My friend and I we were walking the streets of Carnaby, really craving burgers and we found this cute little burger place. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken with sweet potato fries and the star shaped cheese was the best part for me 😍

Overall a 4/5 since we stumbled across this place accidentally and it didn’t disappoint

Had stumbled upon this restaurant while walking across Soho in search for some staple food ( i.e a good burger) and oh boy we realized what a goldmine we had hit.
Their signature burgers were just too good - especially the veg burger with Halumi is a must try.

Bonus - we got a chance to see Candice Swanepoel walk by !!

Went here with a friend after looking for a restaurant for ages and got seated quickly and served quickly. Incredible food. The burgers were to die for. I could go here again and eat till I couldn’t eat anymore. The chilli cheese fries were incredible, with actual cheese and beautifully cooked meat. Although it’s just a tiny nook in Soho, it’s just incredible and I would go here again and again!

Absolutely love love love this place!

As soon as you enter, you feel like you are in Hawaii! The décor and ambience of the restaurant is wonderful! Love how there are small, separate cabin huts available for seating.

Staff is super friendly, as well, and their prices are affordable.
The only downside would be that it gets a little cramped inside when there is a crowd as the area is small.

I would recommend the ALT Burger with their Sweet Potato Fries; their fries are one of the best I have had. Also am a big fan of their milkshakes.

Mine and my partners favourite place to go and have lunch. We go there ATLEAST once a month. The staff there are super friendly and the restaurant itself is warm and cozy. I wish the restaurant was a little bigger though coz when it gets packed it gets a little cramped. Other than that I can't fault this place.

Once you get in here. You will be transported to hawaii, You only miss the flowers neckless. The space is really cozy and warm, the staff is kind and helpful and the food is great. There is only one thing, the diference between the two burguer sizes is very small só the smallest one is the better choise. They also have great artesanal beer, with fresh and fruty flavours.

I love Kua'Aina and aways go for the teriyaki chicken and pineapple sandwich on wholemeal bread, it's so good! The chicken is juicy and the portion is generous. This time I tried the sweet potato fries, and was surprised to find they were salted - which was actually pretty tasty! Service is friendly and prices are reasonable. My only criticism is how cramped it is inside.

The best part about working in Soho is that you can just step out of your office and let the aromas lead you to your lunch. With just burgers on our mind and #zomato to guide us, we chances upon this Hawaiian place tucked away near cranberry street. My friend opted for the cheese burger while I went for the popular avocado and bacon burger . The sweet potato fries were too tempting to resist. And to beat the summer, a smoothie and a chocolate milk shake. The first bite of a burger decides the tone always. It also helped that they put the upper part of the bun aside so that you can choose to eat some stuff by itself. Medium done meat, lovely bacon and avocado to add to the flavour was such a perfect combination. You must however not miss the sweet potato fries at any cost. The chocolate milkshake served in milk bottles was the most refreshing thing for the highest London temperatures in a long time. The bill for two - £30

Went here on an off chance. Pleasantly surprised I must say, portion sizes are very generous and very happy but genuine staff. None if this overly happy fake stuff. Very cute interior downstairs where we sat was lovely really had a authentic feel. The haiwaiian radio station they have playing helps too! Overall great for a lunch time meal for all ages because hey, everyone likes burgers!!

Interesting place. I have now been a few times to Kua 'Aina. I first tried the burgers, and I must say Gourmet Burger Kitchen - watch out. These ones are fantastic I recommend the Avocado Burger.
I've also tried the sandwiches. The Teriyaki Chicken and Pineapple I would also recommend.
In general great food, really clean (you can see them cooking your food), fast service - Great place to eat.

There’s definately no shortage of burger joints in London.  Wanting to try something off the beaten track we found ourselves by Carnaby Street one day after work and decided to try Hawaiian inspired brand Kua Aina. All of the staff are kitted out with Hawaiian accessories as expected and the interior has a beach club feel. We ordered a half pound hamburger each, two bacon & cheese and one avocado & bacon topped with cheddar and Monterey jack cheese. The hamburgers are grilled and served open in a basket with lettuce, tomato and onions. When fully compiled the burgers looked too big to eat but we managed in the end. The grass fed beef is sourced from farms in the West Country and were meaty and juicy despite asking for them all to be cooked medium. To go with the burgers we ordered large skin-on and sweet potato fries. Both the varieties of fries were nice and crisp. To wash it all down we couldn’t look past the Kona Brewing Co. craft beers, we each ordered a different one including Lon

It opened in late 2012 on Foubert’s Place in Soho – a prime location just off bustling Carnaby Street. Service was very good. Without imposing a discretionary service charge, I feel the need to leave a tip. Kua’ Aina leaves a very satisfying meal over company of friends.

Little did we know later that Kua ‘Aina is part of an American chain from Hawaii. Oh well, at least it was just that one that we saw in London.

I began to obsess over pineapple burgers. Of course, it's not strictly tiki, more classic 60s North Shore Americana. And so the burger connection starts to make more sense. It's a small place, styled like a surfy beachshack with a very American grill station and no table service. It's no-nonsense burgers in diner baskets, but they also do loads of great looking sandwiches - teriyaki chicken, clubs and so forth. I had the pineapple burger with extra cheese (£8) - a 1/3 pound patty cooked medium-rare (I requested this, but they were very pleased to oblige). The meat is from Devon via Smithfield Market, and the same supplier

I stayed in Waterloo for about a week last December, and most of my time was spent around Oxford Circus and Soho, so I always checked out the Collections at Zomato to guide me to the right eateries! Having had too much Chinese food both in Manchester and London, I figured I'd need to try some burgers. This joint had amazing reviews and I must admit that part of what convinced me to try it out was the fact that it was said to be President Obama's favorite burger joint - I wanted to see, or taste rather, for myself.

After doing my Boxing Day shopping spree, I walked around a bit more and came across this place without even trying to look for it! Honest to God! Haha. I convinced my friend to join me for a burger - she really was in no mood for burgers. The place was beautifully decorated although really small. It was packed but we were seated immediately and were led to the downstairs seating area. It was decorated with vintage Hawaiian photos, and well, basically all things Hawaiian. The staff all wore beach shirts, which added to the whole vibe - for a moment I thought I was in Hawaii, then I remembered the 2'C weather outside!

I didn't even look at the menu - well, except to get my drink - as I already set my mind on the Bacon and Cheeseburger with fries and settled for a bottle of Longboard beer. My friend went for the Portobello Mushroom burger. I waited in excitement and thankfully the orders arrived pretty quickly. They serve it to you in an open sandwich form, so you get to choose how you want to eat it. I could smell that amazing smokiness from the bacon, and that charred scent off the patty. Gosh it looked beautiful, and without further ado, I quickly covered it with the top bun and sunk my teeth in the burger. Juicy, smoky, charred, flavorful, tender, Christ! It was yum! It was accompanied by fresh carrot and celery sticks on the side, just really crunchy and sweet. The fries were really crunchy and was not oily at all. I thought the burger was very well seasoned and was not greasy, either.

Overall, I thought there was a reason I found it without even looking for it. As if it called me in unconsciously, because I didn't plan on having lunch at 11AM! Haha! Price wise, I thought it was reasonable, considering you get an authentic tasting burger. Worth a try!

PS: I've also posted some non-pro photos. Trust me, the photos don't do justice to the taste!

As I love burgers and I do love avocado.. I had to try this place out. We decided to go for lunch, and as we reached the place we were welcomed warmly by a nice atmosphere.

I had one of their burgers with avocado, interesting mix. It was unusual but worth it. Refreshing, smooth ad very fulfilling. Generally not something I would eat everyday, but occasionally perfect for lunch. Go for it. I suggest the place. Prices are okay, and 15 £ for lunch are enough.

Succulent patties with running juices at the first bite, cooked to perfection (on lava stone for what's my knowledge) make Kua'Aina my favourite burger joint. When you add crunchy chips on the side and avocado in your burger, that's perfection in a basket! Highly recommended!

this is a heavenly place for burgers- and all the better if you are around carnaby street but you don't just want to rush in any pub or restaurant after office hours or a shopping day.I was not quite comfortable with the idea of pineapples and avocados in burgers - even though I would say I experiment with my food. However I was utterly delighted with the taste of both in the most popular burgers ( also got a bite of friends choices, did not eat two burgers!) do not spoil the feast by drinking coke with the burger, try the beer selections if you are not up to a pitcher of cocktails on the menu ( they don't have them without the pitchers, no single serves) If you are a small crowd, having a pitcher of cocktails would definitely accompany your mood. Fries are also ok, but nothing much unique about them. The staff is not that much focused on quick service as such but I would not say it was on the list of priorities for me.  at the end of the day, closest you can get to Hawaii on a budget, on an autumn day...

[Update]

Thumbs up for Kua'Aina, qui risque fortement de devenir mon quartier général :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aloha !!

C'est encore l'été (si si il paraît) alors direction Hawaii pour un petit burger dont vous me direz des nouvelles. (Hein? Quoi? Ah oui, c'est vrai, je vous donne des bonnes adresses sur Londres, pas Hawaii)

On recommence !

I popped in to sample their wares over a Friday lunchtime, and meet the owners, ex-Lehman Brothers staff who bailed when it all went tits up, and hold Kua'Aina's UK and European franchise licence.

Location:
The blue and white façade of Kua'Aina's cafe front, situated on Fourbert's Place off Carnaby Street, stood out like a beacon of burger-filled joy on a day marked by torrential rain and grumpy tube travellers (let's face it though, when aren't they?). The cafe itself was smaller than I'd thought, a couple of outdoor tables either side of the entrance funneled diners into a relatively narrow pass, a chiller full of Luscombe's chilled drinks on the left, to the counter where the smell of grilling meat rises from the long griddle along the back wall of the venue. I didn't explore the downstairs seating area, but there is more seating below decks.

In spite of the rain, a steady stream of customers passed me as I braved the London monsoon at an outside table, dining with a colleague from an agency next door.

Price:
Bacon Cheese Burger (1/3lb patty) with Monterey Jack cheese: £7.95, Regular fries: £1.95 = £9.90. Sweet potato wedges - £2.45.

Presentation:
Taking me straight back to the days when 1/4 chicken and chips were served a grease-proof papered basket, so arrived my Bacon Cheese Burger. Served lid-off, lettuce and tomato under the hood, chargrilled beef patty, bacon and Monterey Jack cheese on the bun base, lonely stick of carrot poking up from the side of the basket. I liked it - refreshingly different, and quite nostalgic. The regular (and pretty substantial portion) of fries also came out in a wooden bowl with greaseproof paper, and looked hot and crispy.Putting the two sides of the burger together made this, which you have to admit looks like a big wedge juicy burger goodness.

Toppings:
Good. Rashers of bacon were unsmoked, and fairly well cooked, salty but not overbearingly so. Monterey Jack cheese came unmelted which was a little disappointing, with the size of the griddle I was hoping it would be a little more melted, still it was a tasty, gummy morsel. The salad was fresh and added to the sandwich, mixing its juices with the rare-cooked patty.

Meat:
Great. I asked for my patty cooked rare and they did a pretty good job on the griddle. This was great quality meat, a mixture of fat and juice dribbled down my hand into a satisfying puddle in the bowl (which incidentally is when I worked out what the carrot was for - to cut through the grease at the end of the burger). Kua'Aina's patties are a rib/sirloin blend, and are minced and pressed by a West Country butcher, before being delivered fresh 3-4 times a week.

I was interested to find out from the owners that the meat arrives completely unseasoned, and all marinades/rubs are applied in house to the original 35 year old Kua'Aina Hawaii recipes. The seasoning on the burger patty is well balanced (all we know is it's named 'Da secret salt', and 'Da secret spray') and complements the flavour of the meat. Add a touch of chargrilling on the lava rock grill and you get a great charred BBQ taste to the whole package.

Bun:
Good. The 'Golden bun' the burgers are served with is part-brioche, part-white bap (complete with slashed valleys on top to aid the rising process), sprinkled liberally with sesame and poppy seeds, which works really well with the patty - stubbornly hanging together until the last mouthful. Apparently these buns (delivered daily from a London baker) had undergone rigorous testing to ensure disintegration was prevented under the weight of a juicy 1/2lb med-rare patty, post chargrill toasting.

Plate accessories:
Great. Full marks go to the regular fries, and the sweet potato fries. Both were cooked to within an inch of perfection - the regular fries crisp, salted, and displaying a rough, slightly sticky exterior similar to Burger King fries (the best fast food fries EVER!). The sweet potato fries were also crisp, parsnipy and totally moreish, but not as salted as the regular fries - they tasted like hot, thick Tyrrels vegetable chips. This is a very good thing.

Overall score: 8/10

I was mightily impressed with Kua'Aina, considering the ability to find bland, overpriced food in London's West End, and the close proximity to the mediocre Carnaby Burger Co. (mediocre on hearsay and to be confirmed at a later date), I wasn't expecting the quality and attention to burger detail that I found.

The one thing I would note is I didn't particularly feel the Hawaiian vibe. I can most probably boil this down to the fact that I was sat outside, in the rain, and it felt like November, but nevertheless the food was delivered quickly, the open lava rock griddle filled the place with wonderful BBQ aromas, and the burger was very tasty. At 10p shy of £10 this can't be classed as a cheap burger, but it is WELL worth a visit and I will definitely be back (next time to get my teeth round the 1/2lb option, and perhaps try to influence the addition of a spam burger...).

I work less than a minute away from this lovely little Hawaiian restaurant and have visited it quite a few times. It's definitely a favourite of mine!

Their menu ranges from breakfast favourites to amazing burgers. Kua'Aina do a mean bacon roll and pancakes that are to die for! Their pancake stacks are possibly the fluffiest and tastiest I've had!

To the burgers, and again, one of the nicest burgers in London. I often get a cheeseburger and my boyfriend goes for the bacon cheeseburger. We never leave a single bit! They also have a few tasty Hawaiian treats on the menu, including speciality burgers. My favourite thing about this restaurant is the sweet potato fries. They're hands down the best I've ever tasted.

The staff are always friendly and helpful here and the restaurant itself is like a cosy little shack with upstairs and downstairs seating. There's also a few tables outside as well.

If you're ever in or around Carnaby Street, I'd definitely recommend coming here. Good for both eating-in and taking away.

YUM YUM YUM!! Just the most delicious fresh chargrilled burgers EVER!
Grilled to your order, with any combo toppings, a vast salad instead of bun if you're off-carbs (but try the bun too - really!)
Healthy food shouldn't be this tasty! Sit back with a beer and think of Hawaii.....

The are better burger places in London. I had a cheeseburger and the cheesy fries but the cheese from the fries wasn’t good at all. And the burger was lacking something that prevented it from tasting better. My friends did like it tho so that’s why I rate this 4/4. The service was super fast though

We visited on a random weekday without a reservation. We arrived about 90 minutes before close time on a cold day. We got a chicken burger and the pineapple burger. Both were really nice! Cocktails were also pretty decent, especially for that price range. However it was pretty cold outside and they kept the door open without too much heating inside. I usually don’t enjoy my dinner too much if I have to keep on wearing my coat. It felt not too welcoming.

Amazing service, in fact one of the best serví I have ever had in a restaurant. Lovely people, a very cozy atmosphere. Food is very good but my only concern is that the beef was missing a bit more of flavour and the chips can be better quality (at least in my opinion). I really enjoyed my time here and I will definitely come back for more!!!

Came here on a Wednesday night after work with a friend. I had assumed my friend was already inside so I went in telling who appeared to be the owner that my friend was there but he told me, in a rather rude way that wasn't the case when he didn't even know who my friend was or how she looked like. I was taken aback a little by this encounter so I waited for my friend to arrive before going back in. The owner probably then felt guilty of his attitude so he came out asking me if my friend was coming soon and said he would prepare a table for us. So in terms of service I would give it a 3-star because of this interaction. Also I feel like the other waiter treated us nicer because of what happened which made me think it was a shame. On the other hand, the food was absolutely amazing! I ordered da big chief with avocado, bacon and cheese in a sesame bun with sweet potato fries on the side. Burger was cooked to perfection, not too salty with the melty cheese which was right up my alley. Together with the bacon and ripe avocado it was just the best combo a burger can offer! One thing that I thought could be improved was that they didn't toast the bun with butter so it wasn't as crusty as I expected it to be. The sweet potato fries though were extremely well done, so crispy and salted just right. I really recommend both the burger and fries. Overall it was a good experience dining in this restaurant, despite the rude service initially. I could tell the waiter who took over from the owner tried very hard to make a better impression and was very attentive when serving us so kudos to him!
