Had a lovely lunch with my missus and son. The roasted lamb shank is an absolute triumph. Great food at cheap prices. Will definitely come back.

Petit auberge combines the best of all worlds. It's beautiful, the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, it's creative and it's comfortable. The music is never too loud and the service is fantastic. There's no pretence - just fantastic mojito crepes, coq au vin, French onion soup 🇫🇷 and aubergine bake. Nestled in upper street, it has all the reasons to be f my favourite European restaurants in London.

The Steak Test. From my point of view, kept in context with everything else that matters, it is the quality of the steak that defines an establishment. And I am very difficult to please.

La Petite Auberge is a fine little bistro. Very reasonably priced, perfectly charming, and the food is elegant in its refined simplicity, in a way that I think only the French can muster.

I have to confess that I deviated from the menu. I walked in with an idea in my head, a craving if you will, and they were happy to indulge me.

I forget what sauce was on offer with the sirloin, but I asked with a smile if instead I could just have some garlic butter. Maybe some freshly chopped parsley. Garlic and parsley butter would be perfect. But only if the chef agreed and had time...

The chef seems to have understood. My steak arrived perfectly cooked. Well sourced beef, rich with iron, tender under the knife and melting in your mouth. The vegetable side was succulent, crisp and tasted green (which is another marker of quality in my book). And on the side in a little jug was a perfect garlic butter and fresh herb sauce, which did not otherwise feature on the menu.

Simple and gracious service. Simple and elegant food that allows each ingredient to shine naturally because they've taken the care to find quality produce and know how to cook. It just makes you love the French....

I am yet to explore more of their menu, apart from a delicious taste of my friend's choice of main, however someone in that kitchen understands food. Culinarily speaking I would trust them with my life.

Don’t go if you’re looking for a very fine cuisine, it’s not a classy gourmet restaurant but rather a good address to go with family or a bunch of friends.

One evening, just about a year or so ago, I was abducted to this French restaurant La Petite Auberge, on Upper Street, Islington, by a friend of mine, who happened to live around the restaurant’s corner. She was adamant to prove we did not have to spend h

I was recommended to this Bistro by my Pregnant Best Friend who was frequenting almost on a daily basis. I have visited only twice but I'm trying to go back ASAP.
This bistro is nothing spectacular to look at and it would be easy for you to walk on by but my friends that would be criminal and here's why.
On my first visit I had the Rabbit Casserole because I thought if anyone cuisine would get it right it would be the French. I was not disappointed. It was comforting tender and full of all the right flavours. But my little gastronomers that's not my favourite dish. On my second visit I ordered the Filet Mignion.
Wowoweewaaa!
THE BEST DISH ON THE TABLE THAT NIGHT. It was accompanied by Mrs Potato Gratin and their little pork baby. Oooh wee this little family was balanced succulent and one of moment when you wished you had a never ending stomach so you could carry on eating. Guys it was perfect. Ha everyone was jealous but I was not sharing.
Portion was good and value for money is actually unbelievable. All the starters was of high standard but I don't want to dwell on them because I need to go straight on to the dessert.
I was under strict orders from my hormone filled friend to order the Chocolate Soufflé as SOON as I sit down regardless of not ordering any starters and whether it was on the menu (which it wasn't btw). This was for 2 reasons. One = to ensure we get one. Two = it takes 25 mins. If they are too busy they may not be able to due to the usage of too hot an oven. So was I to go against the orders of a woman growing a baby? Er I value my life too much, I did just so. Well, well, well! I took one spoonful and time had actually stopped! There could have been world war outside and I would have been sitting there enjoying this cloud of light gooey chocolate. It was coupled with hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream that I devoured AFTER I finished the soufflé as I didn't want to taint the flavour with anything else. Heaven in a ramekin.
So why haven't I given the Bistro 5 rating?
Unfortunately on my second visit my sister in law also had the Soufflé with me but she said her chocolate sauce tasted of meat and thought I was going mad if I liked the sauce. We swapped sauces and in fact hers was a chocolate gravy lol (I secretly enjoyed it I mean what's not to love? Gravy good, chocolate good). We informed our waitress who apologised profusely and changed it. They also never charged us for the dessert. To be fair the gravy pot was extremely similar to the chocolate one but it shouldn't happen. My best friend assures me she has NEVER had a problem when she's been so I guess it's one of those things.
I cannot recommend enough although I want to keep this gem to myself.
JUST GO!

Perfect little French restaurant just off the main path of upper street, traditional French cuisine and all the classics, frogs legs and slow roasted meat that falls off the bone.

I have frequently passed La Petite Auberge, as it is very closed to my house, but not been in. I was intrigued by the charming French decor and decided that for my birthday I would finally give it a try.

The interior has an ambient and rustic feel, strings of garlic and little lanterns hanging from the wall and cute red and white check table cloths on each table. A glance at the menu suggested that most of the mains were quite creamy dishes so we decided to order two starters to share between our party of four, rather than one each. We ordered the vodka chilli prawns and fried Camembert. However when they arrived there was a big difference in portion size between the two starters. The prawn dish consisted of only 3 prawns whereas the Camembert was a large whole Camembert. Despite this massive size difference both were extremely delicious and very much enjoyed. The prawns were meaty and flavoursome but the Camembert perhaps slightly too filling to be had for one person alone.

For my main I had the rabbit casserole, and the rest of my party ordered the roasted lamb shank, steamed salmon and confit de canard. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their mains, which were all generous portions, though as suspected all were extremely rich dishes so we were very full afterwards. My rabbit casserole was very tender and is definitely recommended.

Overall the staff were extremely friendly and attentive to us. We had to change one of the mains orders and they did this without fuss. As it was my birthday meal, they also put a candle in my dessert which I thought was a cute touch.

I came to La Petite Auberge  because I was looking for a good place to have crepes and I definitely came to the right place! They have an extensive crepe menu which includes classic and their own original recipes. I tried the Kinder crepe which is essentially a crepe with melted kinder chocolate inside and it was AMAZING. It was quite heavy but really really good.

The restaurant is split in two areas, one in which you can eat a full meal and the other which is a bit more casual with high tables and barstools where you can just sit to have a coffee and a crepe. The crepe chef comes to get your order directly and cooks them on open crepe stoves which makes the whole place smell amazing. This place is really cute and casual and has a really french rustic look with wooden tables and wooden mirror frames. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. I definitely recommend coming here!

This place manages to maintain an authentic French vibe through both the décor and the food. The inside is warm and welcoming with red and white checked table cloths and soft lighting which is accentuated by the candles that sit in the middle of each table. Another lovely touch is the crepe bar to the right of the restaurant which provides a variety of delicious looking sweet and savoury crepes which are made to order.

Food- The flavour of all the food I tried here was delicious, but extremely rich, so be careful not to go over- board if you are planning on ordering more than one course. For starter I had the vodka and chilli fried prawns which were light and perfectly seasoned. This was a contrast to my friend’s starter which was deep fried camembert; unsurprisingly delicious but rather sickly and filling when served with bread. For main I had the salmon with spinach, new potatoes and a white wine and cream sauce which had a wonderful, rich flavour and was very filling. My friend’s rabbit stew was a warming bowl of comfort food which came with a side of buttery mash.

The service was friendly, and most of the waiters were French which kept up the authentic feel. I will definitely be returning to order a bowl of the mussels which looked like a firm best seller, and I trust that this is for good reason.

This restaurant is located on Upper Street in Islington, Angel.
It's not very large, but the atmosphere is nice enough, typically "Frenchie" to be short.
A perfect place for a dinner with friends where you can talk without shouting.

The menu is quite simple but it smells like France and the prices are affordable. The time I went there I had a fried Camembert entry followed by a steak with potatoes and a dessert.
At the end of the note for 4 with a bottle of wine was less than 100 pounds, which is acceptable.

The Staff (mostly french) is truly kind. I recommend the place with no doubt !

This little french restaurant looks very cute and the prices are very affordable. Ok super cheap! The neighbourhood is amazing as well. However they maybe went a bit over the top with the stereotypes in the decoration and in the menu. The cuisses de grenouilles and Escargots are not really representatives of french tastes. I had the Camembert Frit and it was delicious. Only for big cheese lovers but if that is the case you will not be disappointed. Go for it especially if you have to pay the bill...

Went there for a Monday lunch. It is a bit strange that there are two menus to chose from, but the waiters don't really tell you that both are available. Food was nice, not like blowing your mind/out of this world kind of thing but very nice. Staff was attentive although the waiting between starter and main was definitely too long, I think they forgot about us at some point but it was OK, we were not in a rush. Prices were fine and average for the area.

For a simple and classic French dinner, this is solid choice. Good for groups or a couple. Many options on the menu, from snails, soup, fish, rabbit, mussels and vegetarian. Service is slow, and would love served a slice of bread with the snails to mop up the garlic butter oil

First time eating at this lovely French restaurant. Great for a pre concert drink and dinner. The food for four both starters and mains were great. Chicken livers, artichoke, Rabbit casserole and Seafood brochette were all very good and all washed down with good inexpensive wine. Will definitely go back 😁🇫🇷

The wife booked this as we were in the neighbourhood for a gig and this is a long overdue birthday dinner for her. The food was lovely. She has mussels and I had a posh version of bangers and mash. But it was French so therefore cooked better and was better ingredients. Very nice. The wife loved her dinner too. Desserts were amazing too. I had Tarte Tatin but the wife had the crepe with apple and cinnamon. I was very jealous but she let me have some as it was huge. Very tasty. The bill we very reasonable but had to say about adding a tip as this wasn’t asked for but was well deserved. Wry polite, friendly, and efficient service. Lovely atmosphere too. Would love to go again.

Was recommended this place by one of my French work colleagues as one of her favourite french restaurants in London and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is really intimate and cosy and every dish we had was totally banging. We started with the baked brie with blackcurrant sauce and the garlic mushrooms. For the mains, I had the Parma ham wrapped chicken with creamy garlic stuffing while my boyfriend had the duck. We finished with a banoffee crepe. All of it was absolute chefs kiss. Can’t wait to return and devour more of the menu.

Best place to get authentic, quality, classic French food in Islington. All reasonably priced and available as a part of a 2-course or 3-course menu, or à la carte. Love the chicken liver, cooked just right, with generous portions of lardon, served over fresh lettuce and garnished with thinly sliced onions.

Decent food and great service. I ordered steak fillet and thought it’s regular steak and fries like in France, it has so much gravy, the steak was drowned in sauce. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s good tho but not what I expected. The Sauvignon blanc was beautiful
