Reviews Shampers

Tucked away just behind Regent Street, Shampers has a very cosy, familiar atmosphere. Despite the fact that we could not spot any non-business lunches, it felt more homely than corporate. The slightly asymmetrical pictures on the wall, the fresh flowers on the tables and in the bathroom, the blackboard with the specials on it… all contribute to a very comfortable atmosphere.

Besides the standard menu, we received an insert with the specials, which contained even more dishes than the other! We were spoilt for choice, but I selected the chilli and ginger squid to start, followed by the classic combo of steak frites.

Nice wine bar but very slow service.. 26 Oct 11: I found Shampers while walking around in the area before going to Masala Zone for dinner. I'm not a beer drinker (you will find a pub on most corners in London) so I was happy to have found Shampers.

It was happy hour and there were lots of people inside (as well as outside) enjoying their wine after their work day. I was able to grab a stool at the bar and chatted with a few near me.

I ordered a glass of red and then waited and waited and waited. The young woman that took my order disappeared while two others were busy serving other people. It took me a while to get the attention of one of the bartenders. I explained I had not received my wine and she asked who took my order. "I haven't seen her since she took my order, which was about 20 minutes ago." So she poured my wine and later asked me if I wanted another. I was thankful she kept an eye on my glass.

When I asked for the bill and received it, it showed just one glass. I told her the bill was incorrect, that I had two. She said because I didn't get my first glass in a timely manner she took it off the bill. Nice!

I'm rating this as average simply because of the poor service of the first bartender. Why take my order and then not follow through? The second one that took care of me was great. Thanks!

What a gem!. We had intended on dining in a completely different restaurant close by, but it was full and not available for over an hour. We wandered by this place and my other half kinda stopped like she was "drawn" to it. I thought, if that's not a sign nothing is!

We were greeted by a very polite waitress who said it would be a 15 minute wait for a seat, maybe a little more. Due to a cracking display of wine behind the counter I felt this might be worth an even longer wait so 15 minutes was nothing. So we propped ourselves by the bar.

First up, super wine. Went for a Spanish wine and it was delicious. Couldn't get enough of it. Let me tell you, I went into Shampers slightly tipsy, if I'm honest, I left a little drunk!

Then the food, we both had fish, and it was cracking. I had crab claws and my other half had prawns to start with. We both were extremely happy with our choices. Next up, I had some special that was a kind of fish fin or something. Cannot recall what it was again (too much wine at this stage probably!). My other half had hake. Both were cooked to perfection and absolutely fantastic.

Wasn't able for dessert... but I wish I was! Definitely returning here for more of this goodness.

Don't let the name put you off.... Just happened to be walking past this little restaurant, trying to find a place to eat after work. Noticed it was full of people and had a real buzz so we thought we'd give it a go.

It was actually pretty good.

Nice wines by the glass, I had the lamb fillet and it was beautifully cooked, simple and delicious. Didn't have dessert but they also looked tasty at other tables. Would certainly go again - unpretentious little local restaurant with a great energy.

As a weary business traveller, there could not be a better place in London. The wine list is superb, food delectable, and the owners and diners/winers the friendliest in London. Call ahead, b/c getting a table is not a sure thing.

Once again Shampers did not disappoint. Simon and his team have created something truly amazing here - an oasis in the heart of Soho - a true find and an unrushed chilled relaxed atmosphere with one of the best wine lists you will ever see. Food as usual was amazing - staff fantastic and as usual a selection of interesting characters frequenting - a must visit.

Great wine and food . A perfect venue in the heart of London just off the busy Regent Street, Piccadilly. Although plenty of seating they do get very busy. They consistently provide a choice of delicious dishes from the menu and offer a great selection of wines. Enjoy a glass or bottle of wine with friends over lunch or dinner.

Really liked this place great service great food and the wine list is nice and long. Any issues choosing the right wine we just asked and our waitress helped pick out a great wine for us. Bread and butter pudding was amazing and the overall decor and experience was super chilled and enjoyable. Probably my favourite restaurant in the area and just walked in and got a table which is something you can't say about the restaurants in the court next door.

My second visit here in as many weeks and each time the food, wine and staff have been brilliant. I have passed by so many times over the years and it has always been busy and now I know why! I shall be returning again soon without doubt.

I've been visiting Shampers since 1987 and have never had a bad meal. Absolutely reliable on food and the best wine-list in London. One of the warmest welcomes you'll find

Very sad news. I arrived yesterday to enjoy good fayre and ambience but sadly it’s closed down, what a bl@@dy shame that one of the last independent wine bars that differentiated itself from the herd is no more. I feel for the team who gave so much to keep it going but were thwarted by this whole Covid situation. Thank you for for good times.

Very nice little wine bar and restaurant close to Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street. Staff were accommodating and friendly. We only had drinks so can't comment on the food. The wine we had was very nice.

Very busy eatery in Soho, had a wonderful lunch here recently, and the service was very personal. I would recommend booking if you really want to eat here, as it could be a long wait for a table unless you arrive very early! I believe the restaurant is in the hands of long-term owners, and it shows in the way customers are looked after. Thoroughly recommended, either for a quick bite, or a full three courser

I always love my visits to Shampers and I’ll be there again this Saturday for my boy’s birthday. It’s 15 years now. So happy they survived the lockdown shutdown. For me it’s oysters, rare calves liver or a hearty cold meats board . The bread and butter pudding and pot au chocolat are always fabulous. Roth is doing a splendid job in Simon’s considerable wake. We drink either Macon Villages or latterly the lovely St Veran . Bring on Saturday !

This is one of Sohos little hidden diamonds. It has an amazing selection of great wines and the lamb cutlets are to die for. My girlfriend had the cod which I don't usually eat but it was tender and accompanied beautifully. I totally recommend this place as the staff and the owner are wonderful.

Definitely book in advance to come here. I've walked past Shampers so many times, but once you go inside the walls are full of a range of different wines and it has a very cosy feel I had the calamari in sweet chilli which was delicious, the sauce made it. The mains are a decent portion and dessert, which I had sticky toffee pudding was good. Staff we good, the place is quite small and there are tables downstairs
