Reviews Lanes Of London

As Christmas lights are being switched on across the city and excitement builds around TV adverts and shop windows, one of my favourite indulgences are the various festive afternoon teas on offer, often as a reward from a rather hectic afternoon shopping along Oxford Street. Lanes of London, by Marble Arch, has launched their festive afternoon tea, with a menu featuring traditional sandwiches, alpine-themed pastries, teas and prosecco. For £49, you get all of the mentioned, but with unlimited prosecco for 2 hours, which is a great deal in my books.

I consider afternoon tea a very decadent treat, normally reserved for special occasions.  So when I was asked to review tea at Lanes of London to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday, that felt like just the excuse I needed!. Lanes is situated just off of Park Lane, opposite Marble Arch tube.  It is also very close to Oxford Street and should you want to make your day extra decadent, you could partake in some serious retail therapy before immersing yourself in the lovely wood panelled dining room for some sweet treats.  Unlike some hotels in this vicinity, there are no stuffy dress codes and you can dress up or down as much as you feel comfortable with.

Gosh it's been a while since I've reviewed a restaurant. Frankly, I'm not nearly enough of a food trainspotter - trying to think of a portmanteau - 'grainspotter'? - to form an opinion that anyone might find useful, as most of the time I kind of like pretty much anything as long as a. it's served nicely, b. I'm in a place I like the look of, and c. I'm drunk enough. So I tend of leave the ham reviewing to the others. Well, since the recent blaggergate hoo-haa, I thought it only fair I should jump on the bandwagon and take advantage of the golden dripping honeypot that is freebieland and wave the flag for the good old hard-blagging blogger.   Lanes of London is of course the very place that started the most recent blagger storm: Jay Rayner's rant at 'effing blogger' @samphireandsalsify ended with his claim that their review of Lanes couldn't possibly be impartial. Well, it seemed the best option to go back to the very place and give it my own review. And it wouldn't be a food blog revie

The menu at Lanes of London is a mixture of British classics and London inspired street food. You can either have a mixture of smaller plates such as fried chicken wings, fish and chips, marinated barbecue skewers or mac and cheese. Then the larger mains include filling choices such as buttered chicken, sirloin steak and roast wild cod.

Very good service, nice decor lovely staff. The masal chips with curry sauce rather interesting wasn't disappointed and the cappuccino with chocolate powder was nice. The music in background just right not loud and at last a place where you can hear yourself think. I like the atmosphere of the place and the menu is reasonable highly recommended

At least once a week I see a tweet asking for recommendations of where to go for a family meal. There are usually fussy parents involved, who’ve travelled down from a far away sleepy town. They’re not ‘ready’ for the kind of food London has to offer, leaving their offspring exasperated and out of options that will please everyone.

Step forward Lanes of London, a new concept (yes, I know what you’re thinking, but do keep reading). This new restaurant on Park Lane (don’t let that scare you either) has designed a menu serving up sharing dishes covering four of London’s food districts. There’s Brick Lane (Indian) Kingsland Road (Vietnamese) Edgware Road (Lebanese) and Portobello Road (British classics).

A very nice restaurant with extremely reasonably priced food. So very nice and quiet. The waiter was extremely attentive but not bothersome. We started with appetizers (pan seared scallops & a lobster and prawn croquette). Beautiful presentation (forgot to snap pictures) and very flavorful. Would definitely order them again! We both ordered the Fish & Chips and I have to say, they were some of the best I’ve ever had in London over the years. Huge chunks of white fish with a breading that was neither too thick nor too thin that had a fantastic CRUNCH! The mushy peas were flavored with an herb mixture. The chips (French Fries for us Americans) were very good. Perfectly fried. We were so full we had to skip deserts, but plan to come back to try their offerings which I have no doubt will also impress. Give this place a try…you won’t be disappointed.

Was shopping in Mayfair area and had strong eager to have afternoon tea so we called the lanes of London if there’s any seat available. Fortunately there is! We had afternoon tea with bubble. The sweets were amazing though it was not unlimited supply. Overall it was a good experience. Highly recommended!

Came here for afternoon tea before our spa treatments. Had a great time in this wonderful hotel restaurant. The service was immaculate - the servers explained everything to us thoroughly and were accommodating to my allergies and teetotal lifestyle. Loved the concept of the afternoon tea: a walk through Hyde Park. I've definitely had a better tasting afternoon tea, but I appreciate the thought and craftsmanship behind the one offered here, even if the execution wasn't perfect. Overall, if you get the chance to have afternoon tea here before your spa, go for it!

We were here for afternoon tea. The food was beautifully presented and the staff was very kind. The scones and the savoury were very good. The pastries were just very sweet and didn’t taste like very much.

We had such a lovely time visiting lanes of London for a late lunch a couple of weeks ago. The lady who I believe is the manager of the restaurant is always so welcoming and friendly…she remembers us every time we visit. She helped us with menu choices and made us feel at home. Our lunch was made even more enjoyable with a complimentary drink to welcome us back. This was much appreciated and a very kind gesture. The food was delicious as always and the service fantastic. We look forward to visiting again.

One of my favourite hotels in London, I frequently pop in for meetings or if I want a quiet drink, Sunday dinner or with my laptop to do some work. I must say, I would come strictly for the sticky toffee pudding because this place had the best sticky toffee pudding but it's gone proper downhill. The shell used to be much crunchier and it was just different, now its soft and not the same. They've completely changed the ingredients of the shell. Wouldn't order it anymore. I've had dinner here several times, had salmon, roast dinners, burger & chips or I'll come and just grab some bar bites, i.e. mini burgers / arancini / chips etc, but I came for dinner a few months back and had the miso salmon which was not nice at all - gets a bit sickening after. All in all, my favourite spot in London, will return again and again and again and again. Only recommendation that I would recommend is some charging points near the seating areas as there is very limited seating with a plug point.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Botanical Afternoon Tea with bottomless bubbles here last week. Lanes has a perfect location being just a couple of minutes walk from Marble Arch tube station and across the road from Hyde Park (lovely for walking off their generous afternoon tea!) Service from all of the staff was exceptional. Tea menu is extensive, even for the pickiest of tea connoisseurs. Sandwiches were fresh and inventive, we especially loved the use of the specialty breads which made them a little more special than your average afternoon tea offering. Scones were some of the best we’ve ever tasted and the cakes were delicate morsels from heaven. All in all, a wonderful experience where you’re made to feel very special by the fantastic staff. Thank you to all of the team- we will definitely be back xxx

After an amazing stay at the London Marriott Park Lane, we ended our weekend with afternoon tea at Lanes of London. Highly recommend! It was very tasty, creative, and was complimented with 3 different tea selections!

Absolutely fantastic experience of a traditional quaint, but modern British afternoon tea. A plethora of teas, beautiful decor, and stunning food. Some of the flavours and creative foods from edible flower pots to twisted cucumber sandwiches only added to the affair. The tableware was amazing and to top it all off we were treated to alluring love harp music. 5 out of 5.

Came here for afternoon tea. Being a chain brand my expectations weren't the highest. I was wrong selection of teas and coffee were fantastic. The afternoon tea had plenty of small desserts, they were all splendid, although definitely cater to the sweeter tooth. Overall great service and lovely afternoon tea.

Afternoon is the best I've had so far. Unlimited tea. You can literally try every single tea, if you wanted. The food and pastries all tasty and fresh. Nicely balanced flavours. The only thing is I wish the scones came out warm. Cold scones aren't the best. Well present too. Staff are very good. Attentive and friendly. There was live music when we went, which is lovely. All this for an amazing price!
