This is such a lovely special old pub in a fantastic setting by the river. It has it all: views, brilliant food, lovely friendly staff with super efficient service and very clean and well organised without fussing coivid wise.
Cant reccomend highly enough!

A couple of weeks ago an email from The Handbook landed in my inbox that stopped me in my tracks - a pub within half an hour's walk of our house was about to reopen having been closed for a major refurb, which included adding a kitchen to the venue. I'd never heard of The Barge in Chiswick before, but was intrigued, as we live a little bit in no man's land where pubs are concerned (in between Chiswick and Acton there's a lack of good pubs) so was excited to find out about The Barge. I popped down last Tuesday for a drink, and met the manager, who invited me back, with the boy, for some food. Even on a rainy Tuesday post-bank holiday it was busy in there, so we decided to go down on Friday night and try out the new menu.Luckily by Friday the rain had stopped so we had a lovely walk through Chiswick's house and tree-lined roads until we got to the river. We were early so sat outside, right on the towpath, enjoying a drink and some people (and dog) watching.
The roast looked good... But was given the chicken breast so it was bit dry. The gravy however was tasty. The Yorkshire pudding was good. The service was good and it's very friendly place for weekend relaxing lunch.
Cheese Fondue, Cheese Fondue, you know you want to! Great starter for two to share. Good pub food, by the river. Lovely in the sunshine, lots of seating in and outside, friendly staff.
Me and my husband love the riverside pubs lined here and make it a point to be here as often as we can. City Barge has loads of seating on the riverside as well as at the main road. The service is a little slow but staff is very courteous. I have eaten quite a few Sunday Roasts in London but by far, City Barge has the best Yorkshire puddings! I want to go there again just to have the best fluffy and light-as-air Yorkshire puddings!
Came here for a Sunday Roast and it was well worth the trip. Recommend getting a reservation or booking in advance if you can. Extremely quick service, too!! Once we ordered our food, it came out in just a few minutes.
Very impressed. The food was fantastic.
I highly recommend the Venison Bolognese fritters. This is not a pub that happens to do food, this is a very good restaurant housed in a pub (but still with a great pub atmosphere in the bar area). Thanks.
Great river side pub with superb food and wonderful staff. Special mention to Ian, Vipin, Ewelina and Nina.
The City Barge is a great little spot for an afternoon drink as well as a nice evening out, they have a nice front garden perfect when the tide comes in.
Another bonus is it's dog friendly and they really like Stanley!
It's a 5 paw review from Stanley too!!
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The atmosphere of the place was relaxed and calm, creating a perfect setting for a casual outing.
One of the highlights of my visit was the fish and chips. The taste was delicious, with the fish being fresh and the batter nicely crispy. However, I must mention that I found the dish to be a bit too greasy for my liking. While the flavors were enjoyable, the excessive greasiness took away from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
On the bright side, the staff at the City Barge were kind and helpful throughout my visit.
We had dinner and the food was really delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. Our waiter was knowledgeable. The prices were reasonable. I couldn’t fault the food or service. It is local to us and I will certainly be back. I would highly recommend.
We had friends visiting from the Midlands and took them to our favourite pub on the Strand on the Green end of the Thames! Great menu and lovely staff. Never had a bad meal or experience. Beautiful interiors and a few premium tables next to the river for outdoor weather. On this occasion had a Sunday roast but the fish and chips aren't to be missed! Best in W4!
Roast dinners Sunday afternoon...Yum! Good surrounds, nice vibe, good beer selection. Worth a visit!
Lovely pub right on the riverbank in Chiswick. The tables outside overlooking the river are only available on FCFS basis, but they have a few nice river view tables inside as well. The management was nice enough to give us one of these tables even though our reservation was for the tables facing the carpark. Coming to food, the lamb shoulder was lovely. Nice mint chutney, and some of the best potatoes I have tasted. The Yorkshire pudding could do with some improvement. Pork belly and Sea Bream Fillet were nice as well, as was the Tempura Softshell crab.
Great place with an awesome food. Tried Sunday Roast for the first time and loved it.
Kind staff, quickly arranged seating on busy Sunday
Lovely riverside pub. Lots of room inside but doesn't lose its old fashioned charm. Service was great. Sunday roast was fabulous. Will certainly return.
Really great bar. Quite specious with a good atmosphere. Very good food at quite reasonable prices.
The crab lasagne and venison pasta were excellent.
Good range of beers and spirits too.
Next visit on Christmas Eve and food menu was not as good and yet same prices, quite expensive. Winter Colada drink quite unimpressive.
Lovely pub, right by the Thames. There is also a back garden/terrace so plenty of options to enjoy the sun.
The food was delicious and very affordable, and the staff was friendly
Food and service and weather all amazing 🤩
Perhaps my favorite pub on the Strand. Food is very very good, baked Camembert was delicious. Service is lovely. Some less common beer on tap. A lot of seating inside and outside.
Lovely riverside pub that serves an excellent range of draft beers. There is plenty of seating indoors and a row of tables outside by the river. Great views towards Chiswick Bridge and Kew Bridge. The staff are friendly and helpful, there is a good food menu (we only came for drinks) and there is even parking up the front.
Cozy place along the water in the laid back neighbourhood of Chiswick. Decoration is nice, and the place has a feel of ancient UK, a place where time stood still.
The Sunday roast is copious and pretty good, although pretty simple also.
Price seems to be a bit on the higher side.
4 stars because it's good but not exceptional. Would definitely not mind coming back there!
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast with a stunning view. Amazing food and great service by Angela, Jo and Ewelina. Highly recommend!
