It is a nice place, nice concept and great food. So why not higher than 4? Because it VERY expensive! and I mean VERY! Better have some food before you go and then go to enjoy some small dishes and the ambience. I repeat: Do not go when you are hungry! You have been warned.

Not a cheap meal - but good food and good service has meant we have revisited here 4 times for occasions in need of indulgence! My favourite was black miso cod, but a wide variety on the menu means your not going to get bored.

Amazing venue. 4/5 for deco.

Food was lovely! Salmon wrapped prawn rolls hit the spot! Broccoli was amazing. Desert was divine. Food got a whooping 4.5/5 very close to 5/5 for sushi

Service was a flat 3/5 purely because how hard it was to call a waiter. Friendly but just not readily available otherwise they would get a 5/5

Price was greaT. £70 for 2 for a great meal, deserts and coffee. Perfect pricing.

Overall £4.5/5 only because of the service and waiters not being attentive.

I didnt anticipate how huge this restaurant was, I really liked the layout and despite the size it was very ambient.

We couldnt decide what to get so we had a few mixed platters as recommended and a few starters to nibble on.

The black cod sushi was absolutely delicious and I also loved the california rolls which are my usual sushi choice. If your a sushi lover you should definitely check out sticks n sushi!

Absolutely loved it. Service was fast enough even thought they were really busy. We have booked out table in advance but we had to sit on the bar table right next to window. It was a bit annoying but it wasn't big issue. We ordered Ebi Bites, edamame beans as starter. and we have ordered a selection of sticks - scallop, chicken, beef, mushroom. I found the beef one a bit dry but scallop sticks were delicious. For me the start of the day was Ebi Bites. Little cute surprises in your mouth. We also tried some hosomaki's - little sushies. they were fresh and so tasty.  We had white sweets as a dessert. It was so delicious. Not too sweet. Somehow there was a delicate balance between the flavors. I haven't eaten yuzu curd before and it was worth to try! Popped rice was an interesting one. You should definitely try that.

Food comes with nice, stylish plates, trays and bowls. The music at restaurant was a bit loud but it compliments the overall city style.

I could not fault the food at Sticks and Sushi - I love the place - but Im afraid what lets it down for me is the service.  The last 4 times it has been dreadful, with food being delivered late, drinks taking forever, and all 4 times it wasn't particularly busy.
Its also more expensive than Roka - which is a gem - so considering that its not great value for money
We get take out from there now so I don't end up getting cross .....

Even though its prices fit my budget for special occasions more than my allowance for regular dining out, my sweet memories of that “stuffed and happy” feeling leave no doubt about the restaurant offering good value for money. Our dinner yielded a lot in taste and satisfaction, and I’d be happy for Stick

Overall, a really good meal. Once they realised I was there, brilliant, friendly service and once the restaurant had filled up, a nice, buzzy atmosphere. Food was of a great standard, and only a couple of niggles. It is expensive because all of the little extras do add up, but the platter itself was actually very good value, plus a very far cry from the likes of Yo! Sushi, and whilst both are expensive, the value and worth of Sticks'n'Sushi exc

Leaving the bright lights of Soho behind, I find myself in the leafy surburb of Wimbledon on the first preview night of Stick N Sushi's first branch outside its native Denmark. Well regarded back home, would the same concept translate over here?

Quirky names like "bankrupt", "green keeper", "man food" and "four meal drive" give you a clue as to their content. You can also go down the a la carte route but platters are the most cost effective way to get a taste of lots of things.

- Quality of sushi is really good
- Portions are descent for the sushi whereas for the sticks not
- Prices are quite high so you expect the equivalent quality both for food and service
- Staff is kind and helpful
- Have in mind that if you go on a peak time you might find yourself waiting for a while to be seated... It gets quite busy!
- All in all I would recommend it but mainly for the sushi and not that much for the sticks

Love this place, what I love more is rocking up here in my gym gear which is bad but its so local and when hungry I cant resist.

Always packed with smartly dressed people, ready for a good meal in a stylish restaurant, you always get a second glance coming in shorts and trainers, as long as no body odour then no problem.

Expect your wallet to be lighter once you have eaten here as its not cheap and the way its served you just want to keep ordering.

If your heading there in a group then I suggest you book in advance else you may have to wait.

I went there yesterday and the place was absolutely beautiful from inside. It was very busy which showed how popular it is.

I am not a sushi fan at all but the drinks are great there. It is very expensive but there are platters to share. So if you go there with friends it won't be too expensive to pay for.

Tables are furnished with leather tops and they gave a very special service to each of their guests.

Apart from sushi, they have a great selection of different dishes of chicken to beef grills and different salads.

A complete posh nosh restaurant!

My fascination with sushi dates back to my university days in France, marked by several clumsy attempts at rolling maki in a French friend’s kitchen. Since then, sushi has steadily featured into my list of favourite foods; however, it took five more years and a move to London to turn such appreciation into unconditional love.

Back in 2009, the opening of the first sushi restaurant in my small country hometown caused a stir. Everyone my age wanted to try it, excited about world food finally breaking into our provincial universe. Everyone the age of my mother wondered what all the fuss was about, shocked that anyone could ever want to eat raw fish. In an endeavour to bridge this generational gap, I once took my mom there. I have a very vivid memory of that dinner, spent in the attempt to control her rage at not being able to handle sticks. To me, sufficiently conversant with the cutlery to actually enjoy my food, the sushi was good enough to warrant a second visit. I returned to that place a couple of times, but once the hype was over, its neon pink and white interiors, strobe lighting and fast food-like atmosphere became no more than the former latest sensation in town.

That remained my idea of a sit-down sushi restaurant for all these years. Given such benchmark, my first visit to Sticks ‘n’ Sushi in Wimbledon felt like the discovery of a new, unexplored land, and made me wonder if I will ever get back to sushi “as I knew it”. The same feeling I had after my first holiday in Sardinia, when I realised I’d never be able to dip my feet in the High Adriatic again, after swimming in such beautiful sea.

The restaurant offers a massive expanse with spaced-out tables, ideal for both small parties looking for privacy, or groups in need of extra elbow room. If at a first glance its stylish, low lit interiors hinted at a poshness I wasn’t quite prepared for, the enthusiastic verve of our waiters Emily and Jordan, who set us up with three fruity (and better still, alcohol-free) cocktails in no time, immediately dispelled such impression.

We’d consulted the menu beforehand, and didn’t take long to settle for a sumptuous sharing platter, combining both Sticks and Sushi: warm meat and vegetable skewers, and cold fish rolls. First came a generous portion of futomaki, uramaki and nigiri. Or, for sushi novices: fish, vegetable and rice rolls wrapped in seaweed, inside-out rolls (with rice and sesame seeds on the outside, and seaweed at the core), and fish slices laid down on soft rice cubes.

While all of these were excellent, I have the fondest memory of the shrimp, halibut, tuna and salmon nigiri, fresh like no raw fish course I had before. The futomaki, with hints of avocado and ginger enhancing the taste of seared fish, also deserves a very special mention.

I was expecting sushi to win hands down on any other dish I’d sample, but the warm yakitori skewers that followed were my favourite savoury course of the evening. To my stomach, already content with a fulfilling array of sushi rolls, yakitori was a fine feast of well-paired flavours. Grilled asparagus and crispy bacon, tender chicken breast with a pleasantly mild chilli dip, and finally the tastiest of them all: tsukune meatballs, made of a chicken sausage mixture flavoured with garlic and ginger. Sticks beat Sushi, 1 – 0.

Tea and dessert introduced me to a gamut of tastes and ingredients I had only barely heard of before. Matcha latte, frothy and unusually palatable to one who cringes at the idea of tea with milk. The tangy notes of yuzu, paired with lemon in the most fresh and citrusy ice cream I’ve ever tasted. A crème brûlée that led me to rethink my resolute stance on all crèmes brûlées in the world: I shall be blamed for all the times I gave it a miss, not believing that something so smooth and delicate can be created.

The raw food cake I’d set my eye on since the beginning came last, saved in a goodie bag, and sneakily consumed upon arriving home, well past eleven. Even though I felt positively stuffed from dinner, curiosity was threatening to keep me awake at night. Indeed, this moist, nutty, spicy cube of sweetness was a high note on which to close my day.

My final verdict is a heartfelt thumbs up: I’d gladly return to Sticks ‘n’ Sushi. Even though its prices fit my budget for special occasions more than my allowance for regular dining out, my sweet memories of that “stuffed and happy” feeling leave no doubt about the restaurant offering good value for money. Our dinner yielded a lot in taste and satisfaction, and I’d be happy for Sticks ‘n’ Sushi to delight me again.

There is a lot of water in Scandinavia. There’s a lot of water all over the planet to be fair, but in Scandinavia it’s everywhere.

Sweden is made up of around 30,000 islands that on a map look like clay shooting shrapnel scattered across belts of water and the sea. Denmark consists of a peninsula, Jutland, and an archipelago of 407 islands. Great lakes and rivers litter the Scandinavian land like holes in a sieve. And where there are vast expanses of unpolluted, cold and clear waters, there will be excellent things to eat from them.

When I visited Stockholm, I ate more cured salmon in five days than I did in the previous 12 months. You can even fish for the stuff in its waters; fishing for salmon in a capital city - imagine that.

So it comes as no surprise that some of this fine flesh will make its way into the stomachs of residents and visitors alike in the form of sushi. In Denmark’s capital of Copenhagen you will not only find one of the greatest restaurants in the world making the most of the abundance of fresh Nordic produce, but also one of a chain of eight sushi restaurants found throughout Denmark and voted one of the best in Copenhagen, Sticks'n'Sushi.

A couple of fellow food bloggers (@yummychooeats and @edgwareviabank) and I were after a Wimbledon dinner venue that could accommodate our discerning palates and photography penchants.

We three are all suckers for the firm and sparkling flesh of spanking fresh sushi and it turns out Sticks'n'Sushi have had their first UK branch in Wimbledon for some time, soon to be followed by a second opening in Covent Garden in the autumn.

Fully glass fronted, the space within is cavernous to the point that first time visitors exclaiming on entry, ‘it’s massive in here!’ must be an all too common greeting for the staff.

The space used to house horse carts (so our very pleasant waiter Jordan informed us), reflected in the carriage wheel design incorporated into the ends of the long dark tables stretching across the space, ideal for large parties and communal dining.

Above this layer of activity is a huge expanse occupied only by large contemporary Japanese-style lighting hanging from the lofty ceiling. The rear of the premises is home to a bar and the open kitchen and the whole of one side of the restaurant is bordered by the original brick work.

Staff are kitted out in black, the lighting is dim and the atmosphere is sophisticated but informal with unobtrusive monotonous beats of generic house music providing a backdrop for conversation.

Dominico behind the bar rustled up some impressive fruity virgin cocktails (driving involved), that included raspberries, passion fruit and ginger. Fresh and tart and a good accompaniment to perusing the two beautifully photographed menus.

After much deliberation, we decided on the Sticks’n’Sushi set menu for three, encompassing both sticks (yakitori) and sushi.

The cold elements were presented first and on our plates we found shrimp, halibut, salmon and tuna nigri (sliced raw fish sitting atop a moulded ball of rice). Alongside sat uramaki (inside out rolls) working very well with the flavour from the toasted sesame seeds sprinkled on top.

Two slices of futomaki (big rolls) finished off the plate, encasing seared fish, spicy sauce, avocado, cucumber, chilli, red onion, ginger, and unagi sauce (a thicker and sweeter soy) - incredibly flavoursome, sweet and savoury. The raw fish of the nigri was so yielding and delicate it almost disintegrated on the tongue, with soft rice beneath.

The second half of this set menu soon followed, with hot skewered sticks straight from the kitchen.

Perfectly opaque and moist chicken breast pieces smothered in a chilli sauce, juicy and fat chicken meatballs (tsukune) sticky with sweet soy, and crunchy asparagus wrapped in crisp salted bacon - all the sticks carrying a smoky charred flavour from the grill and served with al dente edamames sprinkled with coarse salt to busy the fingers in between conversation.

The intention was to supplement this platter with a small selection from the a la carte menu, but by the final bite we were already rolling in our digestive juices and ready to move onto something sweet.

Green tea and latte - two words used to describe quite opposing and never-to-meet beverages. For we all know, milk is not to be added to green tea.

With much gratitude, Sticks’n’Sushi have shown me an enlightened path. Take fine matcha green tea powder, combine with boiled water, hot milk and whip up into a creamy soft drink. The result is a warming bowl of bubbles with all the comforting qualities of a mug of hot chocolate, but vibrant in colour, less sweet and infinitely healthier. A mildly bitter aftertaste secures its grown up status.

A dish of Four Tasters delivered an almost impenetrable popped rice case covered in white chocolate and housing a sweet miso paste, possibly one of the finest and smoothest vanilla crème brûlées I’ve encountered, and a rich chocolate fondant with gooey centre.

There was also another appearance from my new favourite ingredient - matcha green tea, this time in the form ice cream. A delicate almost neutral yet comforting flavour - quite something.

A Martini glass contained the second of our shared desserts - yuzu (Asian citrus fruit) sorbet, orange, lemon meringue, lemon curd, small lemon pearls, and dried lime. My Mediterranean heritage dictates that the juice of lemons may as well run through my veins, and a dessert like this is so far up my strada, it’s into a different postcode.

Acting like a palate cleanser, the level of tartness and flavour from lemon was at the exact high intensity required in any citrus based dessert. An utter joy to devour.

Three small pieces of raw food cake wrapped up proceedings, of which none of us were able to entertain as a result of top trouser buttons undone at least an hour previously, and so they were packaged for us to sample at home.

Organic brazil nuts, dates, coconut, orange, cacao, goji berries, matcha tea (YES), spiruline, cardamom and cinnamon formed the small and dense cubes, decorated with lime cream, cashews and coconuts.

So many components in a complex and healthy tasting bite that married very well with my morning coffee the next day.

As I’ve shared many times before, Japanese cuisine is up there in my top three. I’ve sampled sushi in many different restaurants which when done well, is difficult to match.

While the name above the door in my mind does not reflect the slick interiors and quality fare, Sticks’n’Sushi exceed expectations when it comes to exciting menus and exceptional dining experiences.

Combine this with the Nordic influences in both aesthetics and service, and you’ll find yourself in a restaurant you will be coming back to.

Liked lots: warm staff, interiors, abundance of space, sharing platter menu, yuzu dessert, matcha tea, excellent sushi, bonsai tree, clay crockery, as much attention to desserts as mains, Nordic influences, the exciting menu
Liked less: little natural light reaches the rear so a challenge for food shots - not exactly an issue
Good for: a different type of sushi restaurant, large groups, communal dining, trying new ingredients, combining sushi with yakitori.

My rating: 4/5

Firstly I love sushi so this place isn’t a hard sell to entice me in but oh my word was this delicious. I ordered the mixed emotions and it did not disappoint. I would mention that the puddings while lovely are quite small. Sometimes you want something small after a meal but sometimes you want to treat yourself too.

We’ve been eating here in and off more or less since the place opened. We returned yesterday to find the service is still excellent and the food as always exceeded expectations. We bought the Carpe Diem sharing platter which we really enjoyed. The monk fish was superb.

This was my first time here and I have to say it was the nicest sushi place I’ve ever been to! The food was absolutely delicious, I enjoyed everything I ordered. The service was also amazing. The cocktails were nice but I’ve had nicer. I would 100% recommend this place.

Been here 4 or 5 times now and absolutely love it. Myself and my partner visited for my birthday and I was so impressed. The service is always 10/10, the staff are very knowledgeable and attentive. The food is delicious and fresh. They also bought me a little dessert with a candle in which was so kind. It’s a little on the expensive side but it’s worth it. The only downside for me is that they don’t have Diet Coke but that’s no problem as everything is excellent. Would definitely recommend to sushi lovers.

Authentic sushi, we came here for a work do and the ambience and value is perfect. Really great time. Feels very high end, which when you’re sitting down for what is let’s face it raw seafood, you really don’t want to skimp on quality. It’s delicious, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are places elsewhere on the high street that are budget quality and pricier at the same time and for a while put me off sushi. Better to stick to what you know.

It was an amazing experience overall. Had to take one star off food because of the desserts, which were Huge disappointment. Starters were great, mains even better. Every single dish was on spot. The service was amazing, and the staff was very polite and friendly. But when it came to desserts, there were only 7 items on the menu, 1 wasn't available, and the manager said it shouldn't be on the menu anymore. From the 6 available, there were 2 ice creams, so 4 choices really. Only the Crème Brûlée was good. The other options felt like leftovers. Also, the portions of desserts are small, in fact, only slightly bigger than a sushi roll, so please order a few each if you happen to have a sweet tooth.

Great place for sushi fans. Amazing selection for kids to eat. A great variety for them to choose. We picked for her rice and a meatball stick and cames with edamame, salmon nigiri. We had a sushi platter and a sushi poke salad. Quite expensive but had a very good meal. We order hot drinks but they came out luke warm and when we told the staff they came back with the drink at a better temperature.

We went here for a late lunch. Didn’t book in advance, but recommended to do so next time. Can imagine at busy times, there might not be a free table. Ordered two starters, two combo set dishes and two drinks. It was way too much for two of us. Ended taking 1/3 away - enough for another meal. The price was on the high end. It costed us £40 per person. The service was amazing. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. She explained all the ingredients of every dishes for us.

Visited the Wimbledon branch of Sticks n Sushi on a busy Friday evening (8pm), having booked a bar-side seat a few days in advance. Service was quick and friendly, but I didn't feel hurried along or rushed at any point despite the website warning of fixed timeslots. The menu here appears to be the same as in other branches in London that I have visited, with tempting and highly representative photos of every delicious option on offer, with the addition of a summer specials menu which injected further variety into an already expansive selection of high quality dishes. Booking is highly advisable

A lovely sit down restaurant, came here for my birthday and it feels warm, welcoming and comfortable. Excellent service and food. Some other sushi restaurants in the road I tried have a grainy texture and weird fishy smell (even for sushi), but sticks n sushi are much better quality and cheaper!! Win win.
