We came to Franzina Trattoria for a birthday dinner and had an amazing time. We were a table of 15 who the waitress worked so hard to make sure we had a great time. I had the vegan arancini, chickpea croquettes, pesto pasta, and pistachio ice cream. The food is some of the best Italian food I’ve had in London! I’ve not had pistachio ice cream since going vegan and it was amazing! Note some of the vegan options aren’t vegan by default so you have to ask for it to be made vegan. Would love to come again and bring more vegan friends if there were more vegan options, but nevertheless a great place for meat eaters and veges/vegans alike.
This was my first time having authentic Sicilian food, and OMG was it delicious. Like many spots in Brixton it is very low-key, it is also classy on the interior and there’s a small patio outback. You must try the pasta when you come as it is made in house and cooked to absolute perfection. There is an extensive drink list and tastic wines that have been imported. It is obvious that the owner Has put a lot of thought into this establishment.
I started with the Insalata Rapipititto. It was a little different from what I’m used to, but the flavor profiles were quite nice. I had the ragu for a main course and it was out of this world. Very simple dish, but made with so much love. The pasta that I mentioned earlier was cooked to perfection. The dish was very well seasoned. I am so used to Italian restaurants with fairly bland pasta dishes but this is not that. As I was finishing my meal, the owner Peter came over and we had a friendly chat. Mind you, he was on his feet the entire evening. I had finished my evening with the cannoli, and Peter gifted me a sample of his home, made lemon cello, which was amazing. I almost forgot about the tiramisu, which was incredible. Probably the top three I have ever had.
Food was exceptional and everything tasted really good, simple decor and vibrant atmosphere. It wouldv'e been a 5-star review however the young waitress who was also serving seemed to be a bit cold, kept a sour face and gave us the stink-eye constantly. Several times came to the table and asked "are you finished?" Which I found a bit rude. She just looked totally unhappy to even be there.
UPDATE - upgraded the review to 5 stars
Went with a party of 6 last Sunday and, even though there was 1 waiter for the entire restaurant who seemed to be struggling a tiny bit (it was one of the hottest days of the year after all) he did his job amazingly well and served everyone with a positive attitude. Service was impeccable and the food and wine were excellent just like last time!
The Sfincione has become one of my favorite things ever.. incredible.
