made a reservation for our Sunday lunch and very much enjoyed our time.
The three course menu is a very attractive offer, especially taking the superb quality and the very nice service into consideration.
The restaurant offers a remarkably authentic Indian cuisine on a top execution level. A very sophisticated handling of spices and flavours, which is for sure difficult to top.
We had a chicken and a lamp chunk dish. Both were excellent.
I'll be back for sure!
Posh. Veeraswamy may be the highest end Indian food place I have ever been. Budget should be 100+ per head. the service and food quality are exceptional.
Shrimp appetizers were fantastic as well as the crab cake apps. The wide array of traditional dishes we ordered were all exceptional.
For dessert I highly recommend the Chocolate Martini. Fantastic!
Posh Indian resturant in Central London.6/10. This restaurant is very expensive with great food and great service! The budget is around £100 per head.
Bright decor, perhaps too much in a way. I really like Lobster curry . Each curry has very delicate flavor. It might to change your image of curry. It's good to use for business dinner or very special occations.
I would like to go there again near future.
Wow.. Jan 2nd..
Walked into the door and asked if they had a table... Come back in one hour we were told. We came back in 30 minutes and hostess took our jackets and we took the elevator up to the 2nd floor restaurant.
Service- very very formal.
Drink refills- bottled water and alcohol drinks refills were very slow.
Food- I'm not an expert on Indian food, but everything my dad, brother and I ate was great... Everything had incredible flavors and was served hot.
Return or recommend?
I can't wait to go back.
Classy & Pricy.. We ate from the tasting menu (£42). It's laid out as 5 courses on the menu but the 2 mains actually arrive together, to be shared. Food was of a high standard consistently; this is classy & refined Indian, which at full price is also at the top end. Starter of lamb patties were flavoursome & well spiced. We adored the tandoori jumbo prawn that followed, a real highlight that showed careful cooking of a fine ingredient & thoughtful flavour combinations - it came with a very enjoyable orange chutney.
Mains followed with a nicely balanced chicken curry, fragrant with coconut, ginger & curry leaves. But the lamb rogan josh tasted one dimensional. We felt it could carry a more robust level of spicing as the lamb flavour was very strong. The pieces of lamb, on the bone, could be more tender, but the marrow was intact, which is a nice touch. The mains were accompanied by good, proper naan & pilau, as well as some very moreish crushed potatoes. Mango sorbet was very well made; refreshing & not overly sweet, and generous with 2 scoops.
It was a lot of food, so don't feel tempted to order extras like poppadumns, etc. The 3 carbs that came with the mains definitely went their way to fill us up, but they were well made with none of the naan, rice or potato being greasy or oily. Service was very friendly & professional. We felt very comfortable & welcomed.
Warm professional attentivestaff, excellent views of Regent Street and the finest Indian food North of the river. Good for both business meetings but romantc enough for special nights out. Highly recommended.
I liked it. 40 years ago!!"!
I found Veeraswamy on my blackberry and the idea of eating in the oldest Indian restaurant in London sounded kind of neat. I pictured an old fashioned, pickled interior and I was looking forward to it. The entry way is a tiny corridor with an elevator, al
The food was tasty, id say this way my favorite Indian restaurant in london so far, i recommend it. But i suggest you book ahead of time. Their kulfee was to die for! ❤️❤️❤️
Our tour of Indian restaurants continued yesterday with a visit to Veeraswamy for lunch with friends.
It had been a while since our last visit to this "grande dame" of London Indian restaurants, but we were looking forward to return. The contrast between the narrow entrance hall off Regent Street and the spacious restaurant upstairs is even greater at lunchtime, when the restaurant is filled with light from the large windows facing the street. We were showed to a table by the window (better for our photos!)
We ordered cocktails: my wife had the guava and passionfruit mojito, and I had a Bombay blush - not sweet at all, grapefruit based, very good.
Our friends arrived and we ordered. For starters, I had the two kebabs (chicken and lamb), served with mint and coriander chutney - very good. My wife went for the veggie option: a very good looking Raj Kachori, a puri shaped like a nest, filled with potatoes and other vegetables and smothered in yoghurt, chutneys and pomegranate seeds (served cold). She was not convinced by the taste, though, and half of it stayed on the plate.
For mains, I ordered the tandoori raan - lamb shank off the bone, served with a cashewnut gravy - very good. My wife went for the lamb biryani - a huge portion, but not as good as the one she had at Gymkhana the other day. A nice Valpolicella was a great fit with these meaty dishes.
I left a bit of room for dessert, and was very happy with my choice of the almond halwa tart, served with vanilla ice cream.
The service was prompt and professional, as you would expect from a restaurant that's been around for almost 90 years. Veeraswamy is aleays a good bet if you want to impress visitors to London, or even for a business dinner (they also have a nice private dining room upstairs).
It was delightful to visit Veeraswamy today for lunch. All my previous visits to this place have been over dinner and we were worried about lunch time rush, service or quality. Food and service was great and business lunch menu is best if you are short on time. Will visit again for business lunch.
One of the oldest Indian restaurants in London comes with a lot of reputation to live up to. So we decided to test it out on our 10th wedding anniversary. The chicken kasundi and grilled prawns came with an impeccable presentation. And they did not disappoint on taste too. But what blew us away was the Kerala prawns curry. The flavours of South India bursting through at every morsel, leaving the aroma of spices even after we were done. This was one gastronomic experience made all the more delightful by the thoughtful sorbet got by our waitress for our anniversary. Service was attentive and non intrusive. @realindianfood
I usually do not write reviews but this place was so good that i wanted every one to know about it. The decor of this place is very attractive and spacious. Service is decent. The major reason to go to this place is their food. We liked the food so much that we ordered almost each appetizer on their menu. They serve one of the best Indian food.
The place is really nice and the food was good too but really spicy. The staff is helpful and friendly, let them know id you don't went your food to be too spicy. It is a little overpriced, but the experience is enjoyble and I will definitely go back.
Visiting this place on recommendations from a local, i could not be more glad. To begin with, excellent service. From beginning to end of meal staff was very attentive. Coming to food, We had curry which was incredible. Food is cooked luxuriously. Only downside, tip is flamboyant and undeserving! Duck madras is a MUST try!
I have had no complaints at the restaurant except for the fact that the menu is overpriced. The food is delicious but not exceptionally so. the service is decent too. there are similar substitutes at cheaper prices and that is the only downside to this place. The interiors are simple.
I recently tried this upscale place and had a wonderful time here. The food was excellent, especially the curries which were cooked to perfection and the quantities were just right. The drinks were amazing, especially the champagne. If only they had some more space... Anyhow, the whole experience was quite wonderful and thus, I would love to visit this place again and would recommend others to try it as well.
I decided this place for a business dinner as i was getting a great private room keeping in mind the need of my clients. They were offering multiple courses on their menu. Each dish was appealing and appetizing. My clients were really impressed and happy with this place. Highly recommended!
We had a very good time enjoying the high standard meal they have perfected over the years of their existence. The decor inside was very beautiful and the quick and efficient service was a cherry on top. We ordered quite a few dishes, including tempura and vegetarian platter, all of which were probably the best from those offered in the city. The special part of our dinner was the vegetable bhajia starter though. The food is quite expensive but seems to be worth the delectable food, beautiful ambiance and prompt service.
Veeraswamy is good place to visit. It provides you with really good cocktails, the one's which we had were prosecco and martini which were pretty decent enough. It also offers you with delicious street food while maintaining the essence of the street with the perfect flavors. The food served looked so appealing and was yum to have with the adequate amount of gravy. At the end, we ordered a warm sugary donut and that just completed our perfect dinner.
Though the prices ain't cheap but it's worth it.
The place has a loud and bright decor which will surely entice kids at least. Not easy to find, a purple doorway leads you to this restaurant. To begin with, the service is incredible and the price is directly proportional to the quality of food. The place is surely very expensive but the restaurant is best i have ever been to! A must try!
I am glad to have visited this place. We ordered from the tasting menu, and the meal was lovely. The service was brilliant and the menu had the biggest variety of Indian cuisines. It was brilliant in all. The pineapple curry and the coconut creme brulee. I cannot describe just how perfect they tasted. They have a brilliant procedure of attending to people, and from point go, it was the most immaculate service I have ever witnessed. This place really sets an example for other restaurants to follow. I am definitely returning and ordering a larger curry the next time.
I was recommended to this place by a friend whose opinion I respect, and decided to visit it with my partner. I had a two-course lunch here. The chicken tikka was flavoursome and succulent, and duck was perfectly minced and marinated. The meat was little too tender and happened to be overcooked in certain places. The halibut was delicious and flavourful. The service was amazing, and the staff is really friendly and nice. It is a little overpriced, but worth the effort.
If you are looking for good quality and authentic food in the city, this is your answer! Go for the tasting menu here as it will give you a taste of everything divine this place has on offer.
You will surely love the lentil soup and the flavourful shrimp platter.
This place is calm and quiet and therefore is best suited for intimate occasions.
The place offers the best Indian food I have ever had. All the dishes that we ordered were extremely delectable and delicious. The chicken Tikka is worth giving a try. The wine list is also quite extensive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice, hearty Indian meal and will definitely come back to dine again.
This place tops my list and the reason for this is the amazing experience i had at the place. The interior is fancy and the view of the posh street incredible. The place highly suitable for both intimate meals and professional meetups. This place in my opinion, serves supreme quality Indian food.Do visit.
It was earlier this week that I bumped into an old friend on a social media and we planned to meet and all that jazz. We wanted to go to an Indian restaurant and finally ended up being here. It was pretty little place and old fashioned that had this sort of a vintage feel. Good food, good service and pocket friendly.
We had to wait for a little while to get a table and when we comfortably seated, the staff took our order. The service was quite a professional one though they took a lot of time in refilling our glasses. Though I don't have much knowledge about the Indian food but can safely say that whatever I tried was absolutely delicious. The dishes had very good flavours and I will definitely return to this restaurant again.
I thoroughly enjoyed my order which was Greens Prawns and Chicken Tikka. Such well cooked meat, with the right level of spices to bring out the best flavours in the food. A mouth watering experience, well worth the money!
This is quite a pricey place, but it serves amazing food and has impeccable service. But the price is actually a little high. The decor is very nice and colourful and it adds to the character of the place. I really enjoyed my lobster curry. It had an exquisite flavour, and changed how I have viewed curries. I am going to visit again soon.
Lovely Indian food on offer for some very premium prices. The food is so yummy. everything cooked to perfection, and so fresh. The quality of service is wonderful too, and they give you no reason to complain. The appetizers, the main menu, and the desserts, all were equally good, would love to come back here soon.
This place is classy yet casual in feel and offers refined Indian food at top notch quality. The overall experience is enhanced even further when one digs into the sumptuous lamp patties and lip smacking Indian delicacies. The tasty orange dip/chutney is to die for!
Nicely balanced and flavoursome chicken for the mains, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
The menu is quite an extensive one. We recently went there and tried several dishes. Out of all those that we tried, the chicken tikka was the best. The rest of the meal was also good but chicken tikka definitely was the star for us. I would recommend you all to try this place some time.
This is an amazing restaurant. They have the most fabulous setting, and amazing decor. They have a brilliant location, that is easily accessible. I came here with my family while touring the city on the recommendation of an acquaintance, and I was delighted by my experience. The martini ordered was divine and my cousin really enjoyed the chicken tikka. The side dish of yogurt and walnut was the winner though. It is the greatest Indian place in the world.
This place serves really delicious Indian food. The service was top notch and I must mention that the staff was very obliging and took good care of us. They planned all our courses perfectly and it was the best Indian meal we had till date. The staff also made sure, from time to time, that we were satisfied with our meals which kind of was very nice on their part.
I have been going to this place frequently and love it because it does not offer the standard Indian cuisine and there are a range of dishes available here from other parts of India which I hadn't tried before. If in doubt, ask the staff for recommendations - an absolute must try!
In India we run after finding good western cuisines but being away from home country makes you realise how much you love your traditional cuisine! The flavours and that aroma of Indian spices takes you back to your home giving some relief if you are homesick! And this is a place to add on................
Being situated in the most famous shopping district of London(Regent street) the man in a full Indian costume standing in front of the door makes you feel pride!
Well coming to ambience- beautifully decorated. The restaurant is L Shape- pretty big and tables well set.
Service was also good and the staff was knowledgable and charismatic.
The cocktails were also original(not indian).
The food was good(not best) not much for vegetarians( which dissapointed me) but the options tastes good .
Need a reservation before coming.
I went here with a group of my Indian friends, and it is always a good sign when they enjoy it too, because then you know it a real authentic meal.
Veeraswamy is the oldest Indian restaurant in London, established in 1926, and it is a little on the fancy side. The decor is really beautiful and it is easy to get into a good mood, with the lighting and decorations. And the food is amazing. There is so much flavour and they are presented beautifully.
It is a feast for the eyes just as much as for the stomach!
Modern South Indian restaurant in London. Been here four times, I personally recommend to try their signature dish "Raj Kachori" and my fav paneer tikka starter.
Good food.... Great ambience! Loved the kulfi..will be back to try the Sunday brunch on offer. Would love to have some South Indian add ons to the menu though.
Stylish. Indian with a modern twist. Saver the experience should you go,
Our lunch at Veerasamy was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Everything from the beginning was top class, the ambience, the reception, the food, the hospitality. Never seen anything better.
The story behind our trip to this restaurant is actually quite a funny one. After about a week of living on sandwiches and salads, the average indian person craves something hot and spicy. Hence I began my google search for Indian restaurants in the area. Veerswamy, I believe was third on the list, but we decided to go here because the name is popularly a Chettinad name, which is known for its authentic spicy food. But, we were taken by surprise when we walked into the restaurant. The menu read dishes from all over India. And we decided to order because our stomaches were growling after having to take 3 trains. For drinks, I ordered a Lychee Lemonade, my mum asked for the rhubarb and rose lassi and my dad opted for a beer. Seriously the taste of lychee lemonade is heaven after a hot day in London. And for our starters, we ordered green herb paneer tikka and chicken lollipops, which were served to us in no time. For our mains we asked for the crescent platter, which is a genius idea because you get to taste four different sides and a Kerala prawn curry and some bread and rice. We were served almost immediately after we were done with the starters. The food was hot, tasted amazing, our waiter was great. No complains. Best £108 spent!
One of the first Fine dinining authentic Indian restaurants in London and very Central on Regent street. Have been there a few times and have loved the food and ambience. The entrance is a side street gives it all the appeal it needs but once you are up there, it is quite nice and spacious. The food is great and very original as compared to many other Indian restaurants which have a shade of Bangledeshi and Pakistani touch. This is good food.
A slice of the Raj in London. Excellent food and décor.
Has to be one among the best Indian restaurants in London. The food is great, prefer South Indian. Please remember that the food is a bit altered to suit the local palette. So if you are from the asian community and expect a lot of spice, you may be disappointed.
Veeraswamy is a historical Indian restaurants in London, located in elegant Mayfair, it was created by the little son of a British general and his Indian princess, 80 years ago!
Two sisters have found the Veeraswamy and have refurbished it. The decor reminds one of a Maharaja palace. The 3m high ceiling is richly decorated, and walls are covered with colorful turbans that belonged to the former owners of the premises. The menu reflects Veeraswamy several types of Indian regional cuisines, a must for tourists visiting London. A place full of charm and history!
This restaurant claims to be one of the oldest in UK and perhaps, the best one.
You are greeted by splendidly-attired door staff. The entrance is a bit hidden in a side alley. You take the elevator to get to the restaurant upstairs and Wow, mesmerized by the ornate chandeliers. The decor is understated, yet tasteful.
The ambience is unsurpassed. Our table had a gorgeous view of Regent Street in Picadilly Circus. The food is as good and authentic as it can possibly get, with outstanding service to match. The flavors rich and subtle.
Must try the raj kachori. Its brilliant!!
This a a great place for a relaxed meal that can be savoured -- not a place to eat if you are in a rush.
The timing of each course provided sufficient time to enjoy and savour the previous dish without waiting too long for the next.
We have tried Sunday lunch that costs £25 for a 3 course meal.
An upscale Indian restaurant that stands out from other indian restaurants in London,
It offers an all together finer-dining affair.
A very classy Indian restaurant highly recommended
Entrance tucked in a small alley on Regent Street. One of the first formal dining Indian restaurant.
Nice ambience, something different from other fine dining Indian restaurants.
Although not as good as the flagship restaurant from the group "Amaya", but worth a visit.
Favourite Dish: Lamb Rogunjosh with Rice.
Great food in an exceptionally pretty place. Forget the moribund tourist trap this place used to be -- it's all revitalized now, by the people who run Chutney Mary, one of our other London favourites. There's a wonderful energy in the air here, and our warm, sparkling waitress spoke perfect English. She "got" that we're serious foodies interested in trying their less typical dishes, and she steered us enthusiastically into swell surprises that we'd never have known to try. This really is a cut above the other Indian restaurants in a town crowded with good ones. Expensive, yes, alas, but look at the expensive real estate it's got, and the wonderful time you have here. It's an "event" evening, and great delicious fun. We're eager to return
It is one of the oldest/vintage fine dining Indian restaurant in London and is centrally located-just off Piccadilly circus. The prices are bit on a higher side but the food, service and ambiance is all perfect.
The Raj Kachori is a must...its quite yummy. The main course is equally good.
Did not have desserts...those having a sweet tooth can try gulab jamun and kulfi
Veeraswamy is known to be one of oldest Indian restaurants in London. It is located at the picadilly circus ..Some may think that this is an expensive place. But I would say it is totally worth it !
The Sunday brunch is an Experience ...I went there on a couple outing. We were 8 of us. The chandeliers and the decor give this place a palace type feeling. We got a circular table where each one could see everyone else and have an enjoyable conversation over lunch which did not seem long at all even if we were there for close to 4 hours.
Starting with the Raj Kachori ..highly recommended ...to the gulab jamun i enjoyed every bit of it ! We had ordered for the 3- course Sunday lunch for 25 per person and believe me it was worth the money we paid.
Wonderful for a long lunch if you want to be treated to incessant good food being served at your table.
This is my fifth review and I am here rating another Indian restaurant.
I didn't want myself to be tagged as a "curry craver", but I had to bring to notice, for the sake of other foodies this great Indian place, probably the oldest Indian restaurant in London which is so perfect in terms of ambiance, decor, service and of course food.
"Veeraswamy" located on Regent Street brings back the charm of grand and highly ornate Indian palaces. Alluring chandeliers and bright colorful lamps prepare you to dine in style.
I was very impressed by the hospitality of the staff, they are very patient and give you the time and space to decide your order.
The food, is darn sexy. Each course from the starters to the main course and the dessert has that Indian authenticity and flavor that you cant stop craving for more.
For non vegetarians the "Kashmiri Rogan Josh" is a must have.
BUDGET ALERT!!!! Well all the best things in the world aren't for free. A meal for two can cost up-to 100-115£ but you can always go and try the Sunday lunch which is available for approx 25£
This place is worth a visit.

This restaurant proudly displays its pedigree - it claims to be UK's oldest restaurant. It surely should be reason to celebrate as it can also claim to be one of the best!
I have been to Veeraswamy couple of times, one for a business dinner and another for a lazy Sunday brunch with friends - both have been one of the best meals I ever had. Though located almost bang in middle of Piccadilly circus, it is difficult to find the small entrance. The restaurant is on the first floor and seems like a place lost in time.
The food is delicious, try the Raj Kachori and Rogan Josh for sure. The service is slow, but who cares for a speedy service on a relaxed Sunday lunch! They do Sunday lunch for £25 for 3 courses, which is an absolute bargain as normal dinner would surely set you back by 50-60 per person without drinks.
Its one of the oldest Indian restaurant in London and truly authentic. A true Gem of home to dine if you are big fan of Indian food. I was there for hours appreciating and enjoying the service the service, the meals, the atmosphere, the view and everything else in-between, the servers looked after us were amazing, caring and professional. The intention to detail when we were served was delightful. I love this place, the presentation was fab and food looked really good I felt like an important relative as I entered through the door, this is a very important part of a relationship in dining. I will never experience anything quite like this in any other restaurants.
Authentic fine dining indian cuisine, in the heart of Piccadilly. Been to this restaurant a couple of times and always had a pleasant experience.
The food is good quality, the service is good not excellent but there is a long wait between courses. Unfortunately I find the food is quite overpriced so I don't think I will go there again.
I went to this great place for Sunday lunch. They have an excellent offer on Sundays for 3 course meal for 25 pounds per person. Quite a good deal if you consider the quality of food and service. The lamb main course was splendid, and chat starters very good. The food does take some time to arrive but you would expect that in a place which does not serve reheated meals!
must visit for all authentic Indian food lovers.
We dined on a Sunday evening and the place was full so booking is definitely recommended. The restaurant is located upstairs (there is a lift) and has a really homely atmosphere. Staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. We opted for the tasting menu which was £75 pp (all table needs to have this) which for a Michelin star restaurant I think is reasonable. Food was outstanding, every course was delicious and the portions were perfectly sized. Rice and naan breads are plentiful and they are happy to bring more if required. Highly recommended
Went here to celebrate our anniversary. Amazing experience and super delicious food. We got the tasting menu which was very filling and delicious.
The highlight was the chicken Tikka starter - which even though I've had it a million times at various places - this one was the most tender and flavorful chicken I've ever had.
Will come back for sure.
Five stars just for the fact that the chicken has saffron in it, an incredibly rare find when so many other restaurants claim to use the ingredient without actually doing so. Service was good and friendly and I dug their take on gulab jamun as well 👍🏽
This is the real deal. Incredibly friendly service. You really feel taken care of and at home.
Astonishing dishes filled with flavor. Variety and subtlety. Layers. Not just heat.
A family atmosphere filled with warmth and smiles.
As someone who is Indian and travelled to india on numerous occasions. I was fed up of going to going to all the “Gourmet” Indian restaurants in London that classify themselves as authentic but just do not hit the spot.
Finally, after visiting Veeraswamy, I can highly recommend a fine dining Indian restaurant that lives up to its standards.
The food was nicely presented, with decent portion sizes, amazing traditional flavours with good service.
Prices are high, but that’s what is expected from a place like this. The taste lives up to the standards.
I would highly recommend the Chicken Makhani Au Vin, and the Non Veg Platter.
What a fantastic gem of a place. Went here for my 50th birthday before a trip to the theatre. The food was outstanding and the staff absolutely fabulous. Only negative was that we didn't have time to stay longer. Will definitely return should we visit London again! highly recommend
Wine Pairing Price = $56 (45 British pounds)
Retail Value = $12
Markup = 480%
There were 4 glasses paired with the meal. It's lovely that the restaurant will print on the menu what they are in advance. Generally, the retail cost the bottles was $27, except the rosé appears to be exceptionally cheap under $10. None of the wines were exceptional, but they all paired well with the meal and wer nice sized pours (probably 3.5 ounces).
The food was so delicious. I loved every bit of it. Service was great as well as the ambiance.
I would definitely return, but get a bottle of something or go by the glass.
Amazing food with a well-manicured menu. The service could be better, but it was definitely Michelin-worthy. Would highly recommend this for anyone’s first exposure to Indian cuisine in London. Ask for a window seat!
Have you ever had a meal that was so incredibly moving, you cried? The emotions that the food here illicit are undeniably powerful. If I could give this culinary kingdom more stars, I would! Everything I had was beyond words. Go, just GO!
In London, you can find one of the best Indian cuisine experiences at this restaurant, which has been awarded a Michelin star.
Wonderful flavors make it a must-visit.
