Found YMing after hearing good reviews about it. The restaurant is cosy and the staff very friendly. We had a a set menu for £25 so we could taste different dishes. We prebooked as Soho gets busy especially Saturday nights. YMing is on the edge of Chinatown so it was left people traffic on the street which was a welcome change.
Would recommend.

A Chinese restaurant that i would consider descent and clean. Quiet place and a place to eat good food. A veggie soup that is so delicious. To be followed by dumpling that is not heavy (as it is in most places). And then by a veggie dish (good for veggie people), then a sizzling hot shrimp so good and another sliced meat which is so normal, not bid deal. And you can enjoy a glass of wine of your choice.

Wanted to try something other than Royal China. The food was cooked well and tasty, although some work on presentation would be great. The selection of food was good though.

Loved it - One of the oldest Chinese restaurants just off soho/Chinatown in the slightly more desirable Romily/Greek Street area of London. Food here was second to none with a very modern twist on some traditional recipes. Service excellent, definitely would eat here again!

Love this place!. A great selection of authentic tasting regional Chinese dishes. If you're looking for greasy noodles and crispy duck, this isn't the place for you.

Overall the food was tasty and very filling - none of us had room for dessert. The service was very friendly and attentive. Although prices were a little higher than similar cuisine establishments in the area, the quality of the food, setting and service made it worth the increase.

YMing is a strange old place, despite having bilingual menus and being within shouting distance of Chinatown, it attracts few Chinese diners. For some that's a bad sign as received wisdom has it that the authenticity and quality

Yming is a bit different to the other Chinese restaurants in Soho. Set back from Chinatown on the corner of Greek and Romilly streets it is without the usual decorations and accoutrements associated with the trade. The decor is uncomplicated and modern, and the ambiance is a bit like an upmarket family restaurant, where the owner Christine and her front of house man William know everyone and welcome them back as old friends. It is sedate, without the noise and hustle of nearby Gerrard Street, and you can sit down and relax with a glass of wine here in the center of Soho without feeling rushed to finish. In fact, unlike many Chinese restaurants, the wine list is as important as the food at Yming. There are many dishes on the menu worth recommending: The Empress beef, Mr Edward's Pork, the Dongan Chicken, the Gansu Duck or the Tibetan Garlic Lamb. Main courses are reasonably priced for the West End, about £9. And if you want something special, book ahead a day and ask them to prepare a Beggar's Chicken - a whole chicken baked in dough and delivered to your table as an aromatic loaf of bread that you tear apart and then shred the meat inside before eating. Wonderful!

NB 2022 update. This lovely restaurant has now permanently closed. Our absolute favourite Chinese restaurant in London. I dream of their crispy chilli cauliflower starter as it's so amazing. Their pickled veg appetisers are also lovely. We recently discovered their crispy banana fritters, coated in a sugary crust & now crave both dishes when we're not in London. Friendly staff who are keen to explain menu options & give recommendations.

We came here especially for the Pekin duck and it was excellent. It was also served in a very authentic way, with soup and leftover stir-fry coming after the calssic pancakes. The service was very polite and attentive, offering good recommendations on what and when to order extra. We haven't had much chance to try the other dishes on the menu but we'll likely be back for that.

Watching my son’s video back in two years ago when we visited London and kept coming back to Y Ming during our 9-day stay. Very hospitable staff, delicious dishes, top cleanliness, and nice interior design all made it our memorable, kids-friendly and enjoyable experience.

Fabulous meal - excellent produce and very tasty. The waitress even helped demonstrate how to use the chopsticks.

I ate at Y Ming a few months ago. I had booked for 4, but all my friend's arrived late, with the last one turning up an hour later. The staff was very welcoming and looked after me. The food was excellent and the service is very good. A friend of mine has food intolerances and the staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. I'm writing this review as I consider coming back for my birthday with a larger group.

Absolutely fantastic food, spring rolls crispy, tasty and good amount of filling. Dumplings came with a very good dipping sauce. Haven't seen mint rice on a Chinese menu before and glad we tried it. The only thing I would change is to add a dipping sauce to the Dragon broccoli. Good wine too. Decor downstairs different. Staff very friendly. Seriously worth a visit.

This place was recommended to me by Chinese friends and I can see why. The hosts are very welcoming and the food is next level. Standout dishes were spicy cauliflower and baked whole fish. The wine selection was lovely, rare for authentic well-priced restaurant in central London.

A lovely, conveniently situated Chinese Restaurant in Greek Street just off Shaftsbury Avenue. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Service is good but most of those serving don't appear to be able to speak much English. They are not very talkative but are nevertheless efficient. I've been there a number of times now and will certainly go there again.

We went to this restaurant last night to celebrate our wedding due to covid we had a one night stay in London. I was a little sceptical of going to China Town as the last few times I've been to other restaurants I found the food and service to be somewhat of a let down. However I have to say not only is this restaurant by far the best in soho but I would go as far to say this is the best restaurant I have ever been to and I have been to many! We were greeted by the owners and sat at a quiet table so we could enjoy the romantic moment of our honeymoon. A glass of fiz complementary for our congratulations and the beautiful cool blue colour of the restaurant with beautiful music playing just at the right volume. Then came the food well to say we were wowed was an understatement absoultey beautiful and made even better by the recommendations of staff. We are, we laughed and we loved thank you so so much for making our evening a very special one we will be back every year for our anniversary and probably in-between. The best dining experience by far!

Love this restaurant. The food is so good you will almost certainly eat too much and still feed like you've missed out on some wonderful food - either because you didn't order them or were too full to eat them. I really can't emphasize enough how good every dish is... This restaurant is light years better than any other Chinese I have been to (including a handful in Beijing.)

I've been to this restaurant more times than I can count in my seven years in London - it is fantastic! My absolute favourite restaurant that I recommend to everyone! Just outside the main bit of Chinatown, Y Ming has great food, drinks, atmosphere and service. There's a wide variety of dishes that cover meat, fish and vegetarian. Highly recommend you try the field mushrooms and the aubergine or tofu chips as starters... For mains, go for whatever you fancy, it's all great! But I love the Gansu duck and the garlic chicken.

My favourite Soho Chinese restaurant presided over by the delightful Christine aided by a loyal team, many of them with her for years. Spotlessly clean. Some outstanding specials including the signature sea bass named after, er, me! I love Chinese food and can tell the good from the bad. I have been a loyal customer for 30 years and have never been disappointed.

Best value for money in the area, especially the lunch menu. Authentic chinese cuisine with many uncommon dishes. Ask to not be seated downstairs if you can, it looks a bit old. Ground floor looks lovely.

Superb service (almost creepily good) and really delicious food! Maybe a tinnnny bit pricey but not out of the ordinary for central London. Recommend the spicy aubergine! The mock duck wasn't half bad either.
