While on vacation in London we had the good fortune of finding Pizzicotto. I had the Vellutata soup to start. Loved it. Then went on to share in one of the most delicious pizza's I have ever eaten! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Pizzicotto is a charming restaurant a short stroll from the Kensington High Street shops so as well as serving excellent food it is well placed for you to recover after a heavy session of retail therapy. The restaurant is the sister of the now 50 year old London icon ‘Il Portico’. I recently had lunch at Pizzicotto and met some of the suppliers of the ingredients that the owners specially select to create that genuine Italian culinary experience.

I went to Naples a few years ago in search of the perfect pizza-sadly I was struck down by a mysterious lurgy before I could get into my stride but that quest for the perfect fusion of charred light crust, melted cheese and sweet tomato continues. To further that aim I have been invited to do a review of Pizzicotto, a  family run Italian restaurant not far from Kensington High Street tube. Not only are they members of Slow Food UK  but their ‘ black activated charcoal pizza dough’ came in the top 20 at the World Pizza Championships so I am very excited to see how the ‘black’ pizza shapes up.They were playing old soul tracks from the 60s and 70s which added to my anticipation and the room was humming with the sound of happy noshers! It is I believe illegal (or at least should be) to start an Italian meal without an aperitivo. A Negroni Spagliato (£8) is a wonderfully bittersweet mix of sweet Vermouth,  Campari and Prosecco that starts the process of getting the gastric juices flowing without making you too drunk…Chargrilled sea scallops (£11) from the wood burning oven came with a Parmesan crumble topping. I was concerned when this dish arrived that the scallops would be overdone but they were still plump and juicy -that’s the beauty of the wood burner which creates an intense heat allowing for a shorter cook time.I’m surprised Italy has any Burrata left the amount being consumed in the UK at the moment. It has to be perfectly fresh and this Burrata from Puglia certainly was. Served with chargrilled zucchini, flatbread and confit tomato (£10) it was the perfect summer dish, washed down with a delicious glass of Verdicchio.Chargrilled sashimi grade tuna with fennel and grapefruit salad (£18) was perfectly cooked – pink on the inside with the charred tramlines of the grill giving it a bit of caramelised sweetness. Fresh fish like this needs a minimum of messing with. I love fennel and grapefruit adds a sweet acidity to the aniseed crunch of the veg.And here it is! The Spacca Napoli Pizza with salted anchovies marinated in garlic and chilli, mozzarella, black olives and capers (£12.50). You can choose the charcoal infused base with any of the pizzas at Pizzicotto for a small supplement and it really gives it a lighter feel which aids digestion. Because the charcoal adds a distinct flavour I would recommend choosing more robust flavours for the toppings. For dessert the Amaretto crème caramel (£5.75) had the unusual twist of a biscuit base and was a lovely combination of creaminess, almond and caramel.I’ve had a couple of deconstructed Tiramisu (£5.75) recently which have really pissed me off. Stop mucking around with it people! This was a classic version – sponge fingers in coffee, mascarpone, egg, sugar and cocoa delivering happiness on a plate.

Finding a good, classic Italian restaurant in London is harder than it sounds. I’ve found my personal favourites over time, but still to this day they’re always missing that one little thing. Whether it’s the ambience, a not quite satisfying starter or tiramisu lacking that Marsala kick. With my newest discovery however that may all be about to change, because Pizzicotto on Kensington High Street is the whole package. A wood fired bistro and pizzeria serving classic, modern Italian food in the heart of Kensington.

The cuisine while Italian features the farm to fresh type menu items. I went with the tagliatelle whole grain pasta-with onions, chili and potatoes-which was one of the few pasta dishes I hadn't had before. It was delicious. Amber had the roman artichoke flan with cheese and garlic. She knows how time consuming cooked artichokes are to prepare, so when she sees it on the menu-she orders it. She loved it.

Lovely little Italian bistro with authentic Italian staff to boot.
One word of warning, if you're going for the burrata on your pizza do remember that it will leach water while cooking and might turn your pie soggy.
Varied and unique daily specials but their signature dishes are equally good.

Nice place with good selection of Italian food (pasta and pizza). The pizza I had looked nice but wasn't served right after it came from the oven so it was a bit cold. Unfortunately even the plate was preheated so I was basically eating cold pizza. What a pity.

The pizza is excellent with a good variety. You can taste the wood oven which adds a lovely character to the pizzas. Staff are kind and check on you regularly. Prices are not cheap, and they automatically include service charge of 12.5% (no sub-total without service charge so if you're many you have to work it out)

Amazing Italian trattoria Roma & Napoli in London - MUST, if you love Italian food If you love Italian food this is your place in London. A trattoria style place with fantastic pizzas and other delicious Italian food. We started with fresh burrata that arrived from Puglia and great fried gnocchi. For main course my son took pizza and I had Squid ink tagliolini with king prawns which was very tasty. The tiramisu was superb Wine list is good, service was friendly and attentive.

Good Italian restaurant with oven baked pizzas. It is simple yet very well made, fresh and tasty. Worth a try after a stroll in the park. The staff was very friendly too!

Pizzas are fabulous!!! I highly recommend the Margherita Pizzicotto (see picture below) which has burrata and confit tomatoes. Desserts are not my favourite though (we once ordered cheesecake but it was still half frozen). + : helpful staff / food is good / fair price - : desserts / service is a bit long sometimes

Probably the best pizza I have ever had in the UK. The sauce is rich and tomatoey, the crust is light, salty and crunchy and the cheese is rich and creamy. If you are in the area go there.

As locals to the area we can’t believe we’ve only just discovered this place! Seriously one of the best pizza’s we’ve had in London. Great atmosphere and wine list. Mostly seating indoors but there are two outdoor tables.

Average food, reasonably priced but lacks the authentic Italian vibes of more traditional Italian restaurants.

The Margarita Pizzicotto is undeniably one of the best pizzas you can get in London. Everything about it is sublime.

What a lovely restaurant. And the Christmas decoration is so romantic and cozy not to mention the food is so delicious healthy completely authentic Italian. the servers and the owner is so attentive and super nice. I am a vegetarian and i initially ordered a salad. Didn’t like it and the owner had no problem to change it up. So I had three sides of vegetables. the sides taste amazing which is really rare to come by. The pastas smell heavenly! Too bad I’m on a carb diet. Will definitely visit again

A sign of a good pizza is not knowing which bit to attack next and that was certainly the case here. There was ample topping all over with very fresh ingredients. Mine was slightly wet, but only due to my choice of toppings. The dough was excellent too, very light and full of flavour. There was a good wine selection consisting of a number of regional Italian wines. The small number of homemade desserts rounded off an excellent meal.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was fast and very delicious. Our kids loved the spaghetti with tomato sauce and plain. The pizza was not as crispy as one is used to in Italy. The rim was thicker and softer, but we also liked it also very much. The prices are in the higher price segment (equal to Swiss prices). But it is definitely worth it.
