A merry and raucous eating house - expensive but makes a great steak. One level below in the basement, with very interesting decor and long tables. Ordered a Beast cocktail, a medium-rare chateaubriand and mushrooms as sides. The cocktail looked good but tasted less impressive. The steak was perfect with the accompanying truffle sauce, and the mushrooms were yummy. The service sucked - pretentious and inattentive. If I am paying the 12.5% forced ‘discretionary’ service charge, I expect better. Total bill was around GBP 80.

Unusual setting unusual menu sets the tone. The selection of crab and steaks makes this a place to visit. The distinct flavours the quality of the products makes this quite a unique restaurant. The wagyu beef and the crab were amazing!

One of the best places I have ever been to. The ambience and the decor are subtle (if darkish), elegant/chic but informal. You come out of the lift and literally find yourself in front of the living beasts. This could be my longest review; from start to finish. The setting of the tables... I just loved it. Don’t know London well, but will recommend this one

Excellent setting and ambience. Steak was good but not the best I’ve had. Plain chips however were amazing and the semi freddo dessert was the best I’ve had for a long time. I would highly recommend this place. Great service too.

Marvellous restaurant, the location is great. They have some of the biggest lobsters I've ever seen and the most delicious. I ordered the wagyu t bone steak and was amazed by its flavour, the best steak I've ever had. The truffle sauce was perfect, I ordered a second steak and was equally impressed by the flavour. The service is perfect and the staff is very friendly.

Surprisingly ....I didn't really had the same experience at Beast as everyone else.

It's supposed to be one of the best spots to have an unforgettable steaks in London...however for me ...our chosen meat type was gone in terms of grams (it's the restaurant style and theme) ...so we had to go with another recommended type of meat which the order taker suggested.
It was awful and full of fat and fat and fat ...we left with stomach ache which was not expected at all unfortunately :-(((
The fries was very good though!
Just please a request for order takers ...people come to your place and it's not really cheap..so don't suggest stuff when it's not really appealing to them. You're just turning their expectations to 👎🏻👎🏻

Great starters, super deco and awesome aged meats !
Except 100pounds per person including 2 glasses of entry level wine per person.
The shrimp tempura amazing, the crab gyoza fantastic and the 60day aged sirloin memorable !
Highly recommended!

I was in London a while ago and my friend recommended this place so I made a last minute reservation and luckily I found a table anyways.

The atmosphere is lovely and the servers were really friendly.

So we decided to order the 2.3 kg lobster which woah was too big for me

Anyways the calamari can't be missed and oh god the grilled shrimps are just too good to be true !

We ordered the burrata but hmm wasn't as good as I expected it.

But other than that the food was good well and the fries with truffles were delish.

The perfect place to have seafood

The dessert was donuts with cinnamon were so good

Can wait to go back to this place in my next visit to London.

Very cool ambience, shared long tables and fantastic succulent steaks. Book early to get the cuts you want. The crabs have a cool QR code so you can see where it was caught.

You know there are some places you go to where things get out of control. In my younger days, that used to be Infernos on a sleazy Saturday. These days, it's a more refined affair but equally as epic when I find myself at Beast.

Substituting the party of a never ending remix of the Baywatch theme song for a party in my mouth, you come to Beast for 2 things and 2 things only; humungous slabs of quality cut beef or epic King crabs which look like something out of Aliens. Starters and sides are delicious and I'll get into those at some point but they are not the storyline here.

Dining in a group, we did both and it was a true team effort. Thick cuts of tender USDA ribeye and sirloin flew around the table, landing on plates never to be seen again as they were devoured with pleasure. But for me, the winner was the Norwegian King crab which ranks as one of the best seafood items I've had in London. Meat so moist and sweet, it was exactly how crab was meant to taste and as delicious as the accompanying garlic butter was, to tarnish the natural flavours of the crab would be a shame.

But of course a meal of this quality doesn't come cheap and that is the case at Beast. On food alone our table spent £80 per person and that covered a starter and mains. That's not to say the meal wasn't worth it for the experience alone but these days, £80 can get you quite far in London so consideration needs to be given to that fact.

In aggregate, I would say that Beast is worth going to if you have a bit of cash to splash and you're up for a quality feast. For me, it will very much be a "special occasions" type of place or when I'm in desperate need of a treat.

Beast is a rather unusual high end restaurant in Marylebone. It is from the Goodman Group, the same people behind the wonderful steak joint Goodman and the affordable Burger and Lobster.

You can always trust the Asian’s when it comes to a quality crustacean. And so when a friend from Hong Kong told me that London’s moneyed Asian cohort have found a new joint to feast on sea flesh, I was eager to get my fill. Sure enough they were here in their numbers, having flocked over from Burger & Lobster which at £20 is loose change in comparison. They were gorging on a bigger and uglier beast. The Giant Norwegian King Crab. The restaurant is Beast.

Dinner at Beast is never going to be a particularly cheap outing; after all, this restaurant from the chap behind Burger&Lobster and Goodman specialises in Norwegian king crab. Having fallen in love with the place on my first visit I was pleased to see it was just as good when I returned – if not better.

As I’ve been lucky enough to visit so many wonderful restaurants in the past, I’ve decided to introduce a weekly blog post, talking about one of those places each week. My very own ‘Throwback Thursday’. And today I’m writing about Beast. The other half and I went there for my birthday in October last year, and it’s one of the best meals I’ve had in London. The premise is simple. They serve crab and steak. And fortunately those are two of my very favourite things :)

My birthday, as always, is an excellent excuse for me to force my husband to spend an extortionate amount of money on me. Because, you know, I’m worth it, and all that crap. The last few years I have demanded European minibreaks to celebrate my day of birth but this year I thought the UK deserved to share in my over-enthusiastic approach to honouring how wonderful I am. Anyway, it’s more fun telling everybody you encounter that it’s your birthday if you can speak the same language them. My restaurant of choice this year was Beast – the newest Goodman establishment which specialises in high quality steak and Norwegian King Crabs. If you visit their website you can watch a really interesting video about how the crabs are treated with the utmost care and respect so as to ensure the tastiest meat. Also, you don’t want to piss off these crabs, they are absolutely massive and could probably sever a head with their impressive pincers. Nobody wants an angry crab on their hands. There’s something quite clandestine about Beast. The entrance is rather understated (if you ignore the gigantic bear in the foyer to which I gave a quick hug when nobody was looking*) but as you descend into the bovine bunker the restaurant is truly breath-taking. There are walls of king crabs looking all sinister in their watery tombs and a dining area that would give Hogwarts a run for its money. ANGRY CRAB!!! ARGHHH!!! I asked to be sat at the end of the giant banquet table because I don’t want people that I don’t know touching me. However, my fears were unwarranted as there really is a lot of room and I didn’t have to suffer anything even close to an elbow scuff with strangers. There is a set menu (£75) which is the most popular option but there are also a la carte options. The starter is simple – really good parmesan, a selection of antipasti and some exquisite balsamic vinegar. This may not look overly impressive, but what an effective little starter it was. My taste buds were awoken; my appeti

London’s latest arrival on the culinary scene comes courtesy of the team that have brought us the delicious Goodman Steakhouse and the London breakout, and now staple: Burger and Lobster. Suffice it to say expectations were high and our palettes restlessly eager to try what new offerings were to be bestowed upon us in this new mecca of meat and crab. Some important facts to know about Beast, firstly i

The beast is a Norwegian red king crab and hand selected Nebraskan beef restaurant in London. It is located just north of Oxford street by Debenhams and is the new restaurant by the people behind Goodmans and Burger and Lobster. I had heard a lot about this restaurant, it has generated a lot of hype due to its unusual menu.   I came here on a Wednesday evening for dinner. When you enter the restaurant you see a big statue of a bear (assuming the beast) and you take the elevator or the stairs if you are healthy and go to the basement where the restaurant is located. On the way to the bar and to the table you can see various chunks of beef hanging (they hang their beef for 35 days and hand select it) and also live red (hey are called red but they are actually more purple/ pale pink colour)king crabs from Norway still alive, but not for long.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about writing a review. This beast is special. From the guys behind Goodman and Burger & Lobster, came another specialised menu restaurant of steak and crab. The underground restaurant is hidden behind Oxford Street with no marked entrance. I only took a punt with the massive bronze bear in the hallway and was invited to take the lift down to the restaurant. I was greeted by a huge tank of swimming Norwegian king crabs, next to slabs of beautiful beef being dry-aged.  As I was sipping on my Knickerbocker at the bar, Divy offered me a quick intro to see the custom made Texan grill; glaring coal in the middle of the grill rocking the temperature up to 6-700 degrees, searing the dictionary-thick steaks in no time. To quote Divy, it's a beast.  The dining room is organised by 3 long benches with overhanging medieval style candelabras to create a Hogwarts / Oxbridge banquet ambiance. This works well for groups, and couples are mostly sat be

Beast is the latest (April 2014) restaurant opening from the team behind the phenomenally successful Burger and Lobster. It is tucked away in a basement in a street north of Oxford Street so obscure that the taxi driver had never heard of it, in a building that was unmarked (apparently a sign is “on the way”). The dining room feels more like some sort of Viking drinking den than a restaurant, with communal bench seating along plain wooden tables. No less than 116 diners can be seated, or at least plonked on a bench, at any one time. The seating is not going to encourage people to linger, unless anaesthetised by wine, which is perhaps the cunning plan.

The format has been a no-choice £75 menu involving steak and king crab. By the time I visisted they had relented slightly on the menu flexibility and were offering a lunch menu with a sirloin at £40 for 500g, and striped prawns at £16 for a starter; desserts were £6.50. However this is not the place to come for a cheap lunch. The high prices are explained by the quality of the produce, as we shall see.

A wine list included offerings such as Domaine Fouassier Sancerre Les Chasseignes 2012 at £46 for a wine that you can find in the high street for £13, the lovely Donnhoff Spatlese Oberhauser 2012 at £90 for a wine that retails at £32, up to grander offerings such as Didier Dagenau Pouilly Fume 2011 at £150 for a wine that will set you back £46 in a shop.

Gamberi prawns, served both raw and cooked, were of exemplary quality, the raw version in particular lovely to eat (hard to score something this simple, but certainly 15/20). These Mediterranean red prawns are the Rolls Royce of prawns, and even in the markets of Italy they come with a price to match.

Recently Japan has relaxed its export rules, so for the first time you can actually order “Japanese wagyu” on a menu outside Japan with the prospect that the description may actually be true, though this has not stopped unscrupulous restaurateurs (especially in the USA) passing off their beef as “Japanese waygu” or even ‘Kobe” for years, when no such thing was legal. This version was from Gunma prefecture, a fairly obscure area in the north-west of Kanto province known mainly for its wheat-flower dumplings and kettle rice. The beef, served both raw and grilled, was very good, not overly marbled and certainly better than the wagyu beef from Australia and the USA that is usually to be found on expensive London dinner tables. However it is not in the league of the best from Kobe or (even better) Matsusaka (16/20). We also tried some grilled beef from Nebraska by way of comparison. This was tender and carefully cooked, with initially good flavour that fell away a little after the initial impression (14/20).

King crab was from Norway and served in its shell. The crab is shipped in live, in a fairly elaborate process explained via a video on the restaurant website. This was excellent, sweet in flavour and lightly cooked, a wild crab that certainly tasted better than most (15/20). There were a few desserts on offer, and I sampled a pleasant lemon mousse, a less good chocolate mousse and decent cheesecake (13/20 average).

A typical bill if you came to dinner and shared a decent bottle of wine would be around £110 a head all in, so this is a place that seems quite clearly aimed at heavy-drinking City traders on expenses as a target audience. It is unclear to me how much this will appeal to a broader public, given the high price point. The ingredient quality is not in question, from the lovely red prawns through to the Japanese beef and king crab, but I am curious as to how many diners will be willing to shell out (sorry) this much money for a successive courses of simply cooked protein, excellent though it is. I find this very difficult to score, but if you want to try out some top ingredients and bring a large credit card then this Beast has a certain beauty.

Full disclosure: I did not receive a bill for this meal.

On my 1st visit today, the food was Okay. Maybe wasn't my taste because my colleague liked it. But the host Ms. Zara was amazing. All staff were friendly and helpful but she was extraordinarily giving all her attention and eager to have us happy and satisfied. I will certainly come again and try different dishes. I highly recommend their vibes and service & I might change my perception about their food next time.

Beast is one of the most popular restaurants as a steakhouse in London. I loved the place . The OpenTable concept was cool . Service was excellent . The waitress was very informative about cut types and wasn’t trying to sell but to see what’s good to our taste. The B cut Wagyu is the best in my opinion as the A cuts are very fatty . Overall after trying many steakhouses I would say it’s a very good place but definitely overpriced..

It is exceptional. Some would say, ‘sets the bar’. But in all honesty food and service are on point. Crab (legs and claws) + steaks are the way forward. Definitely don’t forget the peppercorn sauce (quite possibly the best). Yes it’s expensive. But worth it; and there aren’t many places where you can confidently say that. We will be back. Full justifies the $$$$ on Google Maps and it’s worth it. As long as you know there’s no doing Beast on budget you’re probably going to have one the best Surf & Turfs in the world, and certainly the best in the UK. The experience to see and pick your giant king crab up close and have expertly prepared in front of you is only overshadowed by the exquisite cuts of beef, in our case Peak District UK, Nebraska USA and Fuji Japan. The steak 🥩 was likely the best I’ve ever had and authentic Wagyu never disappoints. The cocktail menu offers a wide variety of choices, the standout for me is the Picante de la Casa & they also have a wide diverse wine list (albeit on the more pricey side). If you have a very special occasion to celebrate and a large budget to spend I can’t really think of anywhere better….unless you don’t eat meat! Although, to be clear they do cater for plant based diets, it’s just I would strongly recommend their sharing surf and turf menu!

Amazing experience. My wife and I visited for out anniversary. The experience was fantastic and our food was incredible. We went for the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The staff accommodated my peculiarities in not eating seafood after a little discussion. I'm glad we were given a private table rather than the long bench seating, which seems slightly at odds with the high end food on offer. I contemplated rating 4 stars as I do think it is slightly overpriced for the food quality, which is excellent, but not sure it's quite at the level they are charging. I didn't mark down because the staff were excellent and made up for the cost being slightly over what I think the food was worth, but bear this in mind.

Impeccable in every way. Service was beyond amazing - swift, polite, knowledgeable and with a smile. Food cooked to perfection. We celebrated my husbands birthday here and I had got in touch prior and they handled everything perfectly and truly went above and beyond. They recreated a tasting menu type experience catering to our needs of halal. Also their non alcoholic drinks were great. The ambience of the restaurant was decadent but not pretentious. I can’t thank the wonderful team enough for creating such a special night for us!

Incredible dining experience. A surf & turf concept where you can see the available cuts of meat and crab/lobster on a chalkboard that gets updated in real time as people order. Enjoyed the oysters, pickled watermelon & tuna salad, and the king prawns for starters. For mains, we tried the USDA Prime Ribeye which was amazing and the chateaubriand. To top it all off, the cheesecake was phenomenal! Highly recommended.
