Located in a nice alley behind hamleys. The wait was around 1 hour at 12:50 pm so we did the waiting. Post that we got a nice table with a lot of delicious smelling dishes zooming around. Our server was kind enough to explain the menu. I got the house black dal and garlic naan. The dal and the naam were made to perfection. I also got the house Tea (chai) which is made exactly like the street side Chai made in every corner of India. I loved the aura and the food. Worth the price we paid.

The food was really great, especially for those that like Asian food that's not too spicy. It's a great place to go with a group and share different plates. The service was exceptional; went on a rainy day and they provided those in the queue with drinks and umbrellas. Be prepared to wait a while though (1 hour +), but once you're in you're well looked after.

My favourite place in London to have Indian snacks. Being a vegetarian I can count on many dishes from the menu which I order all the time I visit, doesn't matter which branch you are visiting, these guys how to maintain the same taste across all the places. Dishes I liked the most - Okra fries, Pav Bhaji, Bhel, Vada Pav, Keema Pav and Jackfruit Biryani.

Excellent experience.

Visited Dishoom quite a bit lately because it’s such a nice experience and the team at the Covent Garden base make a point of remembering who you are. Every experience has been consistent in terms of excellent food (tasty, decent portion sizes, spot-on temperature, nice tableware), customer service (friendly host, server, bar-person), value for money and ambience.

A server accidentally spilled something on my friend’s jacket and was immediately on the case to resolve the concern. The host swung by straight away to handle the situation and explained the process where they’d pay the cost of dry cleaning. Very impressed by the swift response to this and felt at ease afterwards to continue enjoying our meal.

I’d book ahead if you can because waiting times can vary (between 15mins to an hour). They offer free masala tea for those who wait in queue, which is a nice touch.

It’s very noisy so be warned 😀

I've been to about 7 of these around the world and this one was pretty standard. Nothing outstanding and nothing bad.

In general for pub crawls the best recommendation I can give is to come on time to the first Bar/ meeting point and get to know your Crawl mates since arriving late will make it difficult to get to know the rest of the "Crawlers" 😎

A great place for Indian food in the Covent Garden area! We would suggest going in the daytime since evenings can get pretty crowded and you could expect to wait quite a while to get in...in case you need to go in the evening, definitely make a prior reservation on their website.
This is the original restaurant that opened in London and after it's phenomenal success, they've opened up many more branches all over London.
You should try out their cocktails which are exceptional. For starters we suggest the mutton samosas.
Their Ruby chicken is a perennial favorite (ruby because of the pomegranate garnish)!
Definitely recommended for their food, cocktails and retro vibe which totally changed the concept of Indian restaurants all over London!

Whether you’re seated in the intimate dining space of minibar or enjoying a crafty cocktail at the adjoining barmini, expect to be thrilled and even pleasantly confused by the avant-garde dishes escaping the kitchen. Deliciously authentic Indian food with friendly staff.

Hubby and I had the jackfruit breyani with the black dhall which was rich and decadent...Okra fries with the 3 condiment sauces were crunchy, yummy and not oily at all.

Our kids had the chicken ruby and the mutton pepper fry. They loved their dishes. For dessert we had the pistachio kulfi which is a must! And the bottomless masala chai is a must! We loved our experience at Dishoom and the caring, observant and welcoming waitrons added to our special experience!

Indian food with a difference. That’s Dishoom. They have several venues across London. Their Covent Garden restaurant always has a queue - especially in the evening. It’s so popular they even have a roped waiting area outside - and an overflow waiting area as well. They operate all day too - which is quite rare for an Indian restaurant. We’d eaten here before for dinner on another visit so trying their famous breakfast seemed like a good idea.

Visited this place on the 12th March,2019. Had heard alot about this place. So headed for lunch to this place. The menu was quite simple but the food was stupendous. Had mattar paneer, ruby chicken along with garlic naans. The service was prompt too.

Was quite amused to see the crowd in there. The elderly Korean couple seated next to us asked the server to order the same we had ordered and licked to every bite they could gather.

Cheers!!

Went on wed 6pm, waited for 30minutes for a table. It is nice to be given complimentary chai tea (or mint tea) while we wait.

We ordered the chicken briyani, chicken ruby and okra chips. The food did not let us down. It was so delicious, flavourful and authentic (My Indian companion gave it the seal of approval 😋👌)

We will definately be back to try the other items on the menu.

Well visiting this place has become like a checklist item you have to comply with ..after 4 attempts of one hour plus waiting time finally allowed myself a little more time and patience to get in.. The thing I liked was the fact that dishes were as spicy as you would get in India and not optimised that much to suit local palate..
Ambience is alright tad hyped up .. Food is worth the wait tried our chicken ruby, prawn Koliwada, the daal and they were mouthwatering level
Will go again provided I can take out 1 hour 1 more time :)

Visited Dishoom for dinner yesterday and it being Saturday night was welcomed with a 1.5 hr wait in the queue. But having travelled all the way just to try this place we thought what the heck..lets go for it. They do give you some nice chai to sip on while you wait in the queue. So finally when we manage to grab a table all we care about is the food.We order for a pav bhaji, okra fries, veg samosa, mutter paneer, roomali roti and garlic naan. The pav bhaji is creamy and I cannot explain the joy of eating pav after a long time in London. The samosas are okish...Not exactly the way they are made traditionally. The star of the evening are the okra fries..boy you could just finish this whole bowl by yourself.. deliciously crispy! The mutter paneer tastes a little sweet to my Indian palate. The naan is better than the roti. We wash it all down with nimbu paani and good old Thums up! Coming to deserts its gulab jamun and pistachio kulfi. The gulab jamun is soft and nice but the kulfi clearly steals the show. The service is great and it is really commendable the way they handle the crowd. If you are planning to visit this place do not I repeat do not miss the okra fries!

We went to Dishoom for brunch and were seated almost immediately. I had the Akuri eggs which was spiced scrambled eggs (supposedly 3 eggs but highly doubt this unless the eggs were really small) served with soft buns and a grilled tomato. It was a comforting meal, especially when washed down with a cup of sweet thick chai. My friend ordered the sausage and egg naan. It's easy to see why this is a Dishoom classic. The slightly sweet, spicy chilli relish tied the whole combination together.

Best Indian restaurant with Kenyan fusion...the chai was fabulous and The food was delicious, especially the Gunpowder potatoes. I would also recommend the Kashmiri chilli ice cream! The breakfast naans are filling but not overly heavy, with just the right balance of sweetness/savoury/spice. The fire toast is also a nice addition, with a selection of interesting preserves. the lamb beriyani ,nan, rice, ruby chicken, okra fries, grilled shrimp and a yoghurt dip.....were all delicious! Paying homage to the 20th century Iranian Cafés of Mumbai, Dishoom showcases the old school welcoming themes of jazz music, coupled with food that strikes a cord with every Indian that crosses the majestic doorway.
As you enter, you are greeted by old school jukeboxes, Parsi themed decor, stained glass lamps and a friendly server that leads you to an inviting booth.
The bottomless Masala Chai served in the iconic Railway glasses does justice to India's drink of choice over biscuits. It has the perfect hit of ginger, with overtones of Cloves and Cardamom.
Ditching the shortcrust for Filo, the Lamb and Vegetable Samosas are served with a side of Mint, Tamarind and Tomato Chutneys, the perfect combination for the savoury stuffed flaky pastry to contrast with the sourness of the dipping sauces.
The Okra fries marinated with traditional blends of Indian spices are little munchies that kids seem to wipe off plates in no time.
To end with, I tried the Keema Pav. Undoubtedly the BEST I have ever tried. Made from lamb mince that is slowly stewed in a mixture of flavoursome spices, oil and onions, the Keema is a smooth curry that is scooped up in freshly baked buns toasted with Desi Ghee. An experience that can not be explained to its full depth of flavours and emotions.
Unquestionably the deserving recipient of Yelp's Best restaurant award for 3 years in a row.

By far the best high end Indian food I’ve had.
The decor is subtle but striking and so appropriate for the Bombay restaurant vibe that they’re aiming for.
The ambience and service is great. Be sure to make use of the bottomless chai they serve before 5 pm. It’s so delicious and so worth it.
Overall every single dish that we ordered was amazing.
They’re usually rather busy so I recommend making a booking the day before to ensure you don’t have to wait in a que like we did. However even if you have to wait, it’s worth it.

I really like dishoom but making you queue is just annoying. The food is usually good and the atmosphere too but I don’t think the quality is good enough to warrant standing in a queue for an hour or two. There are a number of places where the type and standard of food is just as good without queuing. If you don’t mind standing in line for a few hours to work on your appetite then go go it...

Superb food! Everything was super delicious. Super value for money as well! The three of us ate three dishes, two deserts and two drinks for under 60 bucks in this fine restaurant in this fine location in London! No doubt the top-pest quality of Indian food. Service was courteous, prompt and very professional! I wish I could deduct just half a point for a little extra unnecessary spice in chicken tikka but seriously everything including the extra spicy tikka was too good so just ignore a little chili I guess! Chocolate pudding with spicy kashmiri ice cream and house dal were the best among our order.

The best for Indian food in London! For food we had the butter chicken (which was awesome!) and paneer tikka (for starters) with rotis. While I had beer (kingfisher :)) a friend of mine had the fennel lassi - the name raised our curiosity levels! While the food was great, the lassi was a disappointment - the fennel was only used on top of the lassi for garnishing and not used as a flavour - which we were expecting.
But whenever m going going to think of Indian food it’s going to be Dishoom!

I've been here as part of my anniversary dinner and though I was bit skeptical after reading about long queues, I would say that I'm completely pleased with my decision to go for this restaurant.

Hospitality : It was a usual cold, windy Tuesday evening and we reached around 8 PM on the venue. There was a cue of about 15-16 people ahead of us. We were quickly greeted by the server and told that the wait time is around 1 hour. As we were expecting this already, we quickly got our names jotted down. Hot tea and mint tea were being offered in small glasses (the ones we see on a stall in India) free of charge, which was quite helpful with the the cold weather. After about 20 minutes we were at the entrance and we were told to go and wait in the bar area downstairs. Again didn't reduce the wait time but better than standing outside.(4.0/5.0)

Ambiance : As we entered the restaurant, we quickly noticed, how much noise was there. Yes, even in quieter hours (after 9:30 PM) the restaurant was quite alive and lot of chatter was going around. Decoration wise, place has all the different kind of signs and decorative items you find in India. The decoration was going with the theme. Although I found that it was bit crowded and there was lesser space between tables. I would rate the ambiance: 3.5/5.0.

Service : After waiting about 20 minutes (total 40 minutes) in bar area, waiter informed us that the table is ready for us. We quickly moved to the designated place and dived straight into the menu. Our waitress came to us asking about any allergies and whether we need any help with the menu. Being Indians, most of the dishes were quite clear to us but it is a nice touch for people who don't understand or have little knowledge about Indian food. Overall, I would rate service 5.0/5.0.

Food : We ordered only vegetarian food and there were lot of options in the menu. We started with Paneer Tikka and Pau Bhaji. Both were quite good, although paneer tikka could have been bit more spicy. Chutneys provided on the table complimented the dishes. Being an Indian, I find that most of the restaurants in London, even the good ones, tend to tone down the spices of food to make it more acceptable to people. But in here, it wasn't like that. The food tasted more or less what we get in India.

For main course, we ordered Jack-fruit Biryani, House black dal and garlic naan. Black dal of this place is a must try and I would suggest it to everyone who eats here. Jack-fruit biryani was very tasty as well. Overall, I would rate food 4.5/5.0.

In summary, If you are looking for authentic Indian food, please try this restaurant.  I would suggest every foodie to try this place. Wait times are more but you get tables earlier then what is told at the door. You can go on weekdays for lesser wait times or place does offer bookings before 5:30 PM.Happy Eating.

The feeling of home away from home is well satisfied at this establishment. Having multiple locations open up in such a short span of time gives enough credibility to the long running success this brand has been receiving.
Have been to this restaurants multiple times and have never had an unsatisfactory experience.
The Okra Fries, Keema Pau and the Chicken Berry Britannia Biryani are a must have. Satisfy your sweet tooth with some Malai Kulfi at the end to finish of one of the finest Indian food experience in London!

By far the best Indian food I ever had and probably ever will. Had to queue for over 80 minutes but it was all so worth it!! And the staff were distributing house chai to keep us warm as we wait. The chai is a must try!!
The okra fries are absolutely out of this world.
The biryanis and curries are super good and the dessert is super weird yet amazing.
The dessert is Kala Khatta and when I ordered it, the waiter asked me if I was sure of my order. After I had it and told him that I liked it, the manager said that I was the 2nd person to like it in 3 years! I actually loved it! But then again this is personal :)

Heard a lot about this place through family & friends and finally went in for late lunch during my visit to London. For the starters we tried their okra fries which were really tasty and had good spices to it. It was not too oily which is good and we tried it with the 3 different kinds of chutneys served on the table. For the drinks we tried their baileys chai and dark chocolate chai which was really awesome and is a must try. For the main course we ordered chicken ruby (gravy) along with chicken biryani, roomali roti and cheese naan. All in all good food, good service and good attitude. Definitely a visit when in London.

Dishoom comes with a high reputation as witnessed by the queues to get in. However to me it fell short. Prices for London are very reasonable but the dishes we had were good but not enough to make me want to return. They just lacked depth in spice and originality.
If you want relatively fast service and meals to table then this is good.
Overall I know many better Indian restaurants in Central London.

We celebrated our half year of marriage together and it was a treat of sorts. From the Bhel & Pau Bhaji to the Chhole Bature and then the Kaali Daal and Chicken Ruby; although that's a lot of food, the Daal & Chicken could do much better. Having said that, the Bhel, Pau Bhaaji and Chole Bature, had something that I haven't tasted before. And given my nanny makes some great food, this tasted completely unique and totally different. May be our pallet is different considering we come from a place that has a considerable amount of restaurants serving such soul wrenching food, i.e.. Dubai! Dot one - if you're an Asian from Asia, you may differ in this view but if you're an Asian from London, this is your playground.

Typically restaurants with a lot of hype tend to disappoint you as they simply don't live up to the hype or you expect too much. In this case, however, the hype warrants the place as the food is simply superb. Each dish has a distinct taste and flavour and all very very good. Very good service as well which is a surprise given how popular the place is. No wonder that there was waiting time when we reached as late as 2300 on a Friday night! Definitely worth a visit.

This place is one of the good Indian places in London.Service is the usp of this place. They don't book tables after 7 pm I think and you have to go to the restaurant and take the table. Tried the concierge of almost all the card companies and none could get the table. While waiting outside this place we were offered chai in glasses which you normally find in small tea shops in india. We were then escorted to the bar in the basement till our table got ready. Had a Bombay colada which tasted average. We were then escorted to our table. Ordered the bhel puri and paneer roll as starters and both were very good. For the main course ordered the chole bathure and dal makhni with romali roti. Both tasted very good as the spices were right. For the desert ordered the kal khatta gola ice which was good too. The service is the best part of the experience I had at this restaurant. Service 5/5, food 4/5, ambience 4/5.

The queue speaks volumes about the astronomical standards of this restaurant -- an hour-long wait in central London? Only two words: worth it. The ambience is jazzy modern -- elegant to say the least -- and by the time you're seated, you are completely in awe with the buzz and the place itself.

The food was great -- though the chicken biryani was sadly slightly under the mark. It lacked the flavour I was expecting -- then again, I was comparing it to the fabulous biryani I had eaten in India itself, at the great Udaivilas hotel. A sign of a good biryani is a hint of the meat flavour in the rice but I could not taste this. However, it would be nitpicking and unfair to focus on a small drawback in an other wise fabulous meal.

The veg samosas were incredible, invoking a lamb "keema" flavour which was a very unique quality. The chilli cheese toast was delicious (the cheese was perhaps a smidge too strong) but the true beauties were the rummali rolls. The chicken was richly marinated and the flavouring shone through -- comfortably the finest kebab rolls I have tasted.

As the portions weren't incredibly large, we ordered some black dal, which deserves a special mention. It may not have had the traditional thick texture and masala flavouring of its native Indian counterparts, but the dal's more home cooked quality added a sense of novelty to a standard Indian restaurant favourite. The same can be said of the mutter paneer while the garlic naan was not too buttery.

The service too deserves a special mention -- London restaurants may be known for their courteous service, but this was friendly. Our waier, Jack, helped us with everything: from the request for chopped onions to bringing another waiter in to talk to us about Bollywood. There was a welcoming air about the restaurant and this can largely be accredited to the vibrant service.

Last but not least, the bar is vast with a wide array of alcoholic drinks to offer. Being below the legal drinking age, I myself only had a lasso which was well executed. Overall, a memorable experience and perfect for a hungry London tourist!

I really cherished my meal at this bustling restaurant for multiple reasons; here are a few:

Firstly, the 45-50 mins queue prior to entering the restaurant was really worth it as the following food and ambience was awesome! In the queue we were served some hot chai and fresh mint tea which really helped in the cold atmosphere here in London! One drawback was that someone has to be part of the queue at all times therefore you can't just leave a phone number and wait for a call...you have to be a part of the whole experience!

Moving on, the cuisine is reasonably authentic and is not completely stepping out of the Indian food I was longing to eat. In fact the tea 'chai' was served in those traditional indian glasses you get at restaurants in India (only indians would understand)! A little food for thought here is that tourists may find the food a little spicy - honestly even I did!

Lastly, the buzz and vibe makes you feel at home! There wasn't a single second where I pulled out my phone to escape the atmosphere - the music wasn't too loud, the location was perfect and its an overall brilliant experience!

All together a memorable experience!

Dear Diary,
Dishoom has become one of Londoners most favorite restaurants. They have 5 restaurants all over London and I remember visiting the first one when it opened many years ago- till date they successfully managed to maintain their quality and have only gotten better! We went there for breakfast and ordered their Kejriwal, Akuri, Bun Maska, Keema Per Eedu and Egg Naan Roll. All of these are a must try if you’re going for breakfast. My personal favourite was the Keema Per Eedu which is Keema served with buns and fried eggs with Bun Maska obviously! Dishoom is a win win any time of the day.

3 days in London & my Indian palate was pretty much bored with the overload of fish and chips and also tired adjusting to the lack of spice in food, Dishoom acted as a saviour amidst the transition period.
Catering the Indian cuisine, Dishoom has worked well toning down the spice content of the dishes catering to the local needs, but on its efforts to do so they have managed to keep the Indian flavours intact.
A friendly set of staff over here at Dishoom, always there to cater to your needs with a smile on their faces.
The dishes are a bit on the pricier side, but one wouldn't mind to dish out few extra pounds for a tasty meal.
What surprisingly lacked in their menu was lack of lamb dishes in the main course, back in India we do have some delicious lamb preparations in the mains.
Nevertheless Dishoom satiated our craving for Indian food, and they worked well on not making us feel homesick.

Having read a host of reviews and recommendations to try Dishoom, I finally decided to pursue the option. Made a reservation in advance and luckily escaped waiting in the long line. Dishoom is a beautiful place, the interiors are quirky and reminds you of India from decades ago. The place is always busy and bustling so a reservation is recommended to avoid waiting for long hours in the long queues.

Placed an order for nimbu soda, pav bhaji, Bhel puri, Chole bhature and vada pav. Everything was perfect except for the Bhel puri may be, which was average compared to other dishes. However, the bhature were soft and the chole were delicious. The Pav Bhaji was authentic and it tasted a lot like the one cooked at home and the masalas were balanced too.

I enjoyed the zesty nimbu soda and it was indeed a refreshing drink.

I loved how friendly the staff was and how quick the service was too. It was indeed an experience I relished thoroughly :)!

Dishoom offers a nice fusion take on Indian cuisine, and a somewhat tapas-concept does a lot for a great night out with friends. The venue itself is very good looking, and has a smooth vibe with soft music. Went there during my last visit to London. Got to know about the place after going through the reviews on zomato. Being a vegetarian there are limited options available to dine out in London and looking at 4.5+ average feedback Dishoom was a must visit. Stood in the queue for more than an hour to get table on a cold windy evening, but the hostess at the entrance made sure to that our wait is comfortable by serving us tea in short intervals (God bless her !). Food was excellent and authentic and so was the collection of wines. The server was very helpful and polite even as we took pretty long time to place the order. Dishoom heard so much about it that a visit was inevitable! Decided to try the breakfast menu. Got there an hour after it opened and a line had already started on a very wet Sunday morning. If you plan on going be ready to queue and wait for your table. The wait staff is excellent and the waiter was very attentive and helpful with the options on the menu. I ordered the eggs (made like scrambled eggs with a paste and served with soft bread - delicious but was served cold when it arrived on my table), chicken livers (decent flavours but was cold when it came to the table), carrot and apple juice mix and chai (delicious and highly recommended).

If only the dishes are served piping hot it will add to the flavours.

Overall a good experience.

Here's the thing, there is such a hype associated to this place. The food is good but i don't think it's amazing. It's basically overpriced Indian street food. Yes it's tasty but i think I have been to better and cheaper. The massive queues always put me off going and the fact that you cant make table reservations for 2 people is annoying. If you haven't been go, but I wouldn't say that i have craved the food since my last visit a year ago. The cocktails are great!

This was a lunch with a couple of friends that really wanted to try it out. My first time to visit.

Welcoming guests: 4/5
Staff were attentive and we were seated almost immediately. No waiting times.

Atmosphere: 4/5
Beautiful location, very themed layout and experience.

Menu Selection: 2/5
The menu is to the point and quite basic. A limited variety of dishes to choose from.  There were your standard curries, dry foods and then the specials. Approximately a total of 15 dishes in total from which around 4 caught my eye.

Main Course: 5/5
Did not go for starters and straight into mains.

1. Lamb Chops. Absolutely delicious! Full of flavour and the portion size was amazing.  5/5

2. Chicken Biryani. This was delicious. It was served in a clay pot and was filled with flavour and spice. The food was also temperature hot and fresh.  4/5

3. Far Far. This was on the side, similar to papadams but colourful and tasty! Nice to compliment the food.

Deserts: 0/5
1. Ordered Ice Gola. Absolutely disgusting, could not even swallow it. They refused to take this off the bill despite us not even eating it.

2. House Tea. This again was horrible, it was sour and tasted off. This was also not taken off the bill.

Service: 5/5
Service is general was excellent. Staff had good knowledge of the food and menu and were attentive at all times. Kept asking to make sure the food was good.

Price: 4/5
Total for our experience for 2 was approximately £80. This is good.

I was told by a zillion friends before I left for London that Dishoom was a sure not to miss. My curiosity took me here and I now know why people insisted I visit.

These folks serve some great Indian food and their staff are extremely friendly and helpful that you feel at home in hardly any time.

We called for a Far Far, which are the colourful lemony crisps that took me back to my childhood as I ate a lot of them as a kid. We were told their Kheema Pau was a must have so we gave it a try and loved it too. Soft Pav served with well cooked kheema in Indian spices. We called for Chicken Ruby with Romali roti too, it was amazingly delicious and the romali was soft and melted in the mouth with the Ruby Chicken. We then also called for a Steamed rice with Black Daal that was great too. A typical Indian meal and every dish was made well with the perfect amount of spice and tasted great.

We ended the meal with Chilli Ice cream and a brownie. The ice cream was made in-house and was unique. We hadn't heard of Chilli Ice Cream in the past, It is a sure try at Dishoom.

This place is sure going to be on my list of must visit whenever I am in London.

Every one of my friends suggested me to visit this place. I was curious if an Indian restaurant outside of India can produce food as good as what you get back in India? Mumbai food?

I stepped in and loved the ambience. The queue outside was a bit long for the walk ins. But I was glad I made a reservation. Loved their akuri when I went in the morning and later that night their paneer and mango, Vada Pav, paneer tikka and the biriyani. Mouth watering.

Amazing..

I just fell in love with this place the moment I stepped in!

I had so many dishes on the menu after so many days of being deprived on Indian food that I was bloating!

The queue outside was impressive and the service was super slow! But the food was amazing and worth the wait.

Will definitely return !

The food here is amazing. Whether or not you like Indian food, you really should give this place a try. The food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is great - it's like the whole place buzzes with energy. Service is attentive and food comes out very quickly.

The Chicken Ruby was the star of the meal. Although this was curry, it didn't taste like the stuff you'd get at other Indian joints. This was much deeper, incredibly rich and absolute comfort food. Certainly not something to eat if you're on a diet, but then again, don't come here if you are.

Vegetable Biryani was delicious. The veggie one is a good idea if you're going to be ordering a lot of protein. The flavor was very aromatic and a nice compliment to everything else on the table.

Spicy lamb chops are a good choice as well. Cooked very tender, served on a nice wooden plank. Definitely something for the non-curry folks.

We ordered a lot more stuff, but these were the standouts. The cocktails were also all great and for dessert, get the Memsahib's Mess. It's basically like you're eating strawberry with fluffed butter. It was so good, but not for the faint of heart.

Overall, meal was fantastic. Everything is SPICY so if you can't handle spice, maybe look elsewhere.

Really good Indian food, and it has not been altered to suit the English palate. For e.g., you get Indian style chicken tikkas here, do not expect chicken tikka masala. Not too many options for vegetarians, but the options are better than most London restaurants! Since this is a Bombay style cafe do not expect a pan- Indian cuisine. (Though it might be nice to update the menu to reflect more types of Indian food). Expect a long wait at the queue outside, as there is no concept of booking a table in advance. You will be given lukewarm masala chai while you wait. I loved all the kitschy posters and photos and all the lovely anecdotes of British/Indian history. A must visit for Indians, especially if you are craving for Kingfisher or Thums Up or just missing Indian food and don't mind paying a bit for it ;) oh yes, be ready to shell out a bit for the food here.

Worth the wait. Usually have to wait 1 hour for a table as you can't book. The restaurant is completely packed out and deafeningly noisy however, this is London and this is a Bombay style cafe. Not your average Indian food, I would highly recommend the Dahl. The murgh malai and lamb buryani were very good. A fresh take on Indian dining.

Dishoom had been on our list for some time now as we had heard heaps about it and its regarded as one of the must visit Indian restaurant’s for a cool Indian dining experience. So we managed to get a table on our recent visit and it was well worth the visit.

As a concept, it’s the reincarnation of the extinct Iranian cafes, which were much loved and widely spread at one point in Bombay. Dishoom borrows its inspiration from the story of these cafes and some part of the décor but that’s about it as everything else such as the menu, food, many design elements are unique to Dishoom.

The place is designed in a very simple yet classy style with a large space spread over two floors. They offer a wide variety of dishes with some real fun street food options and everything presented in a new age fresh manner. Everything we tried from the menu tasted pretty good.

The staff and service were pretty decent. A little more expensive than what you get elsewhere but Dishoom is a brand experience so you pay for that ☺.

Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy new Indian concepts with authentic tasting Indian food.

If you are looking for Indian food, definitely should try here - good atmosphere + good food. This is a sharing concept. Dishes are not that huge, but we liked it as it means we can order more dishes. Remember to book ahead though, or you would end up waiting for a long time.

We ordered the following:
1. Pau Bhaji - the bun was very soft and hot when it arrives. The mashed vegetables + hot bun = yummy
2. Dishoom Chicken Tikka - didn't really fancy this dish, but mainly because I don't quite enjoy having something with no gravy. Others at the table thought it was a good dish though. Chicken was moist and a plus is that they use chicken thigh for the tandoor.
3. Green curry prawn: loved this dish - prawns were very fresh and good balance of taste / spices in the curry.
4. Garlic Naan: bread itself was good, but would have preferred more garlic in it.
5. House Black Daal - supposed to be their signature dish. Rich and very comforting dish.
6. House Chai - this was my favourite!!! Excellent taste. For the tea alone, i would give it a '5'. Plus, it's bottomless. Definitely recommend this.
7. Kulfi - ordered the pistachio kulfi but again didn't really taste the pistachio and found the kulfi quite sweet.

Let's admit it. London's idea of Indian food is on average a poor match to the original variety, spice and taste of the food in the country. That said, Dishoom is one of the best places in the city for Indian - specifically Bombay food! Even on a student budget, while living in London I managed to stand in long queues on many a chilly winter evening to have food at their Covent Garden outlet. The place is very popular and is always crowded. Do not go during dinner if you can't wait patiently for atleast 1.5 hours. They have tried to copy decor from parsi joints in Bombay and have done a very good job of it. The interiors are warm and friendly.
Must tries: Pau Bhaji, Keema Pau and Ruby Chicken.

So finally in London and the first place i'm dragged to is the super happening Dishoom. I've never been a fan of eating Indian food in a foreign country cause they almost never get it right.

But having heard about this place from colleagues all the way from India, I was quite intrigued to see what the fuss is all about. We went down to the Covent Garden outlet on a pleasant Wednesday evening and I was stunned to see the long lines outside even as early as 7 30pm. The average waiting time was an hour 20 minutes and that is something I haven't seen in restaurants in Mumbai either.

The venue has 2 levels, a ground level with a bar and also a lower level with lesser seating and a bar. The place was absolutely packed and buzzing, just how a restaurant with such hype should be.

The menu has a mix of different cuisines from India including popular street food from Mumbai like pav bhaji, bhel, kheema pau etc. For drinks we ordered the classic thums up, mango lassi and the bhaang lassi with a shot of rum in it. The mango lassi was topped with cumin seeds and was lightly flavoured and thick. The bhaang lassis too seemed well made with a purple colour and just the right shot of booze.

For starters we ordered the lamb samosas and the grilled prawns. Served along side the customary fryums and chutneys the starters were just spot on. Im not a fan of lamb but these samosas were just brilliant. Great flavour and sprinkle that huge chunky lime on them and you are in food heaven. We also ordered the classic vada pao and they did a mighty good job off it. The vada looked nice, crisp and huge and the pao was fresh. It was served hot and crunchy with the orange dry chutney and was full of flavour. Full marks there.

For mains, we ordered  a lot! Lamb chops, prawn moilee, chicken tikka, the much spoken about black dal, paneer mutter, cheese naan and roomaali rotis! The lamb chops were highly rated by my friends who said that they were flavourful and well cooked. And a second platter was testimony to that. The prawn moilee was good too. A watery gravy with a coconut flavour but had nice plump prawns swimming in them. The  black dal was classic. Rich, creamy and thick. The chicken tikka was succulent and well marinated. Sadly the paneer mutter was just average but then again, getting quality paneer must be quite an issue here.

The gravys were mopped up with the well made cheesy naan and the not so soft roomali roti but over all the main course was a winner. Flavourful and as close to real indian food as could be.

For dessert we ordered the mango kulfi sticks which had a subtle mango flavour but were creamy. Lastly, we ended the meal with coffee and masala chai in cutting chai glasses.

An amazing aspect was the super quick service. The food arrives in minutes literally and you always have a willing server with a smile around. Super efficient id say. The decor is quirky too with lots of Indian memorabilia sprinkled around. Check out the washrooms with a cupboard full of Indian medicines and toilteries!

This place has lots of hype but more than lives up to it. Since Dishoom relates to action in Bollywood, this place surely packs a punch!

Had gone to Dishoom with my Mum and sis . Staff is kind enuff to serve you variety of tea/kava(Free) to minimise your waiting time.

Now lets get to what we ordered. 1) Lamb Samosas 2) Prawn moilee  3)Chicken berry Britannia( Iranian Biryani) 4) desrerts: Memsahib's Mess and Chocolate Pudding

Food was to die for. LOVED LOVED LOVED it!! prawns were so fresh and flavoursome that you could almost taste the sea with every bite..... Biryani was tangy and soulful ..samosas were crispy and not overpowered by too many spices...
DESSSSSSSERTS!!! i dont have a sweet tooth...not a fan of chocolates or ice cream or cakes ... When when they are made with such perfection (no too overly sweet) as made by  chef@ dishoom .. you just can say nemore that you are not a dessert person ... i proudly say  YES, i am a dessert person and not all dessert need to be overly sweet to taste good. Chocolate pudding had kashmiri chilli in it ( such wonderful surprise) and memsahib's mess was by far the best dessert ever... loved the meringue...rose flavoured fresh strawberries ..aromatic gulkand  ... I had heard a lot of great things about Dishoom before coming to London and I was excited by the prospect of eating here. I was informed I might have to wait as they don't take reservations for a group below 6 guests. So, we arrived for dinner and were told to wait for approximately 50 mins and got seated in about 30.

I loved the the modern yet classical ambience of the restaurant with frames of old Indian posters encompassing the walls. This modern Bombay cafe is designed perfectly for a great dining experience.

The menu had many fiery classical favorites from India and I was excited to dig in. For small plates we ordered PAU BHAJI, BHEL and the PRAWN & POMELO SALAD. The pau bhaji was prepared wonderfully and the flavors were spot on. However, the bhel was not what I expected and it was a bit sweet for me but had a fresh and unique flavor with the pomegranate. Finally, the prawn and pomelo salad, although not so much 'Indian', was refreshing and the prawns were cooked perfectly.

Moving to the mains, the highlight & surprise of the meal was the HOUSE BLACK DAAL... no wonder its their signature dish. Moreover, the CHICKEN RUBY, which can be considered to be their version of butter chicken was also packed with the right flavors. If you're looking for something grilled and you enjoy lamb make sure you go for the very succulent SPICY LAMB CHOPS. For a rice dish we tried the CHICKEN BERRY BRITANNIA; good but not the best version I've had of this Irani specialty. All were accompanied by the DISHOOM INDIA PALE ALE which was the only disappointment of the evening.

All in all, I had a delightful dining experience here and the staff were incredibly friendly. I will definitely recommend Dishoom if you are looking for some fresh and vibrant Indian food with a near perfect atmosphere. It's perfect to go with family, friends or your significant other and i'll be looking forward to coming back, maybe this time for their raving breakfast!

The food options and drink options especially masala chai reminded of homemade chai. The menu is designed very accurately and it's apt. Every famous Indian dish is on the menu. From Dal Makhani to Vada Pav with fresh chili and Mumbai's favorite Bhel. We ordered Vada Pav and Bhel. It had the local flavour, what we experience back here in India is what exactly we got here. I had already been to the Dishoom in Kings Cross, so had high expectations. In short I wasn't disappointed, but the venue wasn't quite as good as the Kings Cross outlet, it was a lot smaller and we felt a little rushed as the queuing people outside could see us and clearly wanted us to hurry up...

We ordered all the 'small plates' and all of the 'grills', everything was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the black daal.

We also ordered cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table - the barman was great, he explained what he was doing and all the different ingredients which added to entertainment as my friends hadn't quite realised what they had ordered, and upon seeing the barman rinse the cocktail 'jars' with absinthe had some questions.

All in all a great experience and still my favourite Indian restaurant.

The food was well seasoned and spot on for 'indian cosine' the service was 'fun' in terms of staff interacting with you on a 'mutual friend level' atmosphere was high end layer back experience. Not all corners in the restaurant you'd experience the same experience. There a more secluded area to a well light one it really just depends on personal preference.

Would I go back to this place? Yes. But this time I'd try their hyped breakfast menu.

Queue for around 40 mins then you'll get in but they will always say an hour and 20 mins. When you settle in at the bar, order a drink then usually 10 mins later you'll be seated for some good hearty and quick Indian fix at a rather reasonable London price.

Not an Indian food expert so I can't tell but for I'm loving their okra fries, garlic nan and grilled chicken and lamb.

Dishes look small but quite filling so beware of overeating!

The long queues outside this place irrespective of the weather is a testimony to the popularity of this place. Dishoom is a genuine recreation of a Bombay Irani restaurant, in a time when the originals are almost extinct back home. Tried unsuccessfully visiting this place thrice, had reserved a table the fourth time for a Saturday morning. The Bombay omelette and Kejriwal on toast were outstanding, the Egg Bhurji and Chicken Keema were pretty good too. Also heard that the rolls here are worth trying, probably the next time. The chocolate masala chai is a must try. Good selection of cocktails and interestingly named, for those who are from Bombay. I believe there are 4 outlets now. Friendly staffed and moderately priced, definitely worth a visit, wont disappoint

Before this weekend, I had never eaten breakfast here. Their lunch and dinner menu is fabulous, and I distinctly remember their murgh malai (the gravy… mmmmhh) and paneer tikka (anything that involves paneer gets me salivating). Their breakfast menu, besides being delightfully eloquent, is quite extensive and whilst it sports a couple of items that could be classified as Western with an Indian twist, some are distinctly Indian – my grandmother always used to make me the ‘Bombay omelette’, with onions and fresh green chili!

The first time I went to Dishoom, many years back, there was no waiting, no queue and I absolutely loved the experience. Since then everytime I have been there, the queue has just kept getting longer and longer and its popularity is crazy! A lot of people think the food is overrated but honestly I still enjoy the food everytime I go there. It isn't the best Indian food you can get in London but I do like some of the dishes quite a bit. What I absolutely love and the reason I enjoy going there is the ambience and the decor, which is designed keeping in mind the parsi cafés in Mumbai (Bombay). Just being there takes me back to Bombay and brings back a lot of memories. This time we waited for almost 40 minutes to get a table but while we were queuing outside in the cold, we were served some hot chai tea. After securing a table, the order was taken quickly and the food arrived early too. The service I have to say was impeccable and the food did not disappoint. We started with the kala katta sharbat (drink) and vada pav, then thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Tikka and lamb boti Kebab with a roomali roti followed by the famous berry Britannia (berry pulao). Didn't go for desserts this time as we were pretty stuffed but they have some interesting desserts too. Had a really good time yet again and totally feel it's worth queuing for!

This is a must visit for tasting delicious Indian food. Very reasonably priced and the dishes are awesome. We tried the small plates of okra fries, vada pav, pav bhaji, and the chicken tikka grill, paneer tikka and vegetarian dish the house of black dal. Every single dish was perfect and left nothing less. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and I highly recommend it.

Dishoom has been at the top of my ‘want-to-go’ list for AGES having heard only rave reviews from friends, but it always got side-lined as they don’t take reservations for dinner, which I always find a bit tricky! But the time had come. So Michael and I met Sophie and Simon at Dishoom, Shoreditch at 7pm on a Friday night. We had been warned about the queue, but we were committed to the long haul, all-in for the end game.

Have to say the food in Dishoom is absolutely amazing.

Really good value as well.

My only complaint is sometimes the girls on the door haven't been great and quite rude but last time I went they were great so maybe they took this on board!

Our waiter was fab though!

I recommend the following:

Brunch for 2 people ( £20 Total) :

- Chai Tea is a must with unlimited refills. It is absolutely delicious
- Bacon Naan Roll
- Sausage Naan Roll ( Share the two rolls so you can try both)
- 1 x Fruit and Yoghurt

Lunch/ Dinner

Starters:

- Lamb Samosas
- Okra Fries
- Prawn Koliwada

Mains:

- Mahi Tikka
- Chicken Tikka
- Lamb Kabab
- Masala Prawns

Sides:

- Black DAAHL
- Raita
- Roti Bread

Dessert:

- Mango Kulfi

We were planning to visit Dishoom for quite sometime, after three attempts we were lucky to get a table in approx 40 minutes time. Here in London most of the Indian restaurants can't match the food quality back home, however, Dishoom does this job much better as compared to some "highly rated" restaurants. Food was really yumm! each dish that we tasted was really nice, specially biryani & pav bhaji(must try). Ambience was quite authentic and service was really speedy. I will go to this place again for sure. :)

If you are from South Asia or simply put the Indian subcontinent this is a must go place for that perfectly simple Mumbai food. The ambiance is buzzing and the music is great too. The decor is that of Mumbai Irani cafe but with an English pub touch to it. Upon entering you are welcomed by 70s and 60s Bollywood posters and some lemon chili wall hanging, this is just the warm up to how authentic the food can be. We ordered the Pav Bhaaji and Kheema Pav as we weren't hungry to feast on the biryani. Boy! Were we surprised to taste a real Bombay style street food thousands of miles away? The pricing and portion size is a steal. Close your eyes and head there. It's close to both Leicester Square and Covent Garden underground stations and the walk from Covent Garden on Long Acre street is lovely.

I don't like indian food that much but this restaurant was a good surprise. Maybe the curry smell around the room was too intense but after a while you don't notice it anymore. The chicken tikka masala was too damn spicy (!) but the coconut shrimps were just delicious! Waiting in the line for 1h30 was a bit too much, but well we were 10!

Really great indian food. Fantastic Dahl, excellent service - really can't fault it. We went on a weekday lunchtime - it was packed. Apparently there are queues out the door for dinner. I can see why. London is overrun with Indian restaurants, but it is strangely hard to find a really good one. This place does what it does with style and class. Totally deserves its reputation.

Amazing Indian food, authentic atmosphere, nice decoration, friendly staff ( I think this is a common attitude in most of the UK restaurants)

Last sunday evening we saw a huge queue in front of it and decided not to wait for it. When i saw no queue in a weekday morning, I thought I should try breakfast at least and it was a right decision. Kejriwal which is two eye egg on a cheese toast with several herbs was really delicious. And it was served very hot, the way I prefer...

Heard a lot about this place and thought of giving it a try during our visit to the city of London. With a wait time of 90 minutes it was sort of a turn down but we thought of getting in the queue. Surprisingly most of the visitors were not Indians and for sure it shows how much is Indian cuisine popular in Europe and Western cultures. After around 45-50 minutes, we managed to get a table. Luckily they have heaters installed outside for people waiting to keep them warm and they also serve "Chai", which is a good example of Indian hospitality! The place is nicely done with good ambiance of Mumbai style Iranian Cafe but the food that they serve is more of a mix pot of all Indian cuisines that varies from Mughlai to Street food. Overall the food was good to taste buds but is accustomed to suit the non spicy audience. They have Limca, Thums up and Kingfisher to bring that Indian touch to the beverages too. Overall a nice experience but a little steep on value for money! A must try for Indian food lovers overseas.

Dishoom? Best Indian Restaurant in Covent Garden serving more than just the usual curries and baltis. Crowded ambience most of the times, so a table reservation is always recommended, especially during weekends. The place got amazing posters as well. Keema Frankie along with the Malabar Coffee is a must try. For Main Course - Try Chicken Ruby with Cheese Naan - Delicious is an understatement. And to finish it off with a Pistachio Kulfi! This place is definitely more than a one time visit.

You have to wait in a line for about 30-40 minutes if you want to get in on a Saturday afternoon.
The wait is more pleasant thanks to the waiter serving small glasses of masala tea - very spicy and heavy on ginger.

Was it worth the wait? I would say definitely yes.
For starters we ordered Okra Fries and Prawn Koliwada. Both were a bit spicy and the prawns were melting in our mouths.
As the main course we had Murgh Malai and Chicken Ruby served with garlic naan. The meat was well grilled and soft.
I'm always in mood for experimenting so I ordered Kala Khatta Gola Ice. Unfortunately it proved to be too weird even for me.

Service was perfectly nice and professional.

London's been loving Dishoom. So much it's been in every single restaurant top 10 I've seen lately. And while I do understand why people would love it and am absolutely stunned to finally see some half-tradtional, half-creative Indian food in central London, I'm afraid it wouldn't quite make it to my Top 10 due to a lack of precision in the cooking of spices (which is a bit of a shame for an Indian restaurant, really...).

London is filled with many Indian restaurants and the most famous one is dishoom!

The service and staff are so lovely and caring. The place is always crowded and while waiting they serve you chai and also direct you to their lounge bar until they find a table for you. Once you are seated the staff are extremely welcoming and they brief you about their specialities. I would rate them a 5.

We ordered naan and the restaurant's famous black daal. For starters we ordered paneer tikka. I must say the food was indeed delicious! I rate them a 4.

The ambiance of the place is good but not very typical Indian type. I would rate a 4.

Overall, classical example of Indian cuisine!

Comfort food as its best!!
Rajma chawal, pav bhaji and lamb chops are my all time favourites , with the Thums Up being the perfect add on.

However the only let down is the long wait times and sometimes when they are too busy the service is not the best and twice I have had undercooked lamb served to me .

Yet the affordable price , quirky feel of the restaurant and homely aroma of the food do put a smile on my face each time :)

There are few things in life more intensely satisfying than a good curry. Bowl on bowl of complexly layered spices and warming chilli heat with a vibrancy that shocks the dull British palate.  So when I heard of Dishoom, the latest suite of restaurants taking London by storm, I knew I had to try it. Modelled on the old Irani cafes of Bombay, Dishoom serves Indian food- but not as we know it. Dishoom is to your local curry house what a nuclear reactor is to a battery- it’s not really a fair competition.

Dishoom - well it's all the name . Mumbai style Indian restaurant on the streets of London. Suggested by quite a few people to visit this place. Great ambience - 90's style Bollywood pictures and ads all around. As we didn't have reservations has to wait for 20 mins to get a table. Staff was well aware of the food they were serving and what goes inside each. We had some snacky items like the vada pav , pav bhaji , garlic naan with cutting chai and paneer roll and for dessert had the gujju chocolate mouse and mango kulfi on a stick. Vada pav and pav phaji were the highlights - really good and proper spices. Paneer roll well was not that great because the paneer was bit hard. Mango kulfi was amazing. Overall 4 thumbs up.

Came across this place when I was going to pick up tickets for Matilda at Cambridge Theatre - came for lunch the very next day!

The inside decor is retro Indian, with magazine covers & movie posters framed up on the wood panelled walls - they do have outdoor seating as well.

Their menu is rather interesting and their food is quite delicious & authentic. The staff is pleasant & helpful and the service is quick.

It's definitely one of the more authentic Indian cuisine restaurants that's value for money!

I did not know about this place until I used Zomato and looked for indian cuisine in the west end. When I was leaving, I saw about 30 people standing in line to get in on Wednesday around 7pm. Now I know the reason why. I had vegetable samosas and paneer as a main dish with naan and rice. Excellent choices with the right amount of spices. However, I think the portions might not be enough for big guys. Even though I was happy with my choice of restaurant, I still think that East London is the area for Indian cuisine.

Been to dishoom more than 4 times now . On a very lucky weekday this place will have a waiting of 50 minutes and on weekends expect close to 2 hours wait .

The menu is precise with items that is cooked and Served perfectly!! Easily some of the best Indian food you get in UK !!
Their breads are in the right size and proportions and the prices match the quality.
The bar and drinks at the basement makes some minutes of your waiting time pleasant but even to get to this stage you need to wait for 30 minutes minimum.

I have tried their variety of breads , starters , Pav bhaji and found it to be pretty good .
Very good place . Would visit this more often if not for the long wait in the busiest parts of Covent garden and Leicester square.

Food 4.5

Menu and location 4
I will reduce the overall rating just because of the long wait !!!!

I'd heard all the hype and for someone who's native cuisine is Indian, it's difficult to appreciate restaurant made Indian food... But here i was entertaining an out of towner cousin. We were 7 family members, half of us vegetarian, for whom there wasn't too much of a variety so the Daal Makhani, Paneer Mattar and Gunpowder Potatoes was their pick, while the rest of the party ordered the Ruby Chicken to add a touch of protein along with a vegetarian biryani. Everything including the Far Far starter was just impeccable.

Far from tasting homemade but not the slightest feeling of calorific regret, that was what i thought... And then i ordered the Prawn Moilee (chef's special). Hey Chef, you rocked that dish Sir!

The Chilli Martini and the Dhoble made for some very unique and very Desi tasting cocktails i would alone go back for.

As for desserts, the Guju Chocolate mousse may not be worth writing home about but it made an effort to be Indian. The kulfis didn't stand out, I've had better.

Amazing decor, ambience and fantastic food.

We ordered the dal makhani, prawns, matar paneer and chicken ruby (their butter chicken). All the dishes were soooo good. Not spicy at all so if you love your spice make sure you ask them to spice up the food.

For dessert try the gujju chocolate mousse. It has chill in it which is an after taste.

Love the cocktails too. The dhoble, the Bollybelini. Fun names and great mixes.

Definitely one to add to the list. The only reason I haven't given it a 4.5 or a 5 is due to the limited vegetarian options. We had a few vegetarians with us and the only curry option is the matar paneer. If you're vegetarian this place isn't for you.

I went to Dishoom today around late lunch time, say 3 30pm on a Sunday afternoon. Having read the reviews before I told my friend we would have to queue for a bit before we get a table as the restaurant doesn't take reservations.

On arriving we joined the queue which was not very long to be honest at the most 7-8 people in front of us. We were then greeted by friendly staff at the door then greeted by another friendly girl inside at a reception desk inside, who told us to go downstairs by the bar and wait till someone came to tell us when our table was ready. We proceeded downstairs and were met by yet another server who showed us to the bar. Another waitress was with us in less than five minutes taking our order for drinks while we waited. We ordered for a big bottle of kingfisher to share and then were shown to our table once our buzzer thing that they handed us started beeping.

Once seated our waiter came to ask if we had been to Dishoom before and explained the menu, which dishes were dry, which had curry, which were the house specials.

We then also asked him to suggest non spicy dishes for my friend which helped us alot in deciding what to order as I wanted her to try Indian food but didn't want to kill her with the spiciness of it.

We ordered one of the specials which was lamb samosas which came with three different sauces and was delicious, absolutely delicious.

We ordered the chicken berry biryani (medium spicy) and to be honest it sounded weird cause it had berries it (who puts berries in a rice dish?!) But believe me this was one of the best biryanis I've ever had. It was like how they sometimes put raisins in biryanis except this time it was berries. Must be an Iranian ish thing cause that's what it said on the menu. We also ordered mattar paneer which is a cottage cheese and peas curry, cheese naan and raitha (yoghurt with coriander and onions and stuff) to go with the biryani. The waiter was well informed about the whole menu. One would think he wrote the menu himself! He knew it in and out and even advised us on what to order to balance the spiciness.

The food was just absolutely delicious and served in under ten minutes! After we finished our mains we were provided with the dessert menu. Even then we needed help deciding between the pineapple and black pepper crumble thingy which came with warm custard and a dessert called 'Memsabh's mess'. The waiter recommended the former so that is what we had and it tasted so delicious. The warm custard was just the icing on the cake. The perfect end to our meal. we had the dessert with house chai which was masala tea (cardamom and these other spices) it was a bit strong but was nice and hot.

Overall a very pleasant dining experience. Efficient and friendly staff, delicious food and a great location/ambience. They added a 12.5% service charge to the bill and even then the price paid was so reasonable and worth every penny spent here. On our way out we saw yet another queue but this time with the waiter serving hot tea which was so nice of them. And even though this restaurant is so busy and has long queues outside they didn't rush us in any way or make it obvious that they wanted us to leave even after we were done eating, like other places do.

I was craving Indian food especially biryani and this place just made my day. Definitely definitely going back to this place the next time I'm in the area or have the craving for authentic Indian food again (which will be fairly soon haha)!!

Keep up the fantastic work Dishoom, its no wonder there are queues to dine at this place!

Chef Naved is a hard working man, I can safely say that. I still remember how sweetly he tried to indulge me in a small chat while giving multiple directions to his staff in his very very busy kitchen. The wait for an indian restaurant in London for 20 minutes shows how amazing the food was. All thanks to chef Gaurav for the recommendation. Tried their pau bhaji, rajma chawal and a few nans!! Loved every bit if it. London be it restaurants or even the locals use some kind of spices that are slightly hotter and spicier than what we use here in dubai. Their pau bhaji came with three chutneys; tamarind, mint and another one I can't recollect and each one of them was nice and tangy. Interesting decor of the restaurant; with bollywood posters and pictures of old actors and ads on the wall. Though I felt it all looked slightly incoherent yet added a flavor to the restaurant. Wonder why it's called Dishoom, maybe because the punch it packs in its delicacies?! If you are in London and want to try good indian food, this is your best bet!! :)

Having read millions of rave reviews and heard so much about Dishoom, visiting the restaurant in April 2015 had to be done with my family. We opted to go to the Covent Garden branch since that was closest to where we were around lunch time.

Kitschy Bollywood posters, quirky vintage family portraits along with retro lamps and monochrome tiles have you magically revisiting the café culture of yesteryears Bombay.

We had the vada pav which I will happily admit will give a fair contest to any roadside vendors attempt (the true test) in Bombay. The Chicken tikka roll was great and had a surprising hint of some fusion spice in there. The star dish was the Berry Pulao which could very well have been imported from any of the existing Parsi cafes in Bombay. The namesake branded IPA was crisp and without complains.

We were quite full with our first experience so could not try any dessert. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Next time we shall try more on the menu because there will most definitely be a next time whenever I am in London.

One of the few Indian eateries where Gourmand Indians throng! And rightly so. Everything tasted authentic right from bhel, keema pao, makhani dal, naans, paranthas, lassi etc. The only blip was the 'chai' which we unfortunately had at the end. It was lukewarm and tasted more of cardamom than tea. For the food it was worth standing for half an hour in the queue!

The first Dishoom I went to was in Covent Garden and back then I didn’t think of it much. I like the concept of a Bombay Cafe based in London. The website, marketing and the whole theme around it is very clever.

However, truth be told, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to Indian/Pakistani food. I can either make it better at home or it just doesn’t taste that great with the OTT food colouring, spices and oil!

That visit was surprisingly not bad. Still it wasn’t enough to convince me. Fast forward a couple of years and Dishoom has completely reinvented itself. I actually…fine I’ll say it…love their food! I went for our Eid lunch here and my opinion since then has changed. I’m a definite advocate of Dishoom. I love how they’ve incorporated some of the classic dishes from the sub-continent and especially Pakistan into their menu like the Haleem, Nihari and the Lamb Raan.

Although they can’t beat my mum’s Haleem, safe to say- Dishoom is my go-to place for Haleem among one other place, Ravi Kebab House on Drummond Street. One thing Pakistanis will always have an opinion about, is the mighty Biryani. Everyone has their own take on the perfect biryani and Dishoom tries its best to deliver. An impressive menu and a new branch in Kings Cross- I hope Dishoom keeps on getting better and better! #powertothedesis

By the way, each branch has a special on their menu which is a smart way to ensure you go to a specific branch if you’re craving Nihari or Raan but annoying if it’s too far! :( Anyway have a look at their menu and get there asap…I hear the wait time can be a nightmare nowadays so plan ahead!

If I want Indian food, I just need to cross the street from my flat. But if I want Indian food and a night out, I head to Dishoom in Covent Garden. Dishoom is inspired by the cafes set up by Iranian immigrants in Bombay last century. As a result, the food is Indian with a twist – so branch out from your go-to curries here!

Lovely Irani Cafe of Mumbai replicated in London. Good mix of Indian Street food and mains. Must try Keema Pav, chicken tikka, Black dal.... You can't really go wrong here!

The decor is nearly upscale and the staff displays courteous Indian hospitality!

Must visit whenever traveling to London.

Dishoom is this sort of busy place where you can never go to in the evening. Why? Well you can but there is always a queue outside so I tried twice then decide to go for lunch as I would not wait outside for an hour.
I was not disappointed and went there twice already. The food is excellent, efficient service and the decor is nice. All for a very good value.
Will definitly go back.

As I expected, it's the real taste of Indian cuisine & the service was perfect. The waiter served my table with wrong order & because of my hunger was big I ate it.... Then the manager said don't worry keep eating & we will not charge that from your bill.....that was very generous treat from them & the waiter Ali served us very well?

Busy, Buzzy, Fun - OK food. Friday night at Dishoom - no chance of a table upstairs, so after a short wait in the bar downstairs we were seated at a pretty crap table by the door. Despite that, I liked the atmosphere, there was a nice buzz. The service was also surprisingly good considering how busy they were. The food was fine, no fireworks, but I would not think twice about making a return visit to try more.

Great ambience and food.... Booked a table and got a fairly nice little nook to seat about 8-10 people. Food was good and very original Indian taste and flavor. Daal was authentic and paneer rolls were fresh and good. Chicken and lamb dishes were well cooked and with right amount of spices. To top it all Kulfi seemed custom made and not one of those ready-made off the shelf ones. Just wish they had slightly more veg options on the menu for non meat eaters...

West end oasis of good food. A great place off St Martin's Courtyard, the new mini food mecca. We opted for small plates: chilli cheese toast, desi fishfingers, bombay sausages - all delicious, we also had a very nice minced lamb kebab. Recommend the rose & cardomom lassi - mmmnn. With extras & multiple drinks the bill was very reasonable at about £18/head.

Dishoom. So ask me why I have waited all this time to post a review on a restaurant I frequently eat at and where the waiters/waitresses/owners and snazzy cocktail chap (who, by the way has the coolest wardrobe) all now know me by my first name and pretty face (of course)... simple. I wanted to try every dish on the menu before I say anything. Isn't that the ultimate test? A case of "let the food do the talking." What does it say? FIRST CLASS (in an indian accent of course). My personal favourite, the breakfast menu and the biriyani dishes. They leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside (no, not because of the spicy taste) but the fuzziness you feel after a mummy's home cooked meal. Fuzzy. If you don't believe me, did you see who won the award for best London Food Festival Menu? Again, "let the food do the talking."
P.s If my date is a vegetarian do I have to worry about him ordering just one dish while I sit there slobbering over my biriyani? No Sir! Diwali vegetarian menu! Genius! I see this relationship lasting...

Dishoom delights. Until 3 years ago, I always tried to steer clear of Indian food. I had a very bad take away experience when I was a child, which left me scarred and it wasn't until I moved to London that I realised that there was more to Indian food than my local take away that we used to get every Friday evening.

My favourite curry house is one near where I live in Wembley called Karahi King. I have yet to write a review of it but you can see a great one here. I banged on about it enough to entice Carly and her boyfriend, The Peanut Gallery to travel all the way out here.

Apart from Moti Mahal, which is fantastic but slightly too expensive to warrant regular visits, I haven't had the pleasure of a well priced decent Indian meal in Central London, until last week. The new restaurant on the block is Dishoom, which bases itself on a traditional Bombay cafe. Their menu runs throughout the day with breakfast items such as 'Fruit Roomali' (light roti, fruit, marscapone and honey) and 'Bacon Naan Roll' (Smoked back bacon, homemade chilli jam in fresh naan bread). Their lunch and evening menu is extensive with a range of foods including Roomali Rolls (hot grills, rolled in a freshly made light roti with herbs, leaves and chutney), Shorba (light spiced soups), Salads, Small plates, Grills, Biryani, Daal and of course, desserts.

I wanted to try the whole menu but knowing this was not possible, we ordered a few things to share. The lamb chops on another table looked irresistible so they were chosen along with the paneer special of the day and the house black daal. We also ordered some of the cafe crisps to tide us over.

The lamb chops were tender and had a great spicy crust, the pomegranate adding a lovely sweet crunchy adition. The daal was different to any I have had before, it had an almost tomato taste to it and lentil bits, which gave it a lovely texture. The paneer balls were exceptional and left me wanting more. The dishes are small and designed to share - I would recommend sharing so that you can try a range of the dishes on offer.

I really liked the brasserie setting, the room is dark, noisy and atmospheric. The open plan kitchen is a nice addition - you can see and hear the chefs hard at work. I saw a couple looking out over the restaurant with an almost proud look on their faces as people scoffed down their creations. We were sat inches away from a table on either side of us but our initial worries of being able to hear conversations going on next to us were quickly disregarded.

The bill came to £40 including service for food and drinks for two, which I thought was great value. I wouldn't go so far to say it's as good as my local curry house… but locals are always special aren't they?!

Brilliant. This restaurant is fantastic; the decor is outstanding, the staff friendly and helpful and, most importantly, the food is delicious; flavoursome and gorgeous.

We had loads of 'bits and pieces' the night we went in order to try everything on offer, and nothing disappointed...the squid is utterly delicious (we ended up getting a second plate of it because it was so good!) as is the chicken tikka, the salmon and prawns.

Wash it all down with a large cocktail and you've got the perfect night out. I loved it, and I'd urge everyone to try it.

Really great. Very cool vibe - brilliant place. We totally enjoyed ourselves. Loved the cocktails. Service possibly verging on over-enthusiastic, but sometimes speed no bad thing. Really loved the grilled prawns, black daal and famous lamb chops, which had generated some tweet traffic. Chilli martini nice but perhaps slightly too much kick (for me at least!). Liked the shaved ice desserts (apparently very authentic) but the chocolate fondant felt a little out of place, although it wasn't quite good. One of our friends had spent some time in Mumbai and said that it really reminded them of the old Iranian / Parsee Cafes in South Bombay. Over my head, but I like that there is attention to detail!

she suggested we meet at Dishoom , a Bombay Cafe in the heart of Covent Garden. In the 60’s there were 100’s of these type of cafes scattered around England, today there are just around 30. A place where lovers meet, friends converge and strangers become friends, that is what a Bombay Cafe is all about...On a beautiful sunny fall day like it is while I am in London the outside patio at Dishoom is hopping. Inside the restaurant it’s even busier...Serving food and drink from 8am till 11pm and midnight on Friday and Saturday you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner here

I’m a big fan of Indian food.. The naans, the curries and the tikka always get my stomach growling… I first heard of Dishoom from a friend of mine who use to study here… I never blog about them so here what I think in my I don’t know, 10th visit What I like about Dishoom is that they are not a typical indian restaurant with colourful wallpapers and loud Bollywood music but the decor is modern yet has a sense of calmness and electric atmosphere with colonial… And the food still packs the punch as much as the decor Today, I went for the chicken tikka and lamb kebab accompany by cheese naan The chicken is moist, tender and juicy and spicy, fragrant and charred created from the tandoori oven… Add a small drop of lime makes it super vibrant Next the lamb, cooked at pink, perfect tender and savoury and spicy from the rub and marinade.. Oh and the gooey, oozy cheese naan that is soft, salty and savoury at the same time… Stretchy dough yet soft… Perfect compliment to all the grill dishes Plus

I wanted something different for breakfast and Bombay café inspired Dishoom stood out. Starting with the house chai, the spice warmed me up but despite it being offered with unlimited refills I don’t think I could have more than two. The first dish from the menu that took my fancy was Kejriwal, two fried eggs on chilli cheese toast. Reputably named after a member of the WIllingdon Club in Bombay who took a fancy to the dish. It certainly made for a breakfast with a twist and now makes normal cheese on toast appear boring. Another Dishoom take on a classic breakfast item was the bacon and egg naan roll. Smoked streaky bacon from The Ginger Pig which is dry-cured for five days with rock salt and Demerara sugar before being cold smoked over oak chips. I may well have to ask for all my bacon sandwiches in naan bread in the future which may cause a few raised eyebrows.

I had a really good meal at Dishoom and this is now one of my favourite casual eating restaurants in London. Dishoom is a Bombay Café, which I did not know what it was and had to google. Bombay Cafes (alternatively called Irani Cafes) were opened in the late 19 th and early 20 th century by Persian immigrants (who had been coming to India for over a thousand years) and at the peak at 1960 there were almost 400 cafes, but now there are less than 30, and these cafes were part of the urban Bombay life functioning as an eating, meeting and drinking places for people of all communities, rich and poor, and they had a look of faded elegance and they offered breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dishoom tries to be like one of these cafes with an all day menu full of Bombay dishes. The actual name Dishoom can mean two things: 1) The old Bollywood sound effect produced when

The ‘small plates’ or starter proportions were generous, with a cereal bowl sized vessel presented to us, and actually with a component of cereal in it. It was the bhel - a sort of upmarket Bombay mix with the addition of puffed rice (just like Rice Krispies but without the sugar), seasoned with lime and mint, speckled with jewels of sweet pomegranate kernals, and a hell of a lot of ginger - never a bad thing. It was crunchy, spicy and very flavoursome. The bowl of skate cheeks (the cheeks of skate – who knew fish even had cheeks) were battered and looked like appetising chicken nuggets but with a better colour. They were accompanied by a fruity date and tamarind chutney which helped lubricate what were otherwise slightly dry bites. Okra fries were a great take on busying the fingers with the familiar form of chips but green, spiced and salty.

Central London is completely manic in December, crammed with Christmas shoppers and tourists like us. Folk were queuing to get into Garfunkel's on the Saturday evening that we were there. Imagine that; Garfunkel's?! I know not everyone is as food obsessed as we are. But there's just no reason to go somewhere so poor when there is so much choice at every level. Even if you're on a strict budget, you can still eat very well in London. It's not like there's a shortage of websites telling you where to go. The morning after our meal at Kitchen Table, we walk out of our hotel in St Martins Lane and straight into Dishoom . I had thought it'd be a hard sell for Mrs Bacon and our two pals but they are just happy for me to take the lead. Mrs B is initially doubtful; are we really having curry for breakfast? No we're not. Dishoom is another perfect example of a small London chain like Wahaca where things are done properly and with care. And they do a fine breakfast. It's a brasserie in the style of old colonial Bombay cafés. We happily bag a booth and have a look at the menu. No need for me, I already know I'm having the famous bacon and egg naan. I have to say everything else at Dishoom is bang on too. Perhaps if you're being picky, you may get slightly irritated at being asked if everything is ok as we are, three times. This really doesn't bother me, better that than poor, rude or slow service. The orange juice is proper; freshly squeezed and even the coffee is pretty good (usually a rarity, even in good restaurants). Of course, the fabled Bacon and Egg Naan Roll (£6.50) doesn't disappoint. The bread is lovely, freshly baked, thin, warm and fluffy with crunchy charcoal bits from the tandoori oven. As a tomato sauce replacement, you have a small pot of spicy tomato relish which works brilliantly.

The food is remarkably fast, there is not much of a starter then main course structure, you order a main course plus side orders and they come as soon as they are ready. Just to also point out the following photos are a bit shoddy, apologies if they not do the dish much justice. I had a good idea of what I wanted before I entered so I ordered everything in one go, I set out for a lamb biryani, vegetable samosas and garlic naan bread (which the waitress suggested for it to be buttered, a suggestion worth remembering) and a drink. Within a minute my samosas (£2.90) arrived nice and hot with 3 sauces that accompany the entire meal (a spicy pickle, cool raita and a tamarind chutney). Remember these are not starters but side orders so 2 samosas are more than enough, very light and crispy.

I never really fancied eating at Dishoom for some reason, maybe because I thought it was going to be a supped up modern version of a local Tandoori, but then I tried their Ruby Murray at the pop-up on the South Bank and was hooked. It really was only going to be a matter of time before we ventured into their Covent Garden branch. It styles itself on an old time Bombay café, which I have eaten at a few way back when in my traveller days, before age and comfort became more of a priority than simply travelling. How I miss those days. The ones I remember in Mumbai served a type of Anglo Indian cuisine, that wasn't too different from school dinners, but with a good touch of spice. Hours you could sit there sipping on a chai or a beer reading a book, chatting to friends or general strangers looking to pass the time, with those rickety old ceiling fans buzzing away in a vain attempt to keep you cool in the Mumbai humidity. Dishoom is one of the many London restaurants I had intended to visit but for one reason or another never got round to until recently. Since returning home after a two-month stay in Japan I've had a craving for good curries, Indian food and spices, and so Dishoom beckoned. Having read the mother of all reviews by my friend Kavey of Kavey Eats , I learnt a few interesting facts about Dishoom that are worth sharing. I always wondered what the word Dishoom actually meant - it is apparently the Indian word used in Bollywood films to represent the sound made when the hero's fist hits the flesh of an opponent, the equivalent in English being Kapow! I knew that Dishoom was modelled on Bombay cafes, but I also discovered that at the turn of the 20th century, Persian immigrants to Bombay (now Mumbai) started a trend for all-day cafés based on elegant European coffee houses. Some still thrive to this day in their original form and location and are the inspiration for this London eatery. For m

There was a slight drizzle that afternoon so we decided to retrace our steps and opted for a late lunch at Dishoom instead. Dishoom, modelled after the Bombay cafes first started by the Persian immigrants, has been the talk of many fellow London food bloggers since it opened more than a year ago and with good reasons too. The first thing that struck me was the stack of colourfully spray painted bicycles heaped next to its entrance. The bustle was unmistakable once you stepped throu

Am I the last blogger to visit Dishoom? Probably, if this list is anything to go by! For the record, I've still not eaten at Bocca di Lupo, Bob Bob Ricard (but I went for tea one day), and Hawksmoor, though they're all on my very long list of to-visit restaurants (somebody buy me a lottery ticket!). Anyway, Dishoom got ticked off the list a couple weekends ago when we found ourselves in the area, not feeling like heading into Chinatown for lunch. To quickly go over what you probably already know, Dishoom models itself after a traditional Bombay cafe, is open for all-day eating, and its name is the Bollywood equivalent of a "Pow" or "Boom" sound. The restaurant itself was smaller than I expected but really showed its size when I headed downstairs to the bathroom later on - there was even more seating room there as well as a bar. Despite it being lunchtime on a Sunday, we got a table quite promptly and never saw a queue by the door; that said, the place was almost always full and buzzing

One of the finest Indian restaurant in London. Dishoom is a chain which comes from Bombay and serves Indian cuisine in a way which can be eaten by people of all origins.

Ambience: Dishoom Covent Garden has a very different ambience than their other locations. You will always find a long waiting queue outside but its worth waiting to get in. Don't forget to ask or taste masala chai or mint tea while standing in the queue. Old indian songs in a low volume play in the background.

Food: Once in you might be asked to wait at the bar area till the time you are allotted a seat. That's the best time to try out their drinks and starters. All the starters are great but Okra Fries is a must try. As it belongs to Bombay (Mumbai) I would highly recommend their Vada Pao (which is Mumbai's most common street food). Its Black Dal is a speciality and should definitely be one of items in the ordering list. Their biryani is more of a pulao but it still taste delicious with Black Dal. The menu has a lot of options in desserts but my personal favorite is pistachio kulfi.

A must go place for Indians craving for great food and for all others to give Indian cuisine a shot.

Dishoom is one of those places that I want to take every friend visiting London to. The service was quick, friendly and helpful - I love when waitstaff can genuinely tell you what their favourite dish is and recommend what they would order based on your other choices and pallet. Being rated by my Indian boss as "a place to bring my mum to", I highly recommend this modern take on traditional Indian cooking set in an industrial 'Indian trading co' vibe of a restaurant.

I went to Dishoom once and oh what a beautiful place. Being an Indian and visiting an Indian restaurant like Dishoom it was a great experience. We ordered both veg and non veg and the food was very delicious chicken was properly cooked. Pav bhaji was nice spicy and tasty. Great service and beautiful ambience. Totally loved it and had a great time.

Dishoom is always busy, took me few tries before I managed to have meal there. If possible, try to come on weekdays just before lunch time to avoid long waiting time. So I had naan with bacon and egg for breakfast and it was yummy while my friend had kerkakwal (probably not spelled correctly!) which was chilli cheese toast with egg and I think it was the best dish for breakfast there. Then I tried their lunch menu (few days after, of course!) and the highlight was fried okra and black daal. Overall service was good, food was tasty and the place looks amazing so if you like Indian (with a bit of fusion) food then give it a try!

- The main problem is that this restaurant doesn't accept reservations which means that you have to stand in the queue for at least one hour
- At least they do offer some mint tea if you want to
- the restaurant itself is not bad, with an industrial decor
- Food is good but most of the dishes we had didn't really excite me
- What did excite me though was the chicken ruby which was really good and tasted real India with all the beautiful spices that were used
- Prices are not the best in the world
- Portions were not big but not small either... They were somewhere in the middle but they could have been a bit bigger
- Regarding drinks, they don't have any drought beers but they have kingfisher 330ml & 660ml with the latter being at £6.50. I think they could improve the selection of beers
- Service was good with most of the guys working there being smiley and kind
- We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 naans, 1 rice, 2 kingfisher, 1 rose wine 500ml and 1 desert and we paid £70

All in all, I would recommend it but I am not sure it does worth this huge wait of 1,5 hours

Good Food. If you fancy a Vada Pav and Cutting Chai in Central London, this is the place. Pros:
Good Food. Good Ambience.
Cons:
Menu too short and limited.
Limited Veg Food.
Long Waiting times even on Weekdays.

Always a great brunch, and decent for lunch too. I've tried most of the breakfast items and they're all great (they've upped their portion sizes and prices so breakfast is more of a one-dish each affair than a tapas-y pick and choose).

The sausage naan with chutney and cream cheese is my favourite, swiftly followed by the Bombay omelette and the akuri (fancy spicy scrambled eggs).

Service is always fast and friendly (although can occasionally be overattentive). On the occasion we were there with a toddler they got a high chair strapped to our table really quickly and were happy to do 'Babycinnos' (warm frothy milk).

Only complaint is that downstairs the tables are far too close together to pack as many people as possible in, with light fittings hanging too low over the table so getting out is a head-bashing squeeze.

Great variety and good food. Greeted with lemon water (was a bit surprised, even though I'm Indian myself). And was given great service.

Although doesn't feel too "mumbai street food" but food tastes pretty good so can't complain.

This is a great place - serving Bombay cuisine in London style. But they haven't messed with the taste. The food tastes 100% authentic and at the same time, it is presented and packaged for British culture. I find that very interesting.

Their Dal Makhani is just suerb. Also, there is a good selection of drinks.

Ambience is very lively, posh and cheerful. Service is also one of the best according to me, always with a smile.

The only downside is that there is a long waiting (sometimes 1-2 hrs) at absolutely any time you go. But probably it is worth it :)

I love Dishoom, the ambience, the food but what I like most about Dishoom is the Brunch/Breakfast and this is what this Review will be about.

The Saturday brunch is incredible everything about the small brunch list is everything one would want ins a indian cafe style breakfast. I went with my family and we all ordered one of each of the hot dishes, except the english breakfast since we don't eat pork. The meat is Halal for anyone who only eats Halal. I had the Keema per edu, which for any Indian/Pakistani person is simply Keema wala Unda. It was incredible and the small pieces of liver was simply the icing on the cake.

The chocolate Chai is also a favourite of mine, something that everyone should try. Continental breakfast options are also available, my sister ordered the house Granola, I know it was good cause we've been back twice just so she could order that.

I recommend this to everyone and anyone who wants an indiafied breakfast. So worth it.

Just few minutes away from the Covent Garden Station, Dishoom is a restaurant which can give you all the flavours of streets of India. The paratheys and the lassi is just so authentic.

It has an industrial look inside just like a café in Bombay. The staff was very nice and the service was great, I had paneer tikka, daal makhani and butter naan, such a delight it was!

Great place to have a really good night out with your friends, serving a great selection of drinks too, defo try it there!

Great design and perfect for lunch. Was lucky to arrive just in time before the crowds started to flood in. When leaving there was a queue and this is a large restaurant on two levels. Bear in mind if going downstairs you won't get mobile signal. Now back to the food and service. Service was good but I found it strange that they don't sell coke or Pepsi. Now they sell the Indian brands such and Thumbs up and Limca and also normal lemonade so why miss out the other. Very odd. Also they serve some great chutneys but nothing to go with them at the start which is also stranger as what are you supposed to do with them till your food arrives. But end of the day it's all about the food which was excellent and I will be going again. It's not spicy but extremely tasty. Took a little time to get out of the kitchen but not too bad. The portions are average but the grills are what you would expect as a starter portion not a main course but I still think good value. Highly recommend this place. But might be worth booking prior to avoid waiting in a queue.

Enjoy being in this quirky Bombay styled cafe. Especially love it more when they have roll-the-dice offers on Mondays - you get your entire meal on the house if you roll double 6s :)

The food is good. My fav starters would be the bhel and fried okra. Main course would have to be he pomegranate biriyani and lamb chops. They have really nice array of cocktails and mock-tails.

This is a brilliant cafe, and provides great Indian food. The menu is a limited to a selection of popular Indian snacks and street food, but this is wise since it has positioned itself as a cafe and not a full blown Indian restaurant. They still have a large number of options, and one can try the vada pav, pav bhaji, rajma chawal and many such Indian delicacies. The drinks are also delicious, and come with an interesting Indian twist. The ambiance and staff are also its strong selling points, and the long waits are a testament to the great experience.

I would also love to see some more vegetarian options, however, their house pulses are quite fantastic. The only thing that you won't like is the waiting time to get a table. This place according to me is the perfect place to enjoy a casual meal at due to its wonderful location. The menu primarily serves Indian cuisine made to the English taste. The prices for the dishes are pretty appropriate too.
The decor of the place is of a quirky flavor and has some essentially Indian items like metal cups and Indian medicament etc.
According to me this particular outlet is not that spacious and is a tad less popular than its other branch. This might not be the best of the Indian cuisine but is definitely a cheaper one.

Dishoom is that one Indian restaurant you must visit when in London. The decor and interiors here add an Indian touch to the place and the cute little bathrooms give you a full feel of street style in India. The interiors is quite simple but has a fun and quirky element to it.
The food at Dishoom is not the typical masala food .Since I love the food here I am going to go one by one . Starting with the starters ,I would totally recommend the Keema pav and if you are vegetarian try the vada pav. The chilli cheese toast is also quite yummy. From the grills I would say try the Lamb chops. I absolutely love the lamb chops here. Their panner and chicken tikka are also quite good. For the main course I would say try the Mutton Biryani ( kacchi lamb) . Their house black daal is a must with some garlic/ cheese naan .From their puddings I would say one must try the pistachio kufli and the kala khatta gola ice.House chai is a must . They also serve Thumbs Up here for all you Indians who love Thumbs up.
The only issue with this place is it is always full.I would highly recommend to book in advance as the waiting queue is always  very long.

Based on Irani cafes where businessmen sit alongside barrow boys, Dishoom tries to capture the atmosphere that is so often lacking in eastern establishments. Even at six o'clock, the places was buzzing - tables were groaning under the weight of plates, waiters were flitting around and is that a Bollywood version of a Madonna song in the background? The interior is all tiled floors, rich golds and blacks, glass everywhere - I felt as if I'd been transported into a movie set with all the attention to detail. From the art-deco lighting to the trinkets in the bathrooms and the many family photographs splashed all over the walls, Dishoom was inordinately welcoming.

We were given a booth downstairs and jumped straight into drinks. I went for a chaijito ('smoky rum and Dishoom sweet-spice chai syrup muddled with fresh mint, cordiander, ginger and lime') before trying out the Bombay Colada - and promptly finding my new favourite drink. A twist on the classic colada, Dishoom add chai syrup and lime juice to cut through any heavy cream, and mix in coriander and cardamom seeds giving the most deliciously aromatic taste.

We then started with small plates. Flavoursome lamb samosas, calamari, chilli cheese toast (naughty) and bhel (puffed rice, nylon sev and bombay mix with fresh pomegranate, tomato, onion, lime and tamarind) slipped down far too quickly. No standing on ceremony; all about sharing and passing round the table.

For mains, we shared again ordering the chicken berry britannia biryani, spicy lamb chops, lamb boti kebab, charred masala prawns, raita, house black daal, chicken ruby (their take on a curry) and lots of rice, naans and roomali roti. The flavours were so intense and aromatic, there was a totally different kind of thing going on compared to the typical Friday night takeaway. We devoured everything, mopping up the last bits of sauce with the flat roti and cooling down with the healthy-ish raita.

And just when we thought we were totally full, we ordered desserts...to share. We went for the Guju chocolate mousse, which comes rich, salted and with fruited yoghurt, and the Memsahib's Mess - another aromatic take on a class - Eton Mess. Empty bowls pushed aside, we finally decided to leave - sated - and come back again very soon.

Service was relatively quick, but very knowledgeable. As we left, people in the queue outside were given steaming cups of coffee and milk to keep them warm - a nice touch. The whole place has a nice touch and gets a four out of five.

However, when we were eventually seated the food did not disappoint. The décor and atmosphere was nothing special, but if it's simply Indian food you're interested in, then this place is worth a try. If you're looking for the finest quality, 5 star Indian food then look elsewhere. But, if you're interested good value for money and an enjoyable meal, then this is the place for you.

Due to its convenient location with less than a couple of minutes walk form either Covent Garden or Leicester Square, Dishoom is always extremely crowded for weekend dinners. If you plan to head visit on Thursday thru Saturday, expect to wait at least for 30 minutes, or worse if you come with a larger group.

The food was excellent. All appetizers come very quickly but the entrées tend to take a bit of time. The portions are fairly small however.

My suggestion is that if you really crave for their food on weekend, they have another branch very near to Shoreditch High Street, which I find has better vibes, better staff and much less crowded. Their breakfast menu is also rather interesting. The bacon naan has become my new favorite dish at Dishoom.

Although I love Indian food in general, my favorite Indian dish is Dahl, and Dishoom is definitely the best Dahl I have ever had. The restaurant has a very nice, constantly full atmosphere, and you might need to wait before getting your table (although there is a nice bar to pass time while you're waiting for your table). The dishes are small, so you can try a bunch of everything. They have a selection of curries, and different meet dishes; the lamb kebabs were my favourite (besides the black dahl of corse)All the dishes that I've tried are full of flavor and spice, very comforting and exotic. The black dahl is simply amazing: thick and full of wonderful Indian flavors: Next time I go, I'm going to order just the dahl, with a side of cheese Naan, and that prety much makes up the perfect meal for me. The dishes are also very reasonably priced. So, if you're looking for a varied Indian meal in a bustling and lively ambience with your friends, I highly recommend Dishoom. Service is also great, quick and everyone is very friendly.

I ate at Dishoom some time ago. After a lovely wander through covent garden with a few friends, we were drawn to the golden light emanating from Dishoom like moths to a flame.

The ambiance was both dark and bright, a warm and inviting atmosphere for a few close  friends to sit, chat, and share some amazing Indian dishes.

The food is like no other Indian food I've had before. The flavours are so full of heat and flavour that I imagine myself transported right into Bombay (a heck of a lot cheaper than a plane ticket!) I recommend the daal and the samosas, but honestly, all of the dishes were fantastic.

It’s almost our one year Dishoom anniversary. I vividly remember our first visit back in December 2010 with our friend Keith, and it’s remained a special place in our hearts ever since. Becoming their one and only Dishoom Uber Walli was a privilege, it may sound like an insult, but I can assure you it’s not. We still enjoy each visit as if it’s our first.

We’ve been eagerly waiting to try the new Christmas menu, especially the ‘Naughty Chais‘ which we’ve heard a lot about over the Twitter airwaves recently. Kavey describing the Egg Nog Chai as ‘like drinking clouds or downy pillows.’

Stepping back into Dishoom is like coming home, and the smells that greeted us were amazing. I started off with a Winter Pimm’s Warmed Winter Pimm’s with Calvados and cloudy apple juice, gently spiced £5.50. Ade had a Baileys Chai £5.50, wow! I guess the gorgeous House Chai and good old Baileys was always going to be a match made in heaven. There are three other flavours also, we tried them all. The only one I was slightly disappointed by was the Chocolate Chai Dark chocolate syrup, chocolate shavings, Bourbon and Chai, it was overpowered by the bourbon. Maybe next time I’ll have a non-naughty one so I can taste the chocolate. Dishoom get things right 99.9% of the time, so I let them off.

The Egg Nog Chai Traditional Egg Nog with Dark Rum and Chai, dusted with nutmeg and cinnamon £5.50 was Ade’s favourite, thick, smooth and very sweet. The Cognac Chai Hennessy VS and Chai with ground Christmas Spices £5.50 was the hardest hitting alcohol wise. Quite odd getting tipsy on warm drinks.

Right, the food… The Flaming Turkey Raan with All The Trimmings Whole turkey leg prepared in the traditional Indian raan style, marinated and cooked slowly over a whole day. Served with Bombay-style potatoes, masala winter greens, spiced cranberry chutney. Oh my god, it’s how I want my Christmas to taste. Christmas day will never be the same again, as Signe Johansen aka @Scandilious said ‘For someone who has a borderline pathological hatred of turkey, Dishoom has converted me. Their Flaming Turkey Raan is fantastic.’

I spotted one girl gnawing at the meat off on bone, like medieval times. Wish I’d had the guts to do that. The gunpowder potatoes were great too and the chutney added a sweet touch. Makes cranberry sauce seem pathetic.

And just when we thought we couldn’t eat any more, out came the Chilli Mince Pies With a hint of chilli and spiced custard. I have never been a big fan of mince pies, but add chilli to the mix and it turns into something incredible. Especially dipped in the warm spiced custard.

One nightcap turned into two, a steaming glass of Desi Mulled Wine Warming mulled wine infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and chilli £5.50, again, like mulled wine but a thousand times more exciting. And then a House Chai £2.20, it wouldn’t be right to be at Dishoom and not have one.

You know you’ve had a good meal when you go to bed with it on your mind and wake still thinking about it. And the following evening…

Please Dishoom, share your recipes with us, we won’t tell. I want to make a Dishoom Christmas this year.

One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. It's much more than your average curry house, everything on the menu could be elsewhere's special. I recommend the gunpowder potatoes and grilled masala prawns.

Dishoom's aims to bring Mumbai street style food to London, and it does so in the best way possible. When entering Dishooom, you realise the authentic interior that it has created; in a casual relaxed environment. Further, the staff are very knowledgable, and very helpful for those who need recommendations of food.

What was particularly noteworthy was their daal makhani, as well as their sheek kebabs. The food, quite frankly, reminded me of home! It was full of flavour and spice, and was very enjoyable.

Dishoom dont serve Coca-Cola, instead they serve "Thumbs-Up", an Indian version of it. This added to the experience by adding some authenticity, making you really feel as if you are in a completely different country, despite being in the heart of London.

Overall, Dishoom succeeds in delivering good quality Indian food to London. Must visit for all.

Dishroom is a typical Indian food cuisine located in the popular Covent Garden Market.
The venue brings the authentic oriental atmosphere and dining experience of the real Indian cuisine.
As a starter would say can order the Peener and Mango Salad(with fresh mango and crispy shallots) or the Prawn and Pomelo( with grilled prawn and pink pomelo, mixed with leaves) and continue with Dishroom Chicken Tikka or Spisy Lamb Chops.

As a dessert would recommend the Pineapple and Black Pepper Crumble!

Nice venue with friendly staff!

“First class MUMBAI CAFE”

An exceptional eating experience with exciting and different Indian dishes.

AMBIENCE:

The furnishings and atmosphere inside is brilliant. Atmosphere is NOISY, sometimes to the point it is difficult to carry on a normal discussion.

FOOD:

BLACK LENTILS -to die for , VADA PAV – class apart and CINNAMON ICE CREAM – best in town!

SERVICE:

Staff was COURTEOUS and helpful, and despite the long line down we were not rushed out of our table at all rather staff were ATTENTIVE GUIDES for first time visitors.

COST: we expected a fairly big bill at the end but must say REASONABLY PRICED! Starters + main course + drinks + dessert= £40(for two in CENTRAL LONDON).

FINAL WORDS:

CERTAINLY WORTH a visit. Be prepare for a LONG QUEUE even if you only want to go for drinks!

(.5 cut down for the noisey enviornment inside)

Dishoom is a place that everyone must always experience at least once in London! Whether you're vegetarian or non vegetarian the food here will never fail to disappoint! From their starters of fried okra or samosas, to their main course of daal makhani, seekh kebab and paneer masala, to their chaat and desserts, nothing is short of extraordinary! The only downside about this will decorated and superbly located restaurant is the fact that reservations cannot be made so be prepared for a queue prior to entering and experiencing the world of dishoom! Apart from their lunches and dinners, dishoom is known for its breakfast! Something i am yet to experience and am planning on doing so in the near future!

One of the best indian restaurants that I've tried in London. The restaurant is located near the busy and central area of covent garden , hence being crowded most of the times . From what I've tried , the chicken tikka roll is worth ordering . The other dish I like is the ruby chicken which is a mild spicy gravy with a hint of sweetness and buttery flavor , served with rumali Rotis, I would also recommend steamed rice that could be eaten with this gravy . The mango kulfi is worth having for desserts . One should book a table in advance and definitely try this place .

Dishoom had been on my to-try list for so long now, for their well-known brunch in particular. It just seemed that every time I remembered, it would be Saturday evening, and of course they were already booked up for Sunday brunch. This time, as we were booking a ticket for an exhibition (more on that in a couple of days, and it was an amazing one), we reserved a table for brunch well in advance and finally got to see what all the fuss was about.

We already knew what we wanted to try - their popular Naan Rolls, stuffed with your breakfast food of choice (bacon, sausage, egg). Having seen that they get their bacon from The Ginger Pig, one of the best butchers in London, we had to go for the egg & bacon. We also wanted to try out their Bombay Omelette and got a plate to share - clearly we were hungry.

Sidenote: yes, I chopped my hair off! Well, not me, but a hairdresser at Baroque which is my salon of choice (a Japanese hairdressers and they are wonderful). It was down to my waist so it's cut my blow-dry time by half, which was reason enough for a bit of a change!

Back to the food. The naan was flippin' fantastic. Neither of us could stop raving about it, and the tomato chutney that comes with it just puts it over the edge. Original yet simple, flavourful, and all about quality ingredients. We loved them.

Unfortunately, the omelette in comparison was a let-down - it was barely seasoned, and although the eggs were clearly fresh and delicious, it was just a bit bland. I was quite full and didn't eat much of it, but E managed half of it and chomped down on a big piece of egg shell! A bit unexpected but it can happen to the best of us, and they were very apologetic about it and took the dish off our bill. The naan rolls were so good that this error was pretty easy to overlook.

We are definitely going to go back for lunch or dinner one of these days, as their main menu looks delectable. I loved the atmosphere and decor of the place too - like a Bombay brasserie with a modern and stylish twist.

We've certainly made our way around the St. Martin's Lane/Courtyard area, having been to Jamie's Italian, Suda & Cantina Laredo. And now with Marcus Wareing's new restaurant Tredwell's, it's a real foodie's corner!

You can have a look at the menu and other details on Zomato.

The Dishoom experience is fantastic - from the cool decor to the delicious food. You walk into this Bombay cafe themed restaurant and are exposed to metal poles and hanging lamps, getting you ready to try some street food.

It is usually very very busy, lively and loud. But this all adds to the atmosphere! It is very unlikely that you'll get a table immediately so be prepared to queue.

The waiters are very bubbly and ready to help - they recommend the signature dishes if you're in a dilemma!

I love the Pau Bhaji, along with the rest of the menu... So far I have tried about 25% of the menu and I can't wait to try the remaining 75%! Loved everything so far. Murgh Malai, Seekh Kebab, Masala Prawns are a couple of my favourites.

This a lovely place in central london right next to the theatre district. Its not overpriced, has a reasonable selection ot vegetarian food and has a generally quick service. We went for lunch today, and dor a friday it was super busy. Luckily we went ewrly so got a table. They do booking but only for a few tables so the rest is walk in. I would recommend having starters rather than the mains. Howecer they are all tapas sized portions so yoy are going to need atleast a couple. We started with fried okra which was okay....too greasy and not to my taste. The vada pav was awesome. The bhel was okay, i never have taste ginger in a bhel before so it may not be to.everyones taste. Gunpowder potatoes was awesome while pav bhaji was just too overspiced. Went then ordered some dal.makhani which was lovely but nothing like what is made in india. We finished with ice gola which was the best part of the meal. We also had samosa which was nice but nothing spectacular. So the food had it good points but didnt think it was superb..it cost us 40 pounds which was okay. The service is pretty quick...its like they want to push us out. We had food one the table and were taking a bit of a break so the server askee we could.clear up. We said no and continued talking..5 minutes later, another lady comes and ask if she could clear and that irritated us so.we said yes. And she wasnt even serving us. Food comes out pretty quick too so its good for lunch or a pre theatre meal. But its not meant for a nice long romantic or catching up meal.

Nestled in the heart of London is this lively piece of India.   You walk in and are instantly hit by the aromas that are reminiscent of the exotic and fragrant street food found in Mumbai chawls.

Almost immediately am shown to a table whilst being made welcome- showcasing another Indian trait, great hospitality. Seated in front of the open plan kitchen you can hear, see and smell the myriad number of dishes being created which almost divert your attention from the simply presented yet absorbing menu.

If you have ever been to the city which is home to Bollywood you will know that Mumbaikars love and revere the pau bhaji almost as much as when walking along Juhu beach or spotting Amitabh Bhachan standing outside of Prateeksha.

I had to taste this simpleton hidden in an array of exotica. Arrived a clay bowl topped to the brim with a saucy potato and vegetable curry topped with a generous sprinkling of coriander. Not forgetting the well-buttered bread roll served on the side accompanied by a number of pickles and chutneys. This was as I remembered when on my journeys – simple, clean and intoxicatingly addictive.  I was left sponging the bowl with the lusciously soft bread. I wish I could have ordered seconds however I had already eyed the Tandoori prawns for mains.

Greedily I placed an order for mains with a cool raita and portion of plain boiled jeera rice. I was not left waiting long. The prawns charred in places were excellently presented on a sizzler. No sooner than the plate was left unattended on my table by the ever smiling waitress did I attack it with zeal. Perfectly cooked succulent prawns, packed with flavour infused from the tandoor were a delight to eat. The raita was refreshing and helped cut through the spice whilst the rice were fluffy and not heavy at all.

I had not room for dessert as the portion sizes were ample but coming here I could not resist the temptation of a good old chai to complete the feast. Watch out though as it will be served in a glass, only the Indian way here! Made from milk and yet more spices (not the ones that set your tongue on fire!) is a perfect way to complete the Mumbai inspired gourmet experience.

The bill, well let’s put it this way I was pleasantly surprised that food this good is readily affordable. I remember a number of Indian meals (nowhere as good as this) costing twice as much!

Adeptly named dishoom (loosely translated ‘pow’, yes those ‘pows’ from the old Batman animated episodes) this place does pack a punch. Would definitely visit again, might even bring my family!

God is on our side today, one of the Indian ones for sure. I've seen brunch queues outside Dishoom long enough to make even the hardiest no-bookings black-belt flip their shit, stifling a cry as they comfort cram an Egg McMuffin. And yet here we are on a late Sunday morning, sauntering to a table in a matter of seconds. I must've earned some seriously good karma this week.

Hindu puns out the way: Dishoom is a good looking mother hubbard of a bruncherie. An ode to the Bombay cafe, the walls are lovingly adorned with mirrors and random frames, whilst ceiling fans and ornate lamps dangle overhead. It's all very welcoming and manages to sidestep lesser restaurants whose efforts often land on gimmicky decor.

We're straight off the mark with a house chai - the only place I've been outside of Rajasthan that gets that addictive sickly sweetness absolutely spot on. So good.

Why anyone hasn't thought of sticking a couple of fried eggs on a piece of cheese and chilli on toast before now is beyond me. The Kejriwal is the perfect weekend hangover cure: hot, greasy and with two perfect yolks to boot, I was almost disappointed I hadn't got shitfaced the night before to test it in anger. The menu says something about it being a Willingdon Club favourite which is all very nice - but more to the point you'd wish you'd thought of this combination earlier yourself.

L's bacon naan roll stuck generous amounts of Ginger Pig rashers in between thin hand-baked naan breads. The chilli tomato jam was nicely spiced but didn't stray too far from the classic.

I've not got much bad to say about my Dishoom brunch experience. The portions could have been a little bit bigger but it's my own fault - should've followed the cheese/egg combo with a Big Bombay (check the menu.) I'm tempted to award an extra point for the complimentary 'ChaiFi' available throughout the restaurant. Now there's a pun I can get behind - genius.

Dishoom is an upper class authentic Indian restaurant enclosed by the hectic London atmosphere. If you are trying to impress your date for great food and a great night out then you have found the right spot.

Based in Covent Garden so you can imagine how busy it can get. Upon arrival whilst waiting in the queue you are greeted and served ‘chai’ which is Indian tea (now that is a great welcome). The atmosphere very busy and laid back at the same time, something you need on a Friday night after a long week. If you are going with a large group, then you may have to wait a while to be seated.

They have a bar so whilst you wait to be seated, you can enjoy a drink or two (includes Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages). All employees at Dishoom were extremely friendly and kind and provide you with great service throughout your time. I believe the food in Dishoom is exceptional as everything was cooked just right with right ingredients. The menu has a variety of dishes from the rich Indian culture and the food is not too hot. If you are meat lover then you would happy to know that the lamb chops were outstanding (I kid you not!).

Overall, I believe this has been one the best experiences. From the moment you step in till the moment you leave you are valued as a customer and Dishoom is highly recommended.

I really like this place.... it's queue up and wait is a bit inconvenient, and it doesn't help that you can't even have a drink because the queue is on the street. But, if you're prepared to wait you should be rewarded.

The food is effectively Indian tapas, which is novel and good because you're not over faced with just one large dish. There is no usual rubbish like tikka masala - you have to trust the menu and the waitresses and usually they'll give assistance and honest recommendations.

Having been twice, once with a friend, I won't be hesitating to go again if I'm around that area.

From the moment you walk into the doors, you be amazed by the deco design of Dishoom. A large wall clock as the centrepiece of the tremendous size open kitchen, steel metal poles with hanging lamps marbled top tables.

This isn’t your typical English breakfast; I was going to have mine Bombay style. Similar to other Southeast Asia cuisines there’s lassi’s and spice chai appears on the menu. I’m a huge fan of Chai teas and at Dishoom it’s refillable. A tiny cup presented to me. It warmed me up from within the summer cold morning, texture almost similar to The Terik silky smooth and creamy with that cinnamon kick.

Once the others arrived I had serious hard time deciding on what to eat, my heart was set for Kerjriwal, but somehow I swayed towards Keema Per Eedu.

Arriving in a mini looking clay frying pan, the white blanket of egg covered the diameter of the pan. Still jiggling around with no signs of oil, on top of it, paper-thin matchstick chips stacked nicely on top. Hidden beneath it all mushed chicken liver, the eggs were cooked to perfection, no horrible crispy edges with runny egg yolks. Chicken liver was soaked with flavour, without any spice overkill.

Modelled on Mumbai’s infamous ‘Café Leopold’, Dishoom picks up on the attraction of an already well-established and internationally reputed café. It has adopted the look and the atmosphere of Café Leopold very well, and then made it into the swankier Covent garden version.

The 1980’s retro Mumbai life look has been recreated with funky black and white titled floors, old school lamp lighting, Bollywood posters and glamorous wall mirrors. It is the look of this place that makes it so very unique and definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re a fan of Café Leopold.

Would I Want Seconds?

As with the interior the food served up is proper Mumbai street food. There is the standard and familiar dishes like Pau Bhaji and Bhel Puri, but you can also sample proper Mumbai Irani chai and Mumbai classic Chilli Cheese toast like they drink it ‘back home’. The menu isn’t extensive but the dishes are very different and so still hard to decide which treat to taste. Especially the Mumbai classics, which are very hard to find elsewhere.

The food here is delicious and not the standard Indian curries you would get an Indian restaurant. They also serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and you can come pop for a drink all through the day or up until midnight on most days.

Could I Afford Seconds?

I actually don’t think I could. The prices are high for the amount of food served, so although you might need a second helping, the price may put you off from ordering one.

Overall:

I would definitely recommend Dishoom for a visit. If the price and portion sizes put you off then I’d say go for a drink and a snack instead, just to sample the atmosphere and scrumptious cuisine.

Excellent Indian to go for dinner/lunch, the food is quite varied and because of the "tapas" type concept you can order a number of dishes. My guests really enjoyed that. The bar is great, very busy but good service,  we turned up on a busy Friday with no reservation, so had a few drinks at the bar, a little crowded but it was a Friday. If you are in Covent Garden definitely worth a go!

Although there are thousands of Indian restaurants in London, Dishoom has hardly any competition.

Apart from the menu, Dishoom is nothing like a typical Indian restaurant in London... No white tablecothes, waiters dressed in black suit trousers paired with black shirts, cheesy decorations nor super greasy food!

The theme of the place is an old school Bombay café, which used to be set up by Persian immigrants in late 18th century. These cafe's were popular among very diverse clientele. Businessman, rikshaw drivers, artists - basically people from all communities were welcomed to dine and drink there.

As one of my Indian friends said... Dishoom looks exactly like a Persian cafe in Bombay, it's just nicer and cleaner...

Food - 4 / 5 - The closest to authentic Indian food I have found in London yet. Vadapav was just perfect. Although the Panner tikka could have used more cooking and masala, but overall it was great. The complimentary chai also tasted nice.

Ambiance - 3.5 / 5 - It's good overall, but probably they can use more noise absorbents (thicker curtains, cushions, carpets, etc). It was really crowded the day we went, so lot of noise.

Service, Cost - 4.5 / 5 - Waiters were really courteous. Would cost around 15 quids per guy, which is decent enough.

So I've just moved here from Mumbai last month - and "Dishoom"s all I was hearing about from my friends and family who're based here in London - and now, it's pretty clear to see why. Note, I haven't tried any other Indian restaurant so far in the city yet, but I guess once you've tried Dishoom, you won't really feel the need to try an alternative - for those familiar with North Indian cuisine, and also, the food and ambiance of Parsi cafes that dot the southern end of the city of Mumbai, Dishoom proves to be a one stop solution to satisfy your cravings for both.

Before entering the restaurant, I was sure that there was bound to be a smattering of old Bollywood posters on the walls - rather cliched - but I liked the way how some are lit up and others blend in with the not-too-bright setting. The place is VERY busy - bustling with people waiting at the bar to be seated and others engrossed in loud dinner conversation, over steaming butter naans and portions of raan (whole leg of slow roasted lamb) and ruby chicken. We had to wait for an hour to get in, but while outside, was served some "cutting" chai - typical Indian tea flavoured with spices that's ubiquitously available across India - was a refreshing touch. Many people (non-Indian) looked at it suspiciously and decided not to take any chances - bad move!

Dishes that we tried -

Fried okra (well done - crispy),

Pav Bhaji (surprisingly good stuff! Definitely much better than most of the stuff you get back home in India!),

Ruby chicken (Why is it called that again? Very flavourful - like a chicken reshmi kebab masala in a red gravy, for those familiar. For those not - succulent pieces of chicken kebab made in a tandoor, in a tomato based gravy - perfect to mop up with a hot naan)

Dal Makhni - really good stuff! Very similar to Urban Tadka back home.

Cheese naan/garlic naan - both were very nice.

The service was good - we'd ordered a raita which wasn't brought in initially and when we highlighted that to the waiter, towards the end of our meal, he apologized and brought us a portion free of charge.

The food here is really really good - we're going to be regulars here for sure. The other things that are on my list, just because I want to compare them to the best I've had back home in Mumbai are - the Kejriwal (available for breakfast) and the chicken Beri Pulao - which is the best in Britannia, back in Mumbai!

Hope quality and standards are maintained! No. 1 currently on the comfort food charts!

A sort of ironically themed indian joint with great twists on the English breakfasts and Indian food. Had their big breakfast and a customary cocktail both of which were great. Ended with a Masala Tea which was good too. Had a great time overall and still have some breakfast items that I'd like to try for the next time and to be amidst the theme and the ambiance. Would def. recommend this.

I went here with a group of South Africans for a catch up. Incidentally it was recommended by one of them, and I was super keen as only a few nights before we couldn't get a table on the spot at the Shoreditch location (which apparently gets booked out days in advance). We were taken to the lower level. I liked the booth and privacy of it. It was quite busy on a Friday afternoon. The dishes looked amazing that I had difficultly choosing one. I opted for paneer since I don't get to eat it often enough, but it was a close tie the ruby chicken. The dish was amazing, full of flavour, nothing too excessive. I had it with butter naan. It was slightly too large a portion for me. Service was a bit slow because of busy it was. We also ordered chocolate chai, unusual, which is what caught our attention. It was slightly too intense for me. By the time you get to the end, a lot of the flavor settles there. It's also quite sweet/rich (felt it even more because I've cut down on sugar). But I know most folks would love it. Glad I got to try it before heading back home.

I was told about Dishoom by a friend and I went to see what all the fuss was about and I was pleasantly surprised. I went mid-morning a couple weekends ago fully prepared for some average brunch but it was great. The flavors of the food and drinks was just great. The house chai is amazing and not to missed. I could have easily spent the rest of the day eating Dishoom's, unfortunately I have a small stomach. For a London eatery I would consider Dishoom a value for the great food they give you for your money, as it’s not that cheap. The restaurant is elegant and very aesthetically pleasing with great staff. This restaurant is undoubtedly not to be missed if you find yourself in Covent Garden

Dishoom as the name suggest, literally knocked me out. My visit here has been an absolute pleasure. It scores all the points and I'll tell you later why it just missed out to get a complete 5 in my book.
To start with I loved the intent by its owners to revive Bombay's Irani (Zoroastrian) cafe culture in London. Coming from an ardent lover of these Bombay cafés, I can assure you the moment you step in this place you will forget you're in London. I literally got teleported back to south bombay where this culture thrives. With success.

I mean hats off to the guys have sat down and detailed this place. The styling of the place is so thoughtfully done that it makes you feel home. Just what the core of these cafés are made of. They make you feel you're home.

We were glad to get a pleasant waitress and were delightfully served. More than the food I was more interested seeing how quick the service is going to be (again the core principal) but I was wrong it did get served before the clock ticked a couple of minutes.

Food was generally good except the dal that we ordered. Since these places are more know for it's kheema-pav and bun maska or salli boti, I could leave the dal alone.

This is a mesmerizingly good place who have loved and adored Irani cafés all their lives. More than anything I am just thankful to its owners that they've executed this idea so well.

Congratulations to the team, you guys certainly leave me knocked out with your Bombay punch - Dishoom!

Fun, buzzy and with cracking Indian food. The tandoor grills melt in the mouth, their house Dahl is a triumph and the cocktails slip down a treat. Go early or late to avoid long waiting times, but once seated enjoy what is contemporary Indian at it's finest.

As far as Indian restaurants go, Dishoom is both authentic and singular, choosing to focus on a quirky Bombay inspired menu and decor, rather than going the generic balti-curry routine in dumpy surrounds. You end up with less common options like Vada Pav, Pao Bhaji, Frankies, Boti Kababs and Patra ni Machhi, all prepared rather well, with tastes comparable to the actual stuff in Mumbai. The desserts and drinks are a bit disappointing as they tend to be a bit too experimental. However, starting off with an East India Gimlet and ending with a Kulfi, isn't that bad a prospect.

My bigger gripe with the place is its excruciatingly long waiting time. We spent an hour in line, and another half by the bar. Thankfully the staff was very courteous and sustained us with complimentary chai. Also, any Indian can tell you that the place is extremely overpriced for its cafe menu. While Dishoom definitely isn't cheap, I'd weigh the costs against the ambience and atmosphere of the place, as well as the fact that its the next best thing to flying to Bombay.

Been there few times over crowded at times but food is not bad but not wow it's just ok and I don't understand what the hype is all about. The decor is nice and the cup of chai is nice. staff is friendly but slow :) the byrani is OK I have had better. I like the concept of Dishoom cafe style menu but I feel like something is missing it's not all that and I don't understand why there is such a big queue outside and honestly i wouldn't queue up that long for average indian food. Avoid the gola its not on a stick and pretty disappointing no authentic feel to it

Great Food, Great Price, Great Taste!!

I have visited Dishoom 3 times in 2 months already!
This Bombay Cafe, takes me back home and never fails to comfort.

The décor is simple. Dim lights, check-board flooring, candles on tables (for dinner), steal glasses and jugs and Hindi music.
Wooden furniture and wall hangings of everything Indian.

The menu offers everything you would want to eat, if you are back home.
And amazingly nails almost every dish.
Their Kheema and Samosa's can get better. The calamari and Okra fries are a winner and so is the Vada Pav with the garlic chutney!
Thumbs Up, Limca, Kala Khatta , on the menu? Oh, Boy - That is great!
But what really steals the show is their House Black Daal ( With Garlic Naan) & Chicken Biryani with Cranberry (& Raita)!
You cannot, not try this.

The staff is rather friendly and know the menu well. They will advice you with the right dish, if asked.

Most often, if you go in without a reservation, you will have to queue. However, they do offer Ginger Chai & Mint Chai to beat the cold!
While in line, many locals and tourists come in to ask, ‘ Such a long queue, is the place so good? “
And my reply always is, “Take it from an Indian, it is so good!”

It is a great place to be for a good prized Indian meal in London, taking you back home, set in a lovely ambience and quick service!

i've lived in UK for over 4 years and after hearing about Dishoom, it was great to get there and try it. I thought it was superb!! Enjoyed the experience, starting from the masala chai and the mango lassi, through to the assortment of mouth watering dishes. As another reviewer remarked, these come tapas style, making it possible to try a number of the dishes. We tried the Chicken Ruby Murray, Bombay Sausages, Biryani and a cheese Naan. Having been Mumbai a number of times, I appreciated the feel of the place which echoes a number of Bombay's favourite cafe hang-out spots, and even the legendary Chowpatty Beach.

Service was top notch throughout - very attentive and helpful. An excellent choice for a cafe style dinner. We enjoyed it so much, we were last out the restaurant.

One of the great things about Zomato is the wishlist and my wishlist is around the 35 mark, one of of said restaurants on this list is Dishoom.

I decided to head to Dishoom as a last minute choice with a friend, upon arrival at 7pm, there was a rather longer queue outside, this queue was a pre-queue to another wait inside Dishoom. It was a very chilly evening and we had to wait for around 35mins outside in the cold, but were given cups of Chai. After the wait outside, we had a further 15min wait downstairs at the bar. We were given a buzzer to tell us when the table for 2 was ready. Well after all of that waiting i go rather hungry so it didn't bother me so much.

All that waiting allowed me to absorb the decor which has a very quirky 60s style bollywood/indian old cafe environment. Thats the best way to describe Dishoom, its not really a restaurant per se, it's more of a Cafe. There are 2 floors, the main floor as a open kitchen with a large open space for the diners. The walls are decorated with posters from india in the 60s.

The service was very friendly, now I'm a happy chappy, even standing in the queue in the cold and like have a bit of banter with the staff. All the staff were very friendly and warm. Once seated they knew we were standing in the cold and were very nice about it. I was even asked about the choice of table I would like, at this point i just wanted anything! Bring on the food

So on to the food. There was only 2 of us so we didn't order too much, firstly the drinks. i ordered a Virgin bombay Colada. I indian twist on the classic Pina Colada. Verdict... Probably the BEST drink I've had, it was thick, sweet, textured and full of flavour. I loved it!

Great Start. The waiter came over to take the food order, I asked him what he recommended, I like heat and Spice, after a quick scan of the simple menu i went for Lamb Chops for Starters and a Chicken Berry Biryani. We also got some Grilled Paneer Tikka and Nann. Okay so first the Biryani, it was served with Cranberries, very different, This dish wasn't too memorable, it was good but didn't really blow my stocks off but i wasn't expecting it to. The Panner i found a bit dry, at this point the a manger looking dude asked if we needed anything, I said things are a bit dry, he suggested the house Daal.. and he gave it On the House! Yay!. Theres something i'm forgetting... No there isn't, I'm saving the best to last. Now I like my red meat and always try and order Lamb Chops. A few months ago i went to Mint Leaf and ordered £16 lamb chops and got a plate of 3 very small chops. When the Dishoom lamb chops arrived on the table i was thinking oh hear here we go again.

I grabbed a lamb from the end, no knife and folk lark here, i went straight in with man bite.. what happened next was what can be described as a explosion in my mouth. Oh my, i think i had a foodgasm, it was the most tender, juicy and full of flavor piece of meat i've eaten. Oh boy it was good, I think i got the fatty bit of the chop. I'm having trouble to describe it, it was just delicious.

The bill came to under £40, the prices here are mixed, the price for a curry/main is a reasonable £7, but the starters are a bit overpriced.

So, this place was so good, i went again the next day with another friend!

Date of Visit 20/11/13

After Ice Skating nearby at Somerset House, my friend and i took the short walk and decided to grab a quick bite at Dishoom again. My friend had been already a few times and said the service on her experience wasn't the best. Well, things change when you go with me!

Upon arrival at around 9.45 we were shown to a nice large table straight away, I also remembered one of the managers called Lisa from the day before and had a quick chat. We ordered drinks, so surprise i went for the same Bombay Colada again. I popped downstairs to freshen up and when i retuned my friend said that Lisa had given the drinks on the house!

We didn't order much, no lamb chops today, i wanted a curry, so got a Chicken Ruby with Nann my friend got Sheekh Kebabs. I really liked my curry, it was a good balance of spice and flavour in a rich silky sauce. The Sheekh Kebabs looked like a stand kebab id get from my local curry house, but it certainly didn't taste it, there was an intelligent use of lime, coriander and cumin flavours and texture that separated it from it being a standard kebab.

So, all in all, The food was a mixture of brilliant to standard, but what makes a good dining experience are different factors from service, food and atmosphere, all of which i loved and left me with a very positive feeling towards Dishoom

Scores just in!

The main encounters I have with Indian food involve the always excellent, authentic and homemade doggy bags Indian friends bring me; leftovers from what seem to be almost weekly occurrences of some sort of event revolving around the eventual climax of a wedding – engagement parties; pre-engagement parties, pre-wedding parties, a pre-party party (these guys know how to have a good time). Or, dining out at a good local curry house – I tend to gravitate to those catered for the Eastern palette rather than customised for the West. A good example of these are Saravana Bhavan or Lahori Karahi (the latter more Pakistani cuisine than Indian). If you find natives in a curry house, you know there’s a decent chance of it being both good and authentic as is the case with both of these.

What I haven’t really experienced is making a specific trip to a ‘proper’ Indian restaurant as opposed to a curry house. I see the differences being that the former would be a larger establishment well kitted out, centrally located rather than local, innovative dishes alongside traditional, enticing interiors, and with most if not all of their business coming from meals dined on the premises rather than take-away. Dishoom in Covent Garden certainly ticks these boxes, but it was hard to dismiss an almost glaring observation on this visit – amongst the packed out tables and ever increasing queue outdoors, it was a challenge to spot a single person of Indian heritage.

If I had stepped into a venue that hadn’t already bowled me over with some wonderful aromatics as soon as I had entered and descended down the steps into the basement bar, this observation would have set alarm bells ringing. But this place achieved just that, and along with some questionable over-Americanised but well intended greetings from a person not in waiting uniform and a cocktail quickly in my hand, I was more than ready to see if what came out of the kitchen matched the jaunty and vibrant vibes from the front of house.

My companions and I ordered what seemed to be almost every third dish from the menu – each entry read as something I wanted to consume and it was challenge to apply a filter to prevent a cry of ‘we’ll take one of everything’. But realistic we remained, and within mere minutes of ordering our table surface area soon dwindled as plate after plate was delivered.

From the grills we chose two meats and a vegetarian option. The paneer tikka while spiced did not lose its delicate flavour which I felt was quite impressive. It was the texture that was more so though - one that gave way to more of a crumble under pressure than previous experiences I’ve had with the cheese, quite delightful. The murgh malai consisted of chicken thigh meat seasoned with garlic, ginger and coriander – while tender and moist, the depth of spice and flavour did not quite lend itself to the expectations from the overnight marinade it had received. The lamb boti kebab however was outstanding – furry with the fibre of ginger, tender and moist, seasoned with impact from a whole host of spices – completely delicious and I could have done with a portion to myself.

To provide a purpose for our naans and kimono-silk thin roomali roti, a thick and creamy bowl of the house black daal was ordered – while relatively mild in its inclusion of spice, the texture was completely gorgeous and one of my favourite things on the table (after the lamb) for this reason. It reminded me a lot of refried beans and with a squeeze of lime and fresh coriander it could have been Mexican – a bigger stamp from Indian spices would have helped differentiate it more. But this did not detract at all from the pleasure it yielded. The portion of raita to help cool the table off was of generous soup proportions and my personal preference would have liked it a little more strained.

Dishoom sells itself as a fond memory to the fast dwindling and traditional cafés of Bombay. While it’s hard for me to tell if the dishes that come out of its kitchen are true to these roots (I’ve never been to Bombay, let alone a Bombay cafe), I don’t think it really matters. Perhaps this is the reason I found too few natives within, but while the food is delicious and the staff are friendly, the restaurant will continue to be busy and I think rightly so. Don’t discount your local curry house now that Dishoom is here as there is no need to – what they provide are two quite different range of products and experiences.

It’s not possible to secure a table for less than six for dinner, but you can for breakfast and lunch reservations. I was quite eager to top the night off with some of their warm and spiced house chai, but caffeine after 3pm for me these days will render a sleepless night. All the more reason to return and perhaps try out a different time of day – I can think of few things more appealing than starting off a weekend with a buttered bun maska or two dipped into spicy hot chai. Already there.

When my friend suggested an Indian place for lunch in London, I did wince. But then that was the last time that I did.

The design of the restaurant is fantastic. Its an old 1950's - 60's Bombay styled cafe. The staff know the food very well which is always a welcome sign. Also, the idea of the restaurant that the dishes are all small and expected to be shared is also a great concept. The portions aren't too small that if shared no one gets enough. It isn't too large either that 2 items fill you up. I must confess though we did overdo the food simply because it was so good.

And as my friend kept saying, the highlight of the meal was dessert. Cinnamon ice cream. Pure bliss.

Dishoom was recommended to me by my Indian colleagues as one of the best restaurants to eat at in London.

I ate here on a Monday evening with three friends. We managed to get a table swiftly, despite the fact that it was bustling with people.

The restaurant is designed to mirror the interior of a Bombay cafe - low lighting, comfortable booths and dark wood chairs. The atmosphere was incredible, and the air engulfs you with a rich warmth of spice as soon as you enter.

It took a while for our order to be taken but the waiter was very helpful and explained each of the dishes to us. I ordered the chicken ruby, a roti and some steamed basmati rice. The food came out as it was ready and was steaming hot. My curry was delicious - tender, melt-in-the-mouth chicken and plenty of thick, filling sauce. Accompanied by the soft rice and a slightly chewy roti, it was pure culinary perfection. I wish I hadn't been so filled up by the main course because the desserts looked in-cred-ible. I am going to return soon for a chocolate chai and a mango kulfi.

Go to Dishoom if you want authentic Indian food in a comfortable atmosphere.

Things to note:
- there is a 12.5% service charge added
- you can't book a table after 6 unless you have 6 people or more in your party

A great place for a big group, but only if you don't mind sharing. I know several people who wouldn't dream of sharing their curry!! It can be a pain to get a table if there is less than 8 of you because you can't book but the bar downstairs does great cocktails to pass the time whilst you wait. The food is yummy and worth the wait - I'd recommend the soft shell crab curry and the ruby murry.

Dhisoom is one of few London restaurants serving 'proper' Indian food. The price is a bit expensive but the experience is great for a friend circle or family outing.
We had Keema Pau and Fried Squid as starters which were great taste-wise. I will highlight the speed of service which was indeed excellent.
For main course, we opted for Rumali Roti, Black Daal, Sheekh Kabab, Mahi Masala and Lamb Boti Kabab. All these were distinctly sumptuous. I will especially highlight the Black daal which is essentially a top quality daal makhani. Counting some of beers we were charged around £90 which I guess considering quality of food, a great deal. However, there is some shortage with regards to traditional Indian curry dishes.
Finally we had 'kaala khatta gola ice' as desert which is a typical Mumbai street cooler. As a whole, we had a great experience and will highly recommend.

P.S : Dishoom does not reserve tables after 6-7 on weekends; so watch out for queues.

Dishoom is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the city with a unique decor and menu. The restaurant reminds me of Mumbai in the 80s and 90s so I love it for the nostalgia.
Dishoom changed their menu in the last year so seem to have a lot more to choose from while maintaining classics like vada pav, pav bhaji and the house black daal (all exceptional). The mutter paneer, okra fries and chole chawal are all worth trying.
The kulfi is exceptional and the chuski seems to be super popular (I've never tried it because I'm partial to kala khatta flavour which they don't have).
As strange as it sounds, do visit the washrooms in the basement level - I was blown away by the attention to detail with the decor: the wall is adorned with products sold in India (think amrutanjan, vicco and chandrika) before India opened up to the world

Was a regular customer here, serve nice indian food. Like a proper bombay style irani cafe... Nice decor and interior with good food... Small portions though, with a so and so taste...
The only thing we all frnds stop going to this cafe is, they are selling alcohol with the brand name of subhas chandra bose, which is very shameful for indian owner and for all indian people. After enquiring about it with staff they said its just a english brewery who make that cider and dishoom is only selling it. This is very insulting for a great freedom fighter of india.
Nyways i hope so they stopped selling it... But we all are not visiting this restaurant from last 3 - 4 months, which before we used to go there for every week and we used to spend quite alot all the time.
If u miss bombay irani cafe do visit this place.
Thanks

I had heard a lot about Dishoom and its offering of the Bombay cafe scene here in London. On paper at least it seemed like a wonderful take on the already saturated indian food scene, and I had meaning to check it out for a while now.

Unlike most places, my review starts hours before we even arrived at the place. Based on the advice of those who had already been, I decided to book a table for six (which happens to also be the minimum you can reserve for). On calling I was asked for my credit card details and told that a cover charge of ten quid per head would be taken then, to be refunded on the final bill at the end of the evening. Now I'm not really the type that goes out to eat that often but this was the first time a restaurant has ever asked me to pay to reserve a booking. But hey, some places are popular (while waiting for my table I saw at least five parties being turned away) and I figured they had to do it to avoid empty covers, something probably more likely to happen considering the (brown) people the place attracts.

The place has a distinctive vibe. Crowded and noisy, it was fun and happening and alluring at first but did start to grate toward the end. It seems that the place attracted a certain type of person - you know, the young, professional, pretty "desi" type and although I enjoyed being in the company of such beautiful people the experience was kind of shallow.

And the troubles didn't end there. Due to some of our party arriving late there was a mix up with our table and five minutes after we had been seated we were asked to wait in the queue again - with no option to leave with our deposit. After causing a scene we managed to keep the table, but the experience wasn't that great. Our waiter even explicitly asked for a tip afterwards. My only guess was that the place wanted to recreate not only the food of Mumbai but the service found there too.

But eventually we got to eat some food and at last I found something to justify the trip there. The meat and chicken are halal (and cooked separately), so we had access to a large part of the menu. We picked the Chilli Cheese Toast, Calamari and Pau Bhaji for starters and the Lamb Chops, Dhaba Chicken and Black Daal for mains - I make the distinction between courses but Dishoom has a policy where food comes as it's made ready; we even received our first dish while the server was still taking the rest of our order. It was quite amazing really.

And the food wasn't bad actually. Rich and tasty, yet light, the deceptively small portions were more than enough for those at the table; we even had some left over. Even the "boring" daal turned out to be quite the hit, and my mouth is watering again just thinking of it.

The bill was a bit of a surprise, the total coming to 16 quid per head for all the food and Nimbu Panis. We couldn't quite figure out where the value came from, but there you go.

In many ways Dishoom is very much like most pretty Asian female Londoners: hot, attractive, sexy and alluring at first... but ultimately stuck up, rude, pretentious and high maintenance once you get to know them. And like with the pretty Asian female Londoner, whether the really good is worth the so, so bad is something a hungry soul will have to decide for themselves. But even though I would recommend you all give Dishoom a try, it's somewhere I'm unlikely to go back to again any time soon myself.

For an instant trip back to grand Bombay in the 50's - without the jet lag - it's a must.

Great value, comforting serious Indian food. We went for lunch, I had wanted to go for a while and wasn't disappointed.
Two of us shared a brilliant bhel followed by a surprisingly un-spicy delicious black dhal, mutter paneer and lamb biriani. One down point, the roti oven wasn't working therefore had a standard naan.
The tandoori meats looked awesome, will definitely try next time.
Ambience is fun and vibrant, service is good if a bit pushy with your dining time. Guess they want to get you in and out!

It was a coincident happened to go to Dishoom several times in the same day, once at lunch and then cocktails and then dinner with my partner. At lunch the staff was so awful, I must really have come in on a bad day I thought . They just looked like they did not want to be there, almost rude bar one waiter who actually managed to do the job. Food was interesting, but not fantastic It was not a good experience at lunch. Then came night, I was dragged back kicking and screaming only because my partner was meeting up there, and my my what a difference in the service at dinner time. Staff was charming, much happier, presentable food and the cocktails were great! It was just the contradic review because of the service.

The paneer roll is packed with more of salad(green leaves) and less of paneer-not at all recommended for paneer lovers.
Pav bhaji and chef's covent garden special biryani (non-veg) is good.

Creative i could say to start with, from entrance till toilets of the restaurant. sounds funny but you will explore when you visit them.
We had a waiting time of 40 minutes to get our table so we went to bar downstairs. it was buzzing with lots of table and people. seemed waiters were running like headless chicken but smile was never missing. ( just suggestion could organise inside of the bar as it is visual to diners). very limited wine list but shiraz we ordered went well with our meal.
table set up was simple as Bombay cafes, waiter was very attentive explained us about menu and took order with suggestion. food was quick. they don't know what waiting time means?
Starters were more delicious than main course i must say. Naan size was looks like roti size small.
Dessert selection was not appealing as well so we ordered for kulfis, being so much creativity around so i expected bit more but it came as same as other indian restaurant.
Next round was Expresso it came in cutting chai glass creative and different well done.
Overall it was very interesting and i was happy when i left, it was only because of the creative decor they input from old magazine posters on wall till slow rotating pankhas.
I will definitely visit again but if management want to consider above things plz do; will enhance diner experience.

Dishoom is a perfect blend of being classy and Traditional. The ambiance feels like you are in Bombay with fans on the ceiling,Bollywood posters everywhere and the menu with lot of Hindi words in it.This restaurant is a must visit if you want to get the perfect feeling of being in London and experience a typical Irani Bombay cafe. The food is the most important part. And Dishoom gets a thumps up from me when it comes to their food. Its tasty and worth the price The most famous and MUST try dish is the BLACK DAL . This is the only place in central London where you will find your perfect black dal made with typical Punjabi spices. The restaurant is always busy so its advisable to book your table in advance. Loved the ambiance in the restaurant, and if you have great company - even better!
I feel as though the food was a little pretentious and did not go as Indian as it could have...
It had a lot of Westernised twists...
The salad was pretty standard and yogurt was so bland!
However I enjoyed the vegetarian briyani, it was quite different and it's as Bombay style as it could get.
You can ask them for extra spice if you like, which is also a plus for those who love their mouth on fire!
The lassi, with rum inside it could be better! Needed some more flavours and to be a lot more sweeter.

Dishoom promises a lot and somehow just manages to under-deliver. But just. The food is not standard India fare, it's more stylised to cater to a wider palette and some of the things (especially the rolls) can come off as too westernised for those expecting Indian flavor. The starters are interesting as are the choice of drinks but the entres remain underwhelming. Great service and free wifi can make it worth the while every now and then.

The conceptual Bombay iranian cafe outset is definitely a crowd puller to this place . Designed with nice wooden deck interiors and perfect set of lighting this cafe cum rest-obar is certain to give you a happy feeling . Waiting can be a bit of an issue with long lines especially on weekends , but a tiny red light gadget keeps you occupied and informed .

The staff are very generous and are very accommodative as well. We got there on a sunday evenjng and at 7 30 , we had a wait of about 15 mins.

The menu has some interesting options like the chaito and mirch martini and they taste good indeed . We tried the malai kabab , bhel and vada pav for starters and were good . (Have eaten better vada pavs in London though).another interesting part is that they serve limca , thumbs up and mangola .

We ordered for some chicken curry ( recomended by staff) and roti s which were perfect . In all NO MISS joint for indian food in london and saviour of our taste buds around this country .

For an Indian living in London, Dishoom is home away from home. The interiors are tastefully done and remind one of old cafes in Bombay. The food is as authentic as it gets, and this place is definitely a must visit for folks looking for great Indian food. The Murgh Malai is out of the world, and literally melts in the mouth. Being a staunch non-vegetarian, I am not easily impressed by vegetarian dishes, but the Kaali Daal served here is something else. The Lassi could do with some improvement. For dessert, I had a Gujarati Chocolate Mousse which was somewhere between mousse and Misthi Doi (Bengali sweet dish). The service is great, and the overall experience : Awesome !

Have visited this place a few times and have tried Pav Bhaji, Murgh Malai, Dishoom Chicken Tikka, Paneer Tikka, Vegetable Biryani. While their Pav Bhaji is good, the chicken from the grill lacks spice (esp the Murgh Malai). It's too bland compared to Indian standards. However, chicken used is of good quality and tender. Biryani was a disappointment too. Portions are small, especially that of Pav Bhaji (comes with a single Pav). It was more of rice mixed with cooked vegetables, laced taste. I do have the 'Thums Up' every time I visit. Tea is good too. Service is good, ambience is great and people are courteous. Though the place doesn't server a conventional full meal, it's a must visit for feel of a Bombay restaurant.

Its introducing line being a Bombay cafe, being an Indian I had to check it out! So here we were my friend and I waiting to be seated. We were given these funny little gadgets, which basically start flashing red light if your table was available. Fun for a bit, it becomes a tiresome responsibility to keep an eye glued to it.
At the bar the array of innovative cocktails and drinks is in full bloom, serving specials like the chilli martini or chai-jito! They even serve some of the Mumbai staples such as 'vada pau' .
The Indian kitsch ambience is definitely a crowd puller!
Reservations are only taken for breakfast and lunch, forming lines along the block for people to be seated at the tables for dinner.
The food is an experience in it self with soft buttery rotis and grilled lamb!
If unconventional is your thing this place definitely demands a visit!

Landmark spot for some incredible Indian food! Each dish we had was better than the last. Service was good and price was fair. Since this spot is so well known you'll need to book a reservation weeks in advance or be prepared for a lengthy standby line. But it's all worth it!

Great place for Bombay style Indian cuisine. Service is excellent, lines are quick and no hassle. Place was recommended to us as must visit in London and it truly stands. Worth to note that cocktails are at level of the food, I can recommend old fashioned especially.

As we entered into this big two story restaurant, during lunch time, we noticed how efficiently the staff was working. Like a well oiled machine, it didn’t matter how many people they were serving, they were very attentive and quick on picking up the dirty dishes and bringing new set of dishes and silverware. The menu offers delicious Indian food that is unlike any run of the mill restaurants we’d seen before. The portions are small and perfect for sharing, if you and your company want to try different dishes in one seating. Delicious spices and flavors, that entice any palette. An extremely busy restaurant, with an extremely good system in place. By the way, I would highly recommend their freshly baked naan. This was definitely one of the best Indian restaurants we’ve ever been too.

Being a big consumer of Indian restaurants in Paris I was curious to discover the famous Dishoom. Quite simply the best Indian restaurant of my life, the decor, the atmosphere, the very varied menu, the quality service, the speed and obviously the tastes. If you pass through London you must come and eat here. As beautiful as it is delicious, an excellent culinary journey.

Fantastic quality of the food and service. Alberto was very prompt and efficient. I would also like to mention manager Helena she was very friendly and had a good chat with us. It felt so nice that the vibe and environment of this place is tremendous. They have big space so they can fit a lot of people. Food was very authentic. They have really nice drinks. They also do superb desserts highlight of that will be the chocolate pudding with chilli ice cream. I know it doesn't sound great, but this will blow your mind away.

A great place for brunch. Interesting and long menu. House chai is a must try, especially on a typical cold and wet London day. The decor is as close as one gets to the colonial days in South East Asia.

Overall, this place is really good! Most if not all of the plates are small and you’re meant to order a bunch of different ones to share. Our favorite dishes were the chilli chicken, house black daal, and chicken ruby along with the garlic naan and cheese naan. There’s usually a long line but it moves quick, and they serve free chai/drinks while you wait!

Superb Indian food! Perhaps the best Indian restaurant in London! Great varieties on the menu, super authentic style, decoration and atmosphere just perfect! On top you get authentic Indian Thums-Up Cola 😁! Everything is prepared freshly, if you tried Naan here, you will not be able to tolerate half-baked attempts anywhere else. As expected we were not the only ones to discover their excellence, even at midday the place was fully booked. The waiters were hardly able to manage the masses, orders took really long, it required three friendly request and 25 minutes (!) until the rice for one of our main courses arrived - but no spoons (!). I am not sure if we were supposed to eat butter chicken by hand, so we asked for spoons. Five minutes later the waiter came along and planted a bucket of cutlery on our table, which contained knives, forks, but NO SPOONS! So we asked again (No „oops“, no „sorry“), and after further 10 minutes two spoons were provided. The main course was cold at that time, but that did not concern anybody from the staff. In summary: Best-in-class Indian cuisine, do remember to make a reservation at any time, and don‘t expect the waiter to be your friend 😉.

We had a beautiful lunch here for our graduation meal and our friends birthday 🎂. The waitress was lovely and sorted us out with individual bills and a desert for our birthday friend. The food was delicious and we were all really happy with our food and the service 😁 we will definitely come again xx

You need to wait atleast 1 hr outside the restaurant to get in, they offer masala chai to everyone standing in the queue which is a nice offer on my opinion. Food: is pretty descent. You get not so big portions though so order accordingly. taste is also very close to authentic so it's nice Atmosphere: Can get too loud sometimes because it is pretty crowded restaurant so not something if you are looking for a quite or chill time. Staff is pretty friendly and helpful.

Hands down best Indian food I had. BUT >1 hour wait time on a THURSDAY in line OUTSIDE is crazy…a bit too much. Wouldn’t be fair to subtract a star because of this, but needs to be said…people are coming from other countries to visit with a tight agenda and then this… If you don’t wanna wait - just go to the Carnaby location not too far away (life hack) But yeah, the food was delicious. Especially the signature Black Daal, and Chicken Ruby highly recommended. Also take the garlic naan.

Loved the food here! Price was a bit higher than usual but totally worth it 🙌🏽 Loved each dish and how innovative they are with blending certain flavours together. Love it all!! Goes so well together. Would definitely return the next time I'm in London

We had Sunday lunch at Dishoom. The food was really good, however there was a long wait time for some of the items due to how packed the restaurant was (note it was a bank holiday weekend). The crowd seemed to overwhelm the staff (maybe that should have tried to scale the waiters based on expected customers). Apart from these small nits, I really enjoyed the food and would definitely go back.

Oh my, what lovely food in a convivial setting. Just order anything and I'm sure it will be tasty. Beautifully executed Indian food with good ingredients. Good portions too. I'd mention the okra fries, because we ordered a 2nd serve lol.. The service is on point and friendly. The place is massive, but you don't feel like you'd be neglected. I also love the social good they're doing with giving out free meals in India and England. Highly recommended!!

On the pricier end for Indian food, portions a bit small for what you pay. Quality and flavour is pretty good. I found the lamb a bit dry though. Their rotis and naans are excellent. They also have a great selection of vegetarian options, and street food classics.

Great food and suitable for large groups to share and try more dishes. Very friendly staff. Atmosphere was awesome, which was a bit unexpected for a chained restaurant. Loved all the curry dishes - we ordered some extra naans to dip every bit of them. Also recommend the chili toast.

Had to wait one hour for a table, so I expected the food to bang It did not It was okay, like any other fusion restaurant. The company of friends was good, the staff was very accommodating and we had a great time hanging out. Best dish for me was the black beans

We were in que half hour which is a testament to how popular this place is. There was a lovely staff member handing out free chai teas to people as we waited Restaurant itself is beautiful and atmosphere was buzzing. I loved the lamb chops and the fish special was stunning. The okra fries were delicious as well. We really weren't fans of the black daal however, it was grainy and not that nice a flavour. Desserts were stunning especially the choc pudding with ice cream. Food and drinks were quite pricy but expected for central London. The service was absolutely fantastic and our waitress was brilliant and should be praised. Would recommend this place overall.
