La Cage Imaginaire is a small, delightfully quaint, traditional French-Mediterranean restaurant which can be found tucked away in the picturesque cobbled street of Flask Walk in Hampstead. Its interior is intimate, romantic, white-tablecloth elegant – the perfect place for a meal with that someone special or even a quiet business lunch. There’s a really good set menu for lunch (served between 11:30 and 17:00): 2 courses for £15.95 and 3 courses for £19.95 – very reasonable considering the quality.

A deservedly popular restaurant at the heart of Hampstead. A short consistently tasty menu, particularly good on fish. Good two-course price (£17.95) on our last visit (October 2009). Wine extra, of course. Warm and inviting atmosphere.

I want to start by saying that I love how reasonable the prices were. We had a 3 course meal each for under £25 per person + bread with buttern on the house. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy, definitely had the right atmosphere for what it is. The food was good, to be completely honest I wasn’t over the moon about it but I’m happy to say I’ve tried the infamous onion soup. The service was great. It’s definitely worth stopping by if you’re having a day around Hampstead

Thank you to all at La Cage Imaginaire. You provided three of us with big 0 birthdays (we made 200 years between us!) with a delightful oasis to celebrate with old and new friends. You made us an absolutely beautiful birthday cake (see photo) and you were all so helpful and cheerful, it made for a very special occasion. Thank you 💛🥂💛

What a wonderful restaurant! I would recommend this to everyone. The food was spectacular, really traditional and beautifully made - always came fresh out of the kitchen piping hot! The service was great and the ambiance was lovely, I felt like I was on holiday! It was also exceptional value for what it was, we will be back. Thank you :)

Delightful little restaurant on a pretty Hampstead street. Onion soup was flavourful, but not too heavy to have as a starter. Melon and Parma ham was fresh. Lamb and confit duck were both flavourful, coming in decent portions that were neither too small to be left hungry or too large to be uncomfortable. Tart tatin was fresh and tasted lovely - the inclusion of prunes added an extra tartness that really complimented the dish, and balanced the generous scoop of ice cream. Service was friendly but professional, and one got the sense that staff cared about the business, as well as about providing an enjoyable and relaxing guest experience. The wine list was relatively limited with respect to offerings by the glass, but not to the detriment of the experience. And with a half bottle of champagne for a little over £20, it would be difficult to complain. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable lunch for a remarkably decent price, quite unusual for London - particularly Hampstead.

This used to be my favourite place in hampstead. But recently the food has dropped the quality. The menu is changed and more tables have made the place all cramped. Sad. Post review : 5 years later went back again after pandemic. The extra decor is gone, cluttered furniture is gone. The menu is changed and good . The frog leg could have been better but still ok. The waitresses very friendly but very busy and not enough for the crowd. They forgot our wine and the bill. But can’t complain the environment is nice enough to wait.

Good French food at reasonable price. Restaurant was cozy and comfortable. We had the foie gras and rabbit legs, it was delicious to French standards. Service was also good.

Adjacent to The Flask pub La Cage Imaginaire has been a local favourite for decades. The charming owners have been providing a really good menu at consistently good value in its cosy atmosphere. A neighbourhood favourite and a part of Hampstead's history and character.

I always feel this is a hidden delight in Hampstead which more people should know about.I visit here whenever the opportunity arises and am constantly surprised that it is not always full of customers when it a pleasant restaurant and the food is both excellent value and a delight to eat.High prices in London hospitality now often surprise me - here I just am surprised at its good value. When exploring Hampstead make sure you go along Flask Walk.
