BaoziInn has been making the rounds on social media recently - its brightly coloured, perfectly formed dumplings; its attractive dining room, showered in natural light - featuring sleek oak wood tables, lanterns, and shutters - are exquisite to the eye. But I'm naturally sceptical of Instagram food trends - so I had to try it out myself.
Did it live up to the hype? YES.
We were situated in an intimate, cosy dining room - an attractive homage to the Mao-era canteens of yesteryear's Northern China. The music was pleasant and the atmosphere relaxed.
The food was excellent - all-day Cantonese Dim Sum with Sichuan and Hunan influences, and the bold, robust Northern Chinese flavours were felt throughout all of the steamed goodness. I am a huge Dim Sum fan, and I can comfortably say this is some of the best I've had in London.
A highlight for me was the assorted Xiao Long Bao with minced pork - a selection of buns filled with experimental flavours such as jackfruit, bloody mary (!) and Sichuan hot and sour sauce. The broth within - at this point, more of a sauce - was an incredible, sharp burst of flavour once slurped up and the pork was perfectly cooked.
The prawn and chive dumplings were enclosed in a spinach juice pastry and were once more perfectly formed and cooked - bursting with sharp flavours. The jiaozi dumplings with pork filling nestled in an intense, spicy, umami-packed XO sauce. The wontons were fabulous - perfectly balancing the flavours of mixed vegetables, tender pork filling, spring onions, and potent spices. Don't miss the special fried rice in that heavenly XO sauce - some of the best fried rice I've tried: absolutely erupting in Cantonese flavours.
From the moment I took my first bite, I regretted not ordering more - the menu is diverse and extensive - but I'll certainly be back when I'm in need of a dim sum fix.

Me and my girlfriend went here for her birthday this evening. We had the most fantastic time. The food was absolutely exquisite, a large variation and a fun way of ticking off what food you want on a sheet! Our server was Joseph who was brilliant, extremely friendly and catered to our every need. He really represented the place well and is clearly an asset to their team. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Chinese food!
We ordered some starters, buns, and dumplings. The food came out quickly, and the servers were really helpful in explaining the order to eat everything and making sure the food was stacked to stay warm. The cucumber in chili oil was delicious, and the meat buns and dumplings were a hit! The vegetable dumplings and buns were decent but not amazing I would say. Overall, a great experience with very helpful and friendly staff, will definitely come back.
Been here twice - delicious dumplings, starters and sides, cold draft Tiger beer, and efficient, super friendly service.
I am v surprise by the negative reviews. Yes this isn't somewhere for a long 2-3 hour meal - it's dumplings and beer!! But it's delicious and they have a lovely team. Will be back.
I recently visited this restaurant with a fine companion and was blown away by how delicious the food was. I tried a variety of dishes, including the dumplings, rice, pork belly and dim sum.The flavours were bold and well-balanced, and the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. The atmosphere of the restaurant was a bit of a downer though as staff would stand near the doorway and watch you eat. The lighting was harsh and unflattering. I must say it was cozy. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food, location and service and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for decent Chinese cuisine
Very pleasant experience for some dim sum here. It took a while for us to order given how long the menu is but everything was rather delicious so we were thrilled. Highly recommend the shredded beef to share, it was our best dish. Dim sum in chili oil were excellent also.
Atmosphere is fun as you have pictures of Mao everywhere and it feels like you are thrown back 80 years into Communist China.
Paid 90£ for four although we didn’t order too much.
Despite being a very busy Saturday night, we managed to get a table. The food was really good. We opted for : vegetable buns (which were not very flavourful), delicious crispy tofu and very good vegetable spring rolls. Overall the food was really good just note that it might not all arrive at the same time. I can recommend.
Baozilnn was pretty decent! Our hostess who was serving us, Nemo, was fantastic and such a cutie. As a Malaysian, Chinese food in London always dissapoints me, but I must say, the Sui Mai and soupy dumplings here were not bad at all. We were here celebrating and birthday, so we had a nice little nook. It a was a little bit loud in there, and people kept walking towards us cause they though the toilet was through where we were sitting 😂
So apart from that, we had a GREAT time. Would recommend.
This is my second time coming here and I was again impressed. I’m not really a fan of wantons/dumplings but I got some and was pleasantly surprised. The soup chicken dumplings were quite decent so I’ll have to give them that.
The fried rice tasted amazing and the squid was seasoned to perfection.
The steak skewers were TRES BIEN too!!
Decent dim sum, not as good as Royal China in my opinion because whilst there are many kinds of siu mai, char siu buns, har gow, and wonton, all of which were great, they don't have the breadth of other types of delicious dishes. I appreciate being able to make a reservation though, and the room and service were lovely.
We just called in for food and managed to get a table… the way to order is a bit odd and it’s like having your homework checked when you hand your paper in but the food is fantastic, we had dumplings, skewers and wantons and the flavours were fantastic… good value too for the location
This is my fav dumpling place in Chinatown.
I’ve been here multiple times and it has never failed me.
They have quite a few seating space but do book and go cos they are usually very busy. Having said that once they accommodated us on a busy Thursday evening without a booking.
Ambiance is good.
Service is quick.
Food is to die for😬
Love love loveeee their chilly oil Dumplings. The dumplings are so moist and yumm and the chilly oil is delish (it makes my mouth water even just while writing this).
We love their Dan Dan noodles and spring rolls too, but I keep visiting them for the chilly-oil dumplings.
They have a good drinks menu too.
What I love the most about this place that they have a full menu dedicated to vegetarians which is the best feeling being a vegetarian, which means I can enjoy all their lovely dishes.
Special shout-out to Nemo (I’m glad to have find her 🙃), she’s the warmest, friendliest, sweetest and bestest soul at Baozilnn.
