Highly recommend it with such yummy kebab and rice. The place is cozy and clean. Service is great. And yah forgot to tell you about the tea, don't forget to have it in the end of your meal with their desert Falodah
You know those no frills airlines where you get what you pay for but the environment is pretty basic? Well, follow me here on an evening out to a ‘no frills’ restaurant in Kensington, a location where you’d normally certainly expect plenty of frilliness. For years the Lovely Husband and I have given our now traditional End of Summer Drinks Party at our house to which we invite all our most favourite friends. This year, as every year, the catering was done by a fabulous professional caterer (), one of London’s best, but also a good friend of mine of many years standing. She manages the catering and cooks for some very well-known names, broadcasting companies, christenings, weddings, funerals and every other occasion you can possibly think of, but has always maintained a hands on, sensible approach and unlike so many others, doesn’t charge the earth. This lovely woman, clever, pretty and obviously a very talented cook, suggested we meet up outside of a party environment to catch up on family news. She told me that she had discovered this tiny little Iranian restaurant, she was sure we would enjoy, particularly after our recent visit to that country. And so it came about that on a dull October evening four of us found ourselves at Mohsen, pronounced Mosheen.
I've been eating in all the West London Persian restaurants for years and Mohsen is my favourite by a long way. Although it's a modest little place, the welcome you'll receive from Mohsen, his wife and their staff is exceptionally warm. But realty what keeps me coming back is the fantastically authentic food. No one makes better Kashk-e-bademjam and the Zereshk Pollo on Mondays and the Baghali Pulao on Saturdays are heavenly. The kebabs are the best around and the freshly baked bread excellent.
The other starters were also delicious; my favourite part of the meal. Kashk oh bademejan was a mush of grilled aubergines and whey with a fabulous smoky aroma. There were more – a fresh salad from Shiraz amongst them – but I missed most of them as I was down in the furnace of a kitchen watching saffron-marinaded kebabs sizzle deliciously on the grills.
Overall, I was very pleased with Mohsen. It pleasantly reminded me of one of my other favorite Persian places (Caspian Bistro in Minneapolis), but with much better bread, while still being affordable even by my US-calibrated standards. Aside from it b
Lack of atmosphere and rather sterile dining environment spoil what is an outstanding quality of grilled meat. If you want a quick lunch, their grilled minced lamb and salad is the best Persian around.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. A family run cosy and comfortable restaurant with nice staff and great food. Nothing too fancy but just the way you would like it. The Chenje is by far the best on the menu. Get a Chenje, ask for a lemon and squeeze it on top of it and drizzle some Somaq(the red powder) on it and you’re in heaven.
The food here was unreal! The best Persian menu and tasted like heaven. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and the service was 5 star! The team could not do enough for us and it just made it even better. Can’t wait to come back.
We went to this place in search of food and luckily they were the only one offering dinner at 5pm. The food are freshly cooked and their flat bread is nice and crunchy straight out of the oven. The portions they give are really generous, mostly are good enough to be shared by 2 people.
Superb food, friendly service and BYOB [£6 per wine, £1.50 per beer]. Highly recommended
During our last day in London, my husband, 1.5-year-old toddler, and I visited this restaurant for dinner and were genuinely impressed. We even returned for lunch on the following day. The presence of a children’s chair was a thoughtful touch.
The staff at the restaurant were delightful, providing excellent service throughout our visit. The mixed grill platter we ordered was truly amazing, perfectly prepared and presented. Additionally, the Naan bread made by the owner was a delicious highlight of our meal.
Overall, our experience at this restaurant was fantastic, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting London. The friendly staff, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience for us. We are looking forward to returning in the future.
Wonderful place! The food was absolutely delicious, the chicken is particularly was so soft and juicy. The service was great and the atmosphere is lovely. Really recommend.
What an amazing treat to take out the family for some genuine persian cuisine! Great iranian atmosphere with fresh on demand made iranian nan! An amazing experience, highly recommended.
The best family owned and operated authentic Persian food in London. Thanks Lady chef.
خیلی خوب است ^^
Love the naan bread! Handmade, actually slapped into the oven and freshly baked (I want to build a tanoor at home 🥹) Soft and springy around the edge, and super crispy and aromatic at the center, reminding me of thin pancakes at home. (5)
Kashk o Bademjan is a perfect dip for the bread. Smooth but textured with walnut and eggplants. Doesn’t feel oily. Slightly bland for my liking. (4)
Chenjeh comes with a very generous portion, usually enough for two people. Both fortunately and unfortunately, I didn’t follow the recommendation for the mixed minced and steak grill combo. The lamb was incredibly tender throughout the skewer, although I expected it to have more spice and had to add salt and sumac (?) by myself. The saffron rice tastes great. (3)
The total price was not inexpensive but I was dining alone and had no one to share the cost of the starter and the pot of tea. And I proudly finished them all. 🫄I’ve already recommended the place to my friend and will come back to try more dishes at the family-style restaurant.
Truly a 5-star experience. This family-run restaurant has it down packed. From the authentic flavors of the food, freshly baked bread, beautiful decor and impecable service demo testing true Persian hospitality. Ensi, one of the staff members who graciously attended me, helped me narrow down my choice. She knew the right questions to ask about my preferences, thoroughly explained to me the dishes and even showed me pictures. The entire staff was so very kind and attentive.
My evening meal started with Kishk Bademjan, an eggplant dipped potently flavored with herbs, served with a side of freshly baked bread. My main course was the lamb shank cooked in its own broth with a side of dill rice with broad beans. Truly a spectacular meal.
If ever in London, please make your way to this gem of a place. I come to London often and look foreword to giving them more business and spreading the word. Great job, Mohsin Restaurant. From the servers to the cooks, thank you for making my visit a memorable one.
This was our first time in the area and found this amazing restaurant. Chef suggested to try different dishes. The guy was making fresh Naans in front of us. Do try their herb rice with lamb shank and chicken with tomato and saffron sauce. Overall its lovely family run restaurant since 30 years. We will be going back again.
