Santa Maria Del Sur is a cosy little Argentinian restaurant in Battersea which celebrates its 10th birthday this week!. I was invited here for a media get together a little while back and really enjoyed the restaurant. I have such great memories from South America and I always love trying restaurants here in London that remind me of those good times. The exterior of Santa Maria Del Sur is quite subtle but as soon as you step inside, you can feel the South American vibe as you’re surrounded by dark wooden decor. I like that the restaurant has remained authentic throughout the years and it doesn’t have a chain-restaurant atmosphere.
When an email popped into my inbox about lunch at an Argentinian restuarant, my first thought was HOLY HELL YES. Because I love me some steak. And red wine. And having lunch with other awesome London food blogger types. Hello lovely Sunday. Typically, the Central line was being a pain and I ended up missing my train from Waterloo by seconds. I was totally that person who runs up to a leaving train looking dishevelled and distraught and swearing a fair bit. Good job there was another one to Vauxhall in a few minutes, eh? I hopped in an Uber and managed to make it to the restautant, only 20mins late, and perched my bum down next to Alex and opposite Em. Thankfully, they didn’t berate me for my lateness…too much.
This place does some of the best steaks in town. All steaks are cooked on hardwood fire grill unlike all other restaurants that cook them on gas grills, so they have so much flavour. The place itself is nothing special and really far form central London. Nevertheless its all about the steaks here and they are amazing
For quality steak Santa Maria is hard to beat and was once featured on Gordon Ramsay’s best restaurant’s. The fact that it’s an independent makes the pull stronger and that it’s often full despite it’s off the beaten track location is testament to Santa Maria’s popularity. A great date venue if you want to impress, not stuffy but smart with an air of class. You can see the chefs at work, cooking meat on the huge open grill.
A small cozy Argentine Stake house in this part of London. To be honest it's hard to find good stake at this price in London, but it's also true that it wasn't probably the best stake I have had in my life. However, the meat was really fresh and the ambience was very pleasant. They close around 10 pm so be sure to get there early and have a great steak. My recommendation would be the Fillet which is usually the softest cut and also give the Argentine beer a try it's very smooth :)
Amazing. The best steak in London by a considerable distance. I can't wait to return!
We ordered the most expensive steak on the menu. I like my steak well done, but I was advised by the waitress to go for medium to well. Fantastic advice, most definitely the best steak I've ever tasted bar none. It was melt in your mouth tender, succulent and tasty. Well worth the price. Staff were polite and attentive.
A very rare thing. What a fantastic restaurant, I simply cannot fault it. Mouth watering food, very obviously carefully sourced and cooked to the diners taste to perfection as ordered by everyone.
Very friendly and knowledgeable service from both staff and management with the table service well timed, unhurried and unobtrusive to the dining experience.
Sunday lunch was excellent. Very friendly and efficient service. Remember to leave room for the fantastic desserts.
A wonderful experience!. After seeing the restaurant on the F Word, I decided to make a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday for dinner. Their online booking system was easy and we had no problems getting ourselves a table for the time we wanted. Although we did have to wait a few minutes to get in as we arrived a bit early and the doors didn't open until right at 6, they were very polite and apologetic for making us wait. But it was most definitely worth it. We cannot stress how much we loved our experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere is very cosy and warm, with lovely music in the background. The waiter was very helpful, and explained all of the different steaks and made recommendations. Our Argentinian wine (Alamos) was divine and only helped maintain the warmth and relaxed atmosphere of the evening. Just as we finished our appetisers that were prepared in a timely manner, our steaks were brought to our table. They did not disappoint! We enjoyed them and never felt rushed. The great thing was that despite it being fully booked, it wasn't full all at once which allowed the staff to be attentive. The manager/owner came over several times to make sure we were happy with everything.
I can say from experience, that compared to the majority of London area restaurants that we have been to with waiters who have never heard of the concept of 'customer service' this was a welcome change. Wanting to catch a Spanish La Liga game right after dinner, we asked the manager/owner for any recommendations of places nearby as we're not familiar with the area - and before we left we had in our hands, precise directions of where to go and how to get there. Finishing the evening off with delicious espresso, we came out of Santa Maria feeling like we'd just spent the day at a spa. Staff came to say thank you and goodbye to us at the door. Their accolades from Gordon Ramsay are well deserved and we are looking forward to going back to have dinner again. We highly recommend it!
Fabulous!!. We went there for Mother's Day, there were six of us including two small children (5yr and 3yr) and we couldn't have felt more welcome...what a fantastic restaurant, warm and welcoming and the food is fabulous...my dad said he's never tasted a steak like it...I think it would also be a great place in the evening when you could while away a good few hours with great food and a great ambience...will definitely be returning again...a "must" visit...
AMAZING!. Best Steaks in London! Fresh melted cheese on your own personal hot plate. Amazing Red Wines. Desserts are out of this world!
Steaks on the grill, lovely whiff of summery barbeque in the air
The only person I would dissuade from eating there would be a not-such-a-big-fan-of-meat, but I have a feeling that if such a person 1) existed (the horror!) and 2) visited, they would leave the restaurant a meat lover!
We started with the Empanadas to share, which are made on the premises (traditional Argentine pasties, choice of beef, chicken, spinach
A friend heard about this restaurant earlier in the year. We were intrigued by the prospect of enjoying some traditional Argentinian fare in downtown Battersea so booked a table. We had to wait for a few weeks before we could satisfy our lust for great steaks - an appearance on TV (F Word) meant that bookings for dinner were at a premium. We arrived promptly on a warm Friday evening and after explaining we were a group of three (rather than four as booked) we were shown, rather strangely, to an unlaid table - completely bare - even though similar, fully laid, tables appeared to be available. The staff scurried around and quickly laid our table around us, then reorganised some tables next to us to accommodate what would obviously be a larger group. We noticed during the evening that the staff appeared to be 'taken by surprise' by every arriving group of diners, even though it seemed everyone had booked (and had their booking confirmed). The menu featured a good
The phenomenal steak restaurant that is Santa Maria Del Sur, an Argentinian restaurant run entirely by Argentinians that specialises in flame grilled meat and hearty red wines. The restaurant won Gordon Ramseys F-word last year, just
The grilled tuna steak, empanadas (Argentine pasties), provoleta (grilled cheese), morcilla (black pudding) sausages, sirloin and fillet steaks are consistently perfect (with fillet outranking sirloin).
The food was amazing, and the music superb, nothing like a Bandoneon playing your favourite tangos, with good wine, Quilmes beer, and excellent steak. I strongly recommend it as a Latin American, If you like steak this is the place to go, you can also check them in Gordon Ramsay’s F Word season 5 where they compete and won the best American restaurant for the F World’s Best Local Restaurant, and also reached semi finals.
Excellent little restaurant tucked away on the streets of Queenstown Road in Battersea. We didn't have a reservation but luckily it was a weekday and they were able to fit our group of 4 in quite easily.
Started off with spinach empanadas, 2 for a starter portion is quite hefty, but they were delicious nonetheless. Two of us went for the Parrilada deluxe, steaks, argentinian sausage, black pudding and provolone, very good value at £30pp for all that hefty volume of food.
The service was slick and effective and the food a wonderful find in a part of London not known for its good food.
Had a great meal here for my wife’s 40th. Beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Excellent wine list (especially if you like Malbec!) My third visit to this south London hidden gem.
Delicious food with friendly service. £10 steak and fries deal is good value and for someone who doesn’t eat steak often I was impressed by the tenderness of the rump.
This place is really special! The platter was outrageously delightful- that cheese! The steaks didn’t even need sauce, the fillet was so juicy. I live on the other side of London but I’ll be back. The team there are also lovely. A real gem.
Was on the 156 bus and saw this place from the corner of my eye! Pressed the stop button quickly in a spontaneous manner and decided to go in to Santa Maria del Sur. Had beef empanadas mostly, but did try the ham and cheese one. So delicious, oven baked. Paired them with a bit of chimichurri which went perfectly. Great food and customer service, thank you Dani for the nice chat! Will definitely be coming back :)
Fantastic Argentine Restaurant. The steaks tasted wonderful with the sauces. The staff were very helpful.
My son enjoyed his birthday meal.

The empanadas are the best i have ever had, especially the ham and cheese! A hospitality restaurant Will defo come again!
Lunch time deal, £10 for steak and chips. Was fantastic value.
The best restaurant to eat Argentine food in London, good attention from all the staff.
I loved the mojitos. They were really tasty and especially since they were made by Daniela Jones. The food was outstanding! I adored the ham and cheese empanada. It was just scrumptious! Overall I had a great time and I can't wait to come back :)
Everything went well, well organised. My St. Valentines day. I request share plate mixture of meats. It Cost £64 the meat everything else is extra total £112. It was very tasty 😋
My friend and I had delicious steaks. Perfectly cooked. The wines paired well too.. you know you have nice steaks when you don't use the sauce you also ordered
The sides were fine. But the stars were the steaks
You have to try the steak! It was so beautiful cooked. Paired with some amazing Argentinian wines!
Argentina might be too far away to go for dinner, but Santa Maria del Sur is a close second!
Been coming here for 10+ years now, and still one of my favourite London restaurants. The food is amazing! An absolute hidden gem.
An authentic Argentine restaurant filled with mouthwatering dishes and an extraordinary waitress who took our dining experience to new heights.
The rustic decor create the perfect setting for a delightful meal.
We indulged in a variety of traditional Argentine dishes that left us speechless, the succulent grilled steaks cooked to perfection.
Our incredible waitress Dani transformed our dining experience into something extraordinary. From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with a radiant smile. She went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable time.
She anticipated our needs, kept our glasses filled, and ensured that every request was met promptly and with a smile. Her warm and friendly demeanor made us feel like VIP guests.
For an authentic Argentine culinary experience, Santa Maria is an absolute must-visit.
Dani made our lunch perfect, her recommendations of main dishes, empanadas, drinks and dessert were absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely come back.
Thank you very much Dani, marvelous service!
We are a steak club that has been going for over 10 years. We meet once a month, every month. Santa Maria del Sur was one of the first steak restaurants that we visited and always wanted to return. We did that last night and were reminded why we enjoyed it. Great, friendly staff, excellent food and good value for money. Go check it out.
