Great value food and always super tasty.

You don't come here for the service, but the food and prices make up for it.

Mixed grill is fantastic and curries are great.

I was lucky to get a table as it was fully booked for the evening, the service from start to end was outstanding, the food was by far the best I have ever had in any Indian restaurant worldwide and by far the best restaurant in SW London! I will definitely book to go back very soon to try more from the menu. Such a great find and luckily for me its just down the road from home!

Went here last Sunday with a bunch of friends for the first time. It's absolutely amazing. Authentic Goan curries. Loved it. We ordered the Goan style fish curry, Pork vindaloo, coconut rice, dal and Gallina Chicken. Pork vindaloo was the best of the lot. The dal and rice were pretty nice too. Must try for Indian food lovers.

The food, ambiance and service exceed that of any Indian I have ever been to; did I mention they have Kingfisher on tap? Once featured on a BBC show about traditional Indian cooking

I'm an idiot. Now I know this isn't news to those who know me, but really I am. Since moving to London, many moons ago, I have never lived more than thirty minutes away from Ma Goa . Yet over the years, I've only eaten at this superior Indian restaurant on a handful of occasions. This despite really enjoying every meal I've ever eaten there. Yes, I'm an idiot. This Putney veteran has been churning out Goan treats since 1993, long before regional Indian cuisine became fashionable. As the name, Ma Goa, suggests, the family matriarch is in charge of the kitchen with her son taking care of front-of-house. And like all good family restaurants, there is pride and passion in their food that is conveyed through genuinely warm and helpful service. The Starters Joining me for dinner was Mr Wine, and to kick off we shared a couple of starters. Our favourite was sorpotel (£5.50) , a traditional Goan dish of lambs' liver and kidney with pork belly in a roasted spice masala. Given the inclement wea

It was a very good introduction to Goan food and it’s whetted my appetite for more. I do recommend their nimbu pani (spiced lemonade).

Since Ma Goa was refurbished and changed its food category/style, it has definitely improved.

The menu has been seriously reduced to now serving almost tapas style, although you can of course have a main portion for yourself.

The food is much better now, probably because there aren’t so many dishes that need attention, so it’s more quality over quantity, which is evidently working.
However, there is a fairly serious negative - the amount of salt used to season during the cooking is rather excessive. I specifically asked the waitress on the last visit to tell the chef to lay off the salt.

Another change since the refurbishment is the wine bar next door - its owned by the same family and a number of choice wines are available in the restaurant from the drinks menu.
PS - you can buy wine from the bar at a cheaper price than the restaurant and ‘send it over’, although there will be a corkage fee, so depending on the bottle price, you could save money.

Really not a fan of this. It's so promising from the apparent reviews and "awards" but when we went, we were the only ones eating. The food has very very oily and there was an overriding taste and smell of burnt spices, both with the dishes and in the air. Stick with the Holy Cow, next door.

When going out for Indian food, northern Indian/ Punjabi cuisine is usually on offer and heading to Ma Goa, I was looking forward to trying something new in the form of Goan cuisine. Goa, famed for it's hedonistic beaches, is a fusion of Indian and Portuguese, a product of 500 years of Portuguese occupation. Goan cuisine is heavily Portuguese influenced and given its coastal location, includes a hefty dose of seafood.

We're here with a large group to celebrate a birthday and we're soon settled in a warm cosy room with some piped Bollywood tunes filtering through.

The menu is completely different to the usual Indian fare so it takes some time to go through. Husband and I opt to share the lamb starter - Borrego Pankhwalla - grilled marinated lamb cutlets.

The lamb is tender and could match even the famed Tayyabs cutlets. The accompanying yoghurt is perplexingly sweet so I give it a miss and the lamb is much the better without the dip.

As is the Indian way, we order a few mains to share - Goan Prawn Kodi (Apparently a popular dish found on Goan beaches), potatoes and the Goan equivalent of Palak Paneer (Spinach and cottage cheese).

Prawn Kodi is prawns in a tamarind and coconut sauce, the prawns were meaty and moist and the gravy ever so slightly sweet and spicy.

The Palak Paneer is pretty standard and I'm blown away by the potatoes - fried with tomatoes and fenugreek leaves. All in all, we've had a great meal and this is a place I will definitely recommend to enjoy India's regional delights.

hi everyone,

You can find in this restaurant a good selection of Indian food, good and varied food, good presentation, friendly and attentive service, beautiful Indian decor, pleasant atmosphere.
To me, nothing to complain about. Nice also because it is located in a very touristic and lively.

I recommend you the Chicken tikka Bites, it's delightful

It is always interesting to taste something different from a country. There are the usual meals but more importantly some more specific from Goa... and they were all great. As well as the cocktails that do not appear on the website. Finally, the waiters were nice and do care about us and the evening was really nice there...
We will definitively go back.

Ma Goa in Putney is our favorite local Indian restaurant and this time we brought a friend visiting from Miami on a Sunday evening. The starter of stuffed papa rd was light & tasty, meat just fell off the bone in the main of lamb shank. My daily special of a lamb mince was slightly too salty but full of flavor. As usual the fresh spices really came through in every dish, and the service was prompt and courteous.

A little gem in Putney. The Goan food served is a welcome change from the regular cuisine served in many Indian restaurants. The potato patties with fenugreek, are sublime. The curries are superb and so is the fish. The rich flavours and texture showed off the cuisine at its best.
They serve hot freshly made chapattis which are delicious.
It is a bit of a travel to get to Putney to try this restaurant but it is well worth the effort.

We were excited about visiting as we have spent a fair few months in Goa in the past. We arrived on time at 7.30pm to find the place completely full, the only downside to this as we found out is it slowed the service down to the point that we were there for almost 2.5 hours! Aside from the service the food was superb, we started with the sorpotel and stuffed papads, and followed with Pork Vindaloo and Konkan Style Gallina accompanied by Coriander & red onion Naan and some rice, all delicious, but very slow. We decided to order coffee with dessert and opted for Chocolate samosas and bebinca, the latter was a ridiculously small portion. We were not impressed with the coffee for the money we were charged for it. Overall a very good evening out.

Went to MaGoa for the first time last Wednesday and we had such a good time, hence the review. Every dish we ordered (lamb biriyani, palak paneer samosas, all 3 types of naans, nariyal gallina and achari nimboo tikka) were a hit among us, especially the achari nimboo tikka which we even got a takeaway of later. The lamb in the biriyani, and chicken in the nariyal gallina were very tender and naans were also much bigger than we thought would be (great value for money and was not too much to eat for 3 people) and went very well with nariyal gallina. Service was also very quick and the 2 waitresses were very attentive and efficient. Thank you MaGoa for giving us such a lovely dining experience, we'll be back for sure :)

Great fresh Goan dishes! Lovely ambeince. Food served in great style! Modern Regional (Goa) Indian cooking at its best! Fresh flavours. Next door a lovely little wine shop GLUG where one can buy Portuguese wines to go with the Portuguese influenced Goan food. A must visit in Putney!

Such a special place! Incredibly tasty food, packed full of flavour! The staff are all so friendly and made us feel so welcome. A short walk from the Putney stations, and there is even a bus stop right outside.

A lovely little secret! Great dishes, really good, excellent wine (+corkage) but still at very good prices. And above all, very good, friendly staff/service. Overall, well worth the 40 minute Uber ride!

Always great food and friendly staff. This is one of those places where you feel welcome. Was first time that actually got table without booking. Portions are just right and prices are not eye-watering. Only thing that might make you cry is their spiciest dish 😁

Beautiful food and friendly service. We asked for recommendations and they were spot on. Murgh mahkni - which was charcoal grilled chicken in creamy sauce, was my favourite. Their dessert of three small dishes was also amazing. What a gem! Will definitely be coming back here soon.

Not particularly cheap but outstandingly good Indian food. Tasty, authentic and original dishes served with aplomb. Excellent service and pleasant quirky surroundings. Much bigger than it looks from the street and genuinely atmospheric in the back. Plus (!) five draft Belgian beers. Does it get any better than this?

Always a pleasure and always tasty food. The staff are attentive and friendly and the food is great. Make sure you use the hidden door on the right to go into the wine shop next door for a post dinner bottle...

Had an excellent takeaway from here on Saturday and couldn't recommend it enough! The lamb chops we had as part of a starter were divine (sorry can't remember the actual name of them!) and we were raving about them the next day. A little bit different to usual Indian cuisine, but this is definitely a good thing!
