Enjoy the afternoon day in here is perfect idea.
We got pimms no.1 and the beer, freshing our tired day.
The service is really nice and friendly.
Stumbled across this pub tucked away from the main streets. It is quite a charming place and the open fire creates a special and comfortable atmosphere. We had the vegetable pie and the fish and chips. The pie was perfect whilst the fish and chips were of a very generous tasty portion. They also serve a great range of drinks here.
Though this place is billed as a gastro-pub, this venue is clearly more popular for alcohol than food. Nevertheless the food is really good. We had an assortment of starters and tried the Steak and Ale pie, and the Sausage and Mash pies.
The pies were really good. Didn’t get around to dessert as the kitchen had closed by then. Ambiance is cosy, and service is friendly.
One of London's top historical pubs, tucked away in a lane way of covent gardens preserving its original charm throughout generations since 1772. This is a multi-level pub where the party goes on downstairs and dinning upstairs. The interior is dark with cozy art-deco look- brown leather, dark wood and green fabrics.
The staff are stunning, just down to earth, genuine, efficient and so friendly!!!! I loved this authentic British quality when visiting London and it is at its highest at Lamb and Flag!!
.. As it was a Sunday and our last day in London, we ordered the traditional Sunday roast: perfectly cooked beef with a thin consistency gravy, roast potatoes and veggies with the best Yorkshire pudding (crispy, light and perfect chewiness). What a hearty, warming, satisfying and authentic meal!.. Dessert was the traditional toffee pudding (also a British specialty): the pudding was lightly spongy and dense, the toffee sauce was sticky, warm, smooth and rich contrasting with the creamy vanilla ice-cream -the most pleasurable experience scorching all my senses with the contrasting flavors, temperatures and textures!!.. What a way to end my journey in this majestic and historical city!!!
This pub is really full of atmosphere! We found it while we were walking around in Covent Garden, and it was such a luck! We had our meal upstairs, eating two wonderful and huge cheeseburgers. Come there and have a look!
The word that comes to mind when describing this place is atmosphere! As a central after-work drinks place, this place is often packed with workers mulling out into the courtyard.
Tucked away in a hidden alleyway in Covent garden, it's loud, busy, has loads of character (I've read on other reviews about it being an old Charles dickens haunt) and a great place to meet friends for a drink.
The restaurant upstairs is tiny so bookings are essential. We booked here for a group of friends, all who of which were satisfied with their dishes. The menu consists of classic pub grub.. Bangers and mash, fish and chips, chicken and includes a few vego options too (pasta, salad) but this was one of the better 'traditional pub meals' I've had.
The only downside in my opinion is that in the restaurant, there's a bar that non-diners can stand at for a drink, so in after-work hours, you end up shouting across the table to chat to your fellow diners.
Overall though, this place his good, tasty food, and perfect location and is a great option for meeting friends in the city!
Great fish & chips, awesome atmosphere, & entertaining and kind service. Favorite pub in London. Fullers, Guiness, & cider. Yum!
I've only ever eaten at the Lamb and Flag twice; once with my parents in October 2006 and again on my own in July 2008. When I went with my parents, we had Cornish Pasties with Chips and Beans and we all enjoyed it. When I went again on my own, I had a meal budget of £7, so that was enough to buy a Diet Coke and Jacket Potato with Tuna. The food there is good, but people can only eat on the upper floor. Other than that, the Lamb and Flag is a reasonably-priced pub to eat at when you're out shopping in Covent Garden.
An Oasis in the land of Cappuccino. Sunday 29th Nov 09. Nursing hangovers and plodding the mean streets of Covent Garden in the pouring rain, we needed a good warm, and some proper food. We used to go in the L&F about twenty years ago, and loved it then. Its still a great pub, and a welcome change from the Wine Bars and Coffee Houses of Covent Garden. The food is nothing special, Pork, Lamb, Chicken, Beef roast, Fish and Chips, all served with fresh-from-the-freezer vegetables, but its just a joy to go somewhere thats not pretending to offer anything special; just inexpensive, well prepared and well served food. Enjoy the plastic tablecloths, the HP sauce, and the ping of the microwave. Its great!
It's amazing when you are able to discover hidden treasures in the city. An acquaintance recommended visiting the Lamb and Flag pub in Covent Garden. I'd been there before on weekdays but this person specifically told me to go on a Sunday afternoon, the t
Today's post continues my recent alleway theme (I used to write mainly about coffee and Bloomsbury, now it seems to be alleyways...). If you are sashaying down Floral St (one of Covent Garden's better shopping streets) then take a tuen into the rather cramped Lazenby Court. If you are over 5'8" then get ready to duck to avoid a dong to the head - as you emerge on to Rose Street you will find yourself out the front of one of central London's most charming and dinky pubs, the Lamb & Flag . Whilst the facade was rebuilt in the 20th century, there are relics of an 18th century house frame inside and there has certainly been records of a pub on this site since 1772. But it's not really about the history here - it's more about finding what feels like a secret pub, sinking a few pints of London Pride with good friends outside (weather permitting) and hopefully avoiding the bare-knuckle fighting that was de rigeur at this establishment in the 19th century - earning it the sobriquet "The B
Quickly now, what comes to your mind when you hear the words French Cuisine? For me, fine dining, regional, and an assortment of French translations for common ingredients that are clearly the fading remnants of my eight plus years of childhood education
Though the food is certainly nothing special, the overall atmosphere is. I loved the upper-stair level on the first floor (above ground level). There are ceiling tinsel and decor allll over and the pub tables by the w
The Lamb & Flag is a traditional boozer if ever there was. Tucked between Garrick Street and Long Acre, this was once Charles Dicken's haunt of choice. A bit spit and sawdust, it's a good place to stop for an after-work drink (or after-Dishoom drink) and mill around outside in the cobbled courtyard. Its olde worlde feel harks back to its 1772 origins and it's a pub that's been drinking in London's history for centuries and coating everyone who steps inside with a little bit of it. Worth a stop if you're in the area.
I was invited here for an evening by a friend who happens to be a regular customer. He mentioned that Dickens used to be a regular here, and that this is one of the oldest pubs in London, and has been around for about 250 years.
The place was small but cosy, and since it is tucked away in a pedestrian side street, there is a lot of space outside for customers to spill over into. There is a dining room upstairs with a good menu and decent food, but closes early for some strange reason.
Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Covent Garden.
Oh, what can I say about Lamb & Flag in Covent Garden?! It is tucked in a little corner of a mostly pedestrian-friendly alley, and you would always find Londoners enjoying ales and sharing great timezzz outside this awesome drinking hole. The smell of yeast (easily mistaken for some other smell) makes you realize that you are at the right place if you are looking for a true English pub atmosphere. Lamb & Flag is the familiar stop of many West End pub crawls, and very rarely disappoints. They have a second floor for roasts and lunch if you fancy it, but within a five minute walk from the Covent Garden station, Lamb & Flag could be anybody's daily stop between work and home.
Service friendliness could be improved but I guess that's a given for London pubs, innit?
Amazing lively atmosphere at the bottom of the pub. When we got upstairs for dinner, it was quiet and a great experience! Staff was incredibly kind, friendly and helpful for all that they had going on! The fish and chips are a must. The added curry sauce was flavourful and rich. Incredible experience and would definitely recommend!
Nice old pub. Very busy great vibe. Well priced meals and beers. Upstairs dining room has a laid back vibe - great service
Classic pub tucked away in Covent Garden. We say upstairs on a busy Saturday and enjoyed a couple of pints and some bar snacks. Probably on the top end for pricing, but the pigs in blankets were good as was there. Big vibes downstairs and out the front.

Small little pub, nestles away off the busy surrounding area. A must visit for tourists in the area wanting an authentic British pub feel. Very limited seating outdoors but can stand on the street with your drink. Limited seating indoors. Good selection of drinks and beers on off. Few cask and craft beers available too
A historical pub with a solid Sunday roast. Good, but not exceptional. The sirloin and chicken lathered with the rich sauce was delish, but what the heck was wrong with the potatoes? They were rock-hard and inedible. Luckily, we also ordered the fish and chips and onion fries. Salvation. Service was prompt and friendly.
The food is well prepared and authentic, the waiter is very helpful, and the historical old pub vibe is as good as I expected.
Oh my god. Built in 1623, and it shows. In what world does a restaurant stay open for 400 years. I’ll tell you, a restaurant that provides top notch food, service, and quality. I truly could not be any happier about my experience here. The beer is good and my favorite meal is definitely the fish and chips but my goodness it’s amazing so is the burger too
Yes, my shoes stuck to the floor (slightly) and the place gave an auru that many pints had been consumed (and spilled), which is exactly what I expected from a 400 year old Coveant Garden bar. It has personality, friendly service, and charm. We enjoyed a slow sit down pint in the afternoon, but it seemed like a great pub crawl stop. If in the area and the crowds were away, I would stop by again.
Cozy pub with exceptional food and friendly employees.
We came here two times because we had to book, and apperently children aren’t allowed on the first floor because that's the bar part of this restaurant.
But including all that, it was still worth it
Came here for a pint & meal before threatre! The atmosphere was lovely due to the feel of the pub. The food was pretty good - we had the fish & chips + lamb sausages. Only improvement could have been the chips which I'm sure weren't double fried as the inside of the chunkier ones weren't that soft. The service depending on who you got I reckon. Still worth a visit for a pint and soaking in the place.
