Jazz? Whilst you eat brunch?Whilst you're at the Tate Britain? Whilst is Summer and you want to enjoy the sun? No hesitation here! However one should know well enough and mustn't trust the British weather. It was a rainy Saturday in July and my dream-brunch ended up happening indoors.
But can you believe that everything was so good that it ended up being really worth it anyway? It was indeed a very pleasant brunch, or shall I say, late lunch.
There's a choice of a 2 or 3 course menu. As I was more keen for a proper brunch-like meal rather than a big lunch, I ended up choosing a bigger portion of the starters (therefore the 2 eggs bennedict with smoked salmon that were really well cooked, and the courgettes with poached eggs were the dishes that better appealed to me). I then had a very tasty desert. All of this whilst listening to live jazz with very talented musicians which wrapped the meal with a very refreshing environment!

A visit to the British Tate museum is a rare treat. Ending with lunch at the Rex Whistler Room turns it into a even more wonderful experience. We had a most lovely time on Sunday 29 June 2016.
Traditional British food, gourmet standard, served in this elegant historical setting along with a delightful wine pairing.
We started with Saddleback Pig Terrine, piccalilli and toasted Rye as well as Orkney Islands king scallops, radish and heritage beet salad. Accompanied by Coates and Seely Brut Reserve from Hampshire. Delicate, elegant and delicious.
Our main dishes were Sunday Roast with seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes. I had the Swaledale lamb roast with 2014 Lange Nebbiolo from Piemonte, Italy and Izak the Saddleback Pork loin with 2013 Pinot Noir Ahito Otage, New Zealand.
Truly delicious.
We just had to have dessert and the Sticky Toffee pudding & vanilla pod ice cream and Tate's "Nahua" chocolate fondant, praline crumbs & Cornish clotted cream brought our feast to a fitting end. A lunch to remember!

Here are my gluten-free restaurant reviews – mostly in London, but anywhere that I find absolutely delicious. Any meals that have been comp’ed have been specified – and I always give my honest opinion – there’s nothing worse than a shoddy meal!. On Saturday, as a post-Valentine’s treat I was lucky enough to be taken to the most amusing room in Europe.

On Saturday, as a post-Valentine’s treat I was lucky enough to be taken to the most amusing room in Europe. At least, that’s how the Rex Whistler restaurant was described when it was first unveiled in 1927. As you enter the restaurant, you become surrounded by ‘The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats’, a mural composed by Rex Whistler. According to the menu, Joseph Duveen, a benefactor of the Tate commissioned the mural in the hopes that others would do the same for young artists. I loved the idea, the history and the attention to detail behind the restaurant. What could be better than being served plates of art, surrounded by art?

The food at the Rex Whistler Restaurant is undeniably good, but really the main attraction is obviously the specially commissioned mural which surrounds you as you eat; famously winning it the description as the 'most amusing room in Europe'.
The room has few windows, set low and deep into the walls, to allow the mural to engulf the diners, creating the feeling of totally leaving the world behind you as you enter through the doors. Really, it's a totally wonderful experience.

My partner and I had an excellent experience today and so we will definitely be back. Very nice starter - I had the veal - my partner was delighted with the beef main course. Nice desserts and greats wines... We always like to see Kate and the waitresses and manager were accommodating and gracious.

We came for brunch on a Saturday. Everything about the experience was excellent - perfect presentation, fresh ingredients, excellent friendly service and a historic location set in the centre of Rex Whistler's magnum opus. We especially like the fact the restaurant takes stand on paying staff a living wage and not requesting tips as a result. The fact the profits support public art is also rewarding.

We went for the jazz brunch and decided not to have eggs, but oysters and other dishes from their lunch menu. The location is beautiful, completely unexpected in the Tate. We particularly liked the staff, who were professional, yet very approachable and had a good sense of humour.

The food was very refined and the dishes were well designed and crafted, especially the mint flavoured mousse. The atmosphere was very pleasing, but also quite posh. Prices are somewhat on the high side.

Excellent food. Was there for my sisters birthday. The best part was how knowledgable servers were about the wine and the food that goes with it. Wine was also very very fine. I highly recommend.

The ravioli was stunning, beautifully matched with a spectacular wine suggestion from Karolis the Sommelier. The daily special of pork chop with seasonal greens, again perfectly matched, was a delight

In the clamour of London restaurants, this is a treasured shelter. The Whistler murals really do create an enchanted setting. Look up from your plate and enjoy them.
