Amazing place. The steak I ordered was so tender, very well seasoned and tasty. The smell was great. The side salad was also greatly seasoned with a delicious dressing. Staff very helpful and smiling. Great place

Hawksmoor Spitalfields is where the Hawksmoor story began, and 10 years after opening its still going strong. A steakhouse first and foremost, Hawksmoor is famous for selling what many, including ourselves, consider to be the best steaks in the UK.

Hawksmoor Spitalfields was the very first Hawksmoor to open back in 2006. Now a successful restaurant group with 6 sites across London, it is regarded as one of the finest steak houses in the capital. With this review, I felt it was best to cut to the chase. Hawksmoor is hands down THE best roast I’ve ever had.

Everyone tell’s a story about a good steak they had or at least they thought they had.  But what is a good steak.  Is it that thumb thick cut that you got from your butcher?  Or perhaps that $89.99 price per kg for a grade 5. Well, those are simply just the beginning.  From the ageing process, to the thickness of the pan and even the temperature of the steak prior to cooking, making the perfect steak is an art that can only be improved and never be mastered.

Hawksmoor has been the talk of the town for a while and i was anticipated to come and try it out.  However, it was disappointing as I was expecting a lot more quality from them.  The steaks are good quality, however it isn’t top notch.  The sides were downfall and the bone marrow was disappointing.

Hands down THE best roast I've ever had. Pink slices of beef cooked on charcoal before finishing in the oven, half a roasted garlic bulb - divine, a roasted shallot, sweet and scrumptious. A perfect Yorkshire pud housing three fluffy and crisp duck fat roasted potatoes. The only thing I didn't like and actually left a lot of, was the pile of slightly chewy greens. The carrots on the other hand were honey roasted and mouth-wateringly good. We accompanied our roast with creamed spinach which is insanely good - spiced with nutmeg - I'd love to find out exactly how they prepare it. I'm a macaroni and cheese fan at the moment so I had to get a wee portion on the side as Hawksmoor's is one of the best. For dessert I went for sticky toffee switching the clotted cream for salted caramel ice cream as recommended by the waiter. It was pretty darn good deserving an 8.5 out of 10 (to be persist). The peanut butter shortbread was presentable of worth trying for any PB fan.
If you're put off for the high steak prices then Sunday lunch is your best opportunity to try Hawksmoor. I'm already planning my next trip.

There is just something so satisfying about a quality steak that can't be replicated or replaced by anything else. The thought of looking at a plate while a massive slab of meat stares back is a sight that sends shivers down my primal spine. But it is a risky game; get a bad steak and you'll be regretting your decision till the cows come home. So where does one turn when in need of a steak fix? For me, the search always starts at Hawksmoor.

Numbering 6 strong across the UK (with 5 being in London), Hawksmoor is committed to showcasing the best beef Britain has to offer and is uncompromising in that pursuit. Hawksmoor doesn't take shortcuts and the evidence is in the product.

Sending me off on my steak odyssey was a starter of fillet steak tartare which was a delight. Fresh and tender mince was combined with capers, gherkin and an egg yolk to produce a pure taste which was incredible. Understandably, tartare may not be everyone's bag but if it is, this is a must.

Onto the main event and as a raw beef lover it was the rump steak for me, which at £18 for 400g of protein represented insane value especially considering the quality of the meat and preparation. Dare I say it, it was one of the best steaks I've had in my lifetime; so soft and tender, the beef cooked to utter perfection with a respect to the natural flavours of the beef which shone through. For those with a more refined taste though, a selection of cuts is available from sirloin to ribeye to fillet however don't forgot to check the blackboard of special cuts of the day which for those with a real appetite to satisfy.

But a steak alone does not make a meal and at Hawksmoor, this is understood as sides of triple cooked chips and smoked bone marrow more than hold their own. The mac and cheese however, is something flat entirely and to call it a side almost seems to be disrespectful but such is the quality of the beef that it is stuck on the bench. But to miss this would be a crime.

Struggling to stand, our meal at Hawksmoor stopped here but what a meal it was. If you love steak, this is your holy ground. Come hungry.

For an amazing steak in the City, it has to be Hawksmoor. The ambience is on point (think dark wood, moody lighting, the buzz of conversation) and the staff are amazing - that brilliant mixture of knowledgeable, fun and friendly. The starters all look lovely, but in several visits I've never managed one; the mains and puds are so good (and filling!) there's been no room at the inn!

The range of cuts and sizes of steak is really impressive, and can be a little daunting for a novice, but the servers are great at advising what cuts are best for your taste and level of cooking. The sides are great - many rave about the double cooked chips and the macaroni cheese, but I'd have to give a shoutout to the deliciousness that is the baked sweet potato.

The puddings are sweet and delicious (I'm told! I usually opt for the homemade rolos as there's no room for anything denser). The cocktails are brilliant, both from the menu and off - I'm a martini girl (extra dry, straight up, with a twist) and love ordering different variations from the wide selections of gin. The wine list is comprehensive, and on Mondays they offer £5 corkage - an excellent opportunity to take some nice wine you've been saving and enjoy over some great steaks and conversation.

Although i went here a little while back i can certainly say i had a great meal from start to end, always busy so do reserve but i just walked in and was fine. Had steak fillet which was cooked on point and sides were tasty too! Desert was fab! The only slight thing i could say about this place is the amount of noise generated from people chatting away as tables are quite close but is nice and homely.

Hits the spot. You can guarantee to get good steaks and burgers at Hawksmoor, however in this fairly new bar, the bar food shouldn't be overlooked. I ordered chicken burger, with shortrib nuggets accompanied with a Hawksmoor cocktail of the month.. I'd happily just go back for the shortrib nuggets - 6 beautiful morsels of breaded shortrib beef stuffed with melted cheese and this came with a kimichi ketchup.

Perfect date location - little coves, friendly staff.

Meat Glorious Meat. I've been wanting to come here for a while now as i have heard good review after good review, but i didn't come here for the steak, oh no no no the burger was at the top of my want list.
The bacon cheese burger arrived on our table and i was like a kid in a candy store, the bun was fluffy and light, the meat tender and juicy, each bite was meet with a groan , it was food porn, the triple cooked chips were really nice to, and went well with the Hawksmoor homemade ketchup. The wife had the beef roast and she claimed it was the best roast dinner she has ever had, and that's saying a lot. So onto the staff, the staff were all very friendly and looked after us pretty well, so all in all our Hawksmoor experience was a good one.

Meaty mayhem.. Early dinner here last dinner was a real treat.
We arrived a little early and so sat at the bar for a drink. Cocktails are a language I am still learning but I can thoroughly recommend the Hawksmoor Fizz - their own personal spin on the Gin Fizz with home made rhubarb syrup. It was delicious. There are also bottles of the flavour options at the bar and you are encouraged to sample each to ensure your selection matches your expectation. The bar staff were brilliant offering friendly service and an admirable attention to the detail of each drink.
Once we moved to our table, the service was equally as good and they were really helpful in encouraging us to branch out from the menu and choose from the boards. They list the steaks available that evening and the corresponding weight and, as they run out, they're crossed off.
Let's get the bad news out of the way, the sides and starters were distinctly average. We ordered a Prawn Cocktail to start which contained a variety of prawn sizes which was a nice touch but it was unfortunately very bland. My girlfriend suggested some chilli would have helped and I think she's probably right. the infamous triple cooked chips were satisfyingly crispy but nothing particularly special and the green salad we ordered was also limp and disappointing.
However the meat is the main attraction in this place and it did not disappoint. We chose the 950g Bone In Prime Rib and this was more than enough for the pair of us. The extra fat in this cut together with the fact that the bone is left in means lots of extra flavour. Our waitress advised us to ask for this medium as the cut also benefits from extra cooking.
I was a little concerned when it arrived at the table as I would never normally order a steak medium but, once I began to eat, I was concerned no longer. The meat melted in the mouth and the flavour was exquisite. Our waitress also counselled a glass of Syrah whose spicy notes matched the food very well.
In conclusion, if you try Hawksmoor, talk to your server and take their advice - they know their stuff. They were really helpful in making sure we ordered well last night. I read the burgers are to die for so I will definitely be making a return trip.

Thirty five quid for a fry-up. OK, that is for two, but still that's a lorra money for a cooked breakfast. But when it comes with the Hawksmoor's meaty seal of approval it gives you confidence that you'll be in for a treat. With the Hawksmoor recently adding a third restaurant to their Empire, my Twitter has been filled with images of friends gorging themselves on what can only be described as a contender for the Breakfast of Champions. Immediately my good friend and erstwhile blogger Mr Eggsley came to mind as a dining companion; he has taken it upon himself to seek out the Capital's breakfast haunts and share his bacon fat lubricated musings on his Breaskfast Epiphanies blog. It was a mild and sunny November morning that the missus and I, a little dressed up for the occasion arrived for our casually late 11.30am breakfast. Mr Eggsley was waiting, looking resplendent in a classic Tweed jacket but with modern detailing that is so reflective of his character. The restaurant has a very r

I've heard of Hawksmoor long before writing this blog, mostly around how it's the best steak in London and meat lover's heaven. All the meat comes from Ginger Pig (the best British butcher), dry aged for at least 35 days and cooked simply on a charcoal grill. The restaurant was packed with city bankers (the Spitalfields one) in their expensive suits, chatting away business progress as early as 6.30pm. We sat close to the daily's board, which listed all the best cuts available in their mighty sizes of 700g and above, including the bone-in prime rib, t-bone, porterhouse and chateaubriand. When Steven Gerrard was asked in an interview what his favourite cheese was he famously answered ‘melted’, that’s genius! The bar is nice, its looks and feels just like the Seven Dials bar just smaller, dark woods, green light shades, very macho . The Short Rib Nuggets are amazing, pulled beef with a melted cheese centre deep friend in bread crumbs. The beef really made this, it was so tender and rich. They don’t need the kimchi dipping sauce, the flavours do not go well together if you ask me. I have had a distant love affair with Poutine without having ever had it. Poutine is a dish from Quebec and involves drowning french fries in gravy and topping with cheese curds. This is the kind of food I love, fried, fatty and covered in gravy.

They say that in the land of the hungry, the one-Hawksmoored man is king. They're wrong. That's why I'm reviewing my second Hawksmoor of the last few months. I enjoyed my November visit to the Seven Dials site so much that the decision to try the Spitalfields branch for a Sunday birthday brunch more or less (actually, less) made itself. At £35 for two to share , rather than £30 as advertised online at the time, the Hawksmoor brunch is pricey. But when you see what's in it, suddenly things don't seem too bad. It's a hymn to overindulgence, a glorious platter of trotter this, blood that, with more meat than you can shake a stick at (if you shake sticks at things) and just enough vegetable to keep you feeling a tiny bit virtuous. A Bloody Mary and a coffee are not included, but should be obligatory for any right-thinking bruncher. Three types of sausage - mutton, pork and beef - are large, juicy and suitably animal, perfect for scooping up beans and smothering with tasty HP, onion and b

The Spitalfield Bar in the basement of Hawksmoor Spitalfields is a worthy member and highly recommended for an (almost) budget Hawksmoor experience. The bar is dark and cosy, pleasantly small and manages a perfect balance between chic and edgy. The waiters, all male at our visit, were handsome and tattooed, and posed a striking contrast to the dark wood and shiny brass walls. Are they there for the waiters? The older I get and the less time I have to linger in bars all night, the more I appreciate places that serve interesting cocktails, have a boozy bar atmosphere and serve great food at the same time, which basically is the best of all worlds. If you can appreciate my reasoning, The Spitalfields Bar will be the place for you. If you got yourself a reservation (I don't

I have been to the actual restaurant for a birthday treat, for it is the kind of place you save for special occasions. And of course it was fantastic steak, though I remember the service being a little patchy. Then they opened the downstairs as a bar serving a separate menu. This is my full review:

Well, no surprises here really - Hawksmoor was AWESOME with a side of awesome. I loved it. I loved it even more that we managed to get in before the 50% off deal came to an end (yesterday) but I would happily go back and pay full price for what we ate, and there are some of the bar snacks/starters that I would like to try.

We had tried to get in last Sunday but there was an hour and a half wait (and you weren't allowed to put your name down and come back close to when tables might be ready - that constituted booking somehow) so we ended up at MeatMission instead. But I was determined not to miss out so we went back on Saturday, making sure to get there as close to its opening as possible - 12pm. This worked a treat as we got there and were seated straight away, watching smugly as the rest of the seats filled up and people started having to wait.

We made perhaps a slight mistake. We're not early morning people so what we were eating at Hawksmoor was actually our breakfast. And I normally like to breakfast light. So, whereas I had planned a starter each, a main and then at least sharing a side and then a dessert each, we just weren't up to eating that much food. But we managed to try all the dishes that I'd heard about and considered the must-haves.

So, we ordered the ox cheek nuggets, the ox cheek french dip and the pig's head poutine. For dessert we had a sticky toffee pudding and some of their famed salted caramel rolos.

The food all comes at once (it's meant for eating while drinking, not as a sit down meal) which was fine by us. All the dishes that the food was served on were perfectly sized to fit the food on it, but left no room for drippage. And there were a lot of juices to contend with.

Stephen had expressed doubt about the ox-cheek nuggets, worrying that they might turn out to be dry. I assured him they wouldn't be, but I didn't realise that they ensured extra moistness by having melted cheese in the middle. In fact, everything we ordered ended up having cheese in it. A fortunate happenstance. The ox cheek nuggets came with a sambal dip which was delicious, but overpowered the flavour of the nuggets themselves. They were so tender and gooey with the cheese, they didn't really need a dip. Which lead to the dilemma - enjoy the nugget on its own, or make the most of the sambal by eating it with the nuggets. Oh these tough, tough decisions!

The French Dip was my favourite of all three and was an amazing sandwich in its own right, never mind with the rich, savoury jus that it came with. I would take a bite and decide I didn't want to 'sully' it with the accompanied gravy, but the gravy was so moreish that I would end up dipping the sandwich in it time and again. A similar conundrum to the aforementioned. The bread itself was very soft and inside was the shredded flavoursome cheek meat topped with, yeah, you guessed it - melted cheese. It put the steak and cheese sandwich I had at MeatLiquor to shame. I'm going to have to let my face get at that again some time soon.

The poutine also came with gravy, but a much lighter, sweeter gravy which was also pretty addictive. Towards the end the chips that it had been covering had been completely soaked in it and were a little soggy, which normally I don't really like (and Stephen moaned a bit about it) but it did mean you got a bit more of the gravy flavour as I spooned up the last sodden scraps of chips, cheese and meat. I've never had poutine before, the idea of gravy with cheese and chips didn't appeal but I'm happy to say I was a fool to think this way. And with pork's head scattered all over it, this dish is a main event in its own right, don't be fooled by it being listed alongside the chips and coleslaw.

I had to get the rolos for 'dessert'. I put that bit in inverted commas because what they really are, are three chocolates, as you would get from Paul A Young or something - they're not a proper 'pudding' as the English say. They were lovely, and the caramel was indeed very salty, but if Stephen hadn't ordered the sticky toffee pudding that I was then able to have some of, I would have been annoyed at myself for ending my meal with them. I could easily have had a real dessert and then ordered these as well.

The toffee pudding was magnificent, the caramel sauce was a light cinder toffee in flavour, leaving a pleasant slightly burned aftertaste. The pudding itself was warm and just like a pudding should be - dense and sticky. And it was topped with a completely unnecessary quenelle of clotted cream, which nevertheless was appreciated as an extra touch of decadence.

Just as anticipated, for me anyway, were the drinks (well, it is a bar!). As it was our breakfast and we were heading to a festival straight after, we didn't want to drink loads while we were in there but I just had to try the full fat old fashioned (rather dear at £12.50 - good job the food was so cheap!). This was butter-infused bourbon with sugar and I could have drank that all day. It mostly just tasted of whisky of course with just enough sweetness to take away any harshness or burning you might get from drinking hard liquor neat. Is it wrong of me to be proud that was the first thing to pass my lips that day? Gorgeous. Stephen had a Kernel Pale Ale which, at 7% and only costing £5 was quite a good deal.

The bar itself has apparently been redone a bit and is all dark wood and low lighting, meaning we could easily forget it was midday outside and that we shouldn't be drinking whisky cocktails at that hour. And our waitress was incredibly friendly and smiley. I'm so, so happy I went.

to bring along your own bottle of wine and only be charged £5 corkage (it's £25
any other day). It's the perfect excuse to drink up that bottle of red you have
gathering dust in a corner (or just to have a slightly cheaper meal, unless you
compensate by going big on the steak of course). We had a few decent bottles of
red left from Christmas that we hadn't drunk and so decided to take those
along.
But, enough about that, onto the food! As a starter I was
torn between the Tamworth Belly Ribs and the Potted Beef and Bacon with
Yorkshires, that was until the Potted Beef and Bacon with Yorkshires was served
to the table next to us and I was sold. In my opinion more starters should
definitely come with Yorkshire Puddings. It was like a mini-Sunday dinner, just
without the potatoes and vegetables.
My boyfriend chose the Yorkshire Puddingless Salmon and Soda
Bread for his starter.
I don't know what I was expecting from Hawksmoor (other than
great steak), but I think I thought it was going to be one of those slightly
offish and cooler than thou, but it wasn't and all the staff were charmingly
helpful and were keen to offer to explain anything on the menu if we needed
help. For my main I went with fillet tail with a peppercorn sauce.
One of my colleagues had raved about the triple cooked
chips, so they were a definite must as a side dish. He was right, they are very
good.
We decided to go big on the desserts (it was my birthday)
and so chose three! The first doesn't even get a picture because we ordered the
Salted Caramel Rolos and we'd managed to eat them before I could get a picture,
they were our dessert warm up. We chose the Colston Bassett Stilton with Walnut
and Pear, which was the perfect savoury accompaniment to our other big dessert.
This was the most photogenic dessert of the three last - the
Chocolate and Hazelnut Cheesecake. Probably not good for me, but good for
charity (50p from each one goes to Action Against Hunger) and that totally
justifies a third dessert.
Although it's a steak restaurant, I was impressed by the
number of non-steak options on the menu (a chicken, fish and vegetarian dish)
which is great when your fellow diner is a non-meat eater and takes you because
they know you'll love it. Next time though, I think we'll probably visit the
Air Street branch as they also do a lot of fish dishes.
Hawksmoor, we'll be back (probably on a Monday), you lived
up to the hype.

Awesome dinner. Favourite steak restaurant in town. Beats competitors...

The meat, sourced from The Ginger Pig, is up there with the best. We shared an on the bone Sirloin (500g) and Fillet (300g) for the middle of the table. Fillet was full of flavour! Sides: triple cooked chips, creamed spinach and macaroni cheese. All full on, but all perfect.

The extensive and original Cocktail list is presented in groups that suit a particular time of day. We had a Hawksmoor Collins and a Grapefruit Picador. Definitely get the later, a boozy, sweet and citrusy drink. Yum!

For wine, on the recommendation of our friendly waiter, John, we chose the Spanish red from Ribera del Duero, Cruz de Alba 2011. It worked perfectly with the rich and plentiful meat. Slightly spicy with a great finish.

For dessert, Peanut butter shortbread with salted caramel ice cream. It was a bloody fantastic finale!

I brought the leftover steak home and first thing the next morning, thinly sliced it and threw it in a hot pan with a touch of oil. It was almost better. And the perfect hangover cure.

For 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine, olives, 2 steaks, 3 sides and a dessert, the meal totalled to £170. Not cheap, but you pay for amazing food, drinks and friendly, down to earth service.

I will be back! Sunday roast is the next calling.

Although I've reviewed Hawksmoor before this review is if the Hawksmoor bar. A tiny little door next to Hawksmoor Spitalfields which leads to a non-descript staircase. Once you reach the bottom though you feel as though you've discovered a tiny little treasure cove. The atmosphere is lively and the music mellow. It has a tavern like feel, and about 5 things on the menu. So if you want to try the quality of Hawksmoor meat, but don't feel like dropping half a weeks earnings on it, their cheeseburger with ox-cheek is my recommendation.

The place has got friendly staff and exceptional food. Hawksmoor definitely lives up to its reputation as one of the best steak restaurants in London. The medium-rare steak that I ordered was perfect and I had no room for criticism, however the portions are relatively small so you may want to order sides with your meal. In addition, their apple crumble that I had for desert was divine. We Love Food, It's All We Eat
+5
There are not many places we could say this about, but we’d happily eat at the Hawksmoor Spitalfields bar every night. We were wowed enough by the main restaurant when we went last year for Ade’s 40th. A fantastic evening in the private dining room at the Seven Dials branch in Covent Garden, beautiful huge steaks, the best chips ever, even the spinach was amazing. We were lucky enough to secure a table during the soft launch with 50% off food at the new Spitalfields bar, we went with our good friend Keith, a fellow cheese hater.

Situated in the basement under the main of Will Beckett and Huw Gott’s original steak restaurant, the new bar has a more glamorous and decadent feel than any of the other Hawksmoor eateries. The basement, previously a dodgy strip club, that was used as a storage for the spoils of Huw’s eBay addiction has been given a stunning 1920s Art Deco makeover. As always with Hawksmoor interior design, the new bar features loads of reclaimed materials. A polished brass wall is made from 90-year-old lift doors salvaged from the Unilever Building in Embankment (blue-patterned mirrors and the teak parquet floor are from there too). White Victorian glazed bricks have been used on the columns, even the heavy dark wood tables are made from chemistry lab tops. The walls of three alcoves are one of the most striking features in the bar, covered with turquoise Art Nouveau tiles with brass caged lights. The ceilings of the alcoves, along with the bar top, are covered with copper which looks amazing against the dark blue leather seats and peacock-blue walls. Despite it being brand new it has the look and feel of an older establishment.

We were early so had a couple of drinks at the bar in the main restaurant before being led down to our table in the basement bar by the friendly waitress. Being quite a bit of a tomboy, I love how the Hawksmoor feels almost like a gentlemen’s club, and the menu and drinks are very male-orientated. My Monk Antrim’s Manila Julep £7.50 Pineapple Bourbon, Rum & Mint was a special thing to watch being prepared and wasn’t dissimilar to a Mojito.

Keith and I shared a Shortrib French Dip £10 and a Hot Dog £8.50, the only downer on the night was when the waiter asked if I was sure I didn’t want cheese and made me feel like he was laughing at me a little bit. I said I was and he said no more, I should make myself a ‘I hate cheese’ badge for situations like this! The French Dip was so good, tender thinly sliced steak in an rich intense thick and meaty gravy wedged in a soft shiny bun, I ended up with gravy dripping over my hands but that just made it even more pleasurable, especially when I could still smell it on the way home on the train… The dog was very good too, a juicy firm sausage very much like the Big Apple Hotdog that we had at Mishkin’s.

We had some of the gorgeous Triple-cooked Chips £4 between us, and Ade ordered the Oxtail Poutine £6 (a dish heralding from Canada consisting of Oxtail, chips, gravy and cheese – amazing!) plus a Chilli Cheese Dog £10, Shortrib nuggets £6 and Chicken Wings £5 for us all. I was so jealous of his Poutine, gutted I couldn’t try it, and the nuggets had a vein of cheese running through the inside so they were out of the equation also. Ade’s face when eating it was almost orgasmic, and he looked at us like we were mad for not liking cheese, but sadly that can’t be helped.

I was hoping to share desserts so I could try a few but Keith’s face told me he wanted one all to himself. Ade had his heart set on the Peanut Butter Shortbread with Salted Caramel Ice Cream but it had sold out, so he sweetly chose the Lemon Meringue Pie £6 instead so I could try it. I had the Chocolate Malt Tart £7, am amazed I managed it as it was just as rich and heavy as the main, gorgeous though. Keith had the Sticky Toffee Sundae £6.50 he reluctantly let us try a bit – we can see why he was guarding it.

We left with the fullest happiest bellies in a long time, knowing full well that we’d be back soon. We were. Ade and I returned a couple of weeks later to try what we didn’t on the first visit. Although saying that I had to have the Shortrib French Dip again, along with a very rich cheeseless Chicken Poutine, which I did really enjoy but it didn’t beat the dip. Ade opted for the veggie option, not like him – a Bermondsey Frier Sandwich £8.50, a brioche bun with fried cow’s milk cheese made in Southwark (a bit like halloumi), mushrooms, onions and tomato.

In the meantime I had received an email from co-owner Huw, a feedback follow-up from our original booking, not knowing that we’d be writing about it. I mentioned the cheese situation and he took note of it, we thought it was a really nice touch that they do such a thing, apart from Dishoom, it’s the first place we’ve known to get in contact for regular punter’s feedback. Weirdly on our second visit a girl who was sat at the table next to us also couldn’t eat cheese and we overheard her conversation with the very same waiter that we had before. This time he mentioned that she could have anything on the menu without cheese, apart from the shortrib nuggets. His response was much better than it was with me but I could tell she was left feeling like her options were limited, they aren’t. I was desperate to talk to her but thought she may think I was a freak.

I had the same dessert again and Ade finally got his hands on the Peanut Butter Shortbread with Salted Caramel Ice Cream £7, he was a tad disappointed with it, it wasn’t what he expected a little dry and could hardly taste the peanut butter (I think he was expecting it to be more like a Reese’s peanut butter cup). On to the cocktails (a short list of just ten)… I absolutely loved Shaky Pete’s Ginger Brew £8.50 – Gin, Ginger, Lemon & London Pride- the combination sounds gross but it was brilliant, it fizzed in my mouth. We were chuffed when a barman put down a Non-Such Punch £15.00 Cognac, Claret, Green Tea, Lemon & Spices in front of us, a mistake at the bar apparently, a welcome mistake for us. A lovely drink but we felt a bit stupid drinking out of a huge glass with two straws, somehow it didn’t quite fit in with the feel of the Hawksmoor, bit too girly.

Seeing as Ade has an irritating habit of not ordering the same thing as me, we are set to return so he can have a Shortrib French Dip. And I’ll no doubt have one too. Even if they are pretty expensive, a great way to spend a tenner. The Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar: come armed with money and empty stomachs.

A lovely place where to go. I would define it as in between a classy restaurant, and an easygoing diner. I loved the lights and the high bar tables. It can even become very intimate and I would go there for a date.  Also if, the place is well known for steaks I tried out their chicken, which was quite tasty. We ordered together with it some sweet potatoes, which were amazingly good. However, the place is quite expensive and I considered the menu a bit limited.

Hawksmoor is home to one of the finest roast dinners in London, presumably the world. The steak is always cooked to perfection and melts like butter under your knife.

Personally I find the service slightly formal for my liking however this is a traditional establishment and if you want a bit of liveliness you can head downstairs to the cocktail bar. So I did, and the negroni I had was sharp and warming, the cocktails here are well executed.
It's close for me between Hawksmoor and Goodman's (Canary Wharf) for king of the steak however when it comes to a large group looking for a traditional roast, I don't think it can be beat

I had the best steak of my life at Hawksmoor. It needed no frills, no sides, and no sauces; it was just beautifully grilled and amazingly succulent meat. One piece of advice – go with a group of friends.

You see this isn’t a place for a romantic date for two, this is the type of place you go with a gluttonous group of friends so that you can justice to all the meat and sides.

You need to do this because the best cuts come in gigantic sizes like 800 to 900 grams. I mean on a good day, I could do maybe 300 gm but sharing a 900 gm steak between two people is so out of my league. I went with a friend and we finally settled for the Rib eye and Fillet which totalled 750 gm and ordered 2 sides – a light healthy salad and some yummy unhealthy triple cooked chips. But I wished I could have tried more – I wanted the creamed spinach and the mac n cheese and all that good stuff.

That’s when I realized you have to come in a group. It’s way more cost effective because then you can share the gigantic 900 gm steak between four people and get to try all the delicious sides on offer.

Guide to Hawksmoor Steaks

I also thought I’d write up a little guide because I found it quite bewildering initially on which steak to choose. The first four are offered as fixed sizes on the menu so if the smaller cuts on the specials chalkboard are gone, these are probably the best bet if it’s just two of you.

1. Fillet (300 gm for £34) (about £11.30 per 100 gm)
A popular prime cut that’s considered the most lean and tender steak of all with little fat which makes it a bit lower on the flavour scale. This comes from the inside the sirloin and essentially, it’s a muscle that doesn’t do much work hence why it’s so lean and low fat.

2. Rib eye (400g for £30) (about £9 per 100 gm)
Another popular cut that comes from the rib section is the Rib eye. It has a higher fat content and hence more flavour and with a good cut, you can see the marbling of fat on it.

3. Bone in Sirloin (500 gm for £28) (about £5.60 per 100 gm)
Sirloin is a cut that from the hindquarters of a cow. It’s sort of in-between a fatty rib eye and a lean fillet that comes on the bone. The fatty bit sits on top of the steak and can be cut off.

4. D-rump (350 gm for £20) (about £5.70 per 100 gm)
This is a cheaper cut from the backside of a cow that is a little bit tougher than other cuts but has huge amounts of flavour.

The next four are on the daily specials board and come in different sizes which is best for large groups to share.

5. Chateaubriand (£13 per 100 gm)
The most expensive prime cut - very similar to the fillet but much larger and pricier.

6. Porterhouse (£9 per 100 gm)
A part sirloin, part fillet steak with less bone and more meat from the lower side of the cow.

7. T-Bone (£8 per 100 gm)
A T-Bone steak is similar to Porthouse and slightly cheaper. Again, with a fillet on one side and sirloin on the other, makes the cut both tender and flavourful.

8. Bone-in prime rib (£7.50 per 100 gm)

This usually a bigger cut with a bone in it from the rib section and again has a lot of fat. It’s essentially a rib eye with a bone.

I was recently extremely fortunate to be treated to a surprise meal at the Spitalfields Bar courtesy of my friends in what ended up being a week long celebration of my birthday! The Sunday arrived and we were all feeling a little groggy from the previous evening's shenanigans. Led unaware of our destination from Shoreditch High Street Overground, I was soon standing in front of a rather understated building with a small sign reading "Hawksmoor". With great excitement I walked inside and made my way down beneath the streets to the bar area, intrigued to see what the menu had in store for us. The bar was dimly lit, not surprising once we learnt that its former occupation had been to house a strip bar! We had managed to book ourselves one of their cool secluded little booths, I can only imagine what went on in them before the refurb!

The reason we had come to the bar is because this was the only place you could get the burgers, dogs and other meaty treats. Hawksmoor is obviously famous for its steaks but for me, the last thing I want after a night out is a fancy steak. We were looking for that sweet, juicy fix of beef and pork that you know only burgers and dogs can bring to the table and when we saw the menu, it was clear the right decision had been made!

The menu was full of incredible sounding food, the stuff that you know is going to be all over your cheeks and running down your hands as soon as you take your first bite. It took me an absolute age to decide what to go for but in the end my flatmate and I decided that to get as much out of the experience as possible, we'd order two mains and split them down the middle. We went for the Cheeseburger with added Shortrib and the Shortrib French Dip! We also ordered a load of triple cooked chips and the chicken poutine. A fine feast for five frightfully famished fellows, oh and one vegetarian (don't ask!) wouldn't you agree?

The Cheeseburger came stacked tall and well built, firm foundations from a soft brioche bun and a side order of that delicious Korean craze, kimchi. The short rib was already oozing down the sides and mixing with the molten cheese, ready for any drips to be caught on a famous triple cooked chip. The meat inside was pink as requested, surrounded by a lovely charred outer layer. The short rib worked well with the burger, combining to give an enhanced beefy hit as soon as it landed on the tongue. I wasn't too bothered about adding the kimchi to mine though, it wasn't intended to go with the short rib but we had ordered it as some of the table had never tried it before.

For me though, the showstopper was the Shortrib French Dip! This thing was packed full of incredibly tender shortrib meat, covered in melted cheese and topped off with a lashing of beefier than beef, bone marrow gravy! It was so good, I was quite sad I had to pass the other half over to my friend for him to sample. The brioche sub bun was so soft and the combination of the ingredients inside made for the most satisfying comfort food ever, one bite and you've got the biggest grin on your face!

If that wasn't enough to get your tastebuds tingling then the final dish will. This is a small but gorgeous little Chocolate Caramel Cup. Don't let its size fool you though, it's deliciously indulgent and very rich. If your jeans are feeling the strain after your mains though, you can take the slightly slimmer option and indulge in three delicious Salted Caramel Rolos!

You are probably thinking there is no possible way this could be improved right? Wrong! In June the bar menu got a few tweaks and upgrades! I was lucky enough to grab a table for the soft launch, which saw them slash the prices by 50% and this allowed for customers to order more of the new dishes and really get to grips with the new menu. New major highlights for me were the Ox Cheek Nuggets, Ox Cheek French Dip, Pig's Head Poutine and the Fillet-O-Fish! All are well worth sampling so come hungry and get ready to get messy!

Enjoy!

Amazing drinks, amazing food and good service. I'd recommended an earlier booking if you want to get one of the cuts from the board without having to buy kilo. But regardless recommend

Steaks are serious business and passion here runs high. Its man vs. the cow and the tantalizing sight of beef all round gets the adrenaline going. There is a chart with the day's cuts and some of them weigh well over 600g. It makes one wonder if one person in one meal can eat that much meat!

Compared to Gauchos or Goodman's, decor is elementary. However, I prefer hawksmoor to the others places. You can ask about the cuts and the meat, whether corn feed or grass feed and the other technicalities which the waiters patiently explain.
It was a pleasant surprise that they had lobster or chicken to choose from should any one prefer not to have steaks.

They have a great wine collection to go with the food. Don't let the idea that steak houses are only for beef steak stop you from going, they do serve other meat and the shear sight of people devouring chunky steaks can be entertaining.

Beautiful venue, furnish with unquestionable taste.
Delicious food and drinks.

All the dishes I've tried in this restaurant were prepared with attention to the details.
The ingredients used are fresh, you can tell since the first bite.
In particular, the meat is very tasty, even when cooked in simple recipe.
This only happen when you can rely on an intense natural flavor.

Drinks are also very good: a choice of "Pre-prandials" with delicious unexpected notes.

Strongly recommended!

Excellent meat and scrumptious fries. The choice of wine was very good with a wide range of prices and origins to choose from. The only disappointment was the fact that even though we had booked well advance they put us on the first table next to the entrance.

My son booked us in for a Sunday Roast for my birthday visit to London. Booking is essential on Sundays I believe! He’s always told us this is the best roast he’s found so we were looking forward to our visit! The staff, venue and food were great including a surprise birthday finish - photo attached. Such a lovely experience ☺️👌

Really great experience here. We went for Sunday roast for my birthday. Service was great from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, but there were some points I think they could have been more attentive. For example, when we wanted to order dessert, once we had the menu no one came to take our dessert order, so I ended up changing my mind and didn't order dessert. Also, when we wanted to bill to leave. It took a while to get anyone's attention. While this might be minor, it did dampen the otherwise fantastic service. The food, wow! It's simple, but to perfection. Every item was spot on, not too busy on the plate, perfect portion. The roasted garlic was a great touch! It's pricey compared to average Sunday roasts, but honestly you pay a premium for quality, so it's completely worth it. I only wish I had a dessert just to see how good it might have been. Would highly recommend

This pickle booked the wrong Hawksmoor restaurant but the ladies on the reception were lovely and soon sorted and booked us a table. We started with some cherry 🍒 sours which were excellent. The menu offers loads that I would have happily eaten, we settled on the roasted Scallops to start which were divine. For the mains I opted for the fillet which was perfectly cooked and cast iron steak with roasted onions and bone marrow. Sides mash potatoes and spinach in lemon and garlic which were superb. Service was quick and we enjoyed our meal. The service of our waiter was a little lacking. We would have liked a children’s offering in the menu.

This well-reputed establishment offers a choice between roast beef or a selection of meats roasted to your preference. We opted for the succulent roasted Chateaubriand, a decision we didn't regret! What truly elevated our meal were the trimmings. We feasted on deliciously roasted carrots, perfectly sautéed greens, and impeccably roasted potatoes. And let's not forget the traditional Yorkshire pudding, the roasted garlic, and, of course, the gravy – each element contributing to a perfectly harmonious dish. The standout, however, was the meat, which was cooked to absolute perfection. The level of culinary mastery at Hawksmoor was evident in every single bite. The service was nothing short of excellent – friendly and helpful, enhancing our overall dining experience. A special shoutout to the best Bloody Mary I've ever had - a fiery blend of vodka, green tomato juice, and jalapeño - simply yum! Set against a backdrop of exposed brick interiors and decked with leather and wood furnishings, Hawksmoor creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for a comforting Sunday roast dinner.

The decor of the restaurant is art decor style, which gave the place slightt retro feel. Staff is very engaging and gave good suggestions when sought. Always checking in on you while not being intrusive. Sunday roast was a pleaser with the beef pink and tender with a thin layer of salt. The gravy, whicn was salty on its own yet complement the stuffing. Sides of carrots, vegetables and garlic round up the meal. One of the best Sunday roast in town, in my opinion. Horseradish was slightly sweet and gave the roast beef a fragant aftertaste. The restaurant lives up to its reputation as a fantastic steak place.

Read some not so good reviews about the Sunday Roast at this restaurant, but I decided to give it a try anyway. The Sunday Roast with all the trimmings is highly recommended. Triple fried chips were crunchy and tasty as well. Bone marrow was too rich for me, so I recommend skipping that and just ordering the roast. The stuffing tasted delicious as well.

TLDR; This Branch Struggles to Meet the Brands Usual High Standards. While I usually sing praises about Hawksmoor, I must admit that their Shoreditch branch consistently falls short of the exceptional standards I've come to expect. On my most recent visit, we decided to have a quick / express lunch. The host was delightful as always and the waiting staff showed commendable attentiveness. However, the food took an uncomfortably long time to arrive, definitely not an express lunch. For the first time, I decided to try their burger, but sadly, it turned out to be a disappointment. The burger patty was dry and the bun, strangely crunchy. It was particularly disheartening because I had introduced two new diners to this underwhelming experience. If you're considering your first visit to Hawksmoor, I'd highly recommend their branches in this order: Air Street, Canary Wharf, City, and Covent Garden, which consistently deliver the high-quality dining experience that the brand is known for.

While it may seemingly be a criminal offense to order anything other than a Steak in a place that prides on it as a specialty, I was ready to make a gamble and order the Chicken dish from the mains which was highly recommended! I've got to say, of all the Chicken dishes I've had in my life, this was by far the most perfectly cooked and most succulent dish. I will certainly be demanding my friends who visit London to book a table here. An insanely generous portion, which I had to doggy bag only to enjoy it the next day just as much. I also tried the Steak which my friend ordered and it was undoubtedly checking all the boxes! The lady at the front desk hosting us was extremely knowledgeable, polite and a great conversationalist. She's clearly been working there a long while. Thanks Hawksmoor for this delightful experience. Surely seeing you again in my next visit to London!

We came here to celebrate our anniversary, which I mentioned in my reservation, but I didn't expect to get anything extra. We were more than pleasantly surprised when we got a little present from the resteraunt, which we found very sweet. I don't think I really have to mention it, but the food was amazing. I can not recommend this restaurant high enough.

The food quality was exceptional, however it is not cheap. The staff were very friendly and professional. The service was very quick and décor dark but tasteful, it has a very good atmosphere and buzz about it. The food was exceptional, starters were on point, even the coleslaw tasted fresh and unique. The belly pork was soft and fell apart. The main steaks (we shared) were perfectly cooked and the sides we had were amazing. We had a house red and it complimented the meal perfectly. We also had there old fashioned cocktails and they had a single large ice cube (how it is meant to be done!). When you paying for expensive meal it needs to be this quality! Everything was on point. My only criticism would be the garlic mushrooms could have been a bit better (how, I don't know). But everything else was perfect. Overall I would recommend!
