We had a fantastic celebratory dinner at the Lighthouse and couldn't have faulted it. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, and felt really buzzy on a packed Saturday night. Despite this, the service was excellent and very attentive throughout our meal. The wine we chose, the Cote du Rhone, was delicious and at perfect temperature with beautiful warm bread that came as a complimentary extra (rarer and rarer nowadays in restaurants). To start, the beetroot and goat's curd salad was one of the best I've had, especially with the addition of caramalised walnuts and a sweet/sour dressing that was perfectly seasoned. Our mains were equally good, including a green curry with huge slabs of sticky roasted onion squash, and lamb rump with a delicious aubergine puree and falafel. The final course, a chocolate surprise dessert was outstanding and perfectly portioned - we can't wait to go back!
Emma and I were looking for somewhere to take my sister for a birthday dinner. Although I’ve lived in the Wimbledon area for almost 2 decades, I’ve not made it to Light House, a local restaurant with a good reputation. So, it was a windy November weekday evening that we made our way to Light House, located not far off the main drag of Wimbledon Village.
I took my gran for lunch, lunch set menu fantastic value for money. Food was amazing couldn't find a fault anywhere. Service was 110% I run a pub and always looking at every detail. Well done guys I'll be back.
Great food. The Light House has to be my favourite restauant in Wimbledon. it's not cheap but the food is great!
Off the beaten track of the village. Lets get the bad stuff out the way - service was in my opinion weak - filled my glass every single time, lots of rummaging and noise as we were seated. Let's be clear - that's it. On the positives. Food - excellent. Had tagliatelle - could have done with more lemon I think. Lamb - exceptional. Exquisitely presented. Looking at a ton. Ps lamb was medium - expected it blushing. Still will be back to try fish
A Great Local. Been half a dozen times, does fantastic deals for set lunches, a La Carte in the evening gets more expressive.
Staff always very helpful. Changing seasonal menu.
Worth trying out
Great night out good food, service with a smile and interesting modern European food with a twist. Wine was good too and not overpriced.
I confidently claim this is the best restaurant in Wimbledon village, and that's no mean feat.
The Light House is a beautiful restaurant which serves modern, Italian-influenced food. The menu has changed over the years and each one surpasses the last. The staff are extremely friendly, well informed of the menu and can recommend great wine to go with whatever you order - which isn't actually too difficult considering they've only got good wine! It's recently had a interior uplift and looks better than ever.
Last time I went I had Foie Gras for starters and roast duck as main, served with a superb Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. I finished with Pannacotta. It's the best meal I've had in months! I can also suggest trying the dark chocolate cheesecake. It's so nice you'll struggle not to lick your plate.
The trip down to Wimbledon is well worth it. You can even go for lunch and then stroll around the common or shop in the village. The recipe for a perfect day.
Had an absolutely wonderful lunch. Ever been here before and am so glad we now have. The food was excellent, service was relaxed, efficient and friendly. Great value for money, highly recommended and we’ll definitely be back again very soon.
Absolutely delicious food. Great cuts of meat, and all dishes very well presented. Good service and excellent selection of wine.
The welcome and service was 5 star, the prices are reasonable, the food was fairly good with a number of vegetarian options.
I had breakfast on an early Saturday morning. The place had a cute Christmas tree set up in a large but warm seating area. It was a quiet morning, so I even enjoyed some workplace banter among the servers.
The tea was served hot, not just warm - I appreciate that.
The sour dough toast was great and the avocado on it was fresh. The poaching of the eggs left a little room for improvement, the yolk was less runny than ideal. Personally for me the lemon juice drizzled on top of the eggs and avocado was a bit of a mismatch. The mild chilli and the zingy pepper were great garnishes.
I've lived in Wimbledon for a long time, and always felt a bit ambivalent about the lighthouse. I hadn't been for at least a few years, maybe since before the pandemic but went today, prompted by my partner, for our anniversary.
And do you know what? It was fabulous. I think my biggest issue had always been that the menu was "safe". But today, it was all big flavours, interesting ingredients and great service.
In short, everything you want out of a local restaurant. Definitely recommended.
I'd not been very excited by the Light Cafe getting a make-over. Now I can't wait to try it.
A big party of us ate here 1/6/23,
I had the ham hock for my starter, it was really good although too salty. Main course I had sea bass again it was really good, lovely crispy skin. Only complaint was there were way too many long green veg not sure what they were. Desert was cheese cake and a caramel sauce absolutely no complaints it was so good! Service was really good and the meal was good value for money.
We've been eating at the Light House irregularly for almost 20 years but hadn't visited since lockdown until last Friday night. Tempted in by the offer of a £35 three-course menu, which proved to be extremely good value. Four of us ate well from a menu that offered a choice of four dishes per course, with very generous portions and top-notch cooking. I had expected pretty much a set menu with minimal choice, so this was a v pleasing outcome.
Staff and service were excellent. Ambiance feels less 'high-end' than it used to, but for a well-priced, non-chain restaurant, I would certainly recommend Light House for a mid-range evening out.
We went there for my daughter’s birthday. The restaurant arranged the birthday menu, very impressed. The red curry mussels were super delicious. We had a great lunch there.
Really enjoyed my first dining experience here.
Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options in a smart but laid back environment.
Attentive but unobtrusive service with the restaurant filling up quickly from 8pm.
Lovely neighborhood restaurant. The food and service was excellent - the squash beet feta avocado salad was particularly good. We’ll be back - it is the perfect local spot for a date night.
lovely restaurant, food and staff. style is simple European inspired dishes. only negative is presentation and flare of dishes don't quite match the price (but the taste does!)
