Love everything about Hummingbird. I always drop by here to have their Earl Grey tea whenever I am in Kensington. The outlet has the perfect ambience for a cafe and well trained staff. They have the best tasting cakes; red velvet is my favourite. Seating arrangement is limited though. Highly recommended!
Their cupcakes are not the pretty or cute ones, no design at all but the taste is something to die for. The red sponge cake is soft not really very sweet. The cream cheese frosting is sweet, which makes a good combination of both. Do grab one if you're down in London. Unfortunately, the other cakes are pretty standard. Vanilla is just normal and the carrot cake tastes a bit weird, I have no idea why I thought I was eating ginger cake. It's probably just me, I did not enjoy the taste of the carrot cake.
If you are a sweet tooth I strongly recommend this bakery because everything looks great! I've tried several cupcakes and loved all, especially the red velvet. I also tried the whoopie but found it too dry. There are not many available seats, but the staff is very nice.
The best spot to go for a cupcake.
I love the red velvet cake and every time I go to London I can not leave without take one with me. Nice Staff
This is the place to go if you appreciate cupcakes. I had the Nutella one and it was delicious. The carrot cake is also very good. The staff is friendly but there aren't too many seats available and some of the tables were dirty.
If your sweet tooth is itching for a fix, head to the Hummingbird Bakery, the shop behind the delicious cupcakes known worldwide. The South Kensington spot is small, but as charming as you’d expect. My friends and I stopped by for a quick treat to enjoy as we explored the city. The staff was so knowledgeable about each flavor, and very helpful.
The Salted Caramel cupcake was spongey and chocolatey, with caramel frosting dotted with chunks of sea salt that add a nice crunch. One of my friends enjoyed a classic Vanilla cupcake, which was anything but plain. The airy cake had a great real vanilla flavor, and the buttercream was perfect- not overly sweet. Another friend chose a delectable Cookies & Cream, perfectly resembling the flavor of the crushed Oreos on top. The cupcake I enjoyed most of all was the famous Red Velvet, topped with a rich cream cheese frosting. It was so amazing that I had to get a box of six to satisfy my cravings!
Delicious and amazing choices. I even bought some to take away delicious cupcakes and never had a woopie pie quite like it the red velvet was my favourite.
A great place to take a little break, although I had to pass on this as I was only going for take out. A delicious and very tempting selection of cupcakes was on display and I wanted to try them all. As I was on a strict sugar counting diet, I had to settle for just one red velvet cupcake. If the rest of the baked goods are anything like that, I will definitely have to be back for more!
I was given a present, a very pretty box, and inside, two even prettier cupcakes. One was a divine chocolate cupcake and the other a heavenly red velvet. I saw every reason why this place had the reputation it had, being a fan of their black bottom cupcake, I now have added the former to my list of favourites too. Indeed it was bon apétit!
The salted caramel cupcake was amazing. No other words to describe it. Nice place and doesn't seem too busy. Cupcakes are reasonably priced for London. The Lemon Meringue wasn't the greatest, stick to the cupcakes!
Life doesn't get better than a slice of red velvet cake. Seriously. Beautiful dark chocolate cake with smooth and sweet cream cheese frosting, layered three times. Heaven on a plate.
Great bakery with top quality cakes. The red velvet is a highlight for me but I am always really impressed with the choice that's available!
Have to say I am not a massive cupcake fan and they are definitely not my first, second or third dessert/sweet treat choice, but Hummingbird's cupcakes are the exception.
I really like their chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream and vermicelli. It actually tastes of chocolate. The sponge is fairly moist and the buttercream is not overly sweet, lovely with a cup of earl grey tea.
If I'm in the area I always make sure I grab one or two!
Hummingbird is a really good bakery, but it is also really expensive. My dad took me there today and he said "this is going to be your first and last cupcake from hummingbird". I mean, £1.89 for a CUPCAKE???
When I first arrived in London, I was introduced to this sweet delight of a bakery by some sweet-tooth friends. With a friend's birthday coming up, what better excuse than to order a cake from there. The red velvet cake was suggested. I have never even he
Are you exhausted? I am. Last but not least, we hit Hummingbird in South Kensington (much much better than the Notting Hill branch), after another spot of shopping in Harrods where I managed to buy a pair of 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans that I don’t nee
Our group of friends are rather obsessed with Hummingbird bakery's red velvet cake. You will understand why. The Hummingbird is an American-style bakery filled with pretty little cupcakes and huge tall layer cakes. Our first encounter with the Hummingbird
When we arrive at Hummingbird, the queue is out the door. But we manage a table anyhow and Sarah lines up for some cupcakes. The place is manic. People are in and out and in and out. While we're waiting, someone uses the loo and accidentally pulls the eme
During a lunch break recently, I made my way to the relatively new branch of the Hummingbird Bakery, the American-style bakery that’s made quite an impression on Portobello Road. I’ve been to the original store once before and had a very impressively fudg
A bakery that never has a seat.
The Hummingbird bakery has become an institution in London and constantly lives up to it same every time I go in.
The cafe in South Kensington is always full and this simply explains the quality and taste of the baked gods. I always eat the red velvet cupcake with a nice latte. The black bottom is another favourite, it is a chocolate cupcake with a cheesecake centre. Everything about the cafe is great and the cakes are incredible as well.
If you have a sweet tooth and a craving for delicious cupcakes there is no where else one would go.
Cakes are tasty, a little on the expensive side for what they are. However for a treat it is worth paying a bit more.
It would be nice if they had more places to sit in the bakery so that you can actually sit and enjoy the cakes with a cup of tea. It is much more like a bakery to pop in and buy that a café to go and enjoy a chat and a cake.
Nevertheless, really tasty cupcakes perfect for your sweet tooth.
Probably among the best cupcakes you can get! This Hummingbird Bakery shop is in an ideal location - close proximity to South Kensington tube station and the nearby museums. There's indoor and outdoor seating as well to enable you to spend some quality time with your sugary delight.
They do special seasonal cupcakes, and for October the sticky toffee pudding cupcake is not one to miss! I also love their classic red velvet cake. The selection of cupcakes at the Hummingbird isn't as wide as you might find in some other bakeries, but at least the quality is almost always consistent. On the down side, the cakes seem to be getting a bit smaller while the fairly high prices remain the same.
One thing I don't really get is that they have a 'cupcakes without' range, which is supposed to be catered to those suffering from dietary/gluten allergies, yet they state that they bake them amongst the other cakes so they're not necessarily gluten-free... Cupcakes with an element of risk I guess!
Two words: EXQUISITE CAKE.
In a nutshell, that's what the Hummingbird bakery do, and they do it well. If you have a sweet tooth like me, this place will be your own personal heaven. The red velvet cakes that they are famous for are worth the hype, and I also recommend their Whoopie Pie.
The atmosphere is good, as is the service. However, the place does get busy quickly and it can be hard to nab a table on the weekend, so keep that in mind. It's just a stones throw away from South Kensington station so it is really easy to get to.
I thoroughly recommend this place and I can't wait until my next visit when I'll try another one of their tasty baked goods!
Love, love, LOVE. They are known worldwide for their Red Velvet Cupcakes, but I prefer the slice! Gigantic beast. You realise how good it is when you go away and try other ones that taste way too synthetic or plastic. However, their Carrot Cake is better - try it, I like to call this the hidden gem there and my perusal favourite is the Black Bottom cupcake! Chocolate cake with bits of cheesecake and chocolate chunks topped off with their famous cream cheese icing is what I would like to call Heaven on a Plate!
Hummingbird bakery has to be my favourite American style bakery in London.
While its prices are quite high with the average cup cake priced at around 3.50 pounds they truly are the best at what they do in London, offering a range of classics such as the red velvet cupcake, my personal favourite, as well as seasonal ranges which offer more experimental flavours.
My tips for someone who hasn't been is to expect a line, because Hummingbird is becoming increasingly popular and to try and avoid purchasing from the bakery any later than the early afternoon as Hummingbird do not use any chemical conservatives in their baked goods, which is fantastic, but also means that they have a tendency to go a bit stale later on in the day, as I once found out when I bought a whoopie pie just before there closing time.
I was never been a huge fan of American-inspired desserts - but Hummingbird Bakery has changed my mind. This branch, a moment's walk from South Kensington tube, is always buzzing. Happily, they churn out their delicious morsels all day long, so come the mid-afternoon munchies; you are likely to still nab your favourite flavour.
The banana and chocolate whoopee pie with peanut butter icing is sinful. And their execution of the red velvet cupcake is nothing short of heroic. Unless you have an entire mouthful of sweet-teeth, I would recommend sharing a cake between two - they are surprisingly filling and utterly decadent.
I've noticed there's a couple of Hummingbird Bakeries popping up in London recently. They specialise in cakes of all sorts with a heavy american influence. It's all done brilliantly.
Try out the New York or Brownie cheesecakes. Red Velvet whoppie pies also go down well. They do nicely a carrot cupcake served with a nut on top. It's all very heavy though and most of their products are coated in thick, creamy icing sugar.
The bakery in South Ken, situated just across the road from the station, has a few tables to sit down on and enjoy a cup of tea. As with all the Hummingbird shops, it's beautifully decorated in a fairyland-like red/rose atmosphere. I must admit, I feel pretty girly going in there but, for the sweet-tooth like me, it's worth the embarrassment of being spotted in there.
The Hummingbird Bakeries are an absolute must for London's pastry and cake aficionados, and their fame has spread quickly.
The South Kensington bakery on Old Brompron Road is smart and busy with a somewhat American feel. Gazing at the offerings in the counter is bound to wake up your taste buds, and after a couple of visits you'll have a favourite or two. My particular delight is the chocolate and raspberry cheesecake brownie.
Such is the buzz around the Hummingbird in South Ken you'll be very lucky to get a seat inside. Don't expect a bargain though!
I'm a big fan of cupcakes and this place is my personal favourite. The red velvet cupcake is to-die for!! I have to resist the temptation of walking in whenever I pass by! The carrot cake cupcake is absolutely delicious. They also have seasonal flavours like pumpkin cake which are really great. The chocolate cupcake is way too rich for me. The vanilla cupcake with frosting however is one which I always get. Hummingbird is one of the places in London you absolutely have to go to if you love sweets and cupcakes!!
Being a sweets addict, I love to try different patisserie items as and when I get a chance ;-). And this is one of the finest bakeries I've come across as far as cup cakes are concerned.
So this particular hummingbird bakery was on my way to college, and, how hard I try to resist, I happen to go inside once-twice a week.
The look of the bakery from the outside is very formal and elite. And as you enter, you can see myriad of cup cakes, everywhere, a pure visual delight !! They have a huge selection of cup cakes varying from different flavors to different designs and decorations. They have cup cakes in all colors - orange, pink, green, white, yellow.. Wow.. what a place, so heavenly!!
Their friendly and always smiling staff adds to your experience..
I have tasted most of their yummy cup cakes, the pies and the brownies !! They have classic cup cakes and cup cakes 'mini' as they call it, for people like me who wanna eat more than one at a time.. ;-)
Their chocolate flavored section of the cup cakes is simply out of this world!! And the red velvet ones are totally fab!!
The place never disappoints me and lifts up my mood every time I go there!!
"The Hummingbird Bakery truly deserves five stars! I recently visited and had the most delightful experience. Their hot chocolate and cakes are simply divine – the perfect blend of flavors and sweetness. What truly sets this place apart is their wonderful, calm staff. Their service is exceptional, making you feel like a cherished guest. The staff's warmth and attentiveness added to the overall enjoyable atmosphere. Every bite of the cake was a heavenly delight, and the hot chocolate was rich and indulgent. The cozy ambiance coupled with their delectable treats creates a perfect spot to unwind. I can't recommend this place enough! If you're looking for a delightful dessert experience with top-notch service, The Hummingbird Bakery is the place to be. I'll definitely be returning for more of their heavenly treats."
Great Vegan 18th Birthday cake for my son, we got the chocolate version and was tasty and moist.
The service at the South Ken branch was really good, the guy who served me was friendly. I also had to collect the cake early, due to a change in my circumstances, and they made it happen, so thank you!
One request to all Hummingbird branches....PLEASE MORE VEGAN OPTIONS!!
Cupcakes are really good, almost at Lola's level. Cake slices are huge, and very tasty. However, service is horrible. They offer only disposable forks, even if you are eating in, and staff rudely refuses to cut their enormous slices in smaller pieces. A shame!
First time in London i found mouth watering pastries !! 🤤
Specially I was looking for red velvet . Price is little bit high but if i compare with the size its worthy. And rainbow cake is on instagrammable mode.hihi.
1 slice is enough for 2 person if you want to share with ur partner . 😬😉
Extremely happy. Very impressed with the service. I arrived and bought a rainbow cake for a birthday party. They wrote my aunts name on top and packaged the cake every well for transport. While they were doing that I enjoyed a coffee and a slice
The rainbow cake had the perfect balance of sponge, frosting etc. Very moist and not so sweet. Will return.
One of my favourite bakeries in town. I usually visit the Nottinghill branch but this is my first in this specific branch. Happy with the service. A bit pricy tho compared to a lot of other bakeries.
Came to this lovely little bakery for heir amazing cakes (anything with the cream cheese frosting is to die for). The variety is good, and they offer gluten free options - i'm nnot sure if there is a fully vegan option though. I was very happy with the service as well. The staff happily obliged to my preferences of which cupcakes went in which boxes. Oh,and they also sell last minute candles for £2. Quick and easy payment was made and i left with a smile on my face.
There are some seats in the shop but not many as it is quite cosy inside.
Very teasty cakes and good service.
Price is also good for what you get!
Awesome place, very cozy jazz background music and their own coffee which is the best I have had in a while. Would come again if I wasn't a tourist.
The greatest cupcakes I’ve ever had - especially red velvet and black bottom! Perfection.
The BEST RED VELVET EVER. I have tried so many red velvet and honestly nothing beats Hummingbird’s one.
