Nice place to grab nice craft and strong beers, very nice service and excellent food . A weekend visit to this place for some relief from work is a must if you are staying in Brentford
Great Full English Breakfast!. I did an online search for places in Vauxhall that served a good English Breakfast and I just happened upon the Black Dog. I'm from Massachusetts, and there is a Black Dog which is pretty well known. I didn't know there was a Black Dog in London, and I doubt they are connected, but maybe they are.
It was a walkable distance from my hotel, so I went there while I was in London for a few days. I have never had a Full English Breakfast before, and this experience did not disappoint. It was delicious. I have never had blood sausage before, and I was thoroughly impressed. I was expecting a mouth full of iron and hemoglobin, but it was actually quite tasty. I don't know why fried tomatoes aren't on the breakfast menu in the states, but they should be!
The service was very good. They also have free wifi, which is a huge plus.
My biggest complaint about this place...WHY ISN'T IT OPEN ON SATURDAY?????
The Black Dog is the best kept secret of Vauxhall and seems to only ever have locals. And for good reason! This gastro-pub has some of the best traditional pub food I've had in London! Their Sunday roast is a thing of beauty!
Besides amazing food, the decor and layout of this pub make it really special. There is an amazing stain-glass window over the bar, an exposed kitchen and lots of charming details. Having the exposed kitchen means that the smell of amazing food emanates the pub at all times...it is virtually impossible to get a pint without getting something to eat because it all smells too good!
Great little locals pub that served as a respite from the 'eclectic' odd menu at the Park Plaza Riverbank hotel. Just a short two block walk away to a real neighborhood away from the glitzy glamour of the hotel scene. Our waiter was super friendly and fun.
This is a nice neighborhood pub with all of the normal offerings. The beer garden is a nice place to sit and enjoy the weather while havi by a few drinks and food with friends.
They don’t serve Sunday roast on football game day. The staff are friendly and nice. I like their food and it’s good.
Food was great 👍🏼 however the service was bit slow and took some.. time to wait for the dishes. Nevertheless, everyone left happy and found prices very reasonable so definitely will come back and try other/new dishes 👌🏼
Try waffle nachos for sharing - you won’t regret 🤤
Happened to find this place just blocks from my hotel... Local pub with local people. A great find! No tourists and authentic atmosphere. Fish and chips were fabulous, ales excellent!
Hands down, the best fish and chips I've ever had! My husband and I had a delightful night out at the Black Dog on a Friday evening. The pub's decor was cozy and interesting with vintage ephemera. My husband had the fried chicken appetizer, and our server suggested the Manchego cheese with honey and rosemary (which I devoured...). The fish and chips were just perfect and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the summer greens risotto. Love Love Love!! Thank you Black Dog!
Amazing pub with greats of locals and a great selection of beers on tap and cask, as well as some real cider.
The menu was really varied, with awesome options for meat and veggies
Had a great sunday roast here a few weeks ago, would defernetly go again. Really friendly staff and fast service.
Great pub!
The service and food are both awesome.
We had the Sunday roast and the risotto - both amazing!
Gluten free and vegetarian options available.
A terrific place for a Sunday roast. Lots of windows so nice and bright during winter. The roasts are all generous serves and meat nice and pink which is not easy when turning out lots of meals. The staff were friendly and attentive when we went, and it was very busy. A great choice in beers. Very good for groups of all sizes and kid and dog friendly. Very impressed they do not charge for bringing a birthday cake. We celebrated a friends birthday and they served out the cake we bought as a surprise after we had eaten. They have a compact but charming beer garden out the back with lots of plants and heaters. Thank you for looking after us and our 17 month old son gives a big thumbs up too.
Stopped by for a few beers and visit with friends. Convenient to nearby IHG Staybridge hotel. Excellent beer and friendly welcoming service. Recommended.
Some of the best Fish and Chips I've had in GB. Try their pickled pepper appetizer along with a Black Dog pint or 2.
Great little find, tucked out of the way but only a short walk from the embankment. Went back most nights, steak was lovely. Friendly staff and atmosphere
🚇 Vauxhall
🍺 £6.20 Estrella
❤️ An upbeat Gastro set in an tranquil backstreet in Vauxhall.
.
The Black Dog is located in a peaceful backstreet opposite Vauxhall pleasure gardens. Getting here is easy with Vauxhall station just a five minute walk away.
.
This pub started life as a mineral water factory back in 1860. More recently, the pub went under renovation back in 2010 and is now a popular destination for quality beer and food.
.
The decor is simple with some standout touches throughout. The back bar area has a beautiful fan detail on it and the copper pendants add a contemporary edge to this traditional pub.
.
The beer choice is a combination of craft and mainstream beers, there are three cask options available for the real ale drinkers. Today’s tipple was a pint of Estrella, it was an enjoyable pint and just over average price. The food menu is full of pub classics and some Mediterranean inspired dishes, fish & chips costs £14 and roasts are available on a Sunday.
.
I visited mid afternoon on a Saturday and the place was packed inside and out. The atmosphere here was great and there was a real buzz all around. The service was good, even though the team behind the bar were very busy I didn’t have to wait long to be served.
.
The @theblackdogvauxhall is an excellent Gastro set in peaceful surroundings and is an enjoyable place to spend to time in. The beer choice was good and the food is clearly a hit with the punters, I must come back and try the Barnsley chop.

Had a great time at the Black Dog as per usual. It had been a couple of months since I last visited and was pleased to see additions to the menu! The food was great and the service, especially from the blonde server, was friendly as ever. The only disappointment was the possible change to music? I understand the need to create a “vibe” but this is missing the mark and the old stuff was better…
The food was tasty and a good portion size too. At £19 for the poussin with green beans and parmentier potatoes, I felt it was a little over priced which is one of the reasons I didn’t give 5 stars. It’s a really nice pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly but a little slow at times and didn’t check to see if we were ok/needed anything after serving our meal.
Fab service - friendly, chatty and attentive. We enjoyed the T-bone steak deal with chimmichurri sauce. Good atmosphere as it wasn't loud and one could talk at normal volume and hence enjoy the company and food.
Between 2 of us we had 4 dishes and every single one was memorable in its own right! As a chef who works in flavour science this was exceptional food. Just goes to show that presentation isn’t key in food but flavour is always what stands out! And the flavours here were spot on. 👍🏽 hats off to the chef!
