Petrichor, pronounced PET-ri-kuhr is a surprisingly good restaurant you may well not know about overlooking Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly, St James’s. Located on the first floor of The Cavendish Hotel, this 2 AA Rosette Restaurant offers locally sourced ingredients from British farms and producers.

The meat was cooked slightly pink inside and was tender, juicy and plentiful. The crispy pink fir potatoes were wrapped in bacon and served on a bed of sweet roasted onions with spinach, lardons and the most delicious red wine sauce.

The Petrichor at The Cavendish Hotel is one of the strangest restaurants I've been to all year. Why? you ask. Well keep on reading through my excessively boring and monotone writing style and you'll find out. The Petrichor restaurant is located on the first floor of The Cavendish Hotel in Piccadilly, directly behind Fortnum and Mason. Upon walking in to this four star hotel was like nothing I'd imagined. Dated, tired, clumsy decor - it was not very Piccadilly. We made our way up the stairs, and round the corner to the restaurant which was the epitome of hotel dining, stripes, dark wood, acid tripping carpet and hideous quadruple glazed windows. I'm sure this was once the idea of luxury dining, but it hasn't aged gracefully.

But then the bread arrived. French stick, olive, rye, granary. All warm and absolutely stunning. Really, I am sucker for bread and it was perfect. The downside was not the tasty butter, but rapeseed oil. Why on earth would you serve rapeseed oil for dipping, it has absolutely no flavour at all. A delicious olive oil would have turned this bread course from excellent, to near outstanding.

Things then slowly started to change. Not necessarily for the worst, but for the most confusing meal ever. Our first starter was the honey glazed mackerel fillet, a crab salad, beetroot broth, apple and celery sorbet. Sound great, right? Well every element of it was perfect. But all the ingredients together did not work. Each was either too intense than the other, tepid, cold, or freezing - there was far too much going on. But at the same time that celery sorbet and mackerel fillet was sublime, there is certainly no doubt some talent in this kitchen.

On the other hand, smoked duck breast, toasted brioche, a poached hens egg, baby spinach, hollandaise sauce and crisp onion was a dish which sounded much more interesting than it actually was. The brioche was lovely, so was the hollandaise but the duck - well it was very thin and uninspiring. This would have been a fantastic dish for brunch, but I was eating here for mid-week dinner, not early on a Sunday morning.

Now how gorgeous does this next dish look? It looks mouth-watering. Well it was, partly. And i mean that quite literally. Pan fried chicken breast was perfect, succulent, juicy. Jerusalem artichoke puree was good, as were the morels and red wine sauce but the confit and breaded drumstick was unbelievably dry. Putting this dish together took a lot of skill, but to allow one part of it to overcook and dry out, let the dish down - it could have been easily avoided. It was a lovely plate of food which while wasn't perfect, could easily have been.

I seem to be turning more into a vegetarian every day that passes. So many restaurant these days are serving stunning seasonal ingredients, such as asparagus, peas, barley, or just the delightful thing that is Parmesan - I just can't resist. This pearl barley with smoked apple wood cheese croquettes, pea veloute and a crisp vegetable salad was magnificent. It was so light and fresh - apart from the huge portions. A vegetarian's delight, and almost mine.

Lovely lunch, 3 courses and free flowing prosecco.. delicious food, beautifully presented. Service on the whole was good but the food came out quite slowly. A great experience, just don't expect speed (sometimes a leisurely lunch is just what you want). We'll definitely be back!

Came here 5months ago and weren't impressed with the menu. Since it's changed, it's vibey, chic, hidden gem. Nice views and lovely staff and drinks and menu. Duck, steak and crab seafood on the menu. We're not disappointed with either food or drink, recommended!!

Me and my sister went here for a 3 course meal last night and bottomless prosecco for 90 minutes, we had such a lovely experience. The glasses were always topped up, I had the fillet steak which was so nice. The waitress Armandeep was exceptional, very friendly and her customer service was brilliant. Thank you!

We visited Mayfair Grill Lounge @ Cavendish Hotel last Monday. I had a gift package for 3 course dinner and flowing prosecco. Front house manager and our waitress for the evening Aswathy went the extra mile to make us feel special, absolutely excellent service! As per food, chef excelled our expectations it was totally delicious from the starter to the dessert accompanied by very nice prosecco. Stylish décor and lovely (not live on Monday evening) piano music made that evening for us very pleasant. Thank you and hopefully we will be back soon!

We had the bottomless prosecco 3 course lunch. The service was great, our glasses was always topped up. The set menu was a little bit limited in choice, anything that sounded interesting was an extra cost and everything on the grill was an extra cost!! Seems a bit of a marketing stunt to lure you in and then charge more. The food we did order were all very well presented and tasty!

Me and my partner visited here and had an amazing time. All the staff was amazing. The place was absolutely spotless and the food was very tasty. Only downside was that was a little bit slow at pouring the Prosecco, but whenever we asked for more than more than happy to Poor.

Was nervous to not know what the gluten free afternoon was going to be like but it was very yummy, I was very happy. It did take over an hour (I think nearly an hour and half) until our food arrived but we had champagne going and glass being filled for at least 3 hrs because we only started eating after about an hour and half of being there but at least we were very hungry. The hour and half bottomless afternoon tea experience became more like 3 hrs which was perfect really. We used a virgin experience voucher but paid just over £8 for service charge. I still think it was good value for money and we loved the setting and the waitress was super friendly.

We had the bottomless prosecco three course lunch. It was an incredibly filling meal and the food was tasty. The prosecco was topped up regularly too. The staff were all friendly and helpful and attentive. I was disappointed to see a standard service charge included in the bill but our waitress explained it as soon as she gave us the bill and she explained that it could be removed, which it was. I prefer to leave a tip of my choosing rather than one forced on me by the restaurant. The service was incredible and the staff deserved more than the restaurant were adding.

Had 3 course dinner with champagne as a present from my sister (using buyagift). The food was absolutely delicious and the service first class. Thank you.

We enjoyed a lovely Afternoon Tea with bottomless Prosecco. The vegetarian sandwich selection and scones were delicious. However the selection of cakes was very disappointing and nothing like the photo displayed on Virgin Experience Days when booking, hence the 3 stars for food. The service was outstanding, Jurate and Amanda were exceptional and could not do enough for us. Jurate ensured our glasses were topped up without ever having to ask. We look forward to returning in the near future and would definitely recommend.

We went for the three course set menu with unlimited prosecco via buyagift! We started off with a gorgeous terrine, and artichoke soup with a single dumpling inside, which were both rather tasty. We had the butternut squash risotto and the turkey Xmas dinner for mains - both ok but nothing out of this world. The cheese and crackers after dinner were really tasty. The crackers had a great crisp and the cheese was lovely. The dessert was also lovely and it was a chocolate mousse paired with raspberry sorbet. So, as mentioned earlier, the prosecco didn't stop flowing.. our server was absolutely lovely and took care of us well during the evening. However, on the down side of things - there were a couple of large groups who were super loud in the restaurant due to the endless prosecco, and the decor was pretty dated. But, at that price, we didn't expect grandness. The staff did however recognise this was a bit of a nuisance and offered us other drinks for free which was kind.
