Reviews Da Mario Kensington

After visiting the Covent Garden branch, I just had to go to the O.G South Kensington branch that Princess Diana loved so much. It was the perfect place to meet my favourite girlfriend after such a long time. I heard Princess Diana loved the pizzas here so I had to try. First dish is the veg pasta, this was delicious. The pasta tasted fresh, I assume it was homemade, and it was so well-cooked. It was flavoured well and the portion was decent, very filling. Although it looks simple, the flavour was amazing.

A beautiful Italian restaurant.
Everything is so delicious and well served. I end up ordering practically half the menu when I’m there because i simply cant choose.
The place has history. It’s full of pictures on the wall of all the celebrities that have been there and loved the place just like i do.
Definatly recommend.

This place is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Whenever I'm in London I have to eat there. The food is great. Great price to quality. And the staff is friendly.

Friendly Neighbourhood Pizzeria. Three words that can easily sum up this restaurant. Though it is more than just that. One of the few London restaurants one can easily drive to anytime as there is ample parking if you are a RBKC resident. And if you're not then there's ample Single yellows outside for parking if you go for dinner. There is an old claim that this was one of Princess Diana's favourite haunts. And indeed a sign outside proclaims this very point.

The place is a two floor affair. The top(ground floor) is small and fills up fast so downstairs (basement) is where I've sat every time.

The service is friendly and fast. But not the most attentive. Since it's not fine dining they can get away with it. But a little more attentiveness wouldn't go amiss.

The food is if course the highlight. This is a pizzeria serving food mainly from Naples. This means the menu whilst not small is limited in range. Starters, Pizzas, Pastas and a couple of fish dishes make up most if not all of the menu. Culinary specialities from other regions are also conspicuous by their absence. No Bolognese or Pesto in sight. The only disappointment is because the rest of their food is so good, one wonders how good these ghost dishes can be.

Onto the food they actually serve. They have an excellent garlic bread. It is very garlicky though so for those who don't like garlic might be worth ordering something else. Pizzas are great. Well sized for one person and cooked to perfection. They have a decent variety of pizzas. They have plenty of Vegetarian options and offer gluten free and Halal options as well. I had an American hot with slight modifications. And it was great. Just the right amount of heat and crispy with a slight doughy tang that it should have. The others had a prosciutto de Parma. (Apparently specially flown in for Da Mario.) It was certainly worthy of the menu. Buffalo Mozzarella Fantasia was great. Very fresh cheese shows the terai rant cares about it's ingredients.
We had a couple of desserts. The Tiramisu here is very good. They manage to get the texture right which is quite hard it seems as not many place get that right. It's always great. Though the last time the lady's fingers needed a bit more soaking as the coffee twang was slightly short.
They also have great ice cream. I know its probably not in house so they may not get credit for making it. But I feel it was great so warranted a mention. Taste was spot on and the texture which again is very hard to get was excellent. It obviously wasn't just a random ice cream brand which again shows the restaurant cares about the ingredients and products they buy.

I would definitely recommend!

Princess Di used to frequent this restaurant with her 2 young sons. We enjoyed our meal. I got the impression that these are professionals running the place. I would definitely return to test it again. 👍🏻

200% recommended! Talking about bringing you to Italian with food, they are professional! The squid ink spaghetti just slap the sea smell right on your face, not to mention the giant 300g king prawn. Ending with the mean with the homemade Tiramisu is without doubt the best choice. Next time in London, I will for sure visit again! Side tip, remember to get a reservation ;)

What an AMAZING experience tonight! Fabiana made us feel like we were home!! She was so cheerful and lovely. Best “hidden menu” carbonara we’ve ever had. It was my birthday and they played “happy birthday” over the speakers and the whole restaurant sang and clapped for me! We’re already planning out next meal there ❤️

Food is great! The services is good but the basement dinning environment is a bit too nosey from my point of view. The pasta spaghetti and tiramisu are amazing as usual. Highly recommend maybe outdoor dinning than indoor. If you have to have it indoor maybe better to have it at the ground floor rather than basement. Food wise just order what ever you want would be good. Price is also very reasonable. 4 people around £120. Worth to dine in. Highly recommend place

This was a really lovely and authentic Italian restaurant. They do get busy so it’s best to come during off peak times to avoid having to wait long, as they don’t take reservations. The food was absolutely scrumptious, our waitress was also very lovely and helped make our experience more enjoyable. Will definitely be going back to try more things on the menu.

Highly recommend! Telephone number not working so email to reserve! We had limoncello, tiramisu and Rigatoni da mario. I enjoyed the main more than dessert as the flavours were strong and complementary. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Restaurant was clean with Mario's (founder) and Princess Diana pictures framed on the wall. The photography added to the ambience if that is of interest! Prices are reasonable for the location I highly recommend 💎

What do you do when you’re starving with your best friend traveling London? You start googling restaurants. We found this restaurant in desperation looking for good quality tasting food. The reviews were wonderful so off to the tube we went. The wait was short because it was a Sunday. However book ahead because this place always has a line according to the staff. We got two appetizers, two entrees, and even desert. FABIANA was our waitress and she was absolutely incredible. If you want authentic quality food with amazing staff this is your place. FABIANA will take care of you.

I am a big fan of Princess Diana so thought I must give this place a go. I know there's usually a queue at peak hours so I went after a bbc prom at almost 10 pm. I was offered a table straight away. I can tell this is a restaurant that is earnest to serve decent food, but it unfortunately falls short of Italian standard in terms of flavor. I ordered the classic seafood spaghetti. Upsides: 1. the spaghetti is thinner than most restaurants and I like thin noodles. 2. There are lots and lots of seafood, especially given the relatively modest price of £18.5 Drawbacks: 1. There were sands in the mussels, multiple of them 2. The king prawns were a bit overcooked and therefore dry 3. Most importantly, you'd expect the spaghetti to absorb all the flavors of the seafoods and tomato sauce and therefore full of umami. However somehow the spaghetti felt oily but doesn't have a lot of seafood taste. Maybe they were cooked separately and mixed together too late? The atmosphere feels nice and homey with many celebrities pictures on the wall. Price was also very reasonable. It's a shame that the spaghetti wasn't as good as I expected, otherwise it'd have been a perfect restaurant to go to after every prom!

An excellent choice for those craving authentic Italian food. One of princess Diana favorite restaurants. A good range of options to choose from. Pizzas and pastas available.

An authentic Italian restaurant serving tasty classics in a lively, atmospheric dining room. Nicely busy on a Tuesday evening. Great option before events at the Royal Albert Hall. I had the seafood pizza. Generous serving of seafood on top of a thin-base which was well cooked. A touch on the smaller side but that was the only minor negative. Tried my friend’s pasta (Da Mario special) which was also good. House red wine excellent and value for money at £21. They have several tables outside on a partly-pedestrianised part of the street.

Overall food and service were fantastic, and the seafood risotto was a definite highlight, pleasing our entire table. The desserts didn't quite live up to our expectations. The tiramisu and in-house ice cream were just alright and didn't leave a lasting impression. We wished we had ordered another main instead, the overall experience was enjoyable.

So, so good! The food was excellent, service was efficient and the whole place has a good, tradicional vibe. We particularly loved the Da Mario pasta. Prices are very reasonable for London, and the value for money is excellent. We will probably be back.

We shared 2 starters and had some wine and 3 mains . Also we shared their Tiramisu.m MAIN Squid ink pasta was beautifully made, fresh and jumbo prawn came with it. Seafood pasta tasted good and had so much seafood we were confused ( in a good way) Pizza was decent 👍🏼 TO SHARE DESSERT (you may choose not to) Tiramisu - amazing light fluffy alcoholic and coffee smell ... I think I've died and went to tiramisu heaven. Presentation don't look great but it took us less than 1 minute to devour all of that tiramisu 9.5/10

The food was quite nice with a pleasant atmosphere. Our waiter was also very friendly and the food came quickly. However personally I think there are better Italian restaurants in London!
