Decided to try Tukdin after walking by many times and seeing it always busy (also I was having cravings for something spicy). We had the mee goreng mamak, pineapple curry, and egg sambal for mains to share, and the pisang goreng with ice cream for dessert. Cravings have been satisfied. We were always sceptical when it comes to Malaysian food in Western countries, but this place was did not disappoint.
Loved this place, we went with Malaysian friends they said the food was authentic and we loved it. The beef rendang was out if this world ...much recommended.
Small and well run place in bays water.
Had sambal prawns and Malaysian fish curry. Good service and very pocket friendly place . The bold flavours are much evident.
Full halal menu here.Really good Malaysian food. Service was great and the food was authentic and flavourful. We ordered chicken pastry for starters which was good. For mains we shared a sea bass curry and Nasi goreng both dishes were excellent. Restaurant is child friendly but it's tiny so it's difficult to keep your buggies with your. Staff are more than happy to store next door.
Will surely come back to try out beef rendang. items
We trust Zomato reviews and literally seat by the app, so when we came across Tukdin and its raving reviews we just had to eat there! And well let's just saw it was a fantastic decision. Small space, with Malaysian staff who are very warm and kind. We got the Malay chicken curry with steamed rice. The curry was outstanding and nothing I had eaten before could compare to it. Rich, smooth tangy gravy with generous pieces of chicken served with fragrant white rice. The menu boasts some really authentic dishes straight from the strait. You have to eat here if you're in the mood for some real Malaysian food.
I'm a picky nasi lemak eater and if the sambal isn't nice, it doesn't get my vote. Tukdin's great! Would like to get over the nasi lemak to try out the other stuff, but I'm pretty happy with just having their nasi lemak 😊
Update: on my latest London trip, I went to Tukdin almost every day to have the daging masak lemak cili api. So good!
Tuk Din is a popular Malaysian restaurant in Bayswater- I’ve only heard positive things about this place and this seemed like the perfect time to test it out. I’ve mentioned a few times over the course of my blog’s life about my Malaysian heritage and I'm always keen to find a good Malaysian restaurant!
What better way to start the day than to nibble on a couple of chicken curry puffs? We also ordered chicken satay for starters, served in pieces rather than on a skewer. It tasted like heaven. And the blackened caramelised bits? Bonkers good. The peanut sauce was spicy and there were even bits of ketupat (sticky rice), cucumber and red onion served alongside the satay to dip greedily into the peanut sauce. OR. You could just use your little serving spoon to scoop it up because *hand up* I did.
We stuck to the classics for mains and shared between us a plate of Nasi Lemak and a plate of Kuey Teow. Nasi Lemak translates as Coconut Rice, but it’s soooo much more than that. It’s traditionally a breakfast meal in Malaysia but really, it’s good for any meal. Served with the coconut rice is a sweet and spicy sambal sauce, a sprinkle of peanuts, a few slices of cucumber, a boiled egg and a piece of fried chicken.
Kuey Teow is fried flat rice noodles and this one had prawns and squid in it. I remember the best ones I had in KL always had cockles, mmmm. It was tasty- but finding good kuey teow with that subtle smoky charred flavour in London is like landing yourself with Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket. Near impossible! This one was pretty good though.
Two courses down, why not have dessert?! A simple weekend lunch was quickly turning into a happy glutt-fest. Dessert was pisang goreng (banana fritters) and a bowl of bubur hitam and ice cream. Bubur Hitam is basically black rice pudding- it’s sweet and coconutty! Too full to finish it all, the banana fritters were wrapped up to bring home for later.
It's a lovely place, really friendly and laid back- a return visit will definitely be on the cards.
Muito agradável!!! É muito simpáticos!!!
Nesta passagem por Londres mesmo junto ao hotel . Sabor perfeito e apresentação genial. Recomendo.
Great little, buzzy, restaurant. Very tasty authentic food, served with a smile. No alcohol
What a fantastic meal. I remember being in Malaysia three years ago and how much I missed the food when I got back to London. I never quite found anything that reminded me of the food there, until I visited Tukdin last night. The food was beautiful, quickly and politely served and so tasty. We couldn't even finish it, but we kept on talking throughout the meal about who good it was. Perfect for me, in that I had a friend visiting London for the first time in a few years and when that happens, you want them to have a great meal and a great time. I booked Tukdin based on the reviews and it delivered.
The only thing I would wish to change, was that the restaurant is quite brightly lit and doesn't quite give the kind of evening dimly lit atmosphere that you would like at an evening restaurant, but who cares, the food is so fantastic, I KNOW I will be going back many many times.
I am totally jealous that Bayswater has this gem all to itself!!!
Tasty Malay Food. On one Sunday afternoon in early Jun 2012, together with two friends, I orderred three plates of plain rice, seabass curry, sayur kangkung belacan and telor dadah for lunch. The food was marvelous and the aroma of curry made your saliva dripping from your mouth. The teh tarik that I orderred arrived steaming hot on the table. To complement with the teh tarik, I orderred a big plate of mee goreng mamak. Woe delicious, you should try it for yourself. The price we paid for those authentic delicious foods, ambience atmosphere and friendly services was cheap indeed.
The whole lunch affair was memorable since Tuk Din himself was present to tell us his experience in running a restaurant, a humble man indeed. Tuk Din comendable his wife for being the chef of the day.
Best Malaysian of Central London. Firstly I must say a massive thank you to Tukdin Restaurant from the beginning entrance to the restaurant & to the end leaving the restaurant.
The ambience, the entire presentation of Tukdin is clean & very uplifting - the staff greet every person entering with the you are WELCOME & APPRECIATE YOU COMING !
Quality of the food is very very good I've eaten there several times & tried different dishes which I have to say each time I have been impressed by the portions VERY generous & filling.
Nasai Goreng very tasty & the Malaysian tea very very nice to finish everything off.
I must say of Malaysian Restaurants within the local area - Tukdin why bother ?
well. . .
1 - It's authentic Malaysian food - made with no nonsense excellent presentation
2 - Superb staff always happy to assist & not just trying to rush you in & out of the place for the next customer
3 - Quality & presentation of food is awesomely sood & you feel like your at home however with that prestigious royal treatment
4 - Clean cutlery & restaurant throughout & good seating size
5 - price I've mentioned this last as really to be honest it's most affordable considering you are in a Central London location - they've made a really good package for you just keep being a regular (if I lived closer trust me I would be more frequent - at this moment I live 1 hour & 30 mins away & I've been several times)
out of 10 with 10 being the highest I would say 10 & I know that they will still keep on getting better !
All the best & Thank You all the team at Tukdin - I've been to all the local Malaysian Restaurants locally in Central London & North London & West London - This is 10 out of 10 !
God Bless
Sublime food!. Words are simply not enough to fully describe the taste of Tukdin's food. It's not surprising that I always go for the nasi goreng kpg nearly everytime i go to the restaurant -which is alot of times :D The taste I get from one spoon can take me back to my roots of the kampung. It only takes less than half an hour to empty my plate.
Moreover, the atmosphere inside is immaculate. I listen to some good old Malay 'beats' that can either soothe me or influence me to eat my food.
This is my review but I'm sure these words are shared by hundreds of others who leave the restaurant after an appetising meal.
Authentic delicious flavours of malaysia!! Can't get better than this! the spice & aroma blew me away! definitely 1 of d best asian restaurant we've ever been to!
Awesme. This is fresh and tasty food with delicate flavours from heaven! Unbelievably cheap local cafe with relaxed decor.
Tukdin was particularly special - the food was fantastic and great value, and I cannot wait to return.
Tukdin’s menu isn’t huge (like, er, no roti?) but what they do I dare say they do well. They only have three starters for example, the satay goreng (which was still as fabulous this time around), sup asam manis (prawn and squid sour soup) and karipap (chi
Very nice food. In the group we ordered a variety of dishes. The prawn dish was probably best one. Garlic chicken was also very nice. Recommended!
Small little cosy place with an Excellent flavoured "tea tahrik"...friendly staff. Ordered the satay chicken with peanut sauce, a little oily but very nice, nasi lemak but the highlight being meehon sup with beef - a must try!!!!
Value for money - with sufficiently large portion!
Small, popular family owned restaurant, serving authentic Indonesian food.
Really delicious, freshly made, served with a smile. Chilled ambience although usually full. Went there several times with friends & the food was consistently good. Tasty medium to spicy curries & lovely rice dishes. Serves halal meet as well.
Really enjoyed the weekend special (Nasi Ayam) and the kway teow goreng - would definitely come back for these. The portion sizes were really good. We also had the beef rendang. The sauce and flavours were delicious however, the meat was very tough and dry. It would have been 10/10 if it was much more tender.
The restaurant itself was very busy and seemed popular with Malaysians which is a great sign. Staff were all very friendly but service was a little slow due to how busy it was.
We would come back to try other dishes.
Excellent spot. Really enjoyed our meal. Roti Canai and beef rendang were so tasty. Satay Chicken and the rice side were delicious too. Friendly service in a cozy little restaurant. No booze if you’re looking for that but all I needed was some Coke Zero anyway.
I have tried many char kway teow in the uk and none of them even come close compare to tukdin, this is the second time i have tried this dish, and this is really similar to the taste that i have tried in asia. You can tried the wok hay with the kway teow, very well seasoned.
Laksa is also with good taste and I recommend it. They have put many things inside laksa, eg three large mussel, many shrimp, fish ball. The laksa soup can taste it is homemade but not buy premade base. A creamy coconut can be tasted as well.
Spring roll is average.
Great Malaysian delivery option. Laksa broth was great. Randang beef was tasty too and chicken starter also delicious. Gets a bit oily with the soup but really well packaged.
One of my favourite Malaysian restaurants in London. Cute family run restaurant with all the classics, and some interesting additions. Recommend the beef Rendang, chicken satay, mee goreng and the garlic fried chicken.
Outstanding restaurant. It had a great atmosphere, with a very homely feel - which was reflected in the food. We ordered beef rendang and the mee goreng which were both superb. Service was excellent and the restaurant is very Muslim friendly (all halal and no alcohol). Came here over 10yrs ago so it says something that it is still open and standards haven't slipped.
The dishes we ordered had good flavours. Laksa noodles with seafood, beef rendang, fried aubergine in chilli paste and coconut rice.
My favourite was the fried aubergine in chilli paste, they were fried perfectly. They weren't too spicy at all.
The beef rendang had good flavours but unfortunately the beef was too dry and the flavours weren't thoroughly seeped through the beef.
Interestingly they used egg noodles in their laksa noodles instead of rice/vermicelli noodles. It's a plus for me as I prefer egg noodles. However, I felt that an authentic laksa soup should have a thicker consistency and taste more flavoursome than their laksa.
Coconut rice was pretty standard, don't know what the hype was in the reviews.
The service was pretty fast and the waitress took time to explain some dishes to us. Happy with their service.
Overall, they serve good food but not exceptional enough to revisit.
Wowowow the spicy sup ekor buntut (spicy oxtail soup) is TO DIE FOR!!!! Coming for Singapore, i was reallllyyyy craving spice and this hit the spot and satisfied alll my cravings for spicy dishes!!! The meat was tender and the soup was so flavourful! Not to forget, there were loads of meat in the soup, making it very worthwhile!
We also had the nasi lemak which was delicious with the sambal that has ikin bilis (anchovies) already added in- that was so authentic to me :)
If anyone is coming here please I highly recommend for you to try the sup ekor!!! It’s really delicious and so spicy- so shiok!
Staff are all warm and always smiling as well - definitely a plus point! :)
Thank you Tukdin!
To me the best malaysian food in london. Portion are big .. the taste are very good. The best roti canai and keropok lekor. Also the nasi goreng kampung. So any malaysians citizen craving malaysia food can eat here
I've been meaning to try this place for a while and I'm happy I went.
I was a bit disappointed in the coconut rice that seems to be all the rage among reviews, mine came out watery and overcooked and I wasn't a fan. The roti isn't on par with roti king but still yummy. The dishes we ordered were very good, although I've forgotten the name. The server was very nice and recommended them to us.
The food was flavourful and good value for money. We will be back if in the area
I don’t even have words for how incredible the food was here. We got the mild lamb curry, coconut rice, and roti.
I wanted to order the whole menu after I took my last bite. Wow. I would highly recommend this place.
Definitely gives the vibes of a family run business. The ladies who were serving were very welcoming and helpful. Really quick service and the food was really good!

Tukdin is a great spot for halal Malaysian food in London. We tried a few dishes during our visit, and while some were better than others, overall we had a good experience.
The nasi goreng was a bit under-seasoned for our taste, but it had a nice kick of spice from the anchovies. The char kwe tiau was pretty good, although some parts were better seasoned and more moist than others.
The oxtail soup (sop buntut) was a standout dish - the meat was soft and tender, and it was a comforting and satisfying dish.
The chicken curry was good, although it was a bit too thick for our liking. And the mie goreng mamak was pretty good.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Tukdin and would recommend it to anyone looking for good halal Malaysian food in London. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and the service is friendly and attentive.
Excellent and authentic Malaysian food. All the dishes were prepared and cooked very well, bursting with flavour. We especially enjoyed the chicken satay, which was very flavourful and nicely charred. The roti was nice and flaky and the beef rendang was very tender. Would recommend for a great Malaysian feast!
Most Authentic Malaysian food in U.K but to be honest the price was a bit on the high side compared to Roti King … but still their Nasi Lemak is the best version I’ve tried so far (outside Singapore and Malaysia) …
Nice cafe offering authentic malaysian cuisine...fine atmosphere, good service, tasty meals, a bit pricey if compared to similar cafes in china town, but I guess the central location plays a role. I recommend and perhaps will come back. We ordered fish snacks as a starter for 9£, curry laksa, dal with paratha and Malaysian milky tea (which is just tea with sugar 😄). We paid 47£ for two including 10% service charge.
The food was amazing, the soft drinks are a little pricey, the venue is nice and immaculate, there service is brilliant and the team were catering to all my needs they were flexible with menu and really helpful allowing me to feed my child in a private room, the food was efficient in time being served. Had a lovely experience. Will recommend and go back again. Full halal menu and also a designated prayer room.
