The main course featured Seafood Biryani - basmati rice studded with fish and shrimp, mixed with herbs, spices, and dried fruit - and sides of delicious Fish Curry, Coconut with Asparagus and Snow Peas, and Yogurt Sauce. Also on the plate was a deep fried Sesame Okra. The vegetables were surprisingly simple and vibrant, and provided a nice crunchy juxtaposition to all the seafood.

Warm ambience, enjoyed serenity - a good change from hustle bustle of most of the restaurants; good food but it should add more options on vegetarian side! Hot rasam was refreshing. Baked yogurt was excellent - not to be missed.

Restaurants get Michelin stars for a reason ... and this restaurant QUILON is worth every penny and every second of ur time. ( If you have a taste for India specially South Indian food). Would recommend try the Mini Masala DOSA, Baked Black Cod, Lamb Biryani. Staff are extremely courteous. 5/5 on every aspect of a restaurant.

Very impressed by this restaurant did not know what to expect as it was last minute booking.

They were very friendly from the telephone booking to the waiters at the restaurant.

We ordered quite a lot for two people we started with the masala dosa for starters and for mains we went for prawns masala ( Excellent a must try ) and lobster butter sauce ( boring nothing much happening catered to the English ).

As well the mango curry was very nice and the okra fried both were very good !

The tomato rice as well is very nice and a must try.

Over all a very nice place for your south Indian food !!

Over the years, I’ve collected some rather tasty memories at Quilon – the Michelin-starred restaurant specialising in the coastal cuisine of South West India. It’s where my family and I celebrated my momentous milestones back in my school days. Quilon also catered my best friend’s wedding breakfast a couple of years ago – and as I recall, there was a slight lapse in my bridesmaid duties as I snuck off to snaffle a few of the idi-cupcakes making  their rounds.

With the redevelopment of Victoria I’ve been excited to tell you about new places such as M Victoria Street, Kouzu and UNI, but there’s a high quality restaurant in Victoria which I’ve never reviewed…in fact I’d never actually been there. Though Quilon has been in Victoria since 1999 and has held a Michelin star since 2008, in my ten years of living in the area I was still yet to try the Indian restaurant. Our visit was sort of accidental. It was Christmas Eve and we’d popped to the famous Goring Hotel for a glass of festive fizz, our intention was then to go for a light bite of sushi at Kouzu, located directly opposite the hotel. Kouzu was closed but we were in high spirits and wanted something a bit different so we headed to Quilon! With a Michelin star to pre-empt opinion and a location in the luxurious Taj Hotel, it was clear Quilon wasn’t going to be your standard curry and we were looking forward to trying the high quality Indian food.

I love discovering places that I didn't know existed. And thanks to Zomato's recent #zomatomeetup I was able to do just that a couple of weeks ago, when they took us on a tour of the restaurants at St James' Court, to show us the new 80 Tastes offer - where you get to try food at all 4 of the restaurants that are part of St James Court and the hotel. On a hot, muggy evening in London I arrived at St James's Court - spacious and leafy, it's a little oasis in the middle of the city and all the tourists (it's right between Victoria and Buckingham Palace). We started our evening with a  Laurent Perrier Champagne Flight (which you can do on its own too for £20 a head, rather than as part of the 80 tastes food tour if bubbles are more your thing, though I'd advise you do the whole tour, as it's so good). We were given 3 glasses of bubbles, each with a canapé to compliment the drink. We started with the Laurent Perrier Brut which was served with Scottish scallop and avocado tartate - a lovely, fresh tasting bite that was excellent with the champagne. Next was the Laurent Perrier Vintage 2004, served with a summer vegetable ratatouille crostini. The final champagne was the Laurent Perrier Cuvée Rosé, with salmon, crème fraiche and caviar - I really liked this champagne and food pairing, with the rosé bubbles cut through the oily fish and delicious caviar. The Champagne Flight is available every day at The Cellar Room.

Very good ambience... Perfect hangout place with family and friends. Snacks are delicious but low on quantity. Wish their menu had few more choices. If you are a vegan, you may struggle a bit.... But waiters are able to revise you some tips and can suggest few (on the fly dishes) not in the menu....

Quilon is quite a sophisticated, upmarket Michelin starred restaurant at 51 Buckingham gate. Quilon provides modern South-coastal inspired food from India, their specialities include lobster butter pepper fry, crab cakes and aapams.

I went to Quilon during my stay at the iconic St James court hotel. I was craving Indian food with a good fine dining experience and thought of Quilon instantly since it was just 2 minutes away from my hotel. The restaurant is beautiful from the inside, I could not help but notice the amazing art inside the restaurant they had paintings from popular Indian artists like Parish mehti and S.H Raza.

I ordered a portion of the crabcakes, and a seafood platter that consisted of crab cakes, prawns and a fish I think the platter was called the fisherman's catch, the crab cakes were nice they were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The rest of the platter was very average and lacked flavor. For mains I ordered the lobster and some kind of chicken curry that I cannot recall with malabar paranthas. The lobster was cooked very well and tasted very good, the chicken was a disaster I did not like the chicken at all it was very heavy and lacked spice.

I would only go to Quilon for the lobster and the crab cakes the rest of the food is average..

Quilon is a suave and sophisticated Indian restaurant that has held a Michelin star since 2008. It specialises in a modern interpretation of traditional cuisine from the South-West coast of India. Foods from this region are usually lighter and have more delicate flavours than the richer and denser foods of Northern Indian. I myself am an ardent fan of North Indian cuisine - Moghul Court, Punjabi and Lucknow cuisines in particular. However, I really do believe that the South-West coastal food offered by Quilon to be excellent.
The restaurant itself is very contemporary and features artwork by the Indian artist Paresh Maity.
Asianhawk recommends: the Black Cod with Tempered Asparagus and French Beans and the Seafood in Mustard and Coconut Cream.

A Michelin star restaurant with south western Indian food - never heard about. And to hear raving reviews from a European Colleague was surprising.

So we ended up at dinner there. And for two and a half hours. We didn't realize how good it was. The small poppadums with both spicy and sweet chutneys was great to start. The crab cakes and mini dosas were good. The black cod blew me away. The wine was great. And the chilli sorbet and the chocolates at the end with cappuccino rounded off a delightful meal. Strongly recommend this one to everyone in London.

Quilon - South India's best !!. I have now been to Quilon on at least 3 times which normally prompts me to start offering an opinion on places. Each time, I have been there I have been consistently impressed by the culinary skills of Sriram Aylur's team in the kitchen. Tucked away next to the St. James Hotel, this restaurant despite being given a Michelin star has not lost it's charm. The staff are excellent and professional and the cooking show cases the best of South India. Most run of the mill "Indian restaurants" are in fact Bangladeshi run places and the food has been anglicized to the point where everything is drowned in heavy oily sauces with different levels of spiceyness. Quilon is the opposite. This is Indian cooking at it's very best - be it the Chicken Mangalore or fish dishes. The Uppam ( a flat rice based bread- typical of South India) is light and fluffy and along with the vegetable side dishes . The wine list is extensive and compliments Indian food well, though there are those that feel only companion for Indian food is beer. Whilst there are more well known Indian restaurants in London, it's worth searching this place out if you want to try out outstanding South Indian cuisine. Price wise this is at top end of Indian food prices but then again you cannot expect high quality food and attentive service in pleasant unhurried surroundings for any less in central London. Highly recommended.

Absolutely excellent!. I have been to this restaurant dozens of times as I often stay in the hotel next door. The staff are very knowledgeable of the menu and happy to suggest foods and alternatives. This is not standard Indian cuisine. If you are looking for a rogan josh or a lamb buna then you should be on Brick Lane. The mini masala dosa is superb and the range of vegetarian curries are unusual and brilliant.

Good modern Indian food. Only eaten there once, but I was very happy. Food was unusual but tasty, well spiced.

Was a bit formal and a bit quiet when I was there (on a weekend lunchtime), and there were some tourists with a loud child, but even that couldn't spoil it.

Quilon isn’t your usual option for Indian cuisine, it doesn’t feature any of the usual Indian options like Chicken Tikka Masala, Korma and Naan.  Some may be familiar with the traditional South-Indian favourites like Dosas and Idli, but for the majority (including myself), that’s where my knowledge ends.  Quilon, with it’s one michelin star, goes even further to extending our Indian cuisine knowledge base and is dedicated to the coastal cuisines of South India.  Don’t know what that means or where that is? Neither do I, but I was in for a treat! To make sure we try a little bit of everything, we go for the Tasting Menu , an extensive range of items all meant to be shared and dipped into, in true authentic Indian style. We start off with a selection of Poppadums and dips, but as might be expected, these are a cut above the norm.  Small little discs of poppadum, perfectly sized to allow a bite of a dollop of one of the variety of chutneys.

There are only six Michelin Star Indian restaurants in London right now - a number which i expected to be a lot larger. I guess the main reason for there not being so many is because both service, and decor are sometimes not at the forefront of an Indian restaurants mind. Some however, like Quilon know that Indian food deserves this kind of environment and attention to detail. I’d been meaning to try it for some while so we decided to go along one saturday and try out their incredibly good value for money set lunch deal. A piggy bank savings worth of £24 will get you three courses, poppadoms and chutneys, amuse bouche, petit fours and a coffee of your choice. I don't even know how they manage to make any money - by the time we'd left i felt feeling though i had robbed them. Head chef Sriram Aylur grew up on the south-west coastal area of India, a mecca for fragrant seafood dishes. Quilon isn't your usual option for Indian cuisine, it doesn't feature any of the usual Indian options like Chicken Tikka Masala, Korma and Naan. Quilon, with it's one michelin star, goes even further to extending our Indian cuisine knowledge base and is dedicated to the coastal cuisines of South India. To make sure we try a little bit of everything, we go for the Tasting Menu, an extensive range of items all meant to be shared and dipped into, in true authentic Indian style.

We start off with a selection of Poppadums and dips, but as might be expected, these are a cut above the norm. Small little discs of poppadum, perfectly sized to allow a bite of a dollop of one of the variety of chutneys, I'm a fan of the mango one which is laced with garlic and manages to not be too spicy or garlicky all in one taste.

The starters are herb crusted tilapia, perfectly cooked with a little crunch to the crust. The grilled prawns are a surprise addition to the fare and meaty and juicy. The lotus chop is more perplexing, it's not a taste I'm familiar with, the closest comparison I can make is a vegetarian burger patty, but a little bland.

I'm pretty glad that I didn't bother finishing up the Lotus chop, because all a sudden there's a swarm of activity and waiters line up to adorn our table with jewel coloured dishes, even smelling more amazing than the last. We're served up a dry chicken dish (on banana leaf), sizzling marinated lamb, Mango curry and a side of Coconut with asparagus as part of my five a day. Do you know how you know you're having an amazing meal? When you have a full plate but you can't stop yourself putting even more on your plate from a favoured dish. And no matter what we did, the dishes were seemingly never ending and finally we were forced to admit defeat.

Was it the mild but rich Mango curry that was my favourite? Or the big hitting chicken? Or the asparagus and snow peas, so gently cooked and flavoured with coconut? Or was it possibly the impossibly flaky and light Malabar Paratha. And for anyone in the know, it's almost impossible to class Parathas as light - they're literally a heart attack waiting to happen, cooked as they are liberally in ghee. But somehow, they manage to make it work here and I can almost believe I've chosen the light option. Leave me to my delusions please.

While we're eating, they bring us out jewel coloured glasses of Rasam. I'm trying to explain what Rasam actually is to fellow guests and I've got as far as the inadequate explanation of 'A kind of Indian soup' when I realise that absolutely nobody is listening to me, they're all too busy inhaling the warm tomato spicy aroma and guzzling it down and casting longing looks at mine as I'm busily talking, instead of drinking it. It's divine. I wouldn't have listened to me either.

By this stage, the very thought of dessert is making everyone feel a bit ill, but Quilon doesn't have a Michelin star for nothing and they've planned their dessert to utter perfection. It's a light as air concoction of coconut foam, fruit jellies and mango sorbet with a mere hint of sweet chilli syrup. It's about 10 times better than I've just described it and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. If that doesn't convince you, then there's not much that will.

Chef Sriram Aylur can be seen busily going around the restaurant and if there's one question I'm desperate to ask him, it's Where is this coastal area that's the inspiration for this meal, because I'd quite like to go there. Watch out South India, you're about to be over-run.

Gorgeous, South Indian focused food, Michelin starred total VALUE for money, excellent location why isn't this place full? Why isn't it at least half full? Why isn't it heaving on a Saturday afternoon? Why have I not gone back? Lack of ambience can be a restaurant killer, but Quilon really deserves to be up there grabbing attention for delicate flavours, great variety, and an incredible lunch menu. I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and I'll be back there this week!

Head chef Sriram Aylur grew up on the south-west coastal area of India, a mecca for fragrant seafood dishes. Watching his father cooking in the family restaurant as a young boy made Sriram fall in love with food which eventually left him travelling across the globe cooking in some of the most prestigious restaurants, palaces and private events. It wasn't until 1999 when Siram opened Quilon and in 2008 gaining its first Michelin Star - which it has kept hold of ever since.

Walking in to Quilon was like walking into an oasis, neutral warm colours, no lingering heavy smell of spices but instead a fresh zestiness in the air and not to mention the incredibly friendly staff. We took our seat, ordered our wine and were handed some tiny poppadoms (just the right size to put in your mouth all at once) and an array of chutney, yogurt sauces and chili oil sauce dips - they were the best accompaniments i've had in an Indian restaurant to date.

For a set lunch menu there was a huge choice to pick from. First was the pepper shrimps, battered and fried then cooked in what the menu said was a fiery masala. Luckily everything here is cooked to a medium spice so not to blow your face off, if you'd like it hotter then just ask. The prawns were large, succulent, covered in a lovely crunchy batter. The light covering of masala sauce was the real winner with a lovely deep flavour and strong chilli flavour - but without the intense heat.

Cauliflower chilli fry was again battered and fried with spices, and tossed with yoghurt, green chilli and curry leaves. It was full of flavour, crunchy and juicy at the same time and the level of spice was just perfect - cauliflower chilli fry and good rom-com on the sofa could definitely keep me happy.

Quilon is a Michelin starred restaurant attached to the Crowne Plaza off Victoria Street. I have some fond memories of both the hotel and the restaurant.

This beautifully decorated restaurant serves specifically Kerala and also other pan South Indian cuisine. The portions are a bit Michelin star, so watch out if you are very hungry!

They do a nice set menu as well. I recommend the lotus root and any of the sea food. Lovely for special occasions.

Lovely dinner experience with great service and delicious Indian cuisine. We stumbled on this restaurant by researching our hotel (Conrad St. James) that we stayed nearby. It so happens that a reservation was available for our final night in the city and we're so glad we decided to dine herem The ambiance is modern, elegant and inviting with lots of seating available. We were looked after by a very nice server and team, who were genuinely warm and welcoming. The menu was explained well and we ended up choosing the sea food tasting menu for the evening. As this restaurant specializes in sea food, it was agreat choice. The food was truly delicious, all courses expertly crafted and prepared. Very impressive, even my wife who typically does not like Indian food, absolutely loved it! We ended up not doing the wine pairing, but sampled some of their cocktails instead. They were very good, especially one called Indian lady. The delicious desert was also part of the course which was enhanced by a special birthday slice for my birthday celebration. Overall, this restaurant is outstanding, definitely up there with some of the best I've been fortunate to dine in. 5/5 Highly recommended.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this restaurant. This is one of the very few Indian restaurants you’re fine that is a Michelin star take on South Indian cuisine from the state of Kerala. Was good food, unique style and presentation. Sambar came in a little cocktail glass, unique. Saat, a South Indian chaat with fried little idli’s. Staff wasn’t able to understand me fully or my questions, where they had to bring in another staff member who was very helpful. Love that the staff is from Kerala, true to the restaurant’s roots, but better communication would be nice.

We were greeted well, with the waitress taking our coats and showing us to our reserved table. My family and I got the vegetarian taster menu and a few cocktails. The food is very low risk with basic tastes. Hardly any spice and even dishes where you may feel they could make it more sour or add a tangy kick it never came. The cocktail was not very strong either. Service was friendly and explained the dishes but we're not very attentive in refilling water. Overall for £60 to £70 per head I'd recommend saving your money and going to a nicer restaurant in Mayfair. Weighing up the price and standard of food it was not worth it.

Restaurant: Great ambience, clean toilets. Service: exceptionally good service. Food: portions are small for the price. The complimentary papad and rasam were really good and adds that surprise package to what restaurant has to offer. Starters: mini masala Dosa was good. It was just decent Dosa. Sambar was not great. Very mild and could have been little spicy. Southern saat was exceptional. Broccoli and spinach gallette was slightly oily but tasted really good. Main: Tava parathas were really good with lots of layers. Mango curry is a must have. As a south Indian myself, I must say this is the must have in this restaurant. Cottage cheese and colored peppers was decent. I was particularly disappointed with the use of basmati rice in both tomato and lemon rice given that south Indian rice recipes do not call for flavoured rice. Lemon rice very tangy. Tomato rice was much better with flavours balanced. Drinks: we tried multiple drinks qojito and frozen mango margarita. Both drinks failed to capture any essence of south India for me. But they were decent nevertheless. Dessert: We had room for very less dessert so we ordered only one baked yoghurt. It was so good that we ended up ordering another one. It comes with three flavours: mango, lychee and jaggery. Jaggery one is ultimate. Overall the food is really good though the portions could have been better for the premium price.

Quilon has a lot going for it - a Michelin star, great service, excellent food that allows its patrons to explore novel dishes that draw inspiration from coastal south Indian cuisine. However, the only reason I'm docking a star is that this place needs a bit of an overhaul. The ambience feels dated and is unimpressive, the attention to detail is lacking (our drab white dining table cloth had stains from a previous meal, there were fingerprint stains on the wall). Overall, it feels like the place is in serious need of renovations. Nonetheless, the team is doing an excellent job with the food and the service, and that is something I greatly appreciated. Would recommend visiting for the food!
