This is one of the good ole places in London. Tucked away inside from the hustle bustle of the river side walk, this hidden gem serves some amazing brews. Their food is local pub fare with huge portions and the desserts are good and as huge as the mains. Brownie is a must try.
Loads of time for the Tap. Tucked down the back of Tower Bridge, local boozer, Sam Smiths so cheaper than usual. Chilled, intimate, pool, darts. Might be a couple of frugal students looking to save money lurking but they mean no harm. Surprisingly spacious smoking area.
Well worth a visit if in the area
Great Sam Smith's pub just down from tower bridge - on our quest to find the best darts pubs in SE1. Games room + a selection of reasonably priced ales
We had a great time at this pub. We got there right when the restaurant part opened and chatted with the restaurant bar tender who was a very friendly and funny guy. The food was delicious. The steak and ale pie and bangers and mash are incredible. Great beers and ciders too. We’ll definitely be back.
A last minute discovery before retiring home, we came across this little gem of a pub, you know, one for the road, and all that.
It was late, about to shut, but the atmosphere and the 2 bar staff were incredible. Worth revisiting at busier hours if only to soak up the proper atmosphere.
A nice selection of lagers & ciders.
The pub is kind of isolated. Pretty quiet. The waiters are all funny chaps they love to drop a joke or two and be super friendly with you. Rarely seen such easygoing service. They also checked is everything fine with our food. The food was amazing. Burger and Mac and cheese were really good. They had this weird selection of beers but the obscure one we got were pretty good. If you want to meet people, have a good time and preserve your eardrums, go here.
Now this was the highlight of the day. I can't recommend it enough. A really old fashion pub, it even has a saloon bar and an excellent barman too. I would have happily stayed there much longer than we did. Decent prices, nice atmosphere and nice beers. Looking forward to going back.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this little pub on our search for a classic pub and it was the perfect find. The barman, Darren, was an absolute delight. The beer, cider, and fish & chips were all delwand quintessentially British. Can't wait to go back and visit again next time we're in town!
A little hidden gem of a pub , not too far from the Tower of London and tower bridge . Does a good good selection of beer 🍺 and cider, the interior of this pub has many of its original features including the individual rooms and some of the decor . Thankyou for making us feel welcome 🤗
A very authentic pub, just a touch out of the bustle of the Tower Bridge tourist traffic.
My boyfriend and I came to this place by chance and we were very happy to have found it!
It doesn't seem to be a touristy place even though it's very close to the tower bridge, so it's more enjoyable.
The service and food were amazing for an English experience👏🏽.
My husband and I found this gem on Sunday , April 30 , 2023. Darin the manager welcomed us & showed us around. It’s like walking back in time . He is knowledgeable & entertaining -honestly the reason we stayed & had a terrific meal!
We had been looking for an authentic English pub experience and this place is indeed just that. Ordered the mashers with sausage and the fish & chips- terrific!!!
Thanks Darin!!
Beautiful classic London pub with a great selection of drinks. Close to Tower Bridge with a nice, friendly atmosphere. Great to get away from all the tourist traps
I was here for just a brief second and ended up going to a different pub for unrelated reasons. However this is a lovely, cozy and friendly place. I was greeted kindly at the door and I will return to stay for longer next time. Really nice!
A nice and traditional London pub, right next to tourist spots. Staff was friendly and quick with our orders, also patient when we still had to make up our minds which drink we wanted to chose.
As we were really hungry we ordered food upstairs – and were surprised by the high quality of the food. Absolutely delicious.
Right next to Tower Bridge. This is no tourist trap.
I'll have to guess here cause I'm not sure if it is Gerri or Julie is the boss. What I am sure of, as a one time, long time, resident of London, is that the Anchor Tap is an exceptional pub. I worked in pubs all over the city but this was special.
It is a tied house, and that limits your choices on drinks, and has a small menu.
But this is more than compensated by the lovely ladies who run the house and barman Mark who we met today.
The beer is good, we tried the India and the Pale. The food was proper English pub food. But the real stars are the staff and the centuries old pub.
It won't be for everyone. It isn't as polished as many. But if you want to experience what a real London pub is then I can't think of better. Try the varied, traditional, bottled beers. Play pool or darts. But ideally, have a feed, sup some excellent pints and chat to the other customers.
No music, no TV, but great craic and fun with locals, tourists, and suits from the local offices.
I couldn't recommend it enough.
Beautiful pub only a minute walk away from Tower Bridge reached after avoiding all the tourist traps on the way. Food was delicious, the place was homey and the service was lovely. A nice lady welcomed us and took our orders. Prices were also totally fair. English people (so not only tourists) were also eating here. Definitely recommend if you want to try some good local food without being ripped.
The landlady and welcome at the Tap were superb. It was the first time I’d been back to the pub for several years and was delighted to find the decor and atmosphere hadn’t changed a bit. Wonderful traditional pub, great service and the best sausage roll for miles. I would have loved to have stayed longer but vow to return again soon.
Im not one for writing such reviews (indeed it’s my first) but felt it was worth taking the time to do so on this occasion.
Thank you.
Terry
Pleasant traditional pub. Staff happy to have random football conversations. Sam Smith's beers cheap as ever, despite being yards from Tower Bridge
No music, No electronic devices; but thats what makes it a great place to catch up over a quiet pint. Thats not for everyone, i get it... but its the city of London.. Theres limitless other venues you can get the laptop out and make your loud twatty phone call in. Not here. This one is ours.
