This bar is one of my favourites, a bit pricey but the drinks, service, ambience and live music are amazing.

Went on a Sunday evening after a meal around and it was great as was not so busy so we could enjoy the best seats near the piano and fireplace .

Fun drinks, lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed the booked themed cocktails which were accompanied by quirky illustrations- rarely do I enjoy reading menus as much! Everything was a bit pricey but the food was tasty and the ambience, especially when the live band started playing at around 9pm, was perfect for unwinding on a Friday evening

Nice place for Saturday Jazz night. I suppose it is a part of the Rosewood Hotel (which is a very beautiful place). I`ve  just enjoyed jazz music played by some American band. As I expected, food was quite spicy as the menu was full of Indian dishes. So I just tried many cocktails.  They were quite good. Prices are not for students!

A few things caught my eye about the new Scarfe's Bar menu at the Rosewood, amidst the many handfuls of press releases that drop into my inbox every day. Firstly, and fairly unusually for a 5-star hotel bar menu, it was entirely Indian, full of things like pani puri and lamb chops and Keralan curry, all very tempting if you're anything like me but perhaps not quite the kind of thing usually pitched to the international business travellers and families of American tourists that normally occupy these places. I wonder what a jetlagged conference attendee would make of it, wandering in bamboozled between presentations for anything so familiar as a burger or steak & chips.

Sunday night at Scarfes. What a spot. Great venue, amazing cocktails and a terrific atmosphere given the day of the week. Staff friendly, some celeb spotting in the form of the Jolie and good value. Great drawings on the walls from the famous cartoonist namesake just add to the interesting decor. Service was a little slow and food fell a little flat, but I'm nitpicking. A great bar to add to my favorites list.

I popped into Scarfes Bar with a friend to have a drink on my birthday, after being told that the Mirror Room was too full to accommodate us.
I have heard good things about Scarfes Bar, and it definitely was as classy as others have described to me.
We ordered some small dishes to share - the momos were pretty tasty, and the sandwich big enough to share between the two of us.
I ordered the Bubble & Shrubs cocktail, as I do love champagne based cocktails.
We also ordered a little dessert sharing platter - I especially liked the 'cigarettes'.
I really do like the interior and would be interested to check it out again during one of their jazz/cabaret nights.
Conveniently located just round the corner from Holborn station, and a great place to relax and have a drink.

Scarfes bar is, as you'd expect from the courtyard from which you enter, elegant and sophisticated. Old world Gentlemans club library meets elegant London hotel. The cocktail menu was complex, but not over the top. While my personal leanings
are always towards an old fashioned, there was no classics list, so I opted for the first thing on the list - a gin based, thyme infused concoction served in a glass tea pot. It was well balanced, not too sweet, and just about long enough to justify the price, given the setting. My friend opted for a champagne based cocktail, while the other made a selection from the bourbon range. All of us left happy, and this is certainly a place I'd return to; it suits a quiet, long chatter away from the hubbub of the local area. Service isn't delivered in a hurry, so if you've heaps of time and enjoy an elegant bar this is a well located and reliable choice!

The Indian venues I have recently stumbled across - stuffing me with all things keema and seekh and sambar, cooked in tandoors and on tawas, and served in pretty copper karahis - have been doing it quite well. It seems I’m on a good-Indian roll. The most recent is Scarfes Bar, stashed away in the splendid Holborn neoclassical landmark that is now the Rosewood Hotel.

In a similar vein to Zumbura, Scarfes Bar is about as far from the well-worn and tired Indian high-street restaurants of yesteryear as you could hope to achieve. Firstly, it’s not a restaurant - it’s a bar. A beautiful, stately bar. A bar with the atmosphere of a drawing room and the sophistication of a gentlemen’s club. A bar you would equally be chuffed to find out was the destination of a first date, or the location of today’s business meeting. A bar with live music in the evenings and potions that make you squiffy after one if the day is warm.

It has a roaring fire (burning in June, even) and weighty wooden tables with velvet and leather chesterfield armchairs. Should the occasion call for an appreciation of the arts, the shelves are stocked with over 1000 antique books hand-picked by a Portabello antique dealer, and the walls are embellished with one-off paintings by renowned British artist and caricaturist Gerald Scarfe, who lends his name to the space.

Don’t forget to relieve yourself, because the journey to the lavortary across the lobby provides a glimpse into the hotel’s elegant opulence. The £85m refurbishment of this building - opening as the Rosewood Hotel in October 2013 - is evident. The overall aesthetic is modern, monochrome and metropolitan. “I’ve found the place I want to get married - here,” cooed my interior designer lunch partner. “You can tell they don’t get any riff-raff - I really like that.”

She could be right. Around us, there are mostly meetings - papers strewn across tables, suits made for air conditioning on hot days, a lot of mundane chat about ‘deliverables’ and ‘actions’ that our heady cocktails did wonders at tuning out. Expected, I suppose. We’re next to Chancery Lane and close to Farringdon.

And so it is here you’ll find a mostly Indian lunch-time menu to partner with over 200 single malts and a specially-curated cocktail list that has few other intentions than to get you hammered - they’re no wall flowers. The food pares down to light dishes and bar snacks in the evening, and head chef Palash Mitra (previously at the Cinnamon Club) is behind it. I say ‘mostly Indian’; there are a few European-style casseroles thrown in for - what I can only assume - is good measure.

There was a chaat (which I can’t find on the online menu) tart from tamarind, with a touch of heat and a flourish of plump pomegranate jewels; dug out with crisp sourdough, it was very pleasant. Crisp soft-shell crab with chorizo oil had a great texture, sat on a bed of sweet apple matchsticks, but could have done with a dollop of hot paprika mayo - or something similar - to loosen things up (£12).

Grilled asparagus and a runny egg accompanied soft hunks of well-spiced chicken tikka, arranged elegantly on a lot of hot green chutney; a brunch-time winner (£9). There were firm oblongs of paneer cooked with a mush of punchy spinach concealing generous slithers of ginger and fenugreek - very good (£19). Then there was flaking-away fresh-water fish from south India in a rich gravy with glorious hits of cardamom (£17), and glossy black daal marbled with yoghurt.

King prawns with garlic and parsley - hailing from the slightly misplaced non-Indian entries - singled itself out by arriving on a board with crusty quarters of bread and a golden mound of what I think was a saffron mayonnaise. It was good (£17).

The cucumber raita was strained and thick, which pleased me greatly (I’m not the biggest fan of watery yoghurt - £4). Blistered and coriander-speckled naan was the preferred utensil of choice for the great job of sauce excavation that lay before us (£3.50).

If our dapper cocktails - plying us with their English sparkling wine, homemade vinegared shrub syrup, 18-year-old whiskeys, spice formulas that have seemingly been allocated hashtags (#GI08 - whatever that is), Victorian lemonade and elderflower foams - didn’t provide enough booze for a weekday lunch, the Bailey’s chocolate pot administered a final dose. It’s boozy and wanton, with a mousse bottom layer, frozen dark chocolate shavings, crunchy dark chocolate balls, and delivered on one of those antique books (£6).

The pricing seems a little haphazard. Starters, sides and desserts are reasonable. Some mains are down-right spendy for what they are. And cocktails come in at £14.50. One could very easily, and under the influence of such splendid surroundings, end up with a sore wallet at lunch. They know their target market, and their target market (I suspect) are people who 1) work close by or 2) have the sort of funds that enable them to stay at The Rosewood in the first place.

The evening snack menu is nothing but reasonable, ranging from £5.50 for a smoke salmon pot with bread, to £13 for a burger or club sandwich.

I fully plan a revisit. It’s the after dark entertainment I’m after, with candlelight, live music and a higher level of general room inebriation. The connoisseurs behind the bar are calling me.

Liked lots: cocktails, food, interiors, staff, Giovanni - the wonderful bar manager
Liked less: some of the lunch mains feel steep
Good for: work, pleasure, impressing a date, solitary dining with a good book

My rating: 3.5/5

Scarfes Bar opened to rave reviews towards the end of 2013. One step inside and we could see why. It is one of the most beautiful bars in London, and probably the world. There are imposing chandeliers, a Mad Men-worthy fireplace and library, a lavish back bar, cosy nooks and crannies, and most importantly, space!

Scarfes Bar is named after renowned British artist and caricaturist, Gerald Scarfe (best known for Pink Floyd's The Wall), who is creating bespoke murals for his namesake bar.

“I am, of course, tremendously flattered and I reason that, if the Prince of Wales can have a pub named after him, why shouldn’t I have a bar?” says Gerald. “In the past, the work of caricaturists such as Hogarth and Spy has hung on bar walls and, as the atmosphere of this bar is very British, I am keeping up the tradition and caricaturing some of Britain’s famous citizens, fictional and otherwise, past and present, from Winston Churchill to the Rolling Stones and James Bond. I will look upon Scarfes Bar as a private art gallery where people will be able to have a drink and relax while they observe my paintings in true comfort.”

We found a pair of incredibly comfortable armchairs & a chess table tucked away, metres from any other tables, and settled in. To seal the deal, a live jazz band started playing as we were working our way through the menu. Forget cocktails, I just want to spend the whole night here with a bottle of whiskey.

We eventually decided to order a cocktail, and we couldn't resist picking from their Grey Goose BAFTA specials menu. Our first waitress was totally clueless and only seemed to know the words Grey Goose, but luckily waitress No.2 was right at the other end of the scale. After a quick look at us, she recommended the exact two cocktails that we had been eyeing up.

I went for the Gravity inspired Cosmonaut - Grey Goose, La Poire, Ginger Liqueur, Lime and Cardamom, finished with a Space Candy Dusted Grape. The flavours were initially a bit too funky but really started to blend well as the drink went on. By the end I was hooked, the opposite of my experience watching Gravity - sorry, Sandra.

Mary was delighted with her L'Amour Moderne, inspired by Her (that one with Joaquin Phoenix looking sad and Scarlet Johansson as a sexy computer). If they were going for a bitter sweet reference, they nailed it with Grey Goose, Citron, Vodka, Pomegranate, Passion Fruit, Grapefruit & Campari Bitters.

Cocktails are pricey, ranging from £12.50-£14.50 which will lead to comparisons with Artesian (recently voted No.1 Bar in the World) but I am happy to pay the mark-up when the atmosphere is incredible (and there are free nuts, of course). I wouldn't be surprised to see Scarfes Bar sneaking into the World's 50 Best Bars list this year.

The Rosewood is a relatively new development on High Holborn and has automatically been crowned the suave spot of the area. The large establishment is all-encompassing; a cute deli and American-style dining room are on your left, Scarfes bar on your right and the main hotel straight ahead. A colleague and I paid a visit to Scarfes after a busy day at the office, and I was immediately impressed by its grandiosity. It was surprisingly full considering the early hour of the evening, busy with client meetings, post-work gatherings and visitors of the hotel.

The attention to detail and excellent quality all around is what makes it stand out; everything feels plush, new, well-cared for and quality. Walking in from the bustling street, you are automatically transported into a world of calm quality and sophisticated security.

We perched at the bar on old leather green high chairs, so that we could eye up the well-equipped bar and mixologist. The bar is a wall of fantastic quality liqueurs and equally interesting mixers. Cocktails are their starring point, but we opted for wine and promptly received elegant glasses of perfectly chilled white. They are a pretty penny and smaller than average (served at 125ml) but for the ambience and pleasant environment, we felt it reasonable. The waiter was brilliant; never left us neglected and provided bar nuts (and very snaffle-able cheese biscuits!) as soon as we sat down.

The buzz of the bar is comforting and the ideal level of busy; enough to know you’re in a good place but not so much that you’re forgotten about or squashed against other bodies (save that for the tube journey home). There are tables of various sizes in nooks and crannies around the deceivingly large bar, and more substantial nibbles available, should your stomach require it.

Although it has a slightly more pretentious feel to it than say Sushi Samba or the Lobby bar at Edition, both bars of similar quality and air, it was still very pleasant and felt like drinking in an old boy’s club. Although slightly disappointed that there were no cigars being passed around, I was very satisfied to see a black piano in the corner of the bar. What better than live music to wash down your cocktails?!

Great service and an air of elegance, this is a wonderful spot to treat yourself after a hard day’s work. Cocktails are their forte so try the very popular Seine River Fizz: a delicious and refreshing concoction of lemonade, ginger, Grey Goose, basil and elderflower ‘foam’.

Bars at Rosewood are always a must try, especially this one in London, in a historic majestic building. We came here on a Friday evening, arrived at 20 mins before 8pm. We didn’t make reservation and there were empty seats. We were seated at the table. The drink menu shows plenty of whisky and cocktails. I highly recommend the Japanese sparkling sake, sweet and smooth, and only £12 for 300ML 5% alcohol. Really suitable for girls. The snacks are free, nuts and olives 🫒. Live music starts at 8pm. The atmosphere is so chill, everyone is having a nice chat. Our serving staff is very attentive, he kept pouring drinks for us, clean up our table and bring in new snack when the plates are close to empty. The decor is very classy, British style. Chairs are comfortable. The whole hotel is just very grand and beautiful. They charge 15% service charge and I think it’s worth it. When we left at around 10pm, there is a queue by the door already. So come early if you can!

Second time having a cocktail here! A post lunch cocktail after lunch at the dinning room! Reminds me of the bar at the four seasons in Paris! I love the atmosphere, and the seating, very calm and relaxed, beautiful interior too. The cocktails selection was diverse, and service was fast and friendly! Will be back thank you

#41 World’s best bar (2023) (Look up World’s 50 Best Bars Ranking) Bar inside the Rosewood hotel building. Very classy bar with a lot of cartoon art and live music. Quite unique combination. Vibe is incredible. Dress up - you don’t want to feel underdressed here. Drinks are good but a bit too expensive (£25-30)

Impeccable service and atmosphere at Scarves. Wonderful artwork of Mr. Scarves decorates the large and comfortable room, with a range of different seating styles. We loved that there's no reservation, ensuring all walks of life can enter the bar and enjoy the live music that plays in the evening. Cocktails are expensive, but well worth every penny - your purchase of a drink also comes with complementary nuts and olives which are fantastic. Incredible work by the staff who run a tight ship here. Looking forward to my next visit!

i had the most wonderful time at this bar ! you are served like a queen/king and the waiters and bartenders are amazing and make you feel at home and comfortable. The music is velvet to the ear, and if you have the chance to meet the pianist, take it ! he’s extremely talented and sings and plays piano and bass and the same time ! mind-blowing ! I was alone but I wasn’t bored, Arturo, one of the bartenders kept me entertained with stories, Italian lessons and his hypnotizing way of serving drinks, as if he was putting a part of his soul in every drink. piacere Arturo, looking forward to come and speak French with you again soon ! to anyone reading this, you should come, don’t be ashamed, just try it out, thank me later ! ( ps : take the Rum and roll, it Rocks !)

We had a brilliant evening- a beautiful space, stunning cocktails and superb service. Arturo, our server, was perfectly skilled in his professionalism: attentive, humorous and warm without being intrusive or familiar. We felt very welcomed (including the doorman, who was great) and can't wait to return

Amazing atmosphere, especially in the evening with the live music. Cocktails were delicious, albeit very expensive! Definitely worth one drink and we didn’t feel rushed even though it was a Friday evening. There was no skimping on the nibbles, olives and nuts replenished frequently. Loved the caricature theme. Will be back for a near future special occasion.

I’ve visited some of the best 50 bars in London but by far Scarfes is one of the best. All cocktails are very creative and flavorful, all staff members are super kind and the vibe they create it’s high class. Especially thanks to Marco and Nóra for the service and spectacular drinks😊
