A little store based around authentic street food of Egypt first opened in London in 2013 serving a selection of Egyptian street food classics, both savoury and sweet.
I have not seen or experienced many Egyptian restaurants in London and really should have more of these places in London as you will truly enjoy the food.
THE FOOD:
Classic Koshari (Classic Base, Tomato Sauce, Chickpeas, Garlic Da’aa Dressing, Fried Onions, Spicy Doqqa Nut Mix) - Pot of rice and pasta with a nice zesty and spiced tomato sauce. From the website it seems this is a national dish, sold on roadside stalls and restaurants throughout Egypt, captures the heart of the nation. Well I can’t wait to go to Egypt to see how authentic this is. But a great fresh taste with enough spice and kick and full of flavour and texture.
THE VERDICT: An impressive little place to eat and enjoy the various pots on offer, the food is delicious and nutritious and you cant say that with a lot of food these days. I want to go back and try the other dishes and would be top pick for a quick bite amongst the many of the usual offerings from the chain restaurants. Highly recommended. There should be more Egyptian places to eat and I for one will be looking into this more.
We got a chance to try the Egyptian cuisine at the borough market. We tried the medium bowl of koshari combo which was koshari and balati salad. Salad with a tasty twist is what I would call it. It was a bowl of lentils, freshly cut salad, dressings and lot of condiments like fried onions. It had a lot of flavor. It had a very interesting taste and would love to eat it again.
This place is definitely worth a try, it's vegan, its healthy. If you love to try different cuisines, small portions like these is good.
This place is certainly worth a try. They have customised authentic Egyptian dishes. I ordered Koshari medium bowl. It contains lentils, rice and pasta added with sauce and fried onion. This all mixed together is really healthy but due to it's garlic sauce and the spice powder( the name I don't remember), one might not like it one go! But this place you should go if you a person who likes trying new cuisines.
Yummy yummy yummy. Yes that much :) one of the best koshari I had ever tried, fast service & friendly staff. One thing I didn't like is that the place is very small so you have to eat quickly to allow others to sit. However, your visit to London is not counted unless you tried Koshari Street so give it a try.
Delicious simple Egyptian fare that's light on the calories and the budget
*Choice of spices levels so there's something for everyone.
*Quick and cheap - the basic bowl costs 3.50 to eat in
*Layered well so there's a nice bite to it all
I absolutely love this pure carb Egyptian dish. When we lived in Egypt, this was the only local dish that we truly loved (other than fattah) as the chilli sauce is served on the side and we could up the heat quotient as much as we liked.
While it's pretty easy to make at home, it's a bit time consuming with the different pastas, lentils, pastes and fried onions that need to be prepared, so it's not something I cook frequently.
Egyptian friends in London introduced us to this place and we keep going back when we want a carby overload.
Koshari street offers a selection of chilli sauces with their kosharis and we obviously favour the king chilli - the spiciest one. Other than koshari, they just have 1-2 soups/salads/desserts and drinks on the menu.
It works well as a takeaway and can be eaten a day later too.
I always pick up an extra large container of the fried onions (they charge for it), but it saves me so much time when cooking biryanis and other Mughlai food. The onions keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.
I'm eating around the world without leaving London and this week I headed to Koshari Street for Egyptian food. Koshari is a traditional Egyptian dish that consists of rice, chick peas, macaroni and lentils topped with a (hot) tomato sauce and sprinkled with vermicelli and crispy fried onions. Allegedly it started as a leftover dish among lower class families when the cook of the house would add the week's leftover food items into one big pot. Another story is that this dish came to Egypt via India and Italy, where each country would add their favourite ingredient to it. It used to be sold on food carts in the streets, but over recent years it has turned into a very popular dish that is eaten nationwide. And now also in London. Apparently the only place that sells it here is Koshari Street which is located on St Martin's Lane. Besides koshari pots that come in small, regular and humungous, this Covent Garden lunch shop sells tabouleh and bean salads and a daily changing soup. There is also a choice of flowery desserts, which go by the memorable names of muhallabiyeh ( A rose flavoured milk pudding) and mishmishiya ( an apricot compote). Check out their economical meal deals and you've got tomorrow's lunch sorted. It's a shame they're only in Covent Garden.
Nice n nutritious wholesome vegetarian food, all-in-a-spot style. The fried onion and nutty toppings make it a perfect takeaway. They have quite a quirky selection of deserts too.
"EGYPTIAN GEM"-
A vegetarian place where non vegetarians will not miss the meat!
Came across this place while walking around Leicester Square. Having never tried Egyptian food before so was not sure what to expect.
An Egyptian street food - It's a mixture of rice, lentils, macaroni and vermicelli, with whole chickpeas, spicy tomato sauce, a spice mix with seeds, garlic vinegar and a sublime quantity of ultra-crispy caramelized fried onions, all piled into a cute tub or banana leaf .
AMBIANCE:
Its a tiny place with great value food nestled smartly among the hustle and bustle of London's busy streets. It is a small place but well run, clean and fresh looking shop. The place is faultlessly clean. They also have a loyalty card giving you a free meal after every sixth meal. We sat in, tried to fit ourselves on the stools there, little cramped and uncomfortable but the food in the tubs makes it all well to go.
FOOD:
Honestly speaking it sounds quite weird- pasta+lentils+tomato+rice- but to my surprise it was YUMMY and quite appetizing. The ingredients are sourced straight from the farms of Europe and thus have that authentic flavour and taste . the sauce they use is simply incredible! They also serve soups and healthy juices in several options. Tried Molokeya- a potato based veg soup- something different and awesome in taste!
SERVICE:
The staff were amazingly knowledgeable and passionate about the food on offer and explained the concept, ingredients, etc. Very quick and prompt service.
COST:
Too cheap for the food !!!
FINAL VERDICT
Can be a good choice for a quick and healthy and take away meal.
Just don't afford to miss it !!!
Highly recommended :)
Simple yet cozy atmosphere!
I loved koshari, it was my first time eating it. My husband ordered the traditional koshari whereas I ordered with chicken and lamb. Btw meat is halal.
Small seating area is available inside but WC isn't available.
Stopped by Koshari Street near Covent Garden and was blown away by their Classic Koshari bowl - a delightful mix of grains, chickpeas, and crispy onions with a zesty tomato sauce. Highly recommended Truly the best Egyptian street food in an amazing location!
Delicious koshary! I would personally add a little bit more tomato sauce, because that’s how I make it at home, but it was great anyway.
This place is definitely worth visiting, especially if you miss or want to try the egyptian flavours.
Really enjoyed the koshari here, would say it’s quite an authentic taste. Have recommend to my friends!
Warm and convenient food, the base is a mixture of rice and mini macaroni, and the sauce is a little sour
Great meal deal options, we tried classic kushari bowl, chicken shawerma and beef bowls. Classic kushari is a winner
Fantastic healthy vegan food and really friendly. Very reasonably priced for London - £10.75 for Koshari bowl, salad and drink. Would definitely come back.
Delicious Egyptian spot with brilliant service and very tasty food.
Shout out to the extra smooth hummus (not in picture) too.
Great for breakfast (new menu), lunch or dinner and some seats inside too
Incredible flavors, simple decor, cozy interior
My only regret about this place is I wish they were bigger and had more space inside! The flavor & spice combinations are incredible and feel homey (having Egyptian & Lebanese family, this feels just like something they would've made for me)
It's a cute, cozy place, and you really can't go wrong with any of their options. I'd very gladly come again to try more of their options and can't wait for next time!

One of best Koshari joint in Covent Garden London. I was not a fan of Koshari in my resident country. But this place changed my taste in all means. Its a small shop in the street, but selling one of the best Egyptian food.
Amazing gem in the heart of London for a hearty, delicious, healthy meal. I tried koshari for the first time in Cairo some years ago, and this takes it to another level! Cherry on the cake is the friendly and dedicated team that works there :) looking forward to trying out the other options in my next visit!
Absolutely delicious koshari— a must try if you haven’t had it before! I’ve had koshari in Cairo and homemade by my friend from Egypt. So glad to find Koshari Street so I can enjoy this in London!
A very quick, and satisfying, meal. I will happily return before or after a show.
Closest thing you could get to authentic Egyptian Koshari in London. I’ve had homemade ones and they’re out of this world so trying this satisfied my cravings but it’s not to die for. Would dine here if im craving!
Koshari street is my favourite lunch spot and it never fails to deliver on taste - in fact it’s so good the whole office is now hooked! Love the meal deals with a drink and salad and can’t recommend the Chermoula chicken bowl enough which is full of flavour and texture plus good for you too!
I've had enough of oversized and overpriced burgers. What I want is something filling and healthy. A bowl of koshari fits the bill. Cheaper too. I'd definitely be back. More traditional variations would be nice. None of the wokey vegan options like quinoa for me.
I was walking along the street and I turned to look inside it because it had a Chipotle type vibe. Said eat like an Egyptian so I wanted to give it a try. Tried the plant power koshari and the classic koshari, and the woman working was incredibly helpful with the sauces and vege options! I will definitely return the ingredients were so fresh!
