This place is a well sophisticated restaurant. We went for lunch and ordered 3 course meal which was really sumptuously delicious . Out of all, I liked the Golden fried prawn (must try dish). Overall nice ambience/food and great service.

Ambience. Service. Great food. Being a Malayalee I was extremely happy to see Thalassery Beef and Kerala Prawn Biryani on their menu.

The lamb simply melts in your mouth. The Tiramisu Gulab Jamun is a must try.

For the price you pay, it's an average restaurant

They experiment with food which is a great news.

Buy portions are small and starter portions are even smaller

Rice quality is good, nothing exceptional about curries.

BBQ is good and some of the starter are really nice, eg paneer Tikka

Too much zafraan in some of the dishes.

I have been to chutney Mary more than 2 times but I always forget to write a review about it. Well, that's over because as you can see, this is my review of chutney Mary. It's anything but a mediocre Indian restaurant. They offer their dishes with a twist that you may like or may not. For starters, we ordered samosas, fried calamari and chicken wings. I'm going to be honest with you, the samosas are to die for. You can "feel" all the flavours having a party inside your mouth. The chicken wings were"wow" because they come with a sweet sauce I don't recall but is so good. This odd combination is in fact surprisingly satisfying. For mains. We always order butter chicken which was so "buttery" and tasty. The subze we ordered however wasn't up to our expectations and they do not offer chicken biryani. I'm gonna give chutney Mary a score between 3.5 and 4 because the time it takes for the food to arrive is so long.

We visited on a Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant was busy, but the tables were arranged so that we didn't feel hemmed in. Our waitress was lovely, polite and attentive without being obtrusive. But the star of the show was undoubtedly the food which was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed everything we had, notably the crab cake and the butter chicken. We also thoroughly enjoyed the cheese and chilli naan, which sounded unusual but was fantastic. This is a really fabulous restaurant and thoroughly deserves its reputation as one of the best Indian restaurants in London.

I had been looking forward to dining here for many months and finally had the opportunity to on my birthday. We could only get a table at 7pm due to how busy it is but that was ok. We started with a platter of crab cakes, somasas and lamb chops. We also had two very tasty cocktails, the rose and lychee martini and the raspberry cosmo. Mains were the prawn biriyani and the chicken curry. Two desserts, one amazing platter (see photo) and some birthday truffles. Great buzzy atmosphere, delightful food and perfect service. We will be back!

I visited this restaurant twice over the past month for business lunches, and both times had a superb experience. Polished staff, great service - attentive and swift, and food to die for! The ambience is elegant without being stuffy, and there is a buzzy vibe at lunch. Will definitely be back.

I love Indian food, but Chutney Mary did not manage to make my dishes less spicy on request (twice). That is strange as any other Indian restaurants I have been too normally offer spicy and medium heat dishes - in Chutney Many just everything seems to be spicy. As great as their food is, I could not enjoy it as all my mouth and throat were burning. Great service and atmosphere though - really enjoyable for people who love burning spicy food. For me not worth the money unfortunately.

While sightseeing on St. James’s Street on a recent Saturday afternoon, we happened upon this establishment and, having read some great reviews, decided to stop in for a beverage and some lunch. We certainly made the right decision.

We were warmly greeted and promptly seated in the tastefully decorated dining room. There were many patrons enjoying the Saturday brunch and live jazz. We opted to have a light lunch and to accompany our glasses of Picpoul Pinet, we shared a few appetizers, Tokri Chaat, Crispy Boneless Chicken Wings, Chargrilled Jaipur Lamb and Garlic Naan. We then enjoyed the Gulab Jamun with Vanilla Ice-Cream for dessert. All was delicious and service was superb.

It was an expensive “light lunch", but utterly delightful and well worth it.

One of the best Indian restaurants I have come across in London. I try to base my reviews of restaurants based on five factors  - (i) service; (ii) ambiance; (more important ones) (iii) quality of food; (iv) innovation in  recipes/presentation of food; and (v) value for money.

Service and ambiance were great - it is a spacious place and looks quite luxurious from inside with very good decors. In terms of food, we ordered pretty much all the vegetarian dishes for starters and main course. The starters were great and I would certainly recommend the tikkas and the paneer tikka. The paneer tikka had a slight twist with fenugreek leaves and possibly, some honey.

For the main course, we ordered tandoori roti with mutter paneer kofta, mewari (yellow) daal and some okra. The  mutter paneer kofta was mindblowing and definitely would recommend this dish. Overall, great food quality.

In terms of the fourth factor - innovation in recipe/presentation, while there was already a slight twist in terms of taste for most dishes, we had to wait for the dessert for amazing presentation. Eight exquisite desserts were served in small servings over a bowl filled with ice. A must try.

This restaurant is located in Mayfair, so you would expect to be expensive. We paid about £55 per person for the above food order plus one drink per person. While it is quite expensive, I think it is worth going here once (i.e. worth the value).

How could have Chutney Mary been better? Probably not many areas to improve and I would consider it to be comparable to Benaras (London's highly rated michelin-star restaurant). But if I had to pick an area of improvement, it would probably be offering a wider variety of vegetarian dishes (e.g. bhaingan bhartha i.e. a dish made with eggplant).

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Chutney Mary

The team managed to meet and exceed those expectations: once again the food was excellent - we enjoyed it all, but what topped everything off, was the immaculate service which struck exactly the right balance: helpful and pleasant without being intrusive. We were really pleased with our choice and plan to be back soon.

Please continue what you're doing! You've crafted a great dining experience.

My favourite place it's expensive but worth being here. Paneer tikka and tokri chaat must have food. Well in menu it's only Palak paneer but chef is too sweet to make paneer tikka sabzi which is must have. Cocktails is subjective but I love them here. If you are papad fan do try papadam basket it's in bar menu. Must visit for Indian food

Delicious and authentic Indian dishes with a modern twist. Not the best Indian I have been to But still very enjoyable and good quality food and the restaurant is lovely and very busy. Only down fall I guess was nothing wowed me with regards to food and drink. Staff were pushy with when we would order our mains and deserts and constantly untrusting. I understand they want to make sure we are having a good time but at least 8 times they would just come in over our Conversation with no regard which left a bitter taste. Food good restaurant nice service rubbish.

Been to Chutney Mary on multiple occasions when they were located in Chelsea. Their lunch buffet used to be outstanding with impeccable service and excellent food. The ambiance there used to be another draw: with natural light and plants surrounding an entire section of the restaurant. It's a place that I cannot recommend enough.

I never made it to Chutney Mary when it resided in Chelsea (what is now Masala Grill) but I’d always heard lovely things about their indulgent Indian classics. I was excited then to hear it was moving to St James’s, an area far more accessible to the masses. It’s a plush affair from the minute the impeccably dressed doorman lets you into the lavish bar area. There’s something rather wonderful about seeing a doorman in a dashing turban in the middle of St James’s too. In the large dining room, no expense has been spared, yet it doesn’t feel intimidating or stifling.

A large group of us were at a meeting a few doors away from this place, and we were booked here for lunch.

We entered here around 1.30PM, and sat in the bar for a couple of drinks before lunch. Smartly dressed barmen fixed our drinks and kept replenishing them as required.

Two things I noted which depreciated the fine reputation of this place, was that the bartender was short changing us with the drinks, and not pouring a full measure. Since we were mostly drinking Scotch at 9-12 pounds a drink, this seemed out of character for a place like this.

They also ran out of Johnny Walker Black Label, and we switched over to Jamesons. A shame really, since the location, ambiance, and interiors were classy and superb, with service that did not match. The other thing was that a group of us stepped out for a quick smoke when lunch was announced, and when we returned our drinks which we had barely touched, and left on a table had been cleared. Bad show!

We moved on to lunch, and we were served excellent starters, consisting of Prawns, Chicken, and Mutton kababs, and assorted vegetarian kababs and starters. They were superbly prepared and perfectly seasoned, with the meats cooked to a level of tenderness beyond description.

The mains arrived, and consisted of an assortment of naans and rotis, and Pulau rice, with chicken, mutton and vegetarian gravies which were also excellently prepared, and authentic enough to pass muster if served at any Fine Dining restaurant in India.

Since there were 18 of us we were seated in 3 separate tables, and there was some sort of fracas at the next table, where a dal was served which the occupants of that table did not like. They hastily removed the dal, and peace was restored.

It was an excellent meal, and the best Indian meal I have had in London. Expensive at 70 Pounds per head! but worth every penny!

The shortcomings at the bar is the sole reason the rating of my experience at this place is lower than it should be. With such premium prices, these deficiencies in service are unacceptable!

A decent Indian cuisine fine dine place in the heart of London. Perfect for those special occasions that require well rounded dining experience including good “close to desi” food, “great” ambience and “decent” service. A little towards the dearer side, with an average vegetarian meal for 2 costing around £90-£100. Maybe I am an exception, but the service could be a bit better. I had to search for the right person to discuss my reservation. Didn’t see anyone coming promptly to assist me as I entered the premises.

Chutney Mary is a fine dine Indian restaurant. One has to make reservation beforehand. Walk-ins are perhaps not entertained. We went there for dinner and we were greeted and welcomed by their friendly staff, helped with our coats and escorted to the table. The serving staff was friendly, and recommended some dishes as we wanted to try house special meals. Starters: 5/5 We tried Tokri chaat and Chili glazed Paneer Tikka. Tokri Chaat is just outstanding. Main course: 3.5/5 We ordered Mawa Mewa Kofta Curry and Bengal Daal. Kofta was hard, dryish and daal wasn’t cooked well. Daal also had prominent taste of turmeric (which only happens, in my experience, when turmeric is not added to tadka. Can’t expect chefs of such highly regarded restaurants to not know/care about this) Roti/naan were good. Portion sizes are small, each adult needs at least one main dish. Desserts: We tried Payasam Brûlée and it was the most delicious dish on their menu, made to perfection. Can’t recommend enough. And finally, a really warm gesture when they served a decorated plate with a small cheese cake and a candle to celebrate my partner’s birthday.

This place is beautiful. It's in a fantastic location in the heart of one of London's most fashionable areas. It's dimensions are deceptive and theirs acres of space for a quiet business lunch or a big dinner party. The food is as you can imagine beautifully flavoured and presented. The only down side is the price. Enjoy it if you get the opportunity.

Nice little place the food is below average honestly for all the hype. The waiter we had was pretty friendly and nice but the hostess was a bit aggressive might be his personality but for that type of job he needs to work on his friendliness. The food is way over priced for the quality and taste not authentic at all. I gave it 4 stars because it was actually fine dinning and the staff did their job and the place was clean. The beg samosa and the shrimp cocktail were really nice and the chicken tandori The biryani was tastless

I really enjoyed it. The weekend brunch menu from 12-2:30 includes 2 courses for £39 or 3 courses for £45 which is amazing value for money. We were full from 2 courses. It says there is a dress code online and rules for dining, but they were very welcoming and relaxed at lunch. The service was phenomenal. The waiters are super friendly and knowledgeable. They made our visit. The food was great. The poppadom tray has unique chutneys and pickles which were surprising moreish. The tandoori artichoke hearts and sarabi chicken were moist and flavoursome. The non-vegetarian silver crescent is a meat thali which was delightful and comes with a naan. The kid gosht biriyani was filling.

The food was very good and flavourful - we shared the scallops, prawn curry, lamb biryani and saag with paneer and garlic naan. The service was a slight let down given the calibre of restaurant as we had to flag down staff a number of times for their attention. It was my birthday so I did appreciate the small cake with "happy birthday" written on it.

We had the weekend brunch - 3 courses for £45 per person felt quite reasonable for fine dining in central London. The food was great and authentic, very close to what you’d expect in a great restaurant in india. We ordered the prawn curry and the Amritsari kulche which were both authentic and delicious. Dessert was great too - innovative chai brûlée! Will return here to ceebrate special occasions.

Amazing food in a very chic and classy restaurant. Beautiful decor and atmosphere paired with excellent service from all the staff. Out waiter was Spectacular! A very nice place, ambience was very good. Manoj, our server, was well versed in the menu, was able to give recommendations according to our requirements and ensured we were well looked after even though it was a busy night. The food was well flavoured and had an amazing taste. We had the tokri chat, which had a good kick to it. The goan crab cakes were very nice too with a good mixture of spices. The main course dishes were also very well flavoured and balanced. The dessert, gajjar halwa soufflé with pistachio ice cream, was something different and added an amazing end to a good night, alongside a wonderful anniversary surprise dessert!

It was my husband’s 30th birthday dinner, the staff gave us a lovely table in a semi private alcove and the service was wonderful! Food was delicious and had amazing flavour and presentation. The highlight was for sure the lobster and we loved their biryani! Staff were really friendly and warm - I lost part of an earring just before leaving and a staff member actually searched on the floor and found it for me - that’s how BEYOND their service goes. It was lovely getting a happy birthday desert with a candle for my husband too, was a sweet surprise. Our favourite dinner in London for sure, ambience and food and service all top notch. This was our first time there but definitely not the last, we already love their other restaurant Veeraswamy so now we look forward to also trying Amaya.

This is probably one of the more beautiful Indian restaurants you’ll ever find as it is thoughtfully decorated and polished on the inside. This restaurant touts itself as a fusion restaurant so don’t expect the strong Indian flavors that you might find a more traditional restaurant. For example, we order the Kerala fish curry and it tasted more like a Thai curry than a spicy Kerala fish curry. And there wasn’t really one particular dish that stood out but all of them fit the mark for being a fusion type preparation. The highlight of the evening was the gulab jamun with ice cream. The drink menu is another highlight as they have some very unique cocktail preparations. One item that was concerning was that the service seemed a bit informal as I experienced numerous servers talking to each other joking around, and that was a bit offputting for such a beautiful somewhat formal restaurant. This is not a restaurant I would highly recommend as a top recommendation, but I would recommend it if you’re wanting a unique Indian restaurant experience in London.

Overall a very pleasant meal. Service veered from smiling and friendly to peremptory - depending which server you got. My prawn starter was lovely, as was my mixed grill. Papads were very bland, so would advise giving them a miss. Reasonable prices for location and quality of food.
