There are places where paying for a meal is a pleasure. Prawn on the Lawn is one of them. What an experience. A small, busy place full of character and where booking in advance is not recommended, I would say mandatory. The waitress was as polite, friendly and nice as I have ever seen, making you feel you were at a friend's place meeting hia/her missus for the first time. For me it is very important that first contact wih the Customer, as you define the "rules of engagement" and 1st impression is key.
Now the food. The Prawn on the lawn dish is an exquisite starter, a combination of avocado, prawn, dill an other herbs that left my girlfriend and I stunned and speechless. In the back of my brain I was going "so this is how its going to be...". And it was. We follwoed up with the scallops and thai marinate and it was, for me, the best. The sauce is rich and savoury, the scallops were beautifully cooked and the presentation was very simple, on the shell, almost as a statement: "we'll let the ingredients and cooking skills speak for themselves". We were in our foos heaven when we get the seafood stew, and it's just another nail to the coffin. Back in Porrugal we eat loads of sea food, and the good folks at PotL do clams, prawns, coquels and so on, a great service and honor them. For dessert we had the salted caramel and raspberry pudding/crumble (?). It's strong and sweet, with a pungent raspberry flavour, which sealed the meal perfectly, although i wouks have prefered to have more scallops for dessert (wifey scolded me for being greedy).
So summary: great food, friendliest service, nice margaritas and a bill that is not expensive for the beauty treatment you just got. Will be booking another table soon.
Sometimes you just have so much fun with a bunch of homies that the food takes the backstage. I came home after a night out with the “quartet of crazy bunchers” and while I was still 80% sober, I don’t remember much about Prawn on the Lawn. Since then, I’ve asked the other members of the dinner party what they remember from PotL (apart from the awesome name) but all of us agree that it was “delicious” but with few other recommendations. At least I’m pretty sure we didn’t perform that many faux pas (luckily Grant saved his accidental “yelling at the waitstaff” moment for later*) and am *fairly* confident that we could go back for more delicious seafood!
Fresh seafood that tastes like it has jumped straight out of the sea is in the middle of London.Prawn on the Lawn in Islington is a restaurant i have passed many times on my way home. I have always mistaken this place as a fishmongers. The quality has looked great as well as the options, so when my colleague told me that her friend owns it, it gave me more reason to visit.
Very fresh delicious seafood. The key selling point is how fresh produce is - the owners go to billingsgate twice weekly. The barrata and tuna was well seasoned. Only downside was a very hard shell on the crab making it a muscle and a half to crack. Dessert was great too. Wouldn't say the meal was completely filling.

This is –by far– our favourite spot in the area. Unlike any other fishmonger, this beautiful shop also has a few stools available to enjoy some tasty fishy plates and great wine. Their short menu will take you around the world in just a few dishes. From their scallop ceviche (£9) and monkfish & chorizo stew (£9) to their seared tuna with chilli and coriander (£8.5), everything is exquisite.
The welcoming staff also organises classes if you want to improve your seafood cooking skills or learn how to shuck oysters. If you’re in the neighbourhood, definitely come here. If you’re not, get your arse on the tube (or Uber) ASAP.

The Lobster Cocktail was filled with lump lobster meat, which is certainly not to be sneered at. The dressing was nice enough with its garlic hints. The thing is, it actually didn’t deliver as well as the other dishes, which is really only a testament to how good the other dishes were.
I wanted to go and try some amazing sea food and this was just the right place to do that. I went with my husband and we had an amazing experience. The fish served is absolutely fresh and just makes you want to eat more and more. You must try 'Prawn on the Lawn' and I am sure you will relish it. You should also try the oysters which I just loved beyond description. We ended up paying a lot considering that we did not even order any drinks to go with the food. I am definitely coming here once again.
This place is wonderful when it comes to initiating for making a soulful dish and intention of serving a good dish. Per day and Per week selections are offered in this petite and lovely restaurant offering fish and seafood which is good in the market during that time. There are bars along the side as well to enjoy!
I got there at 7 with some friends and the restaurant was not that busy.
The staff did their best to make our meal great. I asked to the waiter to suggest some dishes and he did it great.
So much seafood and it was all so good, muscles, prawn, clams etc. I am a wine drinker so I asked the waiter to bring us a good red wine and he brought a great bottle and brought a little ice pack to keep it cool.
I really enjoyed the night. It was a great dinner especially because was unexpected.
Would love to go back to this restaurant
Prawn on the lawn is a tiny restaurant dedicated to fresh fish, named after its signature dish. It's a really cool atmosphere as the staff are prepping fish and chatting to you, the option of sitting at the counter upstairs I find preferable for this reason but there is a downstairs, more formal, area too.
I had the burrata, the seared tuna and of course the prawn on the lawn. All beautifully presented, the burrata (mozzarella cooked with a knob of butter) was creamy and delicious. The prawns were delicately cooked nice and fleshy, the presentation too was inviting. The highlight of the evening however was seeing the chef slice our portion from the large tuna steak, it looked so appetising.
Good fun place for seafood lovers.
Great sea food the best I've had but the ambience not do great !!! So food would be rated excellent with ambience almost poor
I don't know about you but when it comes to seafood, it's a case of see food, eat food (horrible pun but it had to be done). The only problem is that because London is not particularly close to the sea, finding places that serve fresh produce can be a challenge. Restaurants claim they do and they might but coming from NZ, I know what fresh is meant to taste like and fresh in London is just lacking that little something.
So to guarantee the freshest seafood in London, you really have to go to a fishmonger and see it for yourself. I love a good fishmonger - the sights and smell take me back to my childhood when mum used to take me to buy dinner. So many times I wish I could just eat what I bought right there and then. If only I could find a fishmonger that also served food...
Bring on Prawn on the Lawn which has taken that genius idea and run with it to great effect. Situated in Highbury and Islington, Prawn on the Lawn is making a name for itself serving up delicious plates of the ocean's best and doing justice to the quality of the produce. Whether your preference is to crustacean, fish or shellfish, you will find something on the menu which will tickle your fancy and the extensive beverage list will ensure you find a suitable pairing.
My personal highlight was the fruit de mare which was an impressive sight but is really only suitable as a sharing plate (unless you are extremely hungry!). For those of us who are not competitive eaters, the seared tuna is a must and you won't be disappointed.
The dessert menu is small with only a handful of choices so temper your expectations on that front.
But really, it's all about the seafood at Prawn on the Lawn and I wouldn't want it any other way.

When I visited the charming Bonnie Gull, I remember writing about how the London bias towards burgers/steaks/hotdogs/generally all things meaty over the last few years has eclipsed poor old fishies. Their so-called Seafood Shack of Fitzrovia had brilliant, responsibly sourced and fully British seafood (good news that they are opening a second branch April-ish time, just up the road from me on Exmouth Market).
My visit to Prawn on the Lawn on Friday night made me think I haven’t been to many other excellent seafood places since. It’s a perfect combination of lovely fishmonger/tiny restaurant, with sustainable fish and seafood (they don’t request certain fish or get fish from the trawlers, but instead get what the fishermen have brought in that’s good that day/week). There’s a few barrels and bar along the side to sit, but they have recently done up the basement in addition, which seats around 12.
There’s an excellent drinks list for such a small place (everywhere should have coupe glasses for Prosecco/champagne), with the food menu chalked up on the wall. Most dishes are smallish and good for sharing, all prepared at the back of the room in the little kitchen area.
We had to try the namesake dish – Prawn on the Lawn (£6.50) is toasted soda bread, topped with mashed avocado and a couple of plump prawns, with the freshness of coriander, lime and chilli. Another of the first dishes was the calamari (£7), hung from the bar above the seats (nice touch), which was a cold salad, and really light with the chilli, parsley and lemon. The steamed ray wing (£9) was delicate and lightly fragrant, with carrot, spring onion and soy.
We decided to keep adding extra from the menu with their half pint of prawns (£6) came with a little crème fraiche for dipping the sweet bodies once de-headed and de-tailed. The two stews were both excellent – one a tomato and chorizo stew topped with slices of tender monkfish (£9.50), the other a light broth (with some fennel I think) with clams, mussels and prawns (£9). Both with more of their home-made soda bread (I think it’s often the best kind of bread to have with seafood).
It’s a small place, and there was just the four of them working in there – it’s very much a personal business, with the dessert made by one of the sweet waitresses (a tangy lemon posset with blackberries, £6). I didn’t get a chance to pick up some fish to cook, but it’s an excellent place to come for cooking at home.
I loved the cosy room with the fish counter at the front, great music and attention to detail (just little things like the glassware, napkins, and the bill attached to the top of a sardine tin, filled with pink shrimp sweets). It’s a special place tucked away in Highbury, and a must-visit for those that love all things fishy.
Small contemporary seafood restaurant perfect for an anniversary dinner. I highly recommend going a bit earlier when it is less crowded. I thought the service was much better earlier in the night when they weren't so busy. The service overall was still good.
Food wise - I loved how the portion sizes weren't so large that we could try a bunch of dishes. We started with oysters and bread with seaweed butter. I would have eaten a whole tub of the butter. We moved on to scallops, monkfish, roasted cauliflower, and octopus. All amazing, but what makes me a bit sad is they change their menu as soon as they run out of something, so I probably won't be able to come back and have the same dish. We watched them change their menu twice in the same night. (Definitely not a bad thing, but I do like being able to come back to a restaurant and get my favorite dishes).
One tip - order everything at the beginning. Because they do tend to run out of dishes, make sure you reserve one (or two) for your table!
Excellent experience...finding a good fish restaurant in London is v difficult to find , but this is very much up there with anything that the West end or City have to offer. Small ...so you need to book...but all the food on offer were of the highest quality. Enjoy
A lovely weekday lunch with my wife. The place is small, and was quickly full, so glad we came early as we hadn't booked. There is a laid back atmosphere here, with good service. The plates of seafood are small, so we ordered several. It was all very tasty. £100+ for lunch for 2 without alcohol is a bit much, but since it was full nonetheless, they're obviously doing something right. I'll be back. Just not that often!
This place was quite good, but for the price I don’t think it was worth it. The cocktails were good and the ambiance of the restaurant was good as well.
Fabulous meal at this smart trendy eatery. Love that the blackboard is changing while you watch just showing how fresh everything is. Friendly staff and finally the food is amazing. A must visit if you love seafood and small plates. Enjoy 😊
Been past this place enough times so was high time we tried it out. Sunday lunch was busy but still space to fit us in. Very good food, the oysters in particular. The tuna wasn't all that but the rest of our little plates did us nicely. Nice wines and our good waitress knew them well.
Visited for dinner. Our special, last-night-in-London dinner did not disappoint. Fresh oysters and the Bream Ceviche were the prize winners, but all of the small dishes we tried were delicious. With the exception of the BBQ mackerel with black spice. The black spice turned out to be every black spice they have in the kitchen, liberally sprinkled onto the fish. Created a bitter taste.
But back to the oysters and ceviche. The oysters were fantastically fresh from Maldon and Jersey, and there is something about peruvian ceviche, bright and fresh, that really makes it fantastic. San Francisco has a Peruvian seafood restaurant that also makes a really delicious ceviche. Perhaps the next food craze?
4.5 stars. Get in with crackingly good food. Minus 1/2 star for the price - why is London so expensive!
Enjoyed a Cornish negroni and some oysters to start. Then had the wild sea bass classically cooked with lemon, garlic and thyme with a plate of greens and spiced potatoes. Awesome... Simply awesome. Great produce cooked really well.
Seating is a bit tight but fine. Best off booking as not many seats available. If you are a no show they will charge you which is fair enough.
£150 for 2. Ouch but better for the experience.
This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants. The food is AMAZING. Innovative, interesting, fresh, DELICIOUS.
Oh, and the wine was good and well priced.
It was a mid afternoon, early evening meal, so it was quiet.
I desperately want to go to their one in Padstow.

Shame I can't give this place 6 stars, because they more then deserve it.
Small restaurant, with a big atmosphere.
The service is excellent and matches the top quality food.
The food is both beautiful to look at and incredibly tasty as well. It's similar to a tapas style approach, so there's plenty of variety to share.
They have a very good range of wines sure to match your tastes.
Prices are affordable and not overpriced.
Fantastic for date nights or small groups. Alternatively if you'd like a larger group, they have a downstairs room to cater for just such a party.
Highly recommended that you visit, I would suggest booking ahead as it is always busy.
My birthday lunch 🎂 had a lovely table served by Tilly so polite professional and knowledgeable. Tilly called at 12noon to confirm my online booking and told me not to worry if I was a bit late travelling from Essex. Nearest station is Highbury and Islington Cross over turn to the right follow the road less than 3mins...very warm welcome I love the fact the menu is never the same each day as fresh seafood gets delivered each day and then the menu is created. The Head Chef Patri was serving front of house showing her flexibility and how good her kitchen team Gigi and Basil are superb chefs. A great leader is one that can step away from the kitchen and it runs like clockwork.. A small cosy well managed restaurant with awesome seafood friendly staff, clean, felt very safe with their social distancing. The food was delicious hot well explained by serving staff great upselling and served quickly. Definately a place to visit and book inadvance ...I loved the fact during the pandemic the company retained all their staff which shows what great employers they are ..no staff shortages in this establishment.. well done 👏
Amazing food and amazing service ! Everything was cooked to perfection and the staff is friendly, competent snd approachable. Special mention to Eugenia who recommended the best dishes and a spectacular Sauvignon blanc by Stephan Pritsch if I remember correctly
Delicious seafood restaurant. Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Had the sharing plates, 4 was plenty for 2, with 2 sides. Next time I'll try the crab or lobster. Highly recommend!
Great seafood restaurant on a lovely street. We have five people and ordered all small plates on the menu. Every plate is so tasty. Seafood is fresh with perfect seasoning. Highly recommend prawn on the lawn and crushed spiced potatoes. Btw, tote bags and T-shirts are lovely with the brand of this restaurant on them.
Amazing fish and oysters, big shout out for the chef.
As the food is amazing the price isn't the lowest either but definitely worth it for a fab night out, celebration or even a cute date.
Staff is very friendly, great wine selection on the menu and relaxed atmosphere with a nice playlist in the background.
Haven't tried the cocktails but having a sneak peak over to other tables, they looked delicious as well.

Looks trendy place, nice music, welcoming staff, specially Sameera, who was all smiles and everything was easy for her to please customers. Food was fresh , although in small portions , but very tasty, prices are normal for London, not very expensive. The pannacotta dessert is really exceptional. Well done. Will come again. Ambiance really good.
Thank you
Superb food, sassy place
Sat at counter and chatted to the lovely chefs. A real treat. Great advice on what to eat. Love it here for simple supper or super treat.
I loved the place. Very fresh seafood. Service was friendly and attentive. Flavours were nicely balanced. We had the Sichuan prawns which had delicious barbeque flavour and perfectly cooked, but there wasn't anything Sichuan about it. Also the crushed spicy potatoes which were deliciously crunchy roasted spuds, but nothing spicy about it. Then for the mains we had a whole sea bass which was filleted to be cooked in 3 flavours - lemon, Thai with loads of coriander and Chinese with pickled carrots. The latter 2 were mouth watering. I'll come back for just them. Looking forward to trying more.
Recommendation from a lady in Abu Dhabi
Ate here for the first time. We sat and watched all the yummy food being prepared, which allowed us to indulge in ordering additional dishes. My fish was cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious 😋
