Reviews Apulia

We decided to share some starters: the octopus carpaccio, the antipasti platter, and the oven-baked caciocavallo cheese. Our first choice had actually been the burrata (a relatively new discovery for me, and one perpetuated by my trip to Rome), but unfortunately, they had run out. A reason to go back, I think…

The atmosphere and decoration is very nice with a Mediterranean freshness and a touch of vintage feel with the grocers bicycle and recycled bottles as a light.  Apulia is by far my favourite Italian restaurant around smithfield market, it used to be my plan B when was leaving around and had nothing in the fridge.
Now I have moved to Oval, but I am still a loyal customer at Apulia. Because it is sometimes difficult to get a table (without a booking) at night, I always go at lunch time now when I am in the area.
They have nice fresh products, the food is fantastic and pizzas are very good. Waiters and waitresses are always nice and welcoming. It always feels like being at home when I dine there.

It is for sure my favourite place to have a two course lunch for £10 around smithfield market. Quick service perfect for a hour lunch break and food is fantastic.

Few months ago, the old site of Morgan M became the Italian restaurant, Apulia . Since they opened, I have been twice.  The atmosphere and decoration is very nice with a Mediterranean freshness and  a touch of vintage feel with the grocers bicycle and recycled bottles as a light.   First time I visited Apulia, I had pizzas with a friend, both pizza where very nice. I like the fact on their menu they serve original pizza with ingredients you won't find in every pizzeria. I remember they also have special pizza everyday on a board. Prices for a large pizza are between £8 for the classic Margherita to £14 for the most expensive like the Sammichele.  Margherita tomato, mozzarella, basil, extravirgin olive oil Sammichele (white pizza) mozzarella, porcini, red onion, walnuts  The second time I went to Apulia, I had dinner with my neighbours, we all ordered Brasciole Della Nonna Con Orechiette (£10), apart for one of us who ordered  Zampone Con Lenticchie (£8). We were all agree to say that Brascio

This is the cutest, most heart-warming place this side of Italy. Apulia lies on the fringe of Farringdon meat market and serves up simple but delicious dishes all cooked up with the love of every Italian grandma.

Choose your starter from burrata, stuzzicoso, bruschetta and prosciutto di parma and enjoy with a glass of prosecco.

And then the real feast begins. It's genuinely hard to choose from the array of comforting delights on offer: artisan ravioli stuffed with ricotta and mushrooms, served with sausage, cherry tomato and pecorino cheese, spaghetti alle vongole and risotto with asparagus with sicilian king prawns, believe it or not, all had to give way to bigger and better options.

To whet the appetite, we indulged in a margherita pizza to share and then picked the ravioli ricotta and truffle with portobello mushroom, sage and grana cheese which was rich and indulgent.

The stracetti ai funghi is an original choice: beef strips with mushrooms and capers in a creamy butter and lemon sauce served with whole red rice with onions and 'escrolls' - and if you know what they are, you're one step ahead of me.

And for my personal favourite, the tagliatelli with king prawns, pesto and crushed cashew nuts. Creamy, decadent and delightfully tasty.

And there's a delicious selection of desserts to top off a perfect, homely meal. Uncomplicated, unspoiled Italian food at its very best.

Wallet damage: 2 courses + wine = £30/person
Vibe: your grandma's kitchen
Booking policy: they take 'em - hurrah!

Really nice authentic Italian place with super fast and attentive service. They have a couple vegetarian options on the menu but also have a vegan menu if you ask. Depending on the dish they can make minor changes and they were helpful with arranging a little candle and dessert for one of the group members birthdays which was really nice! The interior decor is really nice too which really brings in the vibe of the restaurant!

My Italian friend living in the UK recommended us (large group of speakers of a conference) to go here. We booked a table for ten (later extended to 13 without a problem). The food and pizza were delicious. Atmosphere was great and so was the staff. Really good authentic Italian restaurant!

Lovely restaurant, setting very reminiscent of Pulgia. Great selection of traditional foods and wines. Catered very well to our large group of 10.

This place is absolutely lovely! We came here on a rainy day and didn’t want our umbrellas to drip all over the place, and the servers very kindly kept them for us. The menu offers a very good variety and is small enough to reassure you that the food is fresh. Our table ordered the truffle ravioli, the fish and mussels and clams, and a margarita pizza. For dessert, we had the tiramisu, and the coconut and pineapple panna cotta. Everything was very delicious and the service was immaculate!

A really great Italian restaurant. My courses: 1. Bombette Pugliese, this was absolutely delicious and hit the spot immediately..The portion was spot on and didn't make me full like starters often do. 2. Orrechiette, which was the perfect portioning of pasta and greens, with some delicious anchovies to round everything out. 3. Panna cotta... the only let down sadly. Not as soft and creamy as expected, but delicious nonetheless! Was served promptly and the interior vibe was great.

I booked this restaurant for a team dinner of around 35 people as we wanted to spend some time together. The booking started off with 30 people and Alfonso the restaurant manager was very helpful when it came down to last minute additions. The food was amazing and great wine choices, coupled with a lovely atmosphere in their private dining room downstairs! Would definitely go there again, as a group or just for a nice romantic dinner. 10/10 would recommend

I had made a reservation here for a family group of seven after an event close by. Although we arrived to the restaurant half an hour early, we were promptly seated and accommodated. The food was delicious, everyone was saying so, although pasta portions were rather on the smaller side. We waited quite a while for food to come out, but I understand this was to have everyone's dish come out at the same time, which was appreciated.

We came here for a friend's birthday dinner on Saturday night and the atmosphere is more chill and the food was mostly good. Some of our favourites were the ravioli, trofiette with pumpkin cream and guanciale, tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffle, seabass fillet and diavola pizza. The service was attentive but polite.

We found that the restaurant accommodated a large group well. Food was good overall, especially the focaccia. Disappointed with the ortolana pizza as it had very small pieces of tasteless aubergine rather than larger roasted aubergine slices. I therefore felt it was expensive for an average tasting pizza. They served us bottled water, olives and sides of bread without us asking and these were charged on the bill. Not complaining as we didn’t challenge them on it / we accepted the food and water, but just something for others to be aware of.

Honestly, mixed reviews about this place. Ordered the duck ragu pasta and octopus ragu - both were quite disappointing where the pasta were overcooked and not “al dente” as I usually like if. Both of the ragu were not flavourful - lacked salt!! For close to 20 pounds per dish, it was not worth it :( 2/5 For dessert, I had tiramisu. Loved the cream but it was too much, the ratio of cream to sponge fingers were all off. 4/5 As the night went by, my friend and I craved pizza and ordered the one with truffle, burrata and cured meat! Shocking as it seems, it was fantastic. There was a perfect balance of creaminess, saltiness, crusty. Would definitely recommend it! 5/5 Note: everything is quite pricey except the pizza! In conclusion, skip pasta and dessert and just stick to the pizzas :) Stay for the cozy vibes

Loved the atmosphere and setting - a beautiful establishment and very friendly staff. Food was great, very flavourful and came out hot. Only complaint we had was we'd rather fresh ingredients on the pizza rather than tinned, but it all still tasted good.

Very nice Italian restaurant next to Smithfield market and down the road from the Barbican. The food and service was really good. We received good wine recommendations (for those not familiar with Italian wines). The burnt pecorino cake on the pasta was a nice touch. The restaurant felt spacious.
