My wife and I went to Langans's for my birthday and it was great. The food and service was spot on, can't wait to go back when we are next in town.

Fine dining is something which is completely foreign and scary to me. I managed to win a meal through work so was super excited to finally try something new. The decor of this place is simple but very impressive. The staff were so friendly and as expected the service was first class. My food was fantastic. Everything was well cooked and the choices were very enticing. I can't talk about the prices and value as I did not have to pay for my meal. I highly recommend the apple pie. :)

1st night in London. Wife an I arrived late Sat evening, 8pm whoa. #1 they were open, hotel restaurant wasn't, I found this amazing.
#2 Langan's had a reasonable menu, I personally like to try the local fair. My wife had Seabass and I had Steak Hache. Both were acceptable esp. as late as it.... The Lemon Menigue was quite nice.
I recommend.....quite nicely!
BTW we're NY'ers.

Langan’s Brasserie surprised me. I did not expect it to be as good as it was. For a long long time I had no interest in going there, as it looked like it had been there for many years and I thought it was one of these restaurants living on formal glory and not actually being any good. Also it does not look that attractive from the outside and one of my lunch buddies Felipe said he thought it was similar to something like Garfunkels with the bright red sign outside. Langan’s Brasserie is indeed very old. It is located in Mayfair, just by Green Park station and was first opened in 1976 by Peter Langan and has hosted celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Mohammed Ali and more. It is also particularly famous for its artwork, walls are adorned with works by artists David Hockney, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon and more. They also apparently don’t rush p

Langan's Brasserie is something of a London restaurant legend. Now coming up on its 36th year, it opened as a partnership between Irish entrepreneur Peter Langan and the actor Michael Caine which was enough in itself to draw in the celebrity crowd and Langan's was one of the places to eat in the eighties. Langan is now dead and Michael Caine sold up, but Langan's continues on unabashed, its website still claiming that it 'remains one of London's top eateries to be seen in for Celebrities, business people and Joe public alike'. An almost stubborn unwillingness on the part of Langan's to change will either endear this restaurant to your heart or ensure a hasty retreat in the other direction. It has not for example been embraced by the blogger community, where Urbanspoon shows just a single blog post dated 2008, (so all those people who want to avoid bloggers when you eat, this is a good a bet as any). The menu is broadly unchanged since opening and one imagines that staff are similarly l

Langan's is an elegant London restaurant with a really nice atmosphere but a menu that I wouldn't travel far for. Overall, coming to Langan's is a nice experience. The restaurant is elegant and the service is really great.

They've called themselves a brasserie; however, I thought that the menu was more British than typical brasserie food. Although the food was made quite well, I felt that the menu was really not extensive and we had very few choices, all of which we're quite similar.

Langan Brasserie, Stratton Street – From the outside of the restaurant, Langan's Brasserie says big business. Every window pane has Langan name with illuminated red fluorescent lights. Pushing through the solid entrance door, is a semi-hemisphere enclosure draped with thick velvet curtain. Presence of a cloak room, slightly chaotic in a charming way and, and, and..... there were more than one maitre d', wow, I like the style!

Stepping inside Langan's is like a transformation from the pandemonium on Piccadilly Street. In Langan's the low yellow lighting, interior decoration and uniformed waiters take me to the London style I used to watch on television. It feels like stepping into the past but not too far in the past. I am baffled with the place. Amazed. It is not particularly magical or grand but it has got style. History has it that Langan has been around since 1977. Michael Caine, Peter Langan and Richard Shepherd were the three that brought Langan Brasserie to where it is now with a menu that, it is proudly mentioned, has changed little since. It was also the place to eat and to be seen there.

The dining room on the ground floor is just a massive 'L' shaped room. Private rooms are available for hire on the 1st floor.

The Langan's menu has a wide selection of dishes from starters (GBP 6.00 – GBP 14.00), main dishes (GBP 15.00) and desserts (GBP 7.00). Dish of the say starts at GBP 15.00, varied from Monday to Friday. It has all the brassserie / pub favourites. To name a few dishes on the menu: slow cooked meat, famuos fish and chips, hamburgers, nicoise salad, steaks, treacle pudding and ice-creams.

I do not think there is a formal dress code but the lunch diners are largely on business. I would avoid December month where massive gatherings, parties and celebration is going on. It was just too noisy to have any conversation at all. I am glad that there was no background music to compete. Comfortably warm but the toilets are like cold rooms.

Service was very good. The dining room at Langan's was full. Many diners were already gay and merry halfway through their main courses. Countless cups of Irish coffee were ordered after, not sure if they were trying to sober up just enough to make their journey home but still in keeping with the tipsy spirit. It must be, right? For the waiters, it is hard work trying to cope and keep sane with the crowd as such. Standing in full uniform like the French waiters, they were marvellous at the service.

Langan's Brasserie is a proper London brasserie serving just good honest, rustic pub style dishes. With one starter and one main, I am afraid that there is no room left for desserts. Saying no to desserts, I would like to reassure you that I am not just being good. Just a pot of peppermint tea (akin to having chinese tea with chicken rice) to ease the surfeited stomach.

It is not cheap dining at Langan's Brasserie but I am keen to dine again there soon.

The food:

1. smoked salmon GBP 9.00 - a good generous portion

2. juruselam artichoke soup GBP 6.50 – I have never had this soup before but it tasted like mushoom soup but more earthy and nutty. Good thickness and consistency. I enjoy it very much. I just voted that jurusalem artichoke will be my favourite soup this winter!

3. veal carpaccio GBP 12.00 – tender slices of veal, with a slight tangy tomato sauce, very good.

4. cod and chips GBP 17.50 – generous portion of cod served with proper tartar sauce. It is good to look at and more importantly, tasted good. I substituted the chips with mashed potatoes...was it a good idea? Buttery mashed, I'd say yes!

5. grilled sea bream with marinated peppers GBP 19.50 – well-cooked dish and I like the addition of capers to the marinated peppers.

6. slow roast shoulder of lamb with boulangere potatoes GBP 17.50 – this was Langan's dish of the day. The meat falls of the bone as you dig in. Generous plateful of food. Pardon me, but cutlery etiquette should be forgiven with a dish like as it only does justice to the chef and plate of food to use my hands.

Langan’s Brasserie opened in 1976, with long-time head chef Richard Shepherd from 1977. Peter Langan, a notorious alcoholic, died in 1988, and Richard Shepherd stepped down in 2012, but Langan's sails on, with Liam Smith-Laing, who formerly worked at Petrus and La Petit Maison, now behind the stoves. Most of the famous Langan art collection was sold at auction in late 2012, though some still remains to grace the walls of the restaurant (more can be seen at sister restaurant Odin’s). The menu is fairly traditional, with starters priced between £7 and £11.50, main courses £15 to £26, vegetable dishes at £3.50 and desserts £6 to £8.50. The dining room is vast, seating 190 diners at any one time, the wooden floor and tightly packed tables contributing to a quite high noise level.

The short, mostly French, wine list has just over 50 offerings, from £21 to £199 in price, with mark-ups about three times the retail price (higher markups for the cheaper wines, less for the costlier ones). Examples were Buiteverwachting Sauvignon Blanc 2011 at £28 for a wine you can find in the high street for £8, Fourchaume Chablis 2010 at £58 for a wine that retails at about £28, and Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque 2002 at £175 for a champagne that will set you back £109 in a shop.

A scallop shell contained sliced scallops with a crust of breadcrumbs and chorizo, with a salad of apple and cabbage. This worked well, the scallop hand-dived and having good sweetness, the chorizo flavour subtle, the texture contrast of the topping working well and the apple a sensible foil to the richness of the shellfish. My only criticism is that the dressing for the salad was a bit sharp, but this was a successful dish (14/20). This was somewhat better than lobster cocktail, which has a nice guacamole base, pleasant Marie rose sauce but lobster that was served in rather large chunks and was not perfectly tender. For me the dish could have had slightly bolder seasoning too (13/20).

For the main course, fish pie had a potato rather than pastry topping, a filling with haddock, salmon and other fish, reasonably seasoned (13/20). On the side, red cabbage was tender enough, but had too much sweetness and not enough vinegar (12/20) though French beans were carefully cooked (14/20). Chips were also fine, though ideally they could have been a bit crisper (14/20). Veal Holstein is a very retro dish named after Count Holstein, an eminence grise under Bismarck in the late 19th century; it is not a dish to tell your cardiologist about, it being a Weiner Schnitzel topped with an egg to add just a few more calories to a slab of deep-fried meat. It was very enjoyable, with the tenderised veal having reasonable flavour, the anchovies and capers suitably salty, the fried egg crowning the dish, a slice of lemon to give acidity; the flour and breadcrumb coating could have been a little crisper, but this was a good rendition of a classic dish (14/20).

Chocolate fondant had a hazelnut ice cream topping and was suitably rich, with a liquid filling; the top was perhaps a little too firm, but the warm liquid chocolate filling was enjoyable (14/20). Chocolate ice cream was good but mango sorbet had a slightly grainy texture (13/20). Coffee was pleasant but no more than that.

Service was very good, despite the crowded dining room: wine was topped up carefully, dishes arrived at a steady pace, and the staff were friendly. The bill came to £114 a head, but with a very good bottle of wine. With a moderate wine the bill would have come to around £80 a head. The cooking was between 13/20 and 14/20, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. Langan's is a little like The Ivy in that it offers an appealing menu, capable cooking and above average service: a winning combination.

The ambiance is great with the place buzzing even mid-week and the service very friendly makes it a relaxing evening. Great food and even the carafes of house white take some beating. Its a little expensive but with this location that must unfortunately be expected. Top place for us to celebrate a special occasion.

The steak I ordered was one of the best I had, simply insane. I spent most of my evening upstairs and the people were very friendly and professional. The cocktails were perfectly done and the live music added a great atmosphere.

The food was lovely, but a little bit pricy! We had a rabbit leg and steak- both were nice, especially the steak, it was so tender, and really worth the price! The club upstairs was amazing as well. Also, a big shoutout to the guy server upstairs; he was so helpful and friendly! :)

My experience at Langan's Brasserie was delightful. The beef tartare and the catch of the day were both quite good, but what truly stood out was the exceptional service and lively ambiance. The waitstaff was extraordinarily attentive and quick, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Langan's is a fantastic choice for those looking for great food and top-notch service in a vibrant setting.

Peaceful location just tucked away in an alleyway, with some gorgeous interiors and amazing lunch vibes! We came for lunch with work friends and I had the pea and asparagus risotto. My friend had the salmon, which they loved but wanted more sauce and vegetables as a side which would’ve been nice as an accompaniment on the mains menu. They also had a bar for socialising and we made some good friends there! High profile restaurant but would definitely recommend for work lunches.

Nice wholesome food, didn't seem very French, more British and continental from what I ate. Slow bar service and fantastic interior decor. Thank you

Went back after 23 years! Still a lovely place to eat. Food good (the menu is a bit smaller these days) and service outstanding. In terms of price there are better restaurants for the money but I do have a soft spot for this place.

We went here for friends' wedding anniversary and because there were a lot of us we had to choose from a much-reduced menu. Not a problem and I started with steak tartare, one of my favourites. Followed this with chicken Kyiv, which I haven't had for years. It was great! We had drinks in a private area before we ate and the service throughout the night was top notch. The brasserie was busy and bustling and had a great atmosphere. Splendid night, thoroughly enjoyed by all of us.

Good food (but pricey!) excellent service but the table was too small for 5 people. No larger table was available so we were rather cramped. 5 stars if the table had been more generous. Check prices first though!

The chicken liver parfait with onion jam and grilled sourdough was perfect. However the grilled sourdough was completely cold. Is served like this? Risotto was good. On the Sunday roast the meet was very, very good but the potatoes were terrible bad. It seems that to heat them up they roasted them again. And again... The desert was amazing. The service very good.
