Great service and great food! Wanted to have some authentic fish n chips and was not disappointed. I highly recommend it if what you are looking for is great food.
We ordered the master's special fish and chips, grilled sea bass and calamari. First comes the cold prawns and bread. The cold prawns are good! The fish and chips is delicious too - Batter is thin and crispy, the fish itself was cooked soft and nice. I also recommend the calamari. Husband had the Grilled sea bass. He said it was good :)
Coming from the Midlands I've discovered that although London has lots of food to offer sometimes it just can't get the basics right. But this place puts some fish and chip shops in from home to shame. The fish always test so tender and the chips are great. Huge portions and just so delicious. It's not a fancy place but the food supercedes all that.
We were staying across the road during our visit to London and wanted to try some good Fish and Chips else our trip would not have been completed :-) so we Zomatoed some place in and around. The place had some great reviews and we though of giving it a shot! The place is having a good cozy seating arrangement with nice clear view of the street and in far view you might catch a glimpse of London Eye! We ordered Specialty Sea Bass grilled and Cod fried fish n chips. The portions are generous and of good quality. Whereas Cod was very nice and crisp, the Sea Bass did not live up to the expectations as it was too smelly to eat. May be we made a wrong choice in selecting Sea bass for grilled portion but anyhow Cod tasted fresh and soft. The service is decent. I would have rated this place higher if the ambiance was little better and the fish was not smelly ;-) but overall a nice place for quick friend fish n chips with some Beer if you like!
It was right next to our Hotel and we thought of resorting to Zomato for finding a good dining place close by. So in London and you need to have the very famous London Fish n Chips! Saw some reviews about this place and just walked in. The place does not look very upmarket but is good cozy place. Nice large portions of fish! True taste of fish n chips of London! Once a lifetime try for sure. Place is decent and food is good. We ordered Master's Special Cod and Grilled Seabass. Seabass was a little smelly although Cod was very moist and fresh. Service was good.
Food was amazing, but the service was pretty dire and very unfriendly. Didn't even understand what a battered sausage was.. Sauces were cheap and drinks were small.

No frills fish and chips. Came back here after a fantastic meal here years ago. Don't remember most of the staff looking ethnic looking - look at the menu, most of the "Masters" empire is Asian food. All walks of life in here tonight - locals, tourists with suitcases, students, everybody. Got a fishcake which was OK. They give you bread and prawns to start with - didn't touch the prawns. Got the fried cod which comes with chips. Large portion with fairly substantial dark skin. Was OK but not the best I've had in London. Chips were ok but not oustanding. They give you a hut pot of ketchup and tartare sauce - but turned down the gherkin and onion. Pretty humourless service as others have pointed out.
As an American I was very curious to try "proper British" fish and chips. Masters Super Fish met my expectations and more. The fish was fresh and generously sized. The chips were pretty much like anywhere else, but you could tell the fish was high quality. One of the best fish and chips I've had and not too expensive to boot.
No-frills British fare. So very English, and nothing touristy about it. I went on a Wednesday night and it was packed with old English chums, all in their late 40s in clusters of 5+ and it was a lovely no-frills atmosphere.
The food was mediocre, though, and service was sluggish and completely deadpan; not a smile to be seen. The batter on the fish was delicious, but the cod itself was rather rubbery and didn't seem very fresh. The grilled sardines and salmon were tastier, but the fries were underwhelming. The steak & onion pie looked 100% like a frozen pre-prepared meal that was just thrown in the oven. Most pleasant surprise was definitely the pickled onions and cucumbers, which tasted homemade and not out of a jar. Prices were okay, though I'd even expect it to be cheaper in an establishment like this.
I'd recommend it for a no-nonsense typical British dining atmosphere and for food in terms of the fish and chips, but don't expect too much out of anything else.
Huge portions and excellent fish. Can't go wrong. I didn't care much for the shrimp appetizer however. Otherwise it's a gem.
Great place. I must agree this is one of the best fish n chips places I have visited. It is in level with Rock n Soul but you pay less Master Super Fish is only beaten by the Ox in Manchester
Oustanding!!!. This place is great, not great, fantastic. The place itself is pretty basic so don't expect fancy silver service and romantic corners. But it makes up for that big style with the food. The fish come sin one size - whale size which is refreshing compared to the minute servings we are becoming used to these days. Its fresh as well and well cooked.
The prices are also hugely refreshing, you wont need to remortgage your broom cupboard to eat here.
If you like traditional fish and chips this place is an absolute must.

With dad being in town, it seemed only fitting that we help ourselves to some fish and chips. Since we were going to the Philharmonic at the Royal Festival Hall we Googled for a fish and chips restaurant near the Southbank and landed on Masters Super Fish which received rave reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp.
You enter by way of the takeaway kiosk and find your way to the dining room next door where you are welcome to seat yourselves at any available table. Windows look out on the main street and invite natural light into the room and the wall is partially papered with currency from different countries.
After ordering from the selection of fish, a plate of bread and shrimp are brought to the table. I found the eyes on the shrimp rather disconcerting and it was amusing as dad and I tried to get to the meat but at least I tried something new.
Soon our dinners arrived and talk about HUGE portions. The waitress also brought around bowls of pickles and onions for us to choose from if we wished.
The fish was fresh, moist and delicious and the chips were tasty. It was a definite treat and although we have never sampled a large number of fish and chips options in London, we were well pleased and for the price and amount of food we were served I would definitely recommend Masters Super Fish if anyone was fancying fish and chips in the Southbank/Waterloo area.

This is my local fish and chips joint and I'm so happy to have this place local to me as me and my friend frequent this place at least once a month.
As the previous review mentioned, the decor is a bit dated but a large part of me doesn't want that to change otherwise I fear it might become pretentious and put their prices up.
The food is great, after having tried almost the entire menu (well the fish side of it anyway) I can tell you this beat local fish and chip joints hands down. They have fresh fish from Billingsgate Market every day. Their calamari is great, prawns are awesome and above all, the prices for what you get is almost unbelievable! In short one of the best places to eat fish second to Southend!
The Master Fish and Chips does have its minimum seating and nothing much of ambient to speak of other than the movie posters which adorn the wall. But do not ignore for the place for the lack of any fancy cutlery.
The lack of a formal dining environment is more than made up for the brilliant Cod Fish with its crispy sturdy batter and Chips. This is by far the best Fish and Chips I have had in London. The huge portions and the prompt service makes up for the experience. The lunch time specials are very famous with the locals and it gets quite crowded during that time.
The Fish and Chips is accompanied with baguette slices, gherkins and cooked prawns. The place is inexpensive for the food served and personally I would visit the place again to have my fill of Fish and Chips.

Amazing fish and chips! We got the cod and the portions were huge. Loved that they gave shrimp, bread and pickles for free - it was a great way to start off the meal. The place didn't give off a touristy vibe, it seemed like a neighborhood spot to eat.
Great service and fresh fish. Love both cod fish with mustard and cod fish fillet. Shrimp is a free starter which is surprisingly yummy. The only downside is the smell of the oily smoke on clothes
Worth the flight to UK? Maybe. This was the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. Great service, too. We had the battered and mustard combo, a side of mushy peas, some curry sauce on the side, some pickles and picked onions, calamari, a few prawns... chased it all down with a couple of ciders and we were in fishy heaven.

I would normally dock a star for service because it was really busy so everything, from ordering to paying took a while. However, they were really nice and could use more staff.
I love this place. Currently serves my fav cod & chips in London. Nice large fresh pieces of fish, good solid chips. They throw in a shrimp appetizer and bread and pickles for free. Friendly solid service. If you have to go to only one F&C place in London, this is my pick. You really can't go wrong.

Great fish and chips. Portions are large (however significantly smaller than they were pre-pandemic). Prices are decent (however significantly more expensive than pre-pandemic). Overall while the quality has gone down in recent years, it is still one of the best fish and chips places that will give you a large, hearty meal.
Fantastic fish&chips - don't pay ANY attention to how the place looks. True, it's a little bit odd. But the food is simply great! Enjoyed every bit of my haddock and chips. Would recommend it even with much higher price tag but it's cheap, at least for London. Lots and lots of local people inside and that means something ...
Amazing place. Went in for fish and chips. Ordered and sat waiting. Waitress comes over with bread and butter, pickled onions and gherkins and shelled prawns. Not expected at all. Well worth a visit if you're nearby.
Food was very good and has been for many many years. The restaurant has adapted social distancing very well and so I was very comfortable to eat in.
I had Tiger prawns and cod and chips and it was delish. 5*

Lovely restaurant which is a few doors down from the Hilton. Well worth a visit for proper fish and chips, in old school surroundings with plenty of character and charm. Friendly and attentive service, definitely will revisit.
This place is like a magnet for tourists. But it’s no tourist trap because it’s a proper old school chippy serving one of the best fish and chips in the capital. Would’ve been five stars but let down by the erratic and gormless service.
We waited one year to come here again, thats how good the fish and chips is! And if we ever in London again this is the place where we ll eat, congradulation to the people at Masters superfish
A great place to go near Waterloo for some proper English fish and chips. Lovely little set of complimentary appetizers also..who would have thought. Freshly cooked fish and chips, large portion size, definitely recommend to any natives or tourists..

Yummy fish and chips. We got the lunch specials and got a meat pie as well. Both were delicious. 2 lunch specials for 26 pounds. Definitely recommend if you are nearby. Easy to get here by bus too.
