Amazing place in London. I love the food. can’t wait to come back here again. Congratulations to the staff.
Très bon fish and chips.
Visited this place so many times and it’s always a great experience. Best place in town for a fish and chips. Always fresh and great taste. Suggestion haddock fish. Can be ordered big or small. Waiters are very friendly are professional at work. Great ambiance. This place is always full. Highly recommended.
Visited Golden Union Fish Bar on 21/05/2018, during our trip to Europe. This place is famous for a variety of Fish and Chips dishes. We ordered Cod & Chips. It turned out to be extremely delicious. This place is conveniently located very close to Oxford Street and is a must visit for fish lovers. Strongly recommended. You should visit this place whenever you are in London!
This is THE definitive Fish & Chips place in Soho on Poland Street just off Oxford Street - Golden Union does nothing else. Delicious Cod, Halibut or Haddock and just right fries are served quickly in a bright and clean modern diner atmosphere. The staff are fast and friendly and the prices reasonable. It is fast moving as well so that one does not have to wait long for a table. Takeout is also available.

The goto place for Fish and Chips when in London!
So last weekend I was in London for a wee bit - and had to get fish and chips, right.
And Golden Union lived it up to its reputation.
Had the perfect Haddock & Chips (they were freshly made thick-cut) with homemade secret recipe tartare sauce was just perfect for my hunger pangs.
Cute little fish and chip shop with an old school diner feel. Very reasonably priced for being just off oxford street. Generous portion sizes with the option of dine in or take away
My friend and I looked this place up to have some good fish and chips and I have to say we were not disappointed. The flavor is excellent! Staff are very friendly and helpful and the place is quite nice to hangout at. Recommended!
Over the past days I had eaten a lot of street food and was in the mood for some traditional British Fare, something comforting and something filling. Fish and Chips was to be the order of the day, but where to go? As an out of towner I had no real ideas where to go so I let the internet decide and googled London Fish and Chips. The nearest place that was recommended the most was Golden Union.
Excellent fish & chips place near Oxford Street. You see their small entrance as you enter Poland Street. I have tried cod and chips and it had a wonderful taste. Their menu of fish is rich, they have Fullers and Sambrook's Pumphouse as pale ale.
Went there on vacation.
Everybody told me that fish & chips ITA not good its greasy... Well I just loved it and I loved the place!! Awsome!!

As my friend Joana De Sales said on her review, we followed the Time Out suggestion and we were with high expectations about the fish and chips. Our lunch was awesome. The staff was really amazing and helped us a lot choosing our plates. The best thing about this restaurant is that we can choose not only fish and chips but other good delicacies, so it's possible to go there with people that don't like fish and chips. Prices are good and fair. I really want to go there again.
Really friendly staff with a good choice of fish, yes there is more than fried cod! The fish itself was tasty but as for the oil... Quite average. Still good price quality. Recommended if you are in the area
Listen..it's not fancy, it's not haute cuisine, it's not pretending to be something it's not. This is straight-up fish and chips. Prompt service, good portions, affordable. There's a couple varieties of fish and shrimp that you can configure in a variety of ways. The fish was crispy and fresh and the chips were good.
We followed the suggestion from TimeOut for a fish & ships meal and I'm happy with it! The Golden Fish Union Bar serves a good portion of it with a great flavour. The small one was actually enough to feel full and the staff was really nice to us.
This place makes a nice cheap alternative to the other food places in Central London if you are looking for something quick to eat. It's the type of place you'd find in the putter zones so it's pretty down to earth for a central location. Generally when I go to a chippy the portions are too big but at this place you can get a small cod and half chips for £4.50 which is a good size for a quick eat. Pretty consistent and tasty too!
Great fish and chips. Friendly staff, clean all around. Chips were fresh and tasty.
The absolute best fish + chips I have ever tasted. Great value for money, super clean restaurant. Friendly helpful staff.
Greetings Londoners! I'm sure you'll be delighted to know there are even more restaurants that will not give your wallet a serious blow this summer. There are three places I've visited since Part I of the Cheap Eats series and once again, they all happen to be in Soho (the haven for cheap eats)! Hummus Bros I've walked past this place so many times! The idea of it seemed a bit bizarre to me at first- just a plate of hummus with pita bread. I never thought such a simple and heavenly combinatiom could actually be converted into a meal but that's just typical London, full of all sorts of surprises. The atmosphere wasn't exactly inspiring because of the extremely basic furniture and interior design. Luckily, there were stools with a bar table at the front so I could dig into my meal as a proud solo diner! The menu was beautifully concise so that made my decision to choose a meal much easier. I opted for the hummus with chicken sautéed in a tomato sauce (large) which came with two warm sl

I had my fair share of fish and chips in my life. Living in the cockney side of London, we have plenty of kebabs and chippy’s. The seaside is only a train ride away; getting fresh fish is no problem at all. golden union fish and chips There was a late night, the cravings came, and lucky enough I was in the Oxford Street area. All my brain was thinking of was FISH & CHIPS! Mentally I knew the location after passing Golden Union several times. In between the Oxford Street and Soho. At Poland Street, Golden Union looks like your typical local chip shop. With the usual salt and vinegar pots and a box of wooden forks, placed on top of the metal counter tops.
Golden Union is a pretty decent chippie in Soho, where decent chippies are a rare commodity these days. The restaurant itself is modern, clean, slick with lot’s of friendly waitresses and during the week caters to the needy office crowd in the seated area at the back. It was Friday, it was lunchtime, I was hungry and had a need for some good ol’ fish n chips. My intentions were to head to Marylebone and the Golden Hind, but hunger got the better of me and I knew that I wouldn’t make it, so I headed to the Golden Union and a plate Friday heaven would be mine. The menu is pretty good with lots of our favourites and a few more sustainable fish on there as well. I choose Coley, as the Good Fish Guide tell me it is a more sustainable option. They do serve you a good portion, the chips are hand cut, as I had some really odd shapes and sizes, but although cooked internally, they needed some more time to crisp up a lot on the outside. The coley was firm but flaky, and it has a lovely taste, qu
After a hard evening shopping on Oxford Street, I needed somewhere to eat and walking down Poland Street, I spotted the Chippy. A chippy in the middle of London? I was intrigued and headed straight in. The menu is simple. This is a chip shop and not some
Good fish and chips in the heart of London. Surprising location for such a traditional style joint. Get there early to avoid queuing for a table.

With the usual salt and vinegar pots and a box of wooden forks, placed on top of the metal counter tops. I sat inside for my meal. Having my favourite plaice fish, I was shocked by the size of the plate.
The fish reached corner-to-corner right to the edges of the plate. Piles of chips scattered. I took my first bite of the fish, the meat flaked off, and the batter was crispy light. The chips were the best, hand picked Grade A potatoes. Not a drip of grease to be seen. The chip was fluffy with a slight crisp.
It was PERFECTION, thanks Golden Union your place has absolutely the best fish & chips I ever had in my life. Meal was already £15, great tasting food and excellent service.
Although Oxford street and the surrounding areas are full of restaurants and cafes, there aren't many mainstream, affordable restaurants that you can have a traditional good quality fish and chips.
This is where I takes friends who are from outside the UK and are in London as a tourist. I take them to Oxford St to show them the heart of London and then take them to this place so they can experience the famous British fish and chips.
The food is of a high quality and the portions are HUGE. If your not starving, I recommend sharing one portion between two people. The price is decent when you consider the size of the dishes. My personal favourite is the Cod. Also don't forget to ask for their very well-made tartar sauce.
By the way all fishes come with a massive portion of chips, even if your the biggest chips fan, don't get extra chips!
As surprising as it may sound but I am always on the look out for 'good' fish and chips in London, there is no dearth of restaurants serving it, but there are few who make their mark, and you want to visit them again, just to eat their fish and chips. Golden Union is one of them.
We ordered two large fish and chips (of course) Fish was fresh, crisp and very tasty. Even the chips were amazing, my wife thinks it's the best she has ever had. Their mushy peas and tartar sauce is also brilliant. Very yummy, very fresh.
Their retro ambiance just adds more to the overall experience. The staff is a friendly bunch of people.
Highly recommended - whether you are a tourist or a local, do visit them once to try one of the best fish and chips you will ever find in London.
10/10 great experience at golden union.
Friendly staff and bustling with people! Could be little crowded but food is great. Took a little longer than I expected since it was at peak dinner time. Portion is huge so if you can’t finish it, ask for take away box.
I loved visiting here on vacation! It's the best fish and chips I have ever had! There's a free jukebox to play songs you like and its wonderfully cozy especially on a rainy day! 10/10 will come back next time.
We simply love this place!
We visit London 2-3 times a year and whatever happens, we always end up here. And - just to be completely honest - between these visits, we also dream about coming back for the best fish and chips we ever had. Definitely give it a try and order the large tartar to your meal! 🤤
Excellent place in London but it is definitely London prices compared to your local fish and chips place so beware! Around lunchtime there is quite a wait for the food as I think the kitchen is small. The food was good and decent portions, too.
This place’s atmosphere was amazing, it had such a cool 80’s diner vibe. There was a free digital jukebox and it was fun being able to play your own songs. And the food was great, especially the milkshake. The milkshake was light and fluffy/floaty while not lacking any taste and it had a homemade feel. Our waitress was Bianka, she was very sweet and helped us with the menu. Overall great experience.
I've never had fish and chips before. It was amazing 🤩. I was unsure about adding vinegar and salt 🧂 on the fries. It was a delicious combo. The staff is so friendly!
Just amazing place and staff that will help you to choose when trying first time fish and chips;) in my view best cod fish and chips, dont forget to add homemade tartare sauce, homemade coleslaw or curry sauce, u wont regret it👌 we enjoyed as take away, and recommend to you 😍 Portions take away are quite big, try first one portion it will be enough for two :) Pay cash or card and enjoy ;)
I usually eat f&c on seaside like Whitby or Scarborough ( so top quality) but this one in London really surprised me positively!
I will come back
I've been coming back to London for a long time, of course I have to eat a fish and chips.
The place is nice. The banana milkshake was very good. The tartar sauce was very tasty. The fish was good. I found the breading not crispy enough and the staff suggested that next time I could ask for more crispy. That was nice of her. The employees are very kind.
We tried both the haddock and Pollock and both were delicious. It was quite a large serving but the batter was so light and the fish was so juicy that it was so easy to eat the entire platter.
We went in here to have dinner and we enjoyed it a lot!
We had Cod & chips, with Homemade coleslaw and Homemade tartare sauce, all the dishes were great, the place is quite nice and the service was really nice and quick :)
while visiting london, i needed to try fish n chips at least once. we decided to go to golden union due to the high ratings. i was pleasantly surprised that the inside of the restaurant was quite nice and modern with plenty of seating. service was friendly and efficient.
note: there a 12.5% service charge included in the bill. also, there is a 10 pound minimum per person, so if you split a dish with someone, you have to order a side or drink to meet the requirement. lastly, tartar sauce costs extra which seems a little unnecessary.
// cod and chips //
my friend and i shared the cod and chips with tartar sauce. the employee mentioned cod and haddock are the most popular -- haddock has a stronger "fish" taste and is a bit larger/chunkier in size.
the photos don't do it justice but the portion is quite big. the batter on the cod felt light which i appreciated. the cod itself did not really have much flavor, and i felt like in general the dish lacked salt or seasoning/flavor. but, for fish and chips it felt better quality since it wasn't too bready or greasy. the chips and tartar sauce were standard and the lemon wedge helped add flavor.
we also got the elderflower soda which tasted like elderflower and apple juice.
The chips and cod were lovely. The fish was really soft and tasted very fresh. The curry sauce was £2.50 which is rather expensive for what you get. Nonetheless it tasted nice with the chips. Service was quick, but by the time I left the queue was out the door, which is usually a good sign. They also have a seating area at the rear of the property. Prices are competitive for the area. Definitely worth popping down during lunch breaks. Staff are always pleasant.

I had a fantastic experience at Golden Union Restaurant. Their fish and chips are simply amazing. The crispy batter and tender fish were a delight. Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere made the visit even better. I highly recommend this place for a delightful meal!
We were greeted by, "Hi, do you have allergies?", which is an important question to ask before anyone consumes the fish products. The restaurant was neat and clean. And it always fills in with customers back-to-back.
Fish and chips were delicious. We tried the cod fish. The consistency is perfect, the inside is juicy and delicious. Potatoes are good. The waiters are attentive and courteous. Definitely try it.
Very delicious fish and chips! Had to stop here for that. The fish wasn't greasy, it was nicely battered and fried. Lovely experience and a huge filet!
Very friendly staff with prompt service. A standard cod and chips for takeaway gets you a huge piece of Battered fish and a large amount of chips that are very tasty. Highly recommended going here if you're hungry. Hope to try out the restaurant side next time.
Great traditional cod fish ans chips. It was made to order. Crunchy and succulent. and the staff at the counter were friendly and explained all my obvious questions.
