A birthday and foodie treat for my wife. As she is now four months pregnant we did not want food to be the main reason to go out and instead we wanted some form of activity. But nothing too strenuous, because she is pregnant. So after some discussion and head scratching we decided to go for a movie experience that included food.

On Wednesday evening I was very kindly invited by the team at Penguin to attend their inaugural Vegetarian Cookery Evening.  Penguin publish all sorts of wonderful cookbooks and food authors, but this was their first evening focused entirely on delicious, plant-based food.  As someone who cooks and eats a lot of veggie food, even though I do eat meat in my diet, I was very happy to go along and pick up some tips - this was especially handy ahead of National Vegetarian Week next week, when I'm going to go veggie all week long. What better way to get inspired?

There are so many fun and lovely things to do here in London. We are utterly spoiled when it comes to bars, pubs, restaurants, museums, art galleries, theatres... Naturally, when people visit from out of town it's always nice to do a few lovely things together. When my darling friend Emily said she was heading to town for a weekend and that she'd be able to stay with us and spend some time together when she wasn't otherwise engaged I was thrilled, and determined to pop a few fun things into the diary.  I love afternoon tea, as does Emily, so I started scouting around for one to attend.  I settled on the Charlotte Street Hotel, and we were able to book a table for two (thank heavens - afternoon teas can book up so quickly!  Luckily we were a good six or so weeks out).  Afternoon tea is the best time for a good old catch up while you graze on delicious sandwiches, scones and patisserie items, and as I hadn't seen Emily in person since before Christmas we had plenty to catch up on.

This place has the best breakfast. It's in a small hotel near Oxford Street. It's reasonably basic but there is something about it. Only been there for breakfast to be honest but been like 40 times and was happy with food and service each and every time. Highly recommend for a chilled breakfast

The service was ever so attentive, polite, and always adorned with a delightful smile. We felt completely at ease and thoroughly enjoyed our time in the restaurant. The ordered sushi were fresh and tasty. Fabulous desserts as well, and very interesting cocktails. We were with the child and were seated next to the kitchen, she had an enchanting experience watching the culinary magic unfold. 100% recommend and will be back for more!

Arrived early for an already early dinner booking as shown promptly to our table. Lots and lots of staff available to take drink and food orders, but more importantly answer questions about the menu. Sushi rolls came out first, followed by hot dishes. My partner didn't want a pudding, but instead another round of sushi which was accommodated by the staff. The coffee and whiskey sundae was a fantastic dessert!

Roka Charlotte Street is beautiful experience. The stunning kitchen is open plan and has a beautiful pieces of wood around it where diners can gey up close and personal with the action and chefs. The restaurant is bright and airy, there are many tables but well spaced between each other so you never feel you are encroaching on another table of diners. The food is exceptional as you would expect from a one Michelin star restaurant, everything on the menu is stunningly and lovingly made with incredible care and attention to flavour and balance. The tasting menu is a real highlight, incredibly well put together building in taste and texture and exploding in a beautiful crescendo of flavour at the end. A real highlight was Marcel, an asset to this restaurant with character and personality, knowledgeable and helpful. Watching him flit amongst the tables and work added to the experience at this restaurant. Stop reading this review and book a table. You will not be disappointed. Exceptional.

Food was incredible. The beef dumplings were the best I’ve ever had. Service was good but a couple of times felt that it could’ve been better/a little bit slow to take our initial order and when I re-ordered a second beer with my food server had to chase up as took a while. Saturday afternoon booking was 2pm sat at counter.

Came here on a busy Saturday night for my wife’s birthday. Dinner at six so we arrived at 5:40 and had a drink downstairs in the lounge beforehand. We were greeted in a very pleasant friendly manner and taken up to our table where we ordered the seasonal tasting menu. I have to say that the food was absolutely exquisite. Everything tasted beautifully fresh. It was all faultless. The highlight was the beef with padron pepper, skewer and the sashimi. There is no getting away from me, this place is hyperexpensive, but you get what you pay for.

OMG! What an out of this world dining experience!!! I’ve never had lettuce and said “Wow!” but I did here. We had the premium tasting selection. I would have provided more pictures, but my guest and I were too busy eating what was put in front of us to snap photos. If you want some place for a special occasion or simply enjoy top notch dining experiences, this is definitely the place for you. The staff was excellent as were the drinks and the food was as delicious tasting as it was beautiful to look at.

Amazing birthday dinner. Did the tasting menu and was all really good apart from salmon teriyaki which was overcooked. Cocktails were the best we have ever had.

Yes it is expensive and the service charge is nearly 15% of your bill - but the tasting menu will be a memorable experience of culinary innovation that'll make you crave for more. The venue is beautiful and the tables are spaced out enough so that you can get some actual privacy. It's a shame it's so expensive because if it wasn't, I'd go every day!

We love Roka. We ordered California Roll, mushroom maki and Chirashi maki, all the them are very decent. For grills we ordered scallops, chicken wings and lamb cutlets. Scallops are beyond excellent, would highly recommend. For drinks, we had lychee cocktails and umeshu, both are very good matching with food. Love the service, only the music was a bit too loud. Spent total £150 for two person. Definitely would come back!

Great food and service. I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere as it is quite noisy, in particular if you eat early as we did and there are children around. Fantastic meal. I would say the wagyu sashimi was misleading. It wasn't sashimi, it was more like nigiri. We did miss a couple of things from our order but actually that was fine because we were stuffed. Loved the tuna tartare and sesame spinach in particular. The black cod was outstanding.
