What can be better than seeing a movie with friends? When it then becomes a dinner outing to complete the day. Luckily for us, Kings Cross has an array of restaurants including Dishoom. Dishoom has been attempted to go to for a while but for one reason or another, it hasn’t happened. Until this particular evening when we were hungry after the movie.

I had my favourite food at this place. Their lamb chops are so delicious. There is amazing chole bhatoore. If you are from delhi, you would know the struggle of eating good choley bhatoore. I love to visit this place and would recommend everyone to visit

This is an amazing restaurant London. I always try to go to this place whenever I’m there in the city.
My all-time favourite dishes from here are sali bauti, pao bhaji, dal makhani, and chicken roll.
I also like there Dishoom IPA beer.
This is a must visit outlet for all people looking for Iranian Indian food. The ambience is awesome and the staff is really very courteous. It is highly recommended to visit this place by reserving a table in advance.

Because this is favourite in London. Best Indian food in London May it be breakfast, lunch or dinner this is the place from bun Maska to vadapao you can get everything and it’s yum. Sometime you have to wait if planning to go on Friday and Saturday but it’s worth waiting as who don’t like free chai while waiting.

Dishoom is always my go to whenever I have guests or whenever my friends and I have something to celebrate. The service is always good and the food speaks for itself! The black daal is a personal favourite of mine and the pomegranate bellinis! Pretty reasonably priced by London standards too

Visited this place today with a friend. Location is ideal and is very close to the King’s Cross / St. Pancreas International train station. I had heard this place is always crowded and is a must visit in case you have a craving for Indian cuisine plus if you do not want to compromise on the ambiance.

Well it was indeed crowded with a waiting time of at-least 30 mins. We decided to sit at the bar table instead. The interiors are truly amazing. They have picked up quite a few amazing ideas from the local Mumbai culture especially the irani / parsi cafes there.

The place is brimming with people / of different nationalities who flock here to enjoy the indian cuisine in a truly indian way.

We wanted to go light and hence just ordered regular Indian tea and vada Pao. The taste was just as I would find in any good shop/cafe back in India and vada Pao was served with the gun powder, fried green chilli and the chatni (sauce). The taste was 100% authentic and I instantly felt that I am back home in India.

Hats off to these guys and I am glad to know there are numerous Dishoom outlets in London and at other places.

The service is pretty quick. The staff is quite hospitable and full of energy. You will not be disappointed for sure. The menu offers a good collection of starters to main-course and a wide variety of vegetarian/non-vegetarian options.

The AH Wheeler & Co. (inscribed in Hindi) at the top of the ceiling still resonates in my mind J . Hats off to the creativity and for bringing the Indian essence all the way to London.

I had a great experience and I would certainly recommend others to visit here, to enjoy the Indian cuisine.

I feel they deserve a 5 on all the parameters. Kudos to the team.

Not only do I love the place for its decor, the quirkiness of the menu, the lovely lamb shanks (the Nalli Nihari is a must) and the finger food, you soon realise that this is turning out to be an institution.
Not only is Dishoom a huge favourite of Indians visiting London, the locals love this desi extravaganza.

Went to Dishoom with 3 friends for dinner. The service was great and the waiter was helpful as two of us had not been before. We arrived early and were seated in the bar for 30 minutes for a table, you can’t book, but if you get there after 7:30 queue starts getting bigger. Now the food, the black Dahl was simply amazing and is worth going alone. We had around 9 different dishes between us. The breads were nice. The prawns were a little disappointing but the chicken tikka was nice and spicy. The vegetable dishes on offer , especially the Paneer and Biriyani were also excellent. Clean plates and happy stomachs all around.

My favourite Indian restaurant in London! The long queues and wait times of over an hour are a reflection of the superb food that is worth the wait totally!

Classic Bombay ambience - very Indian vintage.
Service is super quick.
Food:
Chocolate chai: my fav! Love it. It’s a mix of creamy hot chocolate and chai and it’s a delight to have.

Vada pav: drool! The flavours of the patty and the orange chutney are just like INDIA. Stuffed in soft warm buns.

Chole puri: pleasant surprise that it’s served with halwa which is typical Indian. The halwa is my fav part in this meal :) Chole quantity is a lot for two pooris!

Black dal: one of my favourites here. It’s creamy and made to perfection. Yummy with roomali rotis.

Crispy okra: yumm yumm. Love it.

Matar paneer: the paneer is sooo soft it melts in the mouth, the curry is very less oily and the taste is spot on.

Pav Bhaji: again less oil, perfect taste.

Jackfruit Biryani: the only bummer. Didn’t like this one at all.

Definitely going again n again n again!

One of the best Indian restaurants in London. I often take my friends here to introduce them to good Indian food.

I like the vibe of the place. It resembles old Irani style cafes of Bombay. The staff is friendly as always. However, there is always a long queue and the wait time could average about 45-60 mins depending on the time and day. It's worth it tho would totally recommend.

You should try Vada Pav for starters. One of the bests I have had.

I’m pretty sure this is the best Indian food I’ve eaten in my life. The Nihari was absolutely delicious. The chicken tikka was so tender and full of flavour. The fried chilies were delicious and for the starter the Pau Bhaji was fantastic.

This was our first experience at Dishoom although many of our friends recommend that we visit the place when in London. We had huge expectations before our visit and the food and service did not miss its mark. The appetizers and main course were both execllent. Our server had great knowledge about the food and recommended dishes that best suited what we were looking for. It was a great experience.

Awesome is the word :) it all starts with great ambience - colonial India with Irani style decor and pictures including shouchalaya and taps..

As a tourist from india, the food was surprisingly tasty.  Paneer roll, Pav bhaji was yummy... chhole is one dish which is great anywhere - but well made bhaturas with sheera... kaali daal was very north indian and just the right masalas...

the only thing that pissed me was the limited options for veggies.. just the four of us and we almost ate 80% of the veggie menu... would like to have more items on my next annual visit..

waiting on fridays was killing as we got the table after 90 mins - surprisingly they serve lemonade / tea for people waiting in the queue..

pricing is just right.. the bill surprised us.. hope to visit the other outlet on my next visit... till then Dishoom!!!

Very Authentic Indian food. We were 6 pax so tried many dishes, each was great. Puri Chole was truly North Indian. The Mutton Briyani was also cloe to Lukhnavi Dum Phukt ( unfortunately Hyderabad Biriyani is not available) . Butter Chicken is also worth a try. We also tried Mutton seekh kabab which also nice. In drinks Kokum Sharbat was a bit strong for my liking and Watermelon Sherbat as per my companions was devoid of any watermelon juice.
Must try to start Fried Okhra. It's nice & crunchy, interesting to have while waiting for main course
Over all the food is amazing.
The decor is very interesting , like a railway station.
Be prepared for a long wait if you do not reserve. In evening u need minimum 6 pax for reservation.
Place is worth the trouble . Great indian food in London .

You know how we say, the food at desi restaurants abroad isn’t just the same. Well dishoom packs a punch to those who say that! Coz their Indian fare isn’t just Indian enough, it is kick ass!
I am absolutely in love with their dal makhni - black lentils. One of the best dal makhni I’ve ever tried in and outside of India! Sooo good! The okra fritters are again absolutely crazy! Must have! Spicy okra packs a punch. Who knew our modest bhindi could make such a wonderful bar snack! Their vada Pav had my maharashtrian friend drooling , he said It’s better than what you get at some Bombay street shops! That’s a mighty compliment. He gorged on a couple - says a lot when these are extremely overpriced when compared to how much you pay for it in India! The chat items are again all amazing!
Hospitality wise - again they are one of the best in town! Serving chai to people waiting outside in lines ( there are always so many people lined up outside, no matter when you decide to go) , once I visited with my parents and my mom looked super tired, and the kind hostess gave us a seat near the bar to wait, despite the lines outside ! The servers are all very attentive and help make the ordering process super convenient.
Ambience - quirky! Gives you the feel of a typical Bombay Irani style cafe! That’s what they wanted to to achieve and it shows. Been to a few other branches and the ambience everywhere is super cool!
Definitely a must visit place for anyone visiting! Double thumbs up 👍🏼 👍🏼

Man, Dishoom is the place to be at if you are a foodie and are in London. Seriously, everyone who likes Indian food must try this place. The setting is dim but impressive as it’s not so dark that you can’t even give your menu a thorough glance. And, the staff is so so nice! They recommend you drinks and dishes in the most invigorated and friendly way. They are also observant and polite. The food is abundant with taste and style. Indian food is stigmatized to be very spicy but the food served here destroys that notion! The ambience is worth being a part of as well! I am definitely going for dinner here again!

Had heard so much about this place so finally tried. This place resembles and old Irani cafe set up of early bombay. I loved the ambiance, very nostalgic and brought back memories of childhood visits to these Irani cafes of bombay. The food was amazing, they have a very good menu. The Kheema Pav and prawn Koliwada were very good and the chilli cheese toast was good too. The bhaang Lassi was good and quite different. Also the Kulfi was nice. Service was very prompt and professional. Portion size were decent and the lovely ambiance and great food adds to good value for money.

Oh we had heard so much about this place and finally went to try it. Reaching there we realised that there were many more people like us who had heard about the place because there was a one hour waiting for a Saturday Lunch.

The place wasn’t very catchy on the decor but its food talked and oh god, it talked a lot!
What we ordered:

Paneer tikka - These are cottage cheese cubes that are marinated in a curd sauce and cooked to perfection. Coming from India, where this is every vegetarian lover’s favourite dish, I felt this was a little blant and lacked the spiciness the dish should carry.

House Black Dal - This was the star dish of the day and it was better than anything I have eaten in India! Totally makes me want to come again and again for it!

Breads - Both, the roomali roti and the naan were very soft and not very chewy.

I loved the place and will definitely go again whenever I am in London.

For everyone who is in London and loves Indian food or wants to try Indian food, Dishoom is the place to be.

One of the benefits of moving to King's Cross is being so close to Dishoom. I still fondly remember my first visit to the Covent Garden branch and the exciting opening of the even cooler Shoreditch one (. I've made it an unofficial resolution to try every dish at Dishoom this year. I don't think it will be too difficult with a few group visits. Admittedly I'm not that big on their breakfasts so would be content just with the main menu.

Literally my favourite place to eat. Note: this place isn't Indian, it's the food Iranian immigrants brought to Bombay, it's an excellent and authentic fusion instead of modern fusion. It's an amazing concept, which brings to life the old Bombay cafe's, which barely exist anymore.

I've been both for dinner and breakfast, the bacon naan is excellent, as is the bread to dip in chai tea.

This place is insanely good and I highly recommend you experience both breakfast and dinner.

Just fabulous food. And michaela who served our food was simply excellent as well. Took the time to check if our food was completely vegetarian. Served with a smile. The jackfruit biryani was one of a kind. Never had it before anywhere in india, and that's saying something since we travel a lot and eat out a lot. The chole was good too, just like in india. The naan was soft and fluffy and stayed that way even when cold :). The wine list is extensive. The restaurant is a little noisy. Sounds like a busy darshani in India. That's probably because people just don't stop coming in for lunch and it's 4 p.m now. Well done dishoom. Also special mention , you get kala Khatta here. Was too full to try this awesomeness but WHAT!!!! Kala Khatta in London! The only fault we could find was the Paneer. Didn't taste fresh. But the gravy of the mater paneer was to die for. Docking of 0.5 for the paneer and the noise.

Dishoom has got to be up there with my favourites restaurants in all of London. The atmosphere really is second to none here. It's great for date night, brunch with friends, birthday celebrations, I've done them all here, and everyone I have taken has come away seriously impressed. I like the family sharing style where you order a few dishes off the menu and try a bit of everything. The waiting staff are friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu. Of course, the food itself is delicious! Really flavoursome and always well cooked. I am a big fan of the chai and the cocktails too! I recently tried their variation of a bread and butter pudding for dessert, served with cinnamon ice cream. I couldn't get it off my mind for days!

Amazing place!

Had to wait for over an hour to get a table, but the friendly staff who brought us first some drinks and then directed us to a small waiting area bar, made it seem like it wasn't that much after all.

The food was great, all really spicy but great. One thing I didn't really like was the dim light which made it difficult to see what we were eating..

When we were leaving, a member of the staff came up to us and explained a bit of the history of the place!

Dishoom is a London franchise based on the famous Bombay Irani cafés of the early 1900’s. This King’s Cross branch, the third incarnation, is fashioned out of an old railway transit shed which was actually used for goods passing between Britain and India. Built over three floors (two and a half really), its interior unashamedly flaunts India’s colonial past, successfully creating a familiar, nostalgic, cosy ambiance. I was as equally happy sipping cocktails at the bar downstairs as I was dining on the top floor.

Long line to enter but the place was spacious enough to fut a lot of customers. Could be hard to have a conversation at its busiest time. Dimly lit to support the ambience, which was nice.

Ordered cheese naan, chicken tikka, mahi tikka and chicken ruby for the main, shared between 4 people. Portion sizes were ample if a bit towards the small side. Cheese naan and chicken tikka especially were the highlights. House chai was a good accompaniment to the meal.

Pineapple crumble and chocolate pudding made great desserts. On default the chocolate pudding would come with chilli ice cream, but we could swap with cinnamon ice cream, which we preferred.

The long wait to be seated at this restaurant was more than worth it. The food has just the right level of twist to be a pleasant surprise for people who have tasted Indian food before while easing first timers into Indian food (like the couple at the next table when we visited). I don't know if we were a little extra hungry or if the portions were small but we ended up ordering a lot of food by the time we were through. Our favorite dishes - the fried okra starter, gunpowder potatoes, roomali rotis, the paneer dish, chhole bhatoore, and the black daal. My "foodie" wife felt that the food wan't authentic Indian but I think that was the point. As a visitor to London, I was happy to discover the Indian detour to Dishoom.

Dreams collide in the bacon naan roll at Dishoom. It was my most hyped up dish and it took me a few months to find my way to it. I was meeting a new friend and we had decided on checking on the Dishoom here in King’s Cross. Of the three Dishooms I’ve visited so far, this is my favourite interior by a mile. There’s oodles of seating about and it’s generally very light filled and airy. In some of the more metropolitan Dishrooms you get a sense of crampiness. This could have been due to the vibes of the evening, but I’m sure the King’s Cross is massive in space. Even at breakfast time, it’s always worthwhile booking a table like we did, as the wide space does fill up.

I had the bacon and egg naan roll (£6.90) (of course) and we shared the Kejriwal (chilli cheese) toast. And what can I say? The bacon naan is a treat. The freshly baked naan bread is sandwiched with cream cheese, chili jam, herbs, and the aforementioned bacon and eggs. The bacon is dry cured and the overall dish comes across as very sweet, and that’s due to the chili jam. It verges on too sugary for my tastes, but I did enjoy it thoroughly. For me it was a messier eat, than my friend who want for the original recipe bacon no eggs naan. This signature dish is also remarkable for being such good value at that price, this contributes to its enduring popularity no doubt.

Dishoom at King's Cross is a lovely refurbishment of a warehouse. The ambiance is old Indian British Bombay Parsi types and is a treat to watch in London. There could be a long waiting queue in the evening for dinner, so come early.

We ordered for:
Samosa - A bit oily, but a decent starter.
Paneer Tikka - Subtle spices over soft cottage cheese.
Black Dal - Very tasty and recommended.
Garlic Nan - It is made using eggs, although it tasted same as what we get in India. The garlic was subtle and not strong.
Chana Bhatura - Very tasty too.
Four of us could manage a light dinner without alcohol under £50.
The food options for vegetarians are less but sufficient enough to have a decent meal.

Overall, the food was pretty good. It is obviously not same as what you would get in India, but I really liked the staff's courteous service and the overall experience. I would definitely recommend Dishoom for a quirky and delightful meal.

Headed to this place to grab something  "Indian" type of food. I was inspired by the "Hindi" themes and signboards everywhere.  The place was packed on a typical  working day.

Ambience :- The place is located very near to Kings Place and it is one of a kind Indian Restaurant. The ambience was nice and calm. I could see many Indian people around. To my interest, i could also see many Brits, gathering in this joint for lunch. The menu was not a card, but more similar to a newspaper

Food:- The food was tasty and was served with Indian Taste. The utensils was also perfect .  I ordered a exquisite "Bhaang lassi" which was aawwsome..

Service:-  Service was too nice and courteous . we were offered free "Masala Chai" after our lunch. It tasted perfect.

Head to this place, if you are anywhere near Kings place..

One of my favourite places to eat in London. Breakfast wise make sure you arrive before 11.30am; there is usually a line so if you arrive later there is a high chance you won't make it before the breakfast service ends! Highly recommend the bacon naan roll; have also tried the kerjiwal which was tasty, but the mango and fennel lassi I found quite stock standard, since it was just mango lassi with some fennel seeds on top. Lunch wise I highly recommend the mango and paneer salad, as well as the romali roti which is perfect with curry. Wash it all down with a Bombay Colada, and you've got a delicious meal!

Another trip to Dishoom. This time it was to King's cross. I am amazed by the service. Even while waiting they keep serving chai to the people who are waiting. This shows that they care about the customers who are outside waiting for long time which I guess is not available in many good restaurants that I have visited.
I went with family yesterday evening and it was very crowded. The person who was taking the booking was kind enough to take order for few drinks while waiting because the bar was also crowded. I was impressed and still thinking about the positive experience. This time I ordered Vada pav. It was simply awesome. I was surprised to see that it was tasting very similar to what you get on Indian streets and that too with the fried mirchi and the red chilli powder along with mint chutney. For bringing the taste of indian street food in London King's cross for that I appreciate the person who conceptualised this idea of bombay café,  the ambience, as well as the chef who is bringing that taste to Indian's like us who really love food.
I have two suggestions for Dishoom. The spread for veg curries should be increased and they should take booking for any number of customers. At present, they only take booking if there are 6 or more customers.

This was a very good experiance. When entering g the place looked amazing with a unique style to it. We were placed in the downstairs bar as we waited patiently to be given a seat. The bar along with the rest of the restaurant had a great atmosphere. Bar had a great selection of drink (including non alcoholic). We had to wait about 40 mins but time flyed. We ordered every started and main on the menu. Food was great and really taste prawns, tikka and lamb chops were all very tasty and biryani was very filling. However all the food lacked a bit of spice, which was missing form these south Asian dishes. Food somewhat tasted a bit bland when it came to spices mesmerising your taste buds. The reason for this is the fact that this is not probably a genuine indian restaurant, but a British colonised version of Indian food, that's why it's so bland (cos w ppl season with water and salt lol jk). Overall was a great experiance service was very good but a bit pricey with service charge.

Dishoom is somewhere I had wanted to visit for a while, largely down to the significant hype that seemed to surround it in the foodie social media sphere. With tickets booked for an 8pm show near King’s Cross, it seemed like the perfect time to squeeze in an early dinner at this branch of Dishoom, in a bid to avoid the inevitable queue (you can only book if more than a party of 6).

What I probably hate the most is the fact that I always have to wait to get into Dishoom. Being an Indian and finding good Indian food in London is always a fun task but Dishoom has been my go-to since Uni days. It's where I started learning to love Okra - YES it's real. The bacon naan rolls are sooooo good! LAMB BOTI, yes pls!

Great decor, service and ambience! Food was good but not that great to stand in line for hours together.
The vada pao and chicken ruby were the better dishes ordered. The cheese naan was dry and rubbery and the chicken biryani was okay. Also ordered the prawn kolivada which was decent as well.

The drinks however are delicious and would recommend the Bombay Colada!

Had dinner at dishoom on a Monday night (6pm) and was happy to note there wasn't a line just yet. Ordered the keema pau (nice flavours), chicken malai (yoghurt based dry chicken- moist and nice), spicy lamp chops (beat dish of the night - great flavours). Ordered the bhang lassi (non alcoholic) which was different but nice.

The service was also very good and attentive. Would highly recommend it. Maybe next time will try some curry dish or rice.

Really good place for lunch or dinner or if you're just having drinks. The staff is one of the best. The little drawback is that when I asked them to make something spicy, they said they couldn't cuz it's pre cooked already. But the food tastes good the drinks are amazing. Chai is amazing over there. Must try.

After an hour long wait, I finally got to enter the highly acclaimed restaurant on my birthday this year. While waiting outside, waiters came around with trays of chai, served the Indian way in tea glasses like they do along Indian roadsides.
The restaurant has an air of sophistication and class. The menu resembled the ones you would find at a Bombay cafe.I absolutely love Farsi food and Dishoom is the ideal place to suffice your cravings for Farsi food. I would say the food is authentic, flavoursome and almost as spicy. The place was crowded but the service was impeccable.
Ideal for reunions, dates (but not first dates!), family gatherings, birthdays (the waiters presented me with a cake at the end of our meal). The hour long wait was the only put off otherwise an all in all amazing meal.

The best Indian food!
I had a great time and the food is outstanding, would definitely recommend this place. The service was good, the vibe is really cool and cosmopolitan. I had the lamb chops, daal, naan bread and tried my friends dishes too. Big thumbs up!
Would have been 5 stars if there wasn't such a wait to be seated but I totally understand why; well worth it in the end!

I'm very very particular about my Indian food and London is a breeding ground for imitation Indian restaurants. Disjoin, however, is a place that offers an authentic dining experience. From the okra fries to the ruby chicken, the shifting dishes as per the season makes Dishoom a must-have on your favourites in London!

Visited this place on weekday for late lunch. Had heard about the long queues. However still had to wait for about an hour although didn't mind it with the great beer and samosas at the basement bar. Once at the table we ordered a lot of food and everything was good. Place had a distinct feel to it. Not the best of ambiance but who cares when you are with good friends and great food.

After sometime we were guided to our table where we ordered variety of dishes. All in all a good experience- I prefer this one over Covent garden.

I dined in this much popular and happening indian restaurant/bombay cafe during my london visit last week.
We visited their branch in kingscross for dinner on a weekday. We were welcomed with a very long que and their staffs informed as we need to wait for alteast an hour for the table. However we decided to wait. They served us some delicious indian chai while we were waiting. After a long wait our table was ready.
Restauarant was fully packed.its huge and the whole setup was beautiful.it reminded me of those dark pubs we see in bollywood movies.Loved the whole 'bombay setup' and their amazing bollywood playlist. We ordered few of their famous starters and maincourses.Limca and nimbupani as drinks and waited eagerly.Food arrived really quick.
Food was absolutely delicious and very desi.Loved the chutneys they served.Totally impressed.

It's the best Indian cuisine restaurant in London. Right from the ambiance, the decor, food, service everything is perfect. They have maintained the classic Indian look throughout the restaurant (including the toilets). Food, yes it indeed gives you the taste of authentic Indian food. We had tried Vada Pav (staple food of Mumbai), Pav Bhaji, Tandoori, Chicken and Paneer Tikka, everything was amazing. This place has an outdoor, indoor (at ground level), at level 1 (what they call the balcony), and -1 (which has the bar + dining) sitting areas. I loved personally loved the sub level (-1).
Table reservations are recommended, waiting could take upto an hour.

The place is built like an old Irani café in Mumbai. It’s like going back in time. They have achieved in creating a very retro look with great attention to detail. From the cutlery, to the furniture and fittings, bathrooms etc have all been carefully picked to give a very ‘back in the time’ feel. I have to give a special mention to the staff. They are a very friendly and welcoming bunch. When they saw we had a young child with us, they ensured to give us a table more suitable i.e. with more space. While queening outside, there are waitresses who will take your name and will provide you with an estimated waiting time, so you know exactly where you stand. They offer you free welcome drinks, with a choice of mint tea or masala tea, which will help you keep warm and makes your waiting time seem shorter. Once you get in, you are given a buzzer that vibrates when your table is available. In the meanwhile, you are sent to a cocktail bar downstairs, which again is very tastefully setup with the drinks well priced and not too expensive (£5-10). Within 10-15 mins in the bar area, we were guided to our table. The menu is well designed with not too many dishes on the menu, yet a nice variety of dishes. As a starter, Okra fry is excellent. ‘Black Daal’ is excellent, which you can either order with rice or eat with roti. From the list of ‘street food’ items on the menu, like Pav Bhaji, Chole Bhature, Vada Pav. The cups in which tea is served is exactly how they were served back in the day and even the temperature at which the tea is served is taken care off(not too hot/not too cold).

The keema per eedu is one of my favourite breakfasts - completely delicious (and much more exciting than the bacon naan in my opinion, which was faultless but ultimately just bacon in a naan). I love the space itself which makes breakfast feel like a special occasion, and there's always a wonderful buzzing atmosphere but it's never so loud that you're struggling to hear. The service has always been fantastic too. One of my favourite breakfast spots that I often recommend to friends visiting.

What’s The Deal? A vast Bombay style cafe serving modern Indian food throughout the day, with a stylish cocktail menu to match. We started off with the Far Far crackers (which came with some interesting dipping sauces) and delicious Vegetable Samosas. The food is almost tapas style in that it just comes out whenever it’s ready, so you are constantly grazing which I was perfectly happy with!

Been waiting to try this place for quite some time! The ambience is so nostalgic, just like old time Irani cafes. Really liked have they tried to maintain the authenticity, including in the toilets. The menu is quite interesting. I ordered Bhel and Chilli cheese toast. Both were yummy and well made. Paneer roll was really good and so was the roomali roti and paneer tikka. Sugarcane juice, which is such a rarity in UK restaurants, was soothing. And the best was the malai kulfi, not icy, proper creamy and yummy! Good that they also do takeaway. Will definitely visit again and try more stuff.

I'm always slightly wary about venturing outside of Tooting for a curry, but I found myself in the freezing wilderness of a redeveloped Kings Cross and on the hunt for something that would warm the cockles. Cue a queue free Dishoom. Stepping into the cavernous converted warehouse was like entering another world. Tiled floors, lush palm plants, ceiling fans lazily spinning; it was as if we had gone back to a more elegant time. We had to wait for around 10 minutes before a table was free, but this was hardly a chore as we relaxed in the sophisticated lounge chairs and perused the menu.

I had the good fortune at dining at Dishoom recently. I was so caught up in the lovely ambience (inconsistent music though?) and the Britannia feast that I signed up for that I missed poring over the rest of their menu. Huge regret because I know it would have been a hell of a nostalgia trip! As expected, it was a packed afternoon and while we were seated right away, we had to wait nearly an hour for the food. But when it arrived, it was glorious. Note that I can only comment on the veg food.

The Britannia feast offers a well-balanced variety of options. It's lovely to see things like the humble bhel puri and kulfi find their way into a menu like this. Of all the snacks on offer, I enjoyed the bhel and samosas most. The bhel and pav bhaji especially struck me as a great idea, full of memories for those who know it and a surprising discovery for the ones who don't. Watch out for the delicious dal makhani, as close to authenticity as it can get. I could not place the gunpowder potatoes and being as heavy, it seemed ill fit. In all courses, the paneer dishes were a definite letdown, all fault lying with the quality of the paneer. I sipped on a fairly poor mango lassi through my meal. The kulfi at the end fared better, it certainly ticked the creaminess box, if not the flavor box as much. It was still a memorable meal for me.

Extra points just for the theme :)

'Reincarnation of Irani Cafe'

Talking about Indian food in UK - all it means is 'Curry' which is not just Indian food is all about...So my husband recommended me about this Irani Cafe called Dishoom at Kingscross…
Back in Mumbai during 1950's Irani Cafes used to be very popular food lifeline but gradually they have reduced and only few 30 's are left now . Although I did try some of them like 'Kalyani & co , Jimmy boy' and food out there is really yummy.

So we decided to have our early dinner at 'Dishoom @Kingscross. My husband did make me aware about the long queue… So standing in queue made me wonder what could possibly be the reason of such popularity.
It was freezing outside so staff members were offering different set of teas like mint, ginger to keep their guests warm ..

Finally our turn came but not really as we were asked if we can take bar seats or wait another 20mins for the table. I was kind of losing my patience so we decided to take Bar seats .
As soon as we entered and looked around the decore, felt as if we are transported to another ERA - Big station clock , weighing machine (your extra weight … oops!!!),Victorian style high ceiling stretching their arms in the form of long chain and rod to support coloured lamps and fans, Wooden chairs with extra armrest. On left side of the wall you will see some old style switch panels and big windows . On the same wall there are some 'Rules of Godown' which gave me a view of the kind of slogans that must have been used during independence movement. As you take the staircase you can see some black and white pictures.

Took a seat around the bar chair, it was wooden yet comfortable. As I was feeling hungry quickly looked at the menu ..

Drinks:

'PEGS' section caught my eye cause of few interesting names … We decided to order a peg of fashion drinks (aged bottles) named 'Sonia's Negroni' and 'Viceroy's Old-Fashioned' followed by Beer.

When I checked with bar attendant he mentioned that these bottles are aged and gives really nice strong taste and mellows down slowly with ice.

Sonia's Negroni : The Italian lady goes native.. A mixture of Hayman’s London Dry Gin, bitter Campari and Dishoom vermouth, soaked with vanilla, cinnamon and ginger….As soon as I sniffed, could sense the intensity of flavours...Ah!! little strong for my taste.

Viceroy's Old-Fashioned : The sort of drink in which Lord Mountbatten may have found welcome repose. The aged bottle mixed with Woodford Reserve bourbon, bay leaf reduction, green tea and some dashes of orange.
It tasted really nice like the woody flavour mixed with green tea.

Food :

Keema Pau: (Non veg version of Pau Bhaji) Spiced minced lamb and peas with a toasted, buttered pau bun.
It was served in small portion with melted butter. Minced lamb was nicely mixed with spices. I could recall Mumbai keema Pau served in local stalls. It was tangy, spicy and overall yummy.

Spicy Lamb Chops : Lamb specially marinated with lime juice and jaggery, warm dark spices, ginger and garlic. As I am a big fan of Lamb I wanted to try lamb chops. Well to my surprise it was average in taste. In my expectation full flavour of lamb only stays if its moist and tender ...

Signature dish 'Black house DAL' : Dark black gram, rich, deeply flavoured Dal. It is simmered over 24 hours for extra harmony.
I must say this is truly a signature dish . The creamy texture perfectly blended with flavours of ginger and garlic along with spices made it so delicious. Perfect with Garlic Naan .
In India its called 'Dal makhani ' which is one of the treasured dishes of 'punjab' .

No meal can conclude without a good dessert. So from the pudding menu we ordered bowl of ice cream 'Cinnamon flavour' … If you are a cinnamon lover this is the ice cream for you.

Overall, the journey across Irani Cafe started off well with the unique aged bottle drinks, delicious starters and ended off well with a stimulating dessert. A few bumps here and there across the ride didn't impact the overall great experience that I had at Dishoom @Kingscross

My verdict:

Ambiance: 4.5/5
Drinks:4/5
Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Value for Money: 4.5/5

Totally Pays loving homage to the Irani cafés that were once part of the fabric of life in Bombay.

The place is modeled as an old Irani cafe in Mumbai. However the menu isn't anywhere close to an Irani cafe. They serve a mixed Indian fare. We had ordered House Dal and Ruby Chicken. Found it better than other Indian restaurants around but a bit overpriced. Reservation is highly recommended otherwise be prepared to wait for around an hour on the busy days.

I'm sure by now everyone would have heard of Dishoom in London, it's a Bombay style cafe serving Indian style street food located in various locations around London.I had friends visiting London from America last week, and they were eager to try out the Indian food offered in the UK. Seeing this opportunity, I suggested we try out Dishoom. As you might know, Dishoom unfortunately doesn't take reservations after 6pm, so we decided to try and do a walk in and test our luck.

A pure Bombay style cafe with authentic Bombay cafe food. I have been here thrice in two weeks for breakfast, lunch and dinner and indeed I wouldn't mind going again and again. Table reservation recommended or you got to wait in the queue for 45-50 minutes and a cutting chai is served, thankfully. The ambience is impressive it gives one the feel of Cafes in Bombay.
Recommended breakfast - Bombay omelette, the big Bombay , chai and bun maska
Lunch and dinner - paneer tikka roll, house black daal ( DAL MAKHANI) , lamb boti kabab

First of all there is a queue and you have to come prepared for it. If you are in a rush or do not want to wait then I don't recommend. In the queue there are waitresses taking note of your name telling you that there is a 2 hours waiting so that you manage your expectations. While you are there they are giving you free welcome drinks which helps you to warm and minimise the waiting.
After you get in they send you to a cocktail bar downstairs, very nice environment, the drinks list is extensive and cocktails are very good and not too expensive (8-10£). After 20/30min you are taken to the eating rooms (it can be in the lobby where there are sofas and short tables if you accept this choice when you are asked in the queue). The food list is not too big but there are plenty of options for all tastes. For 2 we had 3 starters and 1 special dish (beautifully cooked tender lamb with kind of nan bread). We had also a dessert. We payed the 2 of us 60£ including cocktails and snacks which is very good for the experience we ve had.
Forgot to say that service is very friendly and helpful, there are a lot of waiters.
Recommend and will return for sure!

In London, there is a plethora of Indian restaurants but only a few have managed to blow me away- Dishoom being one of them. It was quite a spontaneous decision to dine at Dishoom so I opted for the King's Cross location as it was closest to where I was at the time. To my surprise, I discovered that Dishoom neighboured Caravan King's Cross so I guess this experience was next on my food tour of the revitalised King's Cross neighbourhood.

Writing a review about Dishoom, I don't know where do I start!! One of my friends recommended me Dishoom to be one of the best restaurants serving Indian food! After looking up for the place, I came to know that it is a Bombay Cafe! Being from Bombay, I decided to visit the place the immediate day! First of all, Dishoom at Kings cross is in a comparatively less crowded place. It had a good long waiting time, indicating how excellent the place is, and trust me it was worth waiting! On entering the restaurant, which is a warehouse/godown converted, I was fascinated by the ambience and the aroma of the familiar Indian spices! Welcomed warmly by fresh and smiling faces, we were guided to our table by the staff. Explained about the menu (Though it was optional fir us) , we ordered most of whatever we could see on the menu! Vada Pau and Kheema Pau for the starters gave us an excellent start! Followed by East India Gimlet, one of the best cocktails I've ever had! We further gulped down the Dishoom Calamari and Prawns Koliwada. For the mains, we had Prawns Masala, Spicy Lamn Chops and Awadhi lamb biryani! I swear to God, I have never eaten lamb cooked with such perfection that it melts in your mouth! And finally after satisfying our taste buds, we gulped down the Masala Chai! Altogether, I had a wonderful and awesome time at Dishoom, with friendly staff, welcoming ambience and excellent food and service! Thanks Dishoom!

I guess the best Indian Pub-Restaurant currently in the world. Now the finer details. We had a booking for 20 a University Friends Reunion of sort for 7 PM. Since some of us were busy sightseeing at Camden Town, we chose to reach at 7 45 on a Saturday night. There was 60 people waiting line outside a 300 hundred seater restaurant and our seats had been reallocated to someone else by the time we reached given that they keep reserved tables for a strict 20 minutes at the max. Flashback - Booking was almost impossible here, through a contact and a lot of to and back emails we were able to book for the Saturday. The place is just huge and then on top designed using the ceiling height to make it look bigger than what it is. Every thing goes with the Bombay Irani Café theme but a lot of Metal is used which gives it a distinctive look. The place was a warehouse and has now been converted to this. The pictures available/shot do not justify the place.Crowd was mostly British with may be 10-15% Indians including some people on our group. Menu - done up very stylishly on a newspaper kind of format and the bar menu is done in a very old Bombay permit room style. Bar - Right near the entrance, one of the best looking bar for a restaurant with some supremely talented Barmen. The bar menu is very innovative. Food - Typical Irani Food, Soda Bottle Opener wala and the new Irani Cafes have been inspired and made from the Dishoom chain. The food was served hot with in 5 to 7 minutes of placing the order. The menu is short and crisp but food is excellent, tastes as good or even better than what you get at most restaurants in Mumbai for Irani café, Pricing - Value for Money, infact i would say its cheap for the kind of ambience and the food. I am writing this after may be 5 weeks of visiting this place so that the actual hangover of the place could go down. It Just Doesn't.

I went here for lunch with a friend, as we were both craving good Indian food and had heard so much about this place.
I was surprised to go inside and find 4 floors to the restaurant and they were all busy. This place really is that popular.
We ordered the Spicy Lamb Chops, the Chicken Ruby, a Vegetable Biryani and Tandoori Naan. For drinks we had the Bhang Lassi and a Meethi Lassi (sweet Lassi).
The Lassis just brought back memories of home and it was amazing. The Bhang Lassi also had this slight fruity touch which was pleasant.
The Spicy Lamb Chops were divine. The spice rub on them was flavorful and they were made to perfection. Do not be afraid to get your hands dirty with this one.
The Chicken Ruby was my favorite. It was basically Butter Chicken. The sauce was so rich and delicious and they were not stingy with the chicken either. It paired perfectly with my naan.
Speaking of naan, the Tandoori Naan was beautiful. I am a huge fan of anything bread and this did not disappoint.
The Vegetable Biryani was also quite good and tasted authentic as ever.
To finish off our meal we had a glass of Chai. It was Masala Chai and really warmed you up and made you feel so cosy. Perfect for the weather.
The waiting staff was also polite and made conversation with us, recommending the best and helping us choose.
The place is a bit on the pricey side but honestly quite worth it.

It seems that it's almost always impossible to get into the Dishoom restaurants. Everytime I walk past the Covent Garden branch after work, the queues snake 10 miles long. For dinner. How people can wait two hours long for food, I have no idea. But I guess it is probable if you either a) have combined patience of all the saints; b) make a booking 10 years ahead; c) wait with someone who can make you forget time while drinking potent cocktails that make you forget how hungry you are; or d) know the food is well worth it.

Excellent Indian and Persian restaurant. The food in dishoom is always incredibly fresh. Last time I was there they had an order delivered with all fresh veg and fruit - nothing ready made.

I've been for breakfast twice and would really recommend their breakfast. Excellent value for money and always incredibly tasty. Something on the menu for everyone and vegetarian friendly.

The restaurant itself is big but very ambient and the staff are friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Beware... The wait for table can be three hours and you can only book for 6 or more.

Arrived at 6pm on a friday evening and the wait was already 1.5 hours. We sat down stairss in the bar enjoying a few cocktails. I ordered the 'paan..??' (Can't remember the rest of it) which was nice and strong.
We only ended up waiting 45 mins before heading to the table.
The service was brilliant apart from the fact we had to wait 10 mins for someone to cone with a card machine to accept the payment. The waiters and waitresses had a good knowledge of the food, ingredients, and pronunciation was good depite not being indian.
Being indian and vegetarian, I was a bit disappointed with the selection.
We ended up ordering veg samosas, vada pav (tasted authentic - close to the real ver in indian), veg biryani (very good, small portion), mattar paneer (delicious), chicken ruby (a bit spicy but delicious), garlic naan (soft and fresh) and house chais (wonderful).
Loved the authentic and traditional feel to the place. The small details such as the glasses (glass and steel), gujarati and hindi writing, the toilets ahah were great!
Would definitely recommend the place.
Just wish the portions were bigger and there was more variety.

Dishoom you beauty!

Must try:
Vada Pav
Dal Makhani
Rajma Chawal
Some desert with berry and called Memsahib or something. INSANE.

A fantastically conceptualised restaurant with a lot of Indian comfort food options like chaats and wraps and Rajma Chawal. Loved the decor, loved the food and loved them feels.

Be prepared for long queues. And wait. Worth it!

We were on a holiday in London and a friend happened to refer us to this place. Having tried scores of restaurants in India and Dubai, I wasnt quite sure on what more could I expect from this restaurant. But I must say that this restaurant will wear the crown for the restaurant with the best vibe that I have ever been to.

This restaurant had all the things going right in my mind from the word go. The place had a very hip and rustic feel to it and I think its a warehouse converted to a restaurant. Whoever has designed the interiors has done an awesome job. Coming to the ambience, the place was so happening and we were greated by a bunch of young waiters who escorted us to our seat on the floor above and as we passed by the tables, we knew that everyone just came here to chill and basically have a fab time. Remixed music from yesteryears added to the vibrant mood of the place. One more thing to note was that everyone who served us while we were seated at our table looked so happy to be working there which added to the charm. I really couldnt tell between who was an attendant and who was a customer.

Coming to the food, we were there early evening so we ordered pav bhaji n chicken rolls. Good portions and great in taste, bhaji in the pav bhaji was not ditto to the authentic taste you get in India but was nevertheless flavorful. Chicken rolls were tasty and filling.

All in all it was a great experience and I was joking to my hubby as we left that we need to get hold of the owners and suggest to them to start a franchise in Dubai, thats where we come from. Will work great there.

I went to dishoom in a hope to taste authentic Indian food and I was more than satisfied. The food was delicious and reminded me of Indian restaurants. Besides that the decor was like an old Indian cafe which made me nostalgic.
The chai was served in Indian style glasses which delighted me. Would recommend if you want to taste authentic Indian food.

Last night, I realised that in my first year and a half living in London, I have committed one atrocious crime: I did not go to Dishoom earlier. Dishoom – or the Bombay Cafe as they describe themselves – is like an interior designer’s dream which serves incredible food. I’d seen a picture or two of their restaurants in London magazines, but I think what first hooked me was this description they have on their website:

Dishoom is one of my favourite restaurants in London. I just enjoy the ambience, the food is done right (less spicy thank you very much) and the staff has always been friendly and inviting.

This time I tried my go to dishes (Berry pulao, keema pau, black daal & vada pau - all superb dishes and must haves) but we ventured out and ordered the rajma chawal (very good), chicken tikka (superb), chicken tikka gravy (good) and raita (not bad). I was not disappointed.

I also tried the Paan Sour which was an interesting liquor combination. We also ordered the Bollini and the Gimlet which were quite well made.

For desert I tried the Kala khatta which is a childhood memory for me and I am happy to say that even though visually it looked different it tasted very good.

Basically I don't think Dishoom can do any wrong. Just go and enjoy the experience of a Parsi café from Bombay magically sent over to London.

We had a really nice sunday brunch at Dishoom, but I was glad we booked- it was packed! The decor and atmospheric touches around the place such as incense and authentic posters added to the food and service, which were both top notch. My chicken tikka was very tender and well spiced and the paneer and mango salad, despite a meagre portion, was very tasty. The overall bill for two with drinks was just over 40, which i thought was good value. I'd happily go back but definitely wouldn't queue!! On another more recent visit, with similar orders, the service was way off and the food suffered greatly as a result mostly in terms of temperature . It seems to sometimes be oversized and understaffed on occasion

I'm a big fan of Dishoom. The menu, the vibe, the service all get a big thumb's up from me. This King's Cross branch is huge, yet despite its size you don't feel neglected. The mattar paneer was delicious, as was the murgh malai, the naans were great, the lamb and the chicken biryanis were fab, the black house daal was just a little too heavy for my liking, you can really feel the fat in your mouth, also the bhel felt a little pointless.

Well, what a pleasant way to be manouved from the street queue with a glass of sherry, reception, bench waiting seat, bar, first floor dining area, no table, casual seating, second floor dining area. Directed by smiling, informative, guys and girls. Slight crack up with the seating timing although pleasantly compensated with a bottle of wine and some small plate starters. The bar is a little too dimly lit to read the drinks menu but good atmosphere and very busy. Lots of staff to deal with your wishes. The waitress explained the dinner menu very well, the food fabulous. Again the lighting a little dim, a suggestion for the management to supply small led torch 🔦 for those with reading problem or print the menu in a different colour. You are unable to book a table after 6.30pm unless you are a party of 6. Get your friends around, it is well worth a visit.

The mention of Indian usually conjures up thoughts of a curry of choice, naan and rice; that is a pretty standard Indian takeaway dinner and there are no shortage of places ready and willing to provide it. But the Indian cuisine is so much more than that (embarrassingly so) and it doesn't take much to discover that the humble curry, no matter how delicious, is merely an introduction of better things to come; and few showcase this better than the folk at Dishoom.

With decor paying homage to the old Irani cafes of Bombay, Dishoom has made refined Indian food popular so much so that they have now expanded to three branches dotted around London (with restaurants in Shoreditch and Kings Cross joining the original in Convent Garden). This visit brought me to their newest location in Kings Cross which was open in early 2015 and located within a restored Victorian railway transit shed in the newly restored Granary Square.

The location may have changed by Dishoom Kings Cross has retained so much of what made the original Dishoom great as features such as reminders of India of old adjourning the walls and hypnotising tile flooring leave you mesmerised but of course, and most importantly, the quality of food has remained high.

We started with the Dishoom calamari which is practically a given each time we come. Lightly battered then coated in a fragrant mix of spices, it made for a perfect start to the mains of spicy lamb chops, kacchi lamb biryani, gunpowder potatoes and the house black daal.
Mains were a delight with flavours that sent your head spinning. Each dish was great in their own right but I have to make a special mention for the spicy lamb chops which are just something else; marinated overnight in Dishoom's house recipe because being grilled over charcoal, it was flavour to the highest extreme and so juicy it almost required a bib to eat. A dish not to be missed among a menu of many.

If you love Indian food, Dishoom is an absolute must. Its popularity is certainly telling and it's not uncommon to have to wait for a table but if you do, it is worth your time.

Dishoom is one of my favourite restaurants in London at the moment and I'm here once a month at least. It's not only the good, authentic Indian food that brings me back but the amazing interiors and colonial Bombay vibes. I love that someone finally got the gist of regular Indian food and how much it has modernised. Unlike most other Indian restaurants in London, this doesn't just serve the regular North Indian shaadi food that everyone identifies as Indian. Try the Nalli Nihari, it's great. The Kheema Pau, The Crispy Calamari, The Spicy Lamb Chops, The Vada Pau & the Lamb Biriyani with the raita. Love it.

The Kings Cross restaurant is the newest of the Dishoom mini London empire. Opened last November it occupies a large Victorian warehouse spread over three floors. It is styled with a throwback to Bombay complete with a huge railway style clock. Each Dishoom site has a special and for Kings Cross it’s the Nalli Nihari - described as a robust lamb-on-the-bone stew with generous spice, for strength and protection against faintness of heart. Served with sesame onion seed naan and added bheja (lamb brain) this was certainly packed full of flavour and is probably my favourite curry to date.

For those of you not familiar with Dishoom, it's a restaurant styled in homage to the Irani street food cafés which make up Bombay. I've been to Dishoom for dinner, which is great. but for the purpose of this review - let's talk breakfast!

There's three across London (Covent Garden, Shoreditch and Kings X), I went to the one in Kings Cross branch. The building itself is beautiful and one of the largest in London. In what used to be a transit shed, the restaurant has been built to include cobble floor from the original stables with exposed wrought iron beams and high ceilings. Black and white photos and memorabilia adorn the walls much the style of its now trademark style.

The breakfast food is outrageously good but there was only ever one dish for me - the bacon naan roll. I'd heard great things about it and it did not disappoint! The bacon was spot on for me - I like my bacon erring on the rubbery side but with a slight crisp - and the naan was soft, fluffy yet slightly charred. All this coupled with the sweet and tangy chilli jam made me one very happy customer! Other dishes on the menu include akuri - spicy scrambled eggs and kerjriwal - fried eggs on chilli toast. Both, i'm told, are delicious but nothing comes close to that bacon naan!

It wasn’t any of the 159 Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK that ranked top of readers’ favourite eats, it was an unassuming chain called Dishoom. Styled after Iranian-style cafes in Mumbai, now with 3 branches in London, this is one of those places you can always rely upon. And more importantly, somewhere you can all agree on when you’re trying to find a spot to go with friends.

First impressions as we walked through the door 'epic'. The multilevel warehouse setting complete with fans and incense sticks burning definitely has an impact. The three of us had a 1.5 hour wait... So we were lead to the downstairs bar, darkly lit and cosy we each ordered a cocktail and far far. Shortly after finishing my Chaijito, I was told our table was ready... The wait seemed only 30-40 minutes.
Seated, we were greeted by our lovely wait person who gave us the low-down on the menu. With my vegetarian friend pleased with the menu we ordered veg biryani mattar panneer, garlic naan and of course the Okra fries... Oh an the two carnivores opted for the lamb shank curry.
Our 2nd round of drinks arrived with our serve of Okra, they were great however seemed a little thin cut so we're mostly batter. Our mains arrived shortly after served in traditional pots. Everything tasted great, the lamb shank was giant, naan soft with a slight chewy texture. Everything tasted fresh, handmade with just the right amount of spice.
Hats off to Dishoom for providing not just a great meal but a dining Experience!

Worth the wait! There's no questioning why the queues are as long as they are with fantastic service and amazing food to match. The cocktails are sublime with the subtle flavours of the East giving a nod to the food and heritage of the menu. The food portions are well proportioned so best to order just a few dishes first and then reorder if required. The team were really helpful with our food and wine selection. I recommend finishing off with an Indian whiskey cocktail!

The Kings Cross venue is their newest (Opened in Nov 2014) and it’s huge! Far bigger than their original Covent Garden outpost and their Shoreditch spot, this is cavernous.

In the evenings, it becomes one of those pesky no-reservation places, but for lunch you can still reserve. Request one of the booths on the side, far more space to spread out with all the food that you’ll inevitably end up ordering. The menu is sharing style, which is great. You can all choose a few options and subtly ignore the ones you don’t love, because someone else will definitely lap it up.

The vegetarian and the gluten-free among us were in heaven – the menu very clearly points out which dishes are vegetarian, but there’s a separate menu for the gluten free too, indicating which dishes they can safely order – and there are a lot to choose from. As is regular in a sharing sort of place, we vastly over-order and a stream of food arrives.

I’ve long talked about my love of Indian junk food and so Bhel is a natural starter. The okra fries easily count towards your five-a-day and the paneer tikka is moreishly rich. I’m more of a fan of the small plates than I am of the main curries and naans and things, so I filled up on these and left the others to the bigger stuff.

There really is something for everyone.

Unless you’ve been living under a large rock, you would have heard all of the positive feedback from Dishoom attendees. Down to their success, they’ve recently opened up a branch in Kings Cross – which happened to be the one that I stumbled upon.

Never in my life has spontaneous wondering around resulted in such a win for me, as finding this place. For those of you that don’t know, it’s as far from your local Indian as we are from the moon. It prides itself as being a Bombay Cafe – in other words, it’s a form of Indian tapas.

The menu is pretty bewildering if you haven’t been there before, but fear not the staff are super helpful in breaking it down. You essentially grab a small plate each (almost a starter), a main dish such as a curry or grill, and sides like rice or naans.

Here is what we opted for:

Far Far: A sort of carnival of snackery, halfway between crisp and cracker. Colourful, lemony, salty.

Pau Bhaji: A bowl of mashed vegetables with hot buttered pau bun, Chowpatty Beach style. No food is more Bombay.

Keema Pau: A classic of Irani Cafés: spiced minced lamb and peas with a toasted, buttered pau bun.

Dishoom Chicken Tikka: A family recipe, using a marinade of sweet vinegar, not yoghurt. Laced with ginger juice, turmeric, garlic and green chilli.

Kacchi Lamb: Marinated lamb and rice cooked together in the traditional Hyderabadi style.

Garlic Naan: With minced garlic and coriander sprinkle.

Roomali Roti: Soft handkerchief-thin bread, thrown, stretched and griddled to order on an upturned tawa.

Raita: Delicate minty yoghurt, cool as the cucumber.

It looks like a lot of food, which it was, but it was just right. Our waiter was telling us about balancing out the food groups with vegetable and meat, and making sure we had something with a little sauce – which is where the Raita came in. Seriously Dishoom, your staff are great!

The Far Far was similar to papadums, but it was like the Indian version of quavers. Multi-coloured tubes of wonderful wonderful treats. This goes perfect with the dips they bring along – get this involved with the mint.

The Pau Bhaji was the winner – you MUST get this. It looks super unappetising, almost like baby’s food, but the taste is amazing. It has a slight spicy kick, you can taste the tomato coming through, with the bitter taste of the onions. Pair this with the warm rolls and you’ll be wiping the bowl clean of sauce. Not that we did that…

Keema Pau – I said that this was a Shepard’s pie, without all the mash. Consisting of lean lamb mince with onions in a spicy gravyish sauce, it was flavoursome with a hell of a spicy kick! But, it was served at the same time as the Pau Bhaji, so unfortunately that stole the limelight.

Dishoom Chicken Tikka is apparently the spiciest thing on the menu, which I felt wasn’t true…it was spicy though, don’t get me wrong. Beautifully cooked, super tender, with just a cheeky bit of spice. When I squeezed some lime over the top it made the flavours come alive. Corrr, you can never go wrong with a Chicken Tikka. Ever.

The Kacchi Lamb was their take on a biryani, it still had the dough seal on the bowl when it was brought over, the only evidence of it’s hours worth of tender cooking. The lamb was at the bottom of the bowl and the rice was over top – it was seasoned to absolute perfection, but be warned this stuff is waaaaaaaay spicy. Thank the waiting staff for telling us to order Raita to call it down.

The garlic naan was generously lavished with garlic, and had melted butter on it. Perfection for dipping it in, well everything. The roti was amazingly well cooked and was perfect for making little chicken tikka parcels, or making a burrito with the contents of the biryani. The raita was refreshing and added an extra layer of depth, and much needed cooling, to our meal.

Great location by King’s Cross canal, helpful staff, heart-warming dishes, and fascinating interiors makes this place a win for me.

Some of the best food I have eaten in India was in Mumbai, so when friends had suggested Dishoom, I had wondered if it could really deliver an experience that did not serve up 'English Indian'. It was with nervous excitement that I went there with a group of friends who had already experienced the wonder that is Dishoom food. I have since been back and will go anytime I want to take a culinary trip to my favourite parts of India. Staff are amazing, space is amazing, cocktails are amazing, food is amazing. Go there, eat the black dahl, chefs special (any of them), okra fries and a mango popsicle for dessert and be amazed yourself. And bring as many gluten free friends you want - they can eat almost all of the menu, and definitely all of the good bits!

We went there on a Friday night, and got seats luckily .
One of the most amazing places I've seen in entire London . The interior reminds of the Bombay matinee movies which was quite fascinating . They have a huge bar and juice sections which was quite appealing .

Talking about food , the dal has that authentic Indian flavor which I was craving for since the time I came to London . The paneer tikka was decent too .
I would say, a bit overpriced , but it's worth it for the quality and taste they're offering.

Excellent! Arrived here about 6.30 on a Friday and was told there would be an hour and a half wait (no bookings in the evening for tables less than 6)! We couldn't even get in to the bar for a drink. Fortunately, after 15 mins, we were offered a seat at the bar where we could eat too. The food is 'tapas-style' Indian dishes and we had 6 between 2. The lamb samosas were probably my least favourite dish but all of the 5 other dishes were incredibly tasty. I'd highly recommend going and even sitting through the long wait, if necessary.

So we went on a Friday evening to the King's Cross one, which meant that for dinner, we had to enter the restaurant by 5:45 pm. Even though we had called ahead and had 'reserved' a table, we were met by an usher who put us at the end of a queue. After a relatively short wait, we were allowed inside because we had a 'reservation'.

The decor of the restaurant is reminiscent of the bygone Raj. Given the music and the number of people in the place, it can be a little noisy.

Now for the food - I had a mango and fennel lassi, while a couple of my mates had Kingfisher beer. The lassi was OK, I would have preferred a bit more of the mango flavour in it. For the price too, I was expecting a bit more in quantity. For our first course, we ordered the calamari and the Koliwada prawns. The calamari was soft and sweet - pretty OK. The prawns on the other hand was very good - not overly spicy - just right for me and definitely worth ordering. We also had a portion of the lamb boti kebab. This too was a good dish.

For our mains, we went for spicy lamb chops, gunpowder potatoes, house black daal paired with roomali roti, cheesy naan and kacchi lamb biriyani. The spicy lamb chops were outstanding, but the best item undoubtedly was the house black daal. The flavours of the daal along with the naan/roti instantly reminded me of a favourite place back home. You can give the gunpowder potatoes a complete miss. The worst item of the meal was the lamb biriyani. The rice had no flavour and the lamb pieces were hard and tasteless.

I finished it off with a Kala Khatta Gola. While not the authentic thing, it was good and refreshing.

Now for a large restaurant, a bare minimum I expect is clarity about ordering and billing. This seems to be quite badly set-up. The person taking our order seemed very eager to put down double the quantity for items we ordered. Our mains arrived with an extra plate of fish kebabs when we had not ordered it. Upon telling the staff, they went back to check on the order terminal before removing it from our table. Again, we had initially ordered plain naan in place of the roomali roti - but changed it early enough. Later on I found that we had been charged for the plain naan and the roti even though the naans had not arrived at our table. I had ordered 1 Kala Khatta Gola and 2 arrived at our table. They very graciously did not charge us for the second Kala Khatta. I would advice you to be very clear and specific with your order and check your bill before paying.

Overall, I would definitely go back for the prawns, the lamb chops and the house black daal (maybe just for this alone). The service is good and attentive except for the constant mix-up with the orders.

As I approached Dishoom along the achingly cool Granary Square, with it's neon-lit choreographed fountains and past the trendy young-uns congregated on the canalside steps, my heart sank as I spied the 100m queue outside Dishoom. Luckily for me I was running late and my friends were already near the entrance! Still, we had a further 15 minutes or so to wait, during which we were served an amazing hot chai (I wasn't tempted by the sherry option), which was warming, comforting and satisfyingly spicy. Not my usual cuppa tea (geddit?) but just the job when waiting in the freezing cold. Dishoom has got to be worth the wait. Inside, we were given a seat near the entrance, to wait for our space at the bar. Had we been drinking the entire time we were kept waiting, we would have been on the floor by now! The staff were actually amazing, each person had a specific role and knew our names and even as we moved between waiting areas, kept up with our orders. The entrance was a hive of activity, with a central bar, not one we could order a drink at, I don't think, but it was all a-hub with busy bar-peeps making up cocktails. The whole area was a modernized industrial warehouse space, apparently formerly a railway transit shed, for interchange of goods between rail, road and canal. In Bombay it would have been know as a Godown.  It wasn't long before we were led downstairs to the Permit Room. Finally a permit to get a drink. We were expecting to be waiting another half hour for a table, so we ordered a round of cocktails, firstly a flute of Bollybellini, a sparkling cocktail with raspberries, lychee and rose, with a hint of cardamom. Next, an Edwina's Affair, pun-tastically, a threeway of gin, rose and cardamom, with fresh mint and candied rose petals. A taster of the Indian flavours to come. By then we were on the floor, with hunger, so we ordered a Far Far, a half crisp, half cracker, mistaking it for dried banana. It was delicious. Dipped in the accompanying mint sauce, onion

I’m definitely not a morning person, but when I heard that the newly-opened Dishoom at King’s Cross was offering a 50% discount off all meals, I knew I had to seize the opportunity and finally try out their highly-lauded breakfasts. After all, who doesn’t love a good deal? :) I’ve visited once more since the deal, and can definitely say that it’s worth a visit even if you have to pay full price. Dishoom is a well-known Bombay-style cafe in London, with other branches in Covent Garden and Shoreditch. I’ve yet to pay a visit to the other two locations, but the Kings Cross branch looked absolutely amazing the moment I walked in- think colonial-style vintage decor, mixed with a warehouse-like feel. Because everything was 50% off, my friend and I went a little crazy and ordered 4 breakfasts between us- not pictured is the  sausage naan roll  which we had to end up taking home because we were so stuffed! Oops. (It was delicious though, even after reheating it a day later.) We started off our meal with some juices- my friend went for the cucumber, celery, watermelon rind, spinach, apple and ginger green juice, whilst I opted for watermelon and apple . Whilst the juices were delicious and fresh I don’t think I would pay full price for them as they were a little bit on the small side- I’d rather go for their delicious mango lassi or house chai instead! We then had a  kejriwal-  two fried eggs atop chilli cheese toast. I’m a massive fan of runny fried eggs and cheese, and this dish definitely didn’t disappoint. I especially enjoyed the slow burning sensation of the chilli in the toast, which went really well with the egg yolk and some ketchup. Knowing

Dipped in the accompanying mint sauce, onion salad, not a patch on the regular curry-house dips.

Back up to ground floor level (high ceilings certainly don't cover it), walking on glass covering up mechanical stuff that looks so cool, but who knows what it was for, and following the trail of joss sticks, our table amongst the high-seated trendy crowd was what I would call cosy. It wasn't uncomfortable, but once seated, it felt unlikely I would be getting off that stool again for a while!

Water in silver glasses, our Edwina's followed us up, and the menu was explained as a sharing menu. 'We don't do starters', she said, 'we just share the small plates.' Well, yes...

Between four of us, we ordered four small plates. Again, your typical curry-house menu, it ain't. Mixed in with some familiar-sounding dishes were many tantalising British-with-a-twist options. Vegetable Samoans, Okra Fries, Dishoom Calamari, and the one in the box, Pau Bhaji, a mishmash of vegetables, made into an amazing sauce served with hot buttered Pau bun. No food is more Bombay, it says. I want to go and live there.

We were given ample time to finish our (non) starters, and then choose from one curry (well, two, if you count the veggie one) and the grills. I do love a pun, so the Ruby Chicken was a must (Cockney, innit), as well as a paneer version. Along with this, we also chose the Lamb Boti Kebab, Mahi Tikka (any fish will do) and the signature Black House Daal. A rice, a nana, a bowl of greens and a roti, and we couldn't ask for more.

We dipped and dived into each dish, enjoying the British Raj feel to the occasion, deviating completely from the Indian food I know and love. All the flavours were still there, subtle, none too spicy and the portion size was perfect. The only teensy criticism I would have is the lack of chilli, but that may be just me. Staff really knew what they were doing, and we never once felt intruded up, nor rushed or kept waiting.

Despite being totally full, we had a look at the dessert menu. Although the Guju Chocolate Mousse was tempting, we were instead intrigued by the Kala Khatta Gola Ice.

'Fluffy ice flakes steeped in kokum fruit syrup, blueberries, chilli, lime, white and black salt. The first spoonful tastes bizarre. The second spoonful is captivating.'

Hilariously this was very true. It tasted like ice with spice. The first mouthful was bizarre. Two out of four stopped there. The second mouthful was strangely captivating and drew several more. But it wouldn't be something I'd choose again. But I'm glad I tried it.

Overall, Dishoom really was amazing. Queuing aside, I would definitely go back, and I expect I would bring people here if I needed to impress them.

And pretty good value for money, making the whole experience a real treat.

It's like a festival of spices in your moth, not overpowering, in-your-face spicy but rather a delicate balance of it all. Order the bowl of greens - trust me, I had never had such exciting greens. They're beautifully spiced. Also, forget your usual chewy supermarket paneer, the one they have there is soft and tender and just lovely. They serve them grilled along with bell peppers that are par cooked so that they're still crunchy yet charred around the edges.

Very nice place to go eat some good Indian food. The prices are decent and the portions are ok; but the flavor of the food is just dead on perfect. My only tiff being the availability of vegetarian main course curry's. My favorite was the Thums Up float by far the best soda I've had.

A few years ago if diners wanted some authentic Indian house chai coupled with Pau Bhaji reminiscent of Chowpatty Beach then there was only one place to go: Dishoom in Covent Garden.

However, after years of braving the tourists dwelling by Leicester Square Station and waiting in line for a table inside what had become a coveted dining location, Dishoom multiplied, not once but twice over opening restaurants in Shoreditch and then King’s Cross. Yet significantly Dishoom didn’t duplicate in a chain restaurant fashion, instead they grew with style and added a distinctive edge to each of their locations.

Dishoom King's Cross opened in late 2014 with much hype and publicity resulting in queues snaking round the entire restaurant and waiting times running into hours.

This restaurant itself is located in a handsomely restored Victorian former railway transit shed constructed in 1850, adding a touch of the colonial and industrial. As a result this is a large space made up of 9000 square foot spread over three floors, and they all still seem to reach capacity every evening.

The decor in this restaurant is nostalgic but also romantic restaurant littered with lamps, tiling, artwork and dark wood. Additionally the ground floor houses an elegant but trendy cocktail bar which effortlessly recreates the feel of 1930s Bombay.

Would I Want Seconds?

I can never get enough of Dishoom because it serves some of my favourite type of food. As a result I seem to always end up over ordering and over eating.

I tried Dishoom King’s Cross for dinner where the table was brimming full of all the dishes we had ordered. This included vegetable samosas which arrived in a portion of three and were cooked using a fine filo pastry and filled with peas and potato spiced with cinnamon and cloves.

We also tried the chilli cheese toast which was highly recommend as a Bombay standard and was composed of cheddar cheese melted onto white bloomer bread, with chillies added on top.

Next came the vada pau, described as Bombay’s version of the chip butty this dish was essentially a vada (fried vegetable ball) in a buttered pau bun with a sprinkle of ghati masala.

My favourite dish out of these and one which I could not wait was the pau bhaji. The menu is right when it describes this dish as ‘Chowpatty Beach style’ as I remember trying pau bhaji just as good on the beaches of Mumbai. Served as a bowl of mashed and thoroughly spiced vegetables with an immensely large portion of butter for its silky texture, this concoction is delectable when eaten scooped on top of hot buttered pau bun. This is one dish where it is very hard not to order seconds.

To top it all off we also ordered the paneer roll which was composed of the famous Dishoom ‘Roomali Roti’, a delicate handkerchief bread wrapped around green leaves, grilled Indian cheese and mint chutney. We also tried the paneer tikka which did not include any curry sauce but had marinated then chargrilled with red and green capsicums and paneer.

As always we were substantially full by the end of this banquet at Dishoom King’s Cross and immensely pleased with the quality and quantity of the food.

I have also been impressed by the starters at Dishoom which are a delicious bargain at between £2.50 to £5. Main courses cost about £7 to £10 are arrive in substantial portions. The most expensive options include the masala prawns at £11.20 and the Kacchi lamb served with rice and cooked Hyderabadi style at £9.50, yet I know many restaurants which would serve much more than this for a similar dish.

Overall:

Dishoom is one of my favourite restaurants in London and I’m sure many Londoners would agree.

The King’s Cross branch has a darker, edgier feel to it compared to the bright and cosy Shoreditch restaurant. The service at both is friendly and alert leaving very little to choose between the two as the menus are mirrored across both branches.

I would always recommend Dishoom for its décor, food and price and so I have to give both these restaurants top marks.

I've wanted to visit Dishoom for a long time but have always been put off by the long queues so the bf & I decided to go for an early lunch (12pm) to avoid the crowd. We were not disappointed.

CHICKEN RUBY is the one!!! Hands down one of the best curry I've ever tasted. The spice was mild but the creaminess of curry combined with warm garlic bread was just gorgeous. I also recommend the calamari. The restaurant itself is spacious and stunning! The only disappointment was the prawn & pomelo salad which was too tangy for my tastebuds (to be fair the waiter didn't promote it as a must-have dish).

I look forward to returning (fingers crossed no queues)!

The Vibe

Modelled on traditional Bombay Cafes opened in the early 20th Century by Iranian immigrants to India, Dishoom has captured their joie de vivre spirit beautifully. The Kings Cross restaurant is housed within a handsomely restored Victorian former railway transit shed constructed in 1850. Its setting next to the canal, once functional due to it having been a warehouse for import and export, adds to its charm and the interior is a mix of colonial and industrial, with a very beautiful countenance. The lamps, tiling, nostalgic artwork and the dark wood add exotic allure. Dishoom is a frenetic and romantic place just like turn of the century Bombay herself and a great place to spend a few hours.

The Order

There is a wonderful range of mouth-watering treats for you to try here; just pace yourself depending on the game plan. The Chai is recommended and comes in proper Chai glasses; you could treat yourselves and start with a Naughty Chocolate Chai (served with a shot of Bourbon). Gorgeously layered, and in some cases, heaped with spices and flavours, the menu is intoxicating – Chilli Cheese Toast is fun to start, Spicy Lamb Chops and Mahi Tikka are jumping off the plate with flavour and definitely have a go on the rich House Black Daal, lovingly simmered for 24 hours for depth. Sides are fresh and delicious and the rice and naans are banging, obviously.

The Game

Make sure you pre-book a table and meet at Granary Square; anything beats a rendez-vous at Kings Cross station. Greet each other a la Française with a kiss on each cheek next to one of the prettily lit fountains. Allow yourself to get swept away by the fans turning overhead and the sense of an impending adventure as you walk through the door and start as you mean to go on with a cocktail such as the Bollybellini (raspberries, lychees, rose, cardamom topped with Prosecco) for ladies or an East India Gimlet (Portobello Road gin, Rose’s lime, celery bitters) for gents. Lunchtime sees a suited and booted crowd from the office blocks nearby so perhaps try an early evening meal or a late afternoon drink to really soak in the atmosphere of the Café. If you fancy carrying on the evening, try Simmons on Caledonian Road for old skool décor, fun drinks and cheesy 80’s tunes or The Fellow on York Way for more sophisticated supping.

A lazy, boozy breakfast date would also work very well here followed by a trip to the House of Illustration gallery a few yards away. The bacon naan roll is legendary.

The Faults

The area isn’t ideal but it’s starting to take a new shape and if this new opening is anything to go by, we should all watch this space carefully.

Sex Factor

4. It has the feel of an elegant old train station – it’s very Brief Encounter.

I don't really know how to say this but, well, I thought Dishoom was... just... okay... I know, what is wrong with me? Wasn't I supposed to absolutely fall in love with it? I mean, I liked it, but that's as far as it went. If it were a beau, I'd probably go on a second date, but I'm not sitting by the phone on edge, waiting for it to ring.

Dishoom has been on my list for a long, long time. So long in fact, that in that time they have opened a third branch in King's Cross. I assumed, for the sake of speedy seating, that the best option would be to go to one of their more established branches to avoid any queues. But on twitter they assured me that their new branch had been pretty quiet since the 50% soft launch opening. And they were right. When we got there at six we were shown to a table straight away, and although the place did fill out a bit while we were there, there was no sign of any hour-and-a-half waits. (That's how long we were told we'd have to wait when we tried to get into the one in Shoreditch once.)

Dishoom sits comfortably between high-end Indian and eat-at-2-am curry. And the prices somewhat reflect that, although the portions are on the diminutive side, meaning it's not quite as good value for money as it would at first appear.

Trying to be reasonably healthy and not spend too much, Stephen and I just got one small plate, one grill and one main between us, as well as the requisite sides of a nan (garlic) and rice (they offer only one type – steamed basmati).

We ordered the okra small plate as our nibbles, which was as good move as we needed something to dip in the chutneys and dips that we were given for the table. These were delicious and it would have been nice to have some complimentary poppadoms to make the most of them. One was minty and cool, one was basically just chilli, so rather fiery, and the tamarind sauce was also surprisingly spicy.

Our lady fingers were great - most likely coated in something and lightly fried, they were a more than acceptable alternative to a bowl of chips. I easily could have eaten a portion on my own.

For the main event we ordered the plainspoken ‘chicken ruby’ and the lamb boti kabab. The ruby murray came in a thick, tomatoey sauce which was a little too tomatoey and sweet, not quite enough spice for the both of us. Perfectly nice to eat but didn’t make me swoon, and I was very much expecting to. We much preferred the chunks of lamb that had been marinated in red chili, garlic and ginger, although they seemed to get cold quite quickly.

To drink I had an East India Gimlet which was so nice I had another one. A very light, but strong drink, the celery bitters tempering any sweetness from the lime cordial.

Unusually, we had a dessert at Dishoom - we split the pineapple and black pepper crumble with custard, which was a good note to end on. Warm pineapple is a wonderful taste and the custard and crumble made it suitable stodgy and indulgent.

In all it was a perfectly pleasant meal and I was only a bit disappointed because I'd had such high expectations. I’d be happy enough to return if someone suggested going (especially this branch - the setting is rather beautiful), but I’m not going to rush back.

"You are within a restored Victorian industrial building - a former railway transit shed, built in 1850. To Londoners this is a warehouse, but to Bombayites, it would be a Godown. Vast quantities of goods once flowed through this foremost interchange between rail, road and canal. Goods were unloaded onto the platform, and the draft horses that worked the canals and turntables were stabled beneath. For over 100 years this building passed goods to and fro between Britain and its Empire, and between London and Bombay".

Forget the British Empire, and make way for the Dishoom Empire. After great success in Covent Garden and Shoreditch, an enormous new Dishoom Bombay Café has appeared in King's Cross, making the most of a fantastic space round the corner from Grain Store.

"The original Bombay cafés have almost disappeared. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters."

Leyla (The Cutlery Chronicles) and I went along for an indulgent Monday lunch during the soft launch.

The grand dining room is slightly tucked away, so we instead settled in the well-lit café area at the front, with great views of the bar and their on-site sugarcane juicery. After pressing the canes, they serve the juice with lime and salt (and rum if you need a kick!) for £4 (or £8).

Soft drinks are well represented at Dishoom with Lassis, Floats & Sodas galore on the menu.

Enough about drinks (for the moment), here's what happened next...

To start:

- Keema Pau - spiced minced lamb and peas with a pau bun

- Pau Bhaji - mashed vegetables with a pau bun, "Chowpatty Beach style"

- Bhel - puffed rice, Bombay Mix, nylon sev, pomegranate, tomato, onion, lime, tamarind, mint

- Okra Fries - self explanatory!

The Keema Pau was the standout dish of the whole meal, and pretty generous for £5.20. Dishoom wisely keep the prices low for dishes that don't cost them a great deal to create, and then bump up the fancier plates. Pau Bhaji was a little underwhelming, but the beautiful Bhel and moreish Okra Fries made up for it.

Next up:

- Paneer Tikka - marinated & gently charred cheese with red & green capiscums

- Lamb Boti Kabab - marinated with red chilli, garlic and ginger, "Bademiya-style classic"

- House Black Daal - "simmered over 24 hours for extra harmony"

- Roomali Roti - "soft bread, thrown, stretched and griddled to order on an upturned tawa"

We stuck to the grills at lunch alongside an essential bowl of Black Daal and some Roomali Roti which should be eaten swiftly before it loses its heat and structure. Both the Lamb Boti Kabab and the Paneer Tikka were enjoyable, but not to the extent that I would rush to order them again. There's plenty else to explore on the menu anyway.

An evening meal might have steered us towards the Biryanis, Ruby Murrays or perhaps even the Nalli Nihari special (only at King's Cross) described below:

Nalli Nihari - "a robust lamb-on-the-bone stew with generous spice, for strength and protection against faintness of heart. First relished by Nawabs who then employed its fortifying properties to fuel their labourers. Served with sesame-onion-seed naan" - £17

Add Bheja (Lamb Brain) for more taste and more power - £21

At this point we had a quick break for a Chaijito - Smoky rum, Dishoom sweet-spice chai syrup, muddled with fresh mint, coriander, ginger and lime. Other cocktails available at the main bar include the East India Gimlet (Gin, Lime Cordial, Celery Bitters) and the Bombay Colada (Pineapple, Coconut, Coriander, Chai Syrup, Lime, Rum).

Beer fans might want to try the Dishoom IPA produced specially by London Fields Brewery. More of the core beers are available on request.

But if you really want some serious booze, then you need to head downstairs to The Permit Room for bottle / cask aged cocktails, served by the peg. You can opt for Chota Peg (100ml) or Burra Peg (200ml) serves of various pre-made concoctions such as Sir Jeejeebhoy, Sonia's Negroni and Tanchoi Fix that all have a Dishoom twist along the way.

There are more standard Juleps, Smashes, Sours, Fizzes, Martinis to enjoy too in the stunning basement bar which hopefully will be a successful standalone venue.

Back to food, we finished off with a couple of desserts and some House Chai:

- Guju Chocolate Mousse - with chilli and salt, and Gujarati shrikhand fruited yoghurt & blackberries - £5.20

- Pineapple & Black Pepper Crumble - with Kerlan vanilla and custard on the side - £5.20

These were both outstanding and again excellent value for the quality and quantity. Memsahib's Mess also sounds fun, and there are plenty of Kulfis to choose from if you prefer.

I enjoyed the House Chai, but Leyla was hoping for something a little thicker. You can indulge with Chocolate, Naughty Chocolate (Bourbon), or Baileys Chai twists, or restrain in style with Darjeeling & Assam tea or Monsooned Malabar Coffee.

Whilst every dish didn't live up to high expectations, there was plenty to enjoy at Dishoom, and the King's Cross branch is a sight to behold. There's so much to explore with the sugar cane juicery, basement bar, chef's table, dining room and café that you may well end up spending the whole day there, and with Dishoom's pleasant pricing, you might leave with a bit of change in your pocket too!

Dishoom King's Cross is the third Dishoom cafe to open after successes in Covent Garden and Shoreditch. Inspired by the old-school Bombay cafes open from morning to night. Dishoom had been on my radar for a while but every time going past Covent Garden, there's always a long queue driving me away to eat somewhere else. When Mr T saw the queue at King's Cross, he already wanted to turn around and eat else where. Luckily we only waited for like 10-15 minutes.

I didn't actually wanted to order the Far Far, I only asked the waiter what it was and he presumably thought I wanted it which was the first item that was served. It's sort of between a cracker and a crisp but bland. Okra Fries will turn your hatred of okra to a lover of okra. Many people dislike the slimy texture of okra, in the case of Dishoom; it's sliced lengthwise, lightly spiced and fried they taste fantastic. More places needs to serve okra fries, I want it! The lamb samosas are not the typical Punjabi shortcrust style, made in Gujarati style so thinner filo pastry tasting lighter. The calamari, tiny tender squid covered in crumbs and a drizzle of sweetness, a bit strange at first as we were used to eating salty calamari but nevertheless it was tasty.

The lamb chops coated in a marinade of lime juice and jaggery, warm dark spices, ginger and garlic is finger licking good. It was moist, tender, juicy and spicy. I'm trying to find a recipe to recreate it at home, unfortunately I don't have a tandoori oven to recreate the same charred effect on the meat. The mahi tikka, Asian basa fillet in a subtle yoghurt marinade. The fish is moist but just need a bit more seasoning/spicing, well Mr T liked it. Accompanied by a garlic naan, irresistible to stop eating when served fresh and hot. For drinks, we had a pot of green Darjeeling and a pot of English breakfast Assam. Hard to resist ordering tea when both me and Mr T are tea drinkers. It wasn't the best tea on offer.

Dishoom is different to your normal Indian restaurant, you won't find tikka masala or chicken korma. I wish I could have tried many more dishes, I am definitely up for a Bombay style brunch next time on the condition that I can wake up early.

The Halal: There are now three branches of Dishoom and all of them serve halal chicken and lamb. There is no pork on the a la carte menu (though they do a bacon naan roll for breakfast). Alcohol is served on the premises.

The Place: Nuzzled next door to the Grain store in trendy Granary square is the the newest addition to the Dishoom family. In fact it’s so new, it hasn’t even made it onto their website yet! The backstory is that of a young Iranian immigrant arriving in Bombay with next-to-nothing. He’s an opportunist and with a bit of luck he opens a small cafe behind the Victoria terminus rail station which prospers from the loyalty of its patrons.

Dishoom KX opened last week and the soft launch went incredibly well. Hoards of hungry Londoners descended upon King’s Cross and waited patiently in long queues in order to be amongst the first foodies to trial the dishes. The space of the restaurant is incredible making it the largest branch yet. They have converted a huge transit shed, which they call a Godown (Indian word for warehouse). There are exposed brick walls, a grand central bar with bright underlighting, old photographs in sepia and a background score of old bollywood music. In the basement is another bar called the “Permit room” which is styled like a ticketing office. The furniture has been meticulously selected to create the perfect ambience of vintage Bombay.

The Food: I visited Dishoom with two fellow food-bloggers whose company made the night an even more memorable and enjoyable experience. Whilst queuing to enter the restaurant, we were offered hot chai to warm us up in the cold. The hostesses were very polite and gave us regular updates about how long we would be waiting.

The menu remains largely the same as the other branches with a few special additions. The bars have increased their repertoire serving an increasing number of mocktails and cocktails, fresh juices such as sugarcane, orange and nimboo-paani (lemonade). My favourite Dishoom drink remains the Virgin Bombay Colada; a green coconut and coriander concoction with chai syrup, lime juice and a sprinkle of sugar-coated fennel seeds.

We were seated in the “Permit room” whilst waiting for a table to become free. Luckily we were able to order a few bar snacks here to have with our drinks. The okra fries are my favourite snack on the menu. They are finely sliced lady’s fingers coated in a spicy batter and fried to crispy deliciousness.

I didn’t try the Koliwada prawns but was told by my companions that these were yummy (but quite hot of the spice-o-meter!)

The samosas were crispy pastry triangles stuffed with lamb mince and bits of mint and onion. These were good but by no means novel or outstanding.

Once our table was ready, we were taken up to the dining area to continue our meal. It has to be said that despite the wait, Dishoom was very efficient with its customers. There were pagers to notify you that the table was ready and a computerised system to ensure that customers were seated in order of their arrival. The waiting staff were extremely polite and helpful. Our waitress took time to talk us through the menu and made some good recommendations.

We ordered the Murgh malai, grilled pieces of chicken thigh marinaded in garlic, ginger and cream and cooked slightly pink. The chicken was cooked well and seasoned delicately.

The chicken berry brittania biryani was a fragrant pot of chicken and rice, traditionally sealed with a pastry lid. I have a weakness for biryani and this one was particularly good. The berries burst in each rich mouthful.

The mattar paneer curry had a combination of flavours and textures. A hint of chilli from the masala, a deep creaminess from the tomato sauce, sweetness from the peas and softness from the little cubes of paneer cheese.

I’ve left the best till last.. Dishoom is upholding its tradition of having one different speciality dish at each restaurant. The Haleem in Covent Garden, the Lamb Raan in Shoreditch and the Nalli Nihari in Kings Cross. Nihari is a slow-cooked lamb stew which is normally eaten as a brunch item. The meat was tender and falling off the bone and the gravy was meaty and rich. The stew was served with onion-seed naan. Bheja (lamb brain) was an optional extra, which we weren’t daring enough to try!

The Price: During the soft launch, there was a 50% discount on all food and drink but normally a meal to share would come to around £30-35 per person.

The Verdict: I’ve loved Dishoom since I first visited the Covent Garden branch many years ago. The food is tasty and reasonably priced and the ambience is classically Bombay. It’s no wonder that each new branch of Dishoom has brought increasing popularity to their infamous brand.

Not so long ago, I talked about the delicious brunch we enjoyed at Dishoom in Covent Garden, and I mentioned that we definitely wanted to check out their lunch/dinner menu. Well, when word spread that they were opening a new branch near King's Cross, and that they were having a soft launch period with 50% off food & drink, I was all ears. And stomach.

In case you're so excited you can't even get through the entire post, the soft launch is until the 19th November - hence why I wanted to publish this post ASAP!

But let's rewind. This past Sunday I had some work to do in East London early afternoon, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity for E and I to make a pitstop at King's Cross afterwards - we got there around 5pm, but as you can't reserve tables during the soft launch period, it was a good time to go to avoid queues. This place is huge though, so it would have to be heaving to have long lines!

A converted Victorian warehouse, we both loved the setting, ambience and the music they were playing - the toilets are quite different and everything just feels old-fashioned & modern at the same time. I know, I make no sense.

Now, as they have literally just opened, the service and general running of the place have a few kinks to iron out - but they more than made it up for us. More on that later.

E started with a mango & fennel lassi which he loved, and I chose a Chajito, which was a twist on the classic Mojito and seriously good.

We went all out on the food - we had a bowl of Pau Bhaji (smashed vegetables) that comes with the most delectable buttered buns, the Murgh Malai (marinated and grilled chicken thigh) and Masala Prawns which were both amazing, and the House Black Daal which was so rich in flavour and perfectly spicy. Their Cheese Naan & Garlic Naan are both delicious - I am running out of adjectives to describe the food!

About the service - it was fairly slow. We got served the Pau Bhaji and Cheese Naan very quickly, and then had a long wait for the rest of the food, which we did have to ask after and there was some mix up in the kitchen. We weren't particularly in a rush so it didn't matter that much, but the couple next to us had to leave without having the dessert they ordered as it took too long.

But as I said, they did their best to make it up to us - we were surprised with two cocktails on the house (both were amazing!), as well as being treated to dessert (Cinnamon Ice Cream, which was good but nothing special), so I say we got a good deal! In any case, the soft launch discount obviously reflects the fact that all the staff are still learning the ropes, so we didn't mind very much.

If you're remotely interested in trying Dishoom and could do with a bonus 50% off the bill, head to their new branch now. I'm telling you, the food is fantastic and it's a great opportunity to try them if you haven't already, or go if you're already a fan.

You can see the menu and more information on Zomato.

This is my second time visiting here and I absolutely love this restaurant. The ambience is so nice and the food is fantastic. I only had breakfast there but it didn’t disappoint me for sure. On top of it the service there is top notch. Very attentive and friendly and helpful. I highly highly recommend to go there.

Of all the Dishoom locations in the city, this one is truly exceptional. The ambiance is remarkable and seamlessly merges with the consistently excellent food and service. Unique touches, like the original Thomas Crapper toilets, add to the authentic and distinctive atmosphere. Our servers for the evening, Jude and Luca, deserve a special mention. They expertly catered to our diverse group, accommodating a variety of tastes and preferences. During your visit, I highly recommend trying the Black Daal and Chicken Ruby – both dishes are truly delightful. The only downside is that the popularity of this branch often results in queues, so booking in advance is highly recommended to ensure a seamless dining experience.

One of my favorite Indian food in London. Have visited several times and it’s really a good place to go with friends or with someone visiting London. Always a long queue, we waited for about 1.5hr to get our table. (1hr waiting in the queue and 30mins at the bar, but they offer small glass of chai, tea, or alcohol for the queue which is nice.) The KX branch is big, 3 floors with many tables, it is a bit dark in the evening when dining. The roll is quite nice and portion is big; House Chaat and Chicken Ruby is delicious; Black Daal is perfect with naan or roti, or u can eat it alone, also not bad. I would say worth the wait, and will really want to go back for the breakfast with unlimited chai!

Ate here for the first time and it won’t be the last. The food was amazing and exceeded my expectations. I’ve heard lots of people talk about this establishment but I was very sceptical however I was not disappointed. Lots of dietary options. Good service but extremely busy. Make sure you make a reservation otherwise it’s a long wait outside.

Visited Dishoom for the first time this week and had a lovely experience, we were quickly seated and talked through the large menu by Hamza who was very helpful and friendly. Our starters and food came quite promptly and it did not disappoint, it was delicious and filling. I hope to visit again to try different dishes, and recommend anyone to give it a try.

Recommended by several friends, this is how an upscale Indian restaurant is done! Delicious foods and delicious prices and quite a variety too. I had the breakfast at this location and the granola and chocolate chai was just perfect. The chai has free refills too if one glass isn’t enough (hint, it might not be!)

Finally experienced Dishoom and I can say I was not disappointed at all! We booked this for my sister's birthday, she loved it. The restaurant was lovely and the ambience fit in with the theme of tthe cuisine. To top it off as we didn't order a dessert they took the cost of the birthday girl's drink off our bill. Will definitely be back!

This is such a great place to go for dinner! The food is phenomenal, the atmosphere is really unique, and the staff is very helpful. I highly recommend. Just be ready to wait in line, but it’s worth it!

Saying I love Dishoom food is an understatement.....its one of my fav places to visit. I have literally visited all the branches in London. This is one of the busier restaurants....and queues to get in are similar to others. The warm tea is always welcome. I always recommend the Black Daal and the Okra Fries. The chicken Ruby is great...and desert has to be the rice pudding. Always worth a visit...its my second time here and enjoyed it...though had to leave soon as food was finished due to queues.
