Mariette El-Soury Massabni (Les Délices De Mariette)
+4
I have tried Poppies in Lindon and now back again at Camden Town. I think it is the best in London for authentic Fish and ships. Even staff is amazing with their new costumes
We ordered cod and chips small
Portion size is very large.. fish was very fresh and flaky... chips were great too
This restaurant has ample seating however it does get very busy..
Good food
Love the decor! Strong vintage feel and unpretentious. Food wise: liking the hot seafood platter a lot (esp whitebait and scampi) as for the fish, to me they’re okay but not as tasty as those other two.
It was a great coincidence for us that the restourant was managed by the people where we are coming from :) we tried fried haddock and cod fish, it was quite big and filling. Even it was fried, it wasnt that heavy and oily. They served green pea - not remember exact name- together with fish. Suggest u to try
The BEST place to eat Fish&Chips in London. Placed in Camden, one of my favorite zone of London. Top service 🔝 🍽️ Food 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'll be back soon.
Winner of the best national fish and chips award is what made me try this! It’s really good and the fish are very tender and well cooked. The fries could be better. Expect to queue for a while.
This place is known for its fish and chips and claims that they have won awards for the same. I have eaten fish and chips around UK and so far this has been the good experience.
It has self service also a service area with very few tables. It’s mostly a place to just eat and fill your tummy with their delicacy.
Fish and chips - we tried cod and chips. It was served hot and tasted good. The batter used to fry the fish was crunchy and not oily. The fish was cooked perfectly. I liked the fish with their tarter sauce dip.
If you gonna try fish and chips with its authentic style of cooking then this is the place to give a try.
I had read about this place before and decided to give it a try. It is rated one of the best places for fish 'n chips in London and it did not disappoint.
I ordered the regular Cod n Chips and the size was massive. It is actually enough for two people to share.
The fish was extremely moist and tasted fresh. The coating was very crisp and that was the best part.
The hand made chips were also really nice and crisp.
The meal comes with their homemade tartar sauce, tomato ketchup and the vinegar which is a great addition to the meal.
The staff was also attentive and friendly and the food arrived quick
Overall, while it may be a slightly expensive meal but it is totally worth the price if you want some good old authentic fish 'n chips!
Çok lezzetli fish ans chips .. yağ tadı almadan çok rahat yiyorsunuz , çalışanlar çok yardım sever çok iyi insanlar .. mekan güzel zevkli ve buralardaki en iyi fish and chips...
If you're in London you automatically start looking for a decent plate of 'fish and chips' well at least this was true for me. After trying a few places and being disappointed a local in the area highly recommended Poppies. I was reluctant yet hopeful and head out to dine here one evening.
As soon as we walked in the staff were quite welcoming and sat us down immediately, we chose to sit on the first floor where live music was playing. The singer was good and the ambiance was quite lively with the decor well done.
I wasn't very hungry so I order the 'Hot seafood platter' and a drink. The seafood platter though a starter costs 7.95 and the portion was filling for 1 person and I didn't have any space left for Main course. The batter was good, the seafood fresh and the flavours spot on.
Next time I have 'fish and chips' craving I know where i'm headed. Good food, service and entertainment what's not to like.
Batatinha rústica e uma beef pie como deve de ser! Massa folhada crocante e um recheio de comer e chorar por mais. Não pouparam na carne e o molho apresentou-se bem confecionado, com um sabor bem distinto.
Come on, a northerner in a chippy, in London, I was instantly sceptical that this was just something else the southerners could mess up ... oh how wrong I was. Well played Poppies. A lovely little place with a 1950's decor that's very military to suit the hat choices of the staff, I'm loving this place. Great fish and chips. Excellent food. Quirky. Very well suited to be sitting on the lock. Calling all sceptical northerners. Feel free to be proved wrong. Enjoy. You're welcome.
Wow! I had the food at the prompt time. The meal was so delicious and yummy. A taste you wouldn't be able to resist. I will continually recommend you to family and friends.
Time cautious, nice meal and we'll trained attendants with good training in hospitality. I will definitely recommend you all to friends and family.
First time in London! First time to eat Poppies! I also bought a vintage coke and it was nice! Damn those big fish and lots of chips! Lovely in it!
Fish is incredible chips are okay, they service is average, we realised pretty quickly they're more there for show than to help. The complicated orders were wrong and took forever to be corrected and there was no compensation for the over an hour wait! So keep it simple. It is what it is.
Couldn't leave London without a fish and chips meal. We chose this Poppies and really enjoyed both our choices. Not oily as a foreigner usually thinks of this dish.
If you want to try the traditional fish and chips, you need to go to Poppies. I ate the traditional version with fresh codfish that was very good, fish wasn't fatty and sauce was brought on small pots, nice touch. Service is not very fast, normal price for this kind of food. Located near Camden Town main street, that's a plus.
A very popular (and a bit touristy) venue. Tried their classic Fish and Chips (cod) and the pie. The fish was good, the chips pretty standard. The pie was good. For dessert, tried the Sticky Toffee pudding, which was very good.
The venue is quite large and open late, which is a plus point for those looking for a late dinner. The upstairs seating area is a bit cramped. Service was prompt and friendly. There was a live band playing (it was a Saturday night and I am not sure they have that every night) who were quite entertaining and had a few people on their feet – there were a few birthday celebrations on the evening we visited.
Service was prompt and friendly.
I would recommend this place for someone keen to try the classic English Fish and Chips and Sticky Toffee Pudding. But there are other venues in London which I think do it better.
We tried the traditional large cod fish and chips, the fish itself is good, very oily of course but the fries were below expectations...
we waited 30mins to be serves which is a long time knowing it's a casual restaurant..
Expect to get out of there smelling like a fry!
Nice. I was a little leery of having my 1st fish n chips in London from a franchise but it was really good. Great portion of cod and chips! cheerio
The verdict? Not the best fish and chips we’ve ever had, but definitely worth a visit, if only for the atmosphere. As soon as you step in you’re transported back to the 1940s, ‘Poppettes’ come and take your order as 40′s music plays over the speakers. The service was quick – if a little on the surly side – but all in all nothing to grumble about. Miss Greedy Cochon was particularly happy to find that her all time favourite – battered sausage – was on the menu, and priced at a very reasonable £5.95, while Mr Greedy plumped for a classic, regular Haddock Fish and Chips with mushy peas, at the much higher price point of £11.90. Still cheap for a full on meal, but this is Fish and Chips we’re talking about. Overall, we found it slightly overpriced and lacking a little in flair (the
I was very excited about trying the fish and chips here after originally spotting the other restaurant in Shoreditch.
After waiting for a few minutes, we were shown to our table and given menus. We ordered a large and regular cod with chips and two tap waters.
The food arrived very quickly and with two little jars, one with Heinz ketchup and the other withtar tar sauce.
The regular cod could have been bigger but nonetheless it was a good size for lunch. With unlimited amounts of salt and pepper, we seasoned our meals. The "Sarsons" vinegar was questionable and tasted watered down, which I was quite disappointed about. However, the fish was good and had a nice, golden, crispy batter.
The main courses were filling. When we asked for the bill we were surprised to find they had charged for the tap water! I know it's only 1p per cup but I don't think I've heard of a restaurant to charge you for tap water.
I wouldn't say it was the best fish and chips that I've had but definitely the most well presented one.
Fish n Chips
These fish n chips are the second best we've had in London. This time its the chunky dry Haddock. Cod is generally a favorite as it is juicy. They serve their tartar sauce in a small jar bottles which is cute & Oh So tasty, so much so that we didn't mind licking our fingers off in the restaurant! The chips were handcut, fresh and crisp.
Service: Friendly. This joint is run by Italian brothers. (1 of the guy's name is "Baarish" = rain in Hindi)
Ambience: A Diner feel with vintage interiors inspired by the 1940s with some English classics playing & live music on weekends.
Price: £13
Poppies is considered to be one of the best Fish'n Chips in London! There are good reasons for that! First, you can expect an amazingly friendly staff and nice music! The atmosphere is nice! Finally the food is excellent! Wait until I get to the desert: I have NEVER tried something so delicious - and sweet, to be honest!
The traditional Fish'n Chips are really good! It is, of course, deep fried, but you will not even notice! The fish is fresh and well prepared, so are the chips! If you would rather have something else - like a long time londoner may feel - you will not regret to have the calamari rings! Well done, as well, good sauce, excellent! Peas are really carefully prepared as well as tast adorable.
Now, the best: caramel sticky toffee pudding! After Fisch and Chips and some side dish, all you don't think you need is desert! 'Till one of your friends suggest one to share and you get this! I am Brazilian, used to very sweet deserts, so I am biased! The pudding is sweet - it is caramel, anyway! But to break the sweet of the pudding you will get a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Super yummy!
I suggest you go with time! It is a really nice place to go out with friends! Enjoy!
This was easily the best fish and chips I've tried during my holiday in London. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was so light and crispy. The staff were friendly and efficient, too.
First food we tried when visiting London. It was giving 50’s diner vibes. The portions were very large and were delicious. The chicken needed a little more seasoning but the gravy helped. They also were out of Mackerel but we tried Haddock instead per the servers recommendation and it was good. Overall I would recommend to try at least once during your stay in London.
10/10 a super place to recommend! They didn't have cod fish that day but the other option was delicious too!! The portion was huge for two people. We were very happy, the place is very nice and the atmosphere is great, the waiters are the best! I hope to be able to go back!! Thank you!!
I visited Poppy's after hearing from multiple people that “this is the place to go for fish & chips”, and I will say, fish & chips were excellent! However, the real star of the dish was the tartar sauce - unreal. While I also tried their sticky toffee pudding, I would say it was just okay and not really necessary to order. Overall, if you're in the mood for some great fish and chips with amazing tartar sauce, Poppy's is definitely worth a visit.
The Atmosphere was all ours, the fish and chips were all Poppies.
Poppies organised 50+ portions of fish, pies and chips to take away, and they just nailed it.
50+ portions all ready for despatch bang on time, beautifully packaged and arrived piping hot. Here they are at The Magic Circle being enjoyed by fifty happy members including our brand New President..
All good, food and service is ok. Asked to be seated at the window but were refused as it was table for 5 (but the restaurant was full with available seats). The food came quick tho
Amazing! loved the place! we ate real good fish and chips. The portion were massive, hardly finished it ! the staff was so kind and the atmosphere perfect !
Favorites: Haddock fish & chips.
Classic fish & chip restaurant and take away kiosk. They have a couple of locations across the city. The fish & chips are delicious and tasty.
To complete your London experience, I suggest trying their fish & chips.
Excellent Fish'n chips in a very british atmosphere by a very nice and welcoming staff.
A restaurant that specializes in classic English fish and chips.
You can sit inside or order from a separate takeaway counter.
A delicious hot and fresh dish.
Loved my meal here, the place may seem like a tourist trap but it isn’t. Lots of memorabilia in the interiors, the service is fast and friendly, and the food was outstanding. If you don’t want to leave London without eating some Fish & Chips… THIS IS THE PLACE!
They do excellently what they are here for - Fish&Chips! Worth going just for the junior size, half the prize but almost same amount as regular…very friendly service, usual crowd of guests causes slow service though - however, they serve with a smile!
