A very nice place with a very cozy and warm ambience that serves a delicious variety of delicious platters . The staff is highly professional and friendly, the service is prompt and punctual and the hygiene is optimal too.
My first trip to Europe was to London! Flat Iron came up a few times in my food search and theyāre known for their simple menu featuring the flat iron steak for Ā£11 (or about $18.75). They have various locations across London and we went to the one in Soho. We arrived at about 6:15pm and waited about 30 minutes. They always have a line up so be prepared to wait!
Good food with good price and best staffs!! Really enjoy my dinner there and definitely recommend this place to everyone!!

Long queueing is totally not a problem at all for a Ā£10 juicy & tender steak. What makes the steak so good? It is the cut from the shoulder, which is flavorful with good marbling but slightly tough since it contains membrane. I always order the steak with Creamed Spinach (Ā£3) as side dish and Fresh Horseradish Cream as the sauce.
The staffs are always friendly. The ambience is cool. The space is a bit crampy, yet still comfortable. My overall experience : 6/5 :)
*PS : Flat Iron doesnāt take reservations, so it is best to head down early in the evening to beat the large crowds of both tourists and locals.

A friend recommended this place when I was visiting London last month and after reading many good reviews about this place, I decided to give it a try. Overall it was a good experience. The service was good and foods worth the money, not too expensive for a steak house.
I ordered the flat iron steak (medium rare, seasoning was on point and itās so juicy), baked aubergine (with tomato sauce and cheese on top), dripping chips (so good!) and peppercorn sauce (best combined with the steak).

while their Covent Garden location is packed and the wait period can last to a minimum of an hour, this location has almost little to no wait time. iām here for the ribeye (almost always out on Covent Garden) and their creamed spinach. i like the fact that they serve popcorn while you wait for your food.

Their waiting/reservation system is very good, however, as they text you immediately once a table frees up!
Most delicious steak, I have ever eaten. High quality with low price compared to other places. Nice ambience, seems like an Italian restaurant at first sight. There are 3 main course options; including the todayās special written on the chalkboard. At the end of the dinner you can pick up free salted caramel, itās also very very good! Must go place.

This place is for youth. Fascinating to see but too noisy for us. We found a refuge on the fringe at Where The Pancakes Are, which worked well for us. It is round the corner from the excellent Manier theatre. Good before a show, but be warned

It is really hard to find a place that you can keep visiting in London. I didnāt have such a good experience with food till now. However Flat Iron is a really nice place to go to. I loved both the drinks and the steak, though it needed a little bit of salt, but it was great. And at least they got real fries. Recommended to try, even if you had to wait a little bit to go in. Personally iād go back again.

The place is nice and cosy and the food is good. But is it worth waiting a long time in line? May be for the first time. I visited with a friend and took ages until we found a place. I am not sure I am willing to go through that experience again.

Probably one of the best restaurants I tried in London in my short 3 days trip, and just writing about it takes me back to the amazing little place in Soho that serve one of the best steaks ever. we basically ordered everything on the menu and there was nothing that is below expectation. This place is definitely one of my favorite place in London so far. It is located on an energetic street in Soho. The staff is very friendly. I was seated in the bar and had a conversation with the waitress which made me feel welcomed. I liked the interior of the place and how everything is set as well as the dim lights which sets a cozy and warm mood. I had the Flat Iron Steak with Dripping Cooked Chips and Fredās Sauce and a carafe of Fruity Chilean Merlot. Best combination ever. I had my steak cooked medium well and it tasted perfect. For dessert, I had Salt Caramel Sundae which was good but nothing special. The only thing that I could suggest is to have more desserts. They also have burgers depending on the day. Recommended!

I loved the simplicity of this restaurant! They focus on a small menu, and have perfected it. The steak was quite tasty and delicious and they are most definitely deserving of their excellent reviews. This location was also a great stop after a day of shopping (but make sure to visit it at least 1.5 hours before youāre hungry because the wait does get quite long)!

So the key here is simplicity. Do very little, but do it very well. An impactful menu of a staple meat with various sides is exactly what you want when you want an injection of meat, without having to mull over the cuts, the sauces, etc ,etc. Order your meat which comes with a salad, top up with some carbs of fries if you should so desire and then experiment with the sides.
There is not much you can write about Flat Iron as its pretty straightforward. With our steak, served medium rare, we had a side of chips, gorgeous creamed spinach and sex on plate that is their aubergine bake with cheese and tomato. Yum. The service is quick and itās really well priced; you are in and out in an hour on occasion. I love it. It is fast food on a luxury tip.
I have been to the one in Shoreditch, but was so hungry that I forgot to take pics. To be fair, on this occasion when I visited the Soho branch, I think I failed miserable again on getting some decent shots. How can I help it, my focus was on devouring this dreamboat as opposed to cueing up the perfect picture. Please forgive me. It may also have something to do with the fact that their Old Fashioneds are dreamy creamy, so I downed a couple of them.
To keep this short and sweet, it ticks every box. Reasonable priced steak, tick. Lush sides, tick. Fab service, tick. Another brand, who we will not name, has popped up outside of London following the Flat Iron format to the letter. They say that flattery is a form of a compliment, but on this occasion, I would have to say it is just laziness to create ones own identity. Anyway, the hardcore Flat Iron crew will quite frankly give that imitator a miss if we are every up North while we wait for Flat Iron to expand outside the M25.
The place to go for unpretentious steak cooked to perfection, at affordable prices to boot. I recommend their horseradish sauce as the perfect accompaniment. Decor is industrial and minimalist. Service is relaxed and polite.

A satisfying meal with tender steak and reasonable price. We beat the lineup by arriving before 6pm on a weekday. Seating is a bit cramped but expected as we are in London. AL had the regular steak and I had one with a better cut but costs a little more.Ā IĀ think I hadĀ the most tender steak in my life at Flat Iron! It blows my mind. Now I wonder how it compares to the Kobe beef in Japan. It's hard to beat in terms of texture. However, I find it's lacking a bit of beef flavor when comparing to Canadian or American steaks. I would still recommend to friends visiting London. Must try!
Awesome dishes! I have never tasted a steak as good as the one they offer. My only problem was with the place; the chairs are unconfortable especially that I was visiting with elderly people.

Flat iron is the reason that, despite all the available veggies goodies, you simply can't be a vegetarian if you're a Londoner (jk, no offence ;) ). The lack of variety on their menu says it all - they know how to do steaks. And probably just that, but what's there more to ask for?
My friends Sophie's Salad (for just 3,50Ā£) looked insane too, with the blue cheese topping, haven't tried it though.

Honestly (apart from not being able to book) you cannot go wrong. Great steak (to London standards, being a South African they're pretty low and Flat Iron is good). You must have chips and spinach- just amazing! Also have the salted mouse a try, it's small so wouldn't hit the spot for a guy but was great for me!

We went here on a Sunday night and got a table for two immediately.
They have a very limited menu which only has their flatiron steak and some sides. They also had a special of a burger or a premium Wagyu steak.
Their flatiron steak was excellent and comes with a serving of watercress for Ā£10. We had chips for Ā£2.50, but there were several other sides available.
We had their sundae dessert which was excellent for Ā£3.50.
The wine was pleasant and very reasonably priced.
If you want a steak, this is the place to go.

They are located in three central locations here in London.Ā Iāve visited the original branch by Oxford Street on numerous occasions. The concept and menu is very simple but contains all you need. There is one steak option for Ā£10, some side options and thatās it, nice and easy. The dyonāt take reservations so you most likely have to queue. As with many places, they take your number and you can wonder off until they notify you that your table is ready. With their central locations thereās plenty to do to kill time.

I chose the Flat Iron Steak medium rare of course! This does come with a house salad but today my stomach was grumbling and was in need of filling so I ordered the dripping cooked chips and Sophie's salad in addition to this.
My meal came fairly quickly but I was really disappointed, the portion was very small and the sides were tiny. I mean I ate my steak and entire sides and felt like I could go for an additional burger and chips elsewhere. Having read other reviews seen pictures etc the steak side and quantity looked decent which just goes to show how deceiving pictures can actually be.
The steak itself I found flavourless where I had to add salt to get some extra flavour out of it( which is not what I do at all).
I left without dessert and considering the price I left very disappointed
Absolutely top notch stuff at such a reasonable price! Staff were really friendly, explaining all about the menu. The tables were very communal and it was a nice atmosphere (trendy dark). We were served water and free popcorn to share as we sat down. Both my friend and I ordered the flat iron steak with a sauce and greens, and we shared some chips. This was only around Ā£13 each! The steak was so juicy and perfectly cooked with lovely texture and taste. I was already planning on taking my bf and family next time while I was still eating as I couldn't wait to come back!

If you like a medium-rare piece of steak like I do, and have never been to Flat Iron, just go!
Flat Ironās menu is simple: the only main course is steak. For Ā£10, you can get the house steak with salad and then add sides. The steak is tender and juicy. I recommend aubergine and the cream spinach as sides. Their wine list is also pretty good.
The only bad side: there is always a long wait.

I really like their steak and salad. Very affordable at Ā£10. Ive tried the horseradish, bearnaise and peppercorn sauce. I really liked the peppercorn sauce the most because of the pepper kick.. The creamed spinach was just ok for Ā£3. I don't think ill be ordering that again. I do plan to order the cooked chips and salad the next time since their side sale that comes with the steak is very good š. Oh, and i really enjoyed their free popcorn that is served while ordering and waiting for the food! š
Top-notch price/quality ratio. The steak is succulent and awe-inspiring for a mere tenner (a rarity in London). The sides are very good although the fries (at least mine) were somewhat greasy. Nothing ato worry if you have a low-percentage body fat. If you have a high percentage... Try them as well: as we say in Portuguese (free translation ensues): "they compensate how bad they are for how tasty are." ("Compensam o mal que fazem pelo bem que sabem.")
I came here and ordered New Zealand Wagyu flat iron steak š š“ A bit disappointed with my steak as we all ordered medium rare but mine was rare with a lot more 'bloody liquid' clearly to be seen š¢ unlike the other medium rare steak being served (the one in the photo) where there wasn't as much bloody liquid but the waiter kept insisting they were all medium rare. I've tried rare, medium rare, medium and medium well done so I can tell there is a big difference š

Such good value for a brilliant, flavoursome cut of steak that is not fatty at all! The steak is always Ā£10 and then you add on the sides that you want ā we had the dripping cooked chips and the creamed spinach. Be warned ā there is always a queue to get in (yes even on Monday nights!) but you can put your name down and then they text you when there is a table free so at least you can pop to a bar nearby...
Flat Iron is part of the annoying āno reservationā trend that seems to have swept London lately, so I played it safe and visited late on a Monday lunchtime. I love my food but Iām not prepared to queue outside a restaurant on a grey, muggy day for it. Safely seated inside, I was taken through the procedure by one of the waitresses. Their star dish is a flat iron steak, served with salad and a range of sides and sauces. They do now offer specials, such as burgers or other cuts of steak, but itās not a place to visit if youāre not into red meat.

Yep, the rumours are true: sweet little place to get urself a š steak for comparatively cheap. First make sure you get the right restaurant (there's 3) - don't end up sprinting thru Soho coz ur gf says ur at the Henrietta St one and she '_just_ got a table at the Beak St one' & you 'need to be here _now_ Tom'. Also get there v early to ensure minimum wait for table, unless you enjoy big hour+ queues in which case yeah go when you like.
The Ā£10 steak is class, peppercorn sauce always a banger, gr8 chips reminiscent of McDonalds pre you've-got-to-be-healthy-now-lads days, quality spinach. Sharing 2 sides plus the splurge of salad is surprisingly bang on the right amount of food to fill u up.

This has been a stand out venue during my stay in London. Really great knowledgable staff, who went through the menu with us as soon as we sat down. The popcorn cooked with beef dripping was an awesome starter. The steak was so tasty and full of flavour. They suggested medium rare but medium was perfect for me (pink in the centre but not bloody). The peppercorn sauce was the best I've ever had too. The fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. We really enjoyed all the food and the atmosphere.

Flat Iron is the best quality/price relation I've found in London when eating out. Especially when we're talking steak... This is just amazing!
Only downsides - the wait (and no reservations) and the short menu (which for me is a plus but limits some of the people I can invite to accompany me in a meal here).
Definitely one of the best steak houses out there, with an unbelievably affordable price of just Ā£10. Flat iron will always have something on their special board but after trying their specials a few times none of them seem to live up to their original flat iron steak, so just stick with the original. Recommended temperature for their steak is medium rare.
Finish off with their salted caramel mousse, they are worth a try for those who need to finish their meal on a sweet note (like me).
Also, they will get extra busy and they do not accept reservations. So I strongly suggest popping up an hour before their busy times eg. 12pm or 5pm.
Meat of this level it was probably the best I've had, super tender, very well cooked! The sides are good but are not at the same level of the meat. The disappointing was that we were waiting for the table more than two hours, but if you are a meat lover it is worth the wait.

Having arrived with my twice- not- so- lucky- couldn't-get-a-table-friend, Ā we scored one right away at noon on a Wednesday. Beginner's luck! We were shown to a table in the basement.
It was dimly lit and relatively empty which was a good thing as we would have been literally elbow to elbow if the table next to us were taken. The light fittings were dangerously low and we had to watch our heads! A cup of complimentary popcorn Ā on the table was a nice touch.We nibbled while studying the short and straight forward menu.We opted for the standard flat iron steak with salad for Ā£10.The specials board had onglet steak for Ā£15.We also went for sides of chips,creamed spinach and Ā aubergine with peppercorn and bernaise sauce to accompany. I liked the miniature cleaver in place of the more pedestrian steak knife. After a short wait, our food arrived and we couldn't wait to tuck in.I suspect this is very much due to the Ā all the hype beforehand. The steak was a well cooked medium rare one and Ā very tender but lacked an overall 'beefy' flavour and the bernaise was also a little bland. The creamed spinach was a great way to have our greens. Aubergine was very cheesy and almost a main in itself.Ā
It was a good piece of well cooked steak overall and great value for the money,which is probably the crowd puller. The cost of sides do add up though. I did enjoy it but truthfully it is not something that warrants a 3 hour wait if that were indeed true.Our bill came up to Ā£36 with no drinks.
Definitely a must try. The flat iron steak was well seasoned and even when I ordered medium instead of the suggested medium rare, the steak was tender. They precut the steak to thick slices which make it easy yet got cold quicker, but I didn't feel the difference by the time I was done. I also ordered horseradish sauce which was really good on the steak (if you like the strong flavor of horseradish that is). My friend ordered bernaise sauce and it was nice as well. They provide infused water and salted popcorn so it was great. The service was really good as well, it was full but we didn't wait for too long, and the plating and knife piqued my interest. The interior was nice but a bit too dark. If I go to London again I will definitely come here again.
Great experience at the flat iron the staff was really nice, and organized. The 40 minute wait end up being only 20 and the meat is 100% up to the standars that the restaurant is known by..
Absolutely stunning! Although the steak may be smaller than you expected, it has good quality. As for the sides, the chips there are not the usual ones we have in fast food restaurants, it has a distinct beef flavour that I can't fully describe. It may be one of the nicest I've ever tried!
For dessert, we had the salt caramel sundae. The chocolate sauce mixed with the sourbon syrup very well, it kinda tasted like rum with toffee
Had a amazing time, the food was Scrumptious, best stake I ever had. Also the cream spinach was to die for and the cocktail were reasonable priced with a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
When someone first told me about Flat Iron I thought theyād got their facts wrong ā a decent hunk of juicy steak, in London, for a tenner ā surely not?! But they were right, and I was wrong. Alexandra and I popped along to check out this magical place a few weeks agoĀ and were not at all disappointed.
Flat Iron looks like a rustic, yet modern āhipster-styleā lumberjacks tavern it serves aĀ well-cooked classic steak, then get yourself to Flat Iron in Soho. The meal isnāt huge, but prices are reasonable considering the quality of the meat. Itās a nice treat for once in a while and at Ā£30 for 2 people its actually good value.
Lovely place with good value steak - only Ā£10 though with a side and sauce you'll end up at Ā£13.50. Still great value for central though, and the popcorn at the start is a nice touch. Service a bit slow towards the end, and make sure to get there early to avoid queues. All in all, tasty meat, GREAT chips, and lovely bearnaise sauce. No place for vegetarians ;)
Steak for Ā£10 (well, Ā£12.5) - a bargain! The steak itself is on a smaller side, but cooked well. It was cooked in lots of butter though, which overpowers the meat flavour. Really nice drinks - strawberry & basil was amazing. Rose lemonade (from bottle) was also very nice.
I heard so many good reviews that I was tempted to try out this joint. Simple meal but it seem to work really well......short and concise. The steak was very good and the beer was delicious. Recommend ppl to try this place.

Popped in for lunch a few days ago as I really fancied a steak. My first tip would be to advise you to go early, otherwise you're guaranteed to end up in a long boring queue and waiting times can be over an hour.
Anyway, on to the food. Both my wife and I chose the signature flat iron steak. We paired them with fresh green beans and Sophie's salad. Drinks - fresh mint lemonade and a cider.
My 1st impression on seeing the steak was that it was a bit on the small side, however it tasted good and had been cooked really well. But then again, you can't grumble when it's a tenner. The sides were good and tasted great.
Drinks - my cider was absolutely lovely, could drink that all day. The fresh mint lemonade was in my opinion a bit of a con, as half the glass is filled with crushed ice - the drink is over in a few sips.
Dessert - we shared the salted caramel mousse, which I must say was totally shit. How they can justify charging Ā£2.50 for an oversized shot glass filled with mousse from a squirty can and dressed with a bit of sea salt is beyond me, but they do. It was so aerated and had no substance or depth to it. And ultimately, this based my decision to rate this place with a 3.5. Had it not been for that, I would probably have given it 4.0.
Please come here when you are in London! Your tastebuds will thank you! Everything was amazing from the tender delicious steak to the friendly service! Highly recommended! Get the Wagyu steak!

When there's only one item on a restaurant's menu, it's better be good!Ā If you are lucky enough (or have the patience of an elephant) to get inside, you are in for a treat. The staff is lovely and helpful, and they will text you as soon as there's an available spot. That way you can roam around and waste some money at the near by shops, instead of standing outside with a hungry and hopeful look.Ā The interior is very cosy, which is a nice way to say that you will most likely than not have to share a table with some strangers, a point that I wouldn't particularly mind, if the stools were not the most uncomfortable stools I ever had the displeasure to sit on. Ā As a girl who loves her steak, I have to also love the bum that comes with loving steak, a bum that the stools at Flat Iron just could not accommodate comfortably. To our luck the one small table for two, with real chairs, that is hidden in a tiny nook became available shortly after our arrival, and the very sympathetic waitress (girls with big bums unite!) who could obviously feel my pain, moved us there.Ā From that point on it was a great experience. I've ordered flat iron steak, that came perfectly medium rare, soft and very juicy, with eggplant Parmesan side that was small but delicious. The menus hanging on the walls, a touch of quirky detailed decore and the little meat cleaver that is served instead of a knife, add some fun to an already good meal. Best value for money that a carnivore can get!
I visited Flat Iron with my brother for a quick dinner recently and was impressed with the quality at such a reasonable price.
I enjoyed the Aussie chuck which was the special that night. I do think it was much better than the house steak. It's a cool vibe inside with 3 floors of tables, loud music and a great buzz.
We did have to wait 1 hour for our table on a Thursday night but there are plenty of pubs around!

Cosy steakhouse. There's not much choice, but the stuff on the menu is excellent. The flat iron steak is juicy, full of flavour and great in size. Limited seating, so you may end up sitting with fellow diners on the same table. Highly recommend a visit.
You can't make a reservation for this restaurant. Because of this you have to wait for a while, nearly 30-40 minutes. And the menu is so basic that the flat steak is only main course. You should say only how it is cooked. You can enrich your meal by ordering some sauces and side dishes. The taste level is higher than standard. The bad things in this restaurant; inattentive staff and noisy ambiance. Awesome steak for the price. Next time I've got to try one of their specials. Plenty of other places to go to nearby whilst waiting for a table. (It's first come first serve, no prebookings. But they'll text you when a table is ready)
Absolutely gorgeous steak cooked to perfection at medium rare, practically melted in the mouth, not to mention the best chips I've had in a very long time- they have a particular distinctive taste that is different to any other on the market at the moment and makes them very noticeably good. Very nice and authentic peppercorn sauce as well that perfectly complimented the steak.
On a slightly negative note my boyfriend's steak was really quite small ( even for there standards) and I ended up having to give him some of mine! The tightly squeezed seating also makes it slightly less relaxed with about 5 inches between you and the next person..
Overall though the service was great and the flavours of the food were amazing, not to mention for a good price!

WOW - this place is sensational and all importantly SIMPLE
Menu is small just 2 steaks and 1 burger, it's not about size it's about quality and quality is what makes flat iron head and shoulders above the rest
The steak is cooked perfectly and to my liking and the staff are keen and attentive but not over bearing would highly recommend the only reason it didn't get 5* is the drinks menu is a little limited
But that just me being a fuss, maybe I should grow up haha

So it's Easter Monday and we're on the way to The Smoking Goat which ends up being shut but we actually meet the Chef / Owner out front and he recommended Flat Iron. It was on our list anyway and right here so brilliant!
Hesitated a moment too long and missed the 1 special Chateau cut available for 2. Probably for the best anyway as the steak was plenty. The sides were definitely not for sharing. The creamed spinach was definitely better than the market green's.
Desert was a caramel salty goodness in a champagne flute. Again not a sharing size but for the price honestly what do you expect?

I tried both the Ā£10 flat iron steak and the daily special, Wagyu beef from New Zealand at Ā£18 sounded like a real bargain.
Value for $, decent steak with superb service. Came here after reading the reviews and was definitely not disappointed! simple menue - either the flat iron cut of steak or the burger version for only 10 gbp and a range of sides (we got the chips and the aubergine with parmesan, tomato and basil). Although small menu, they do it very well - great produce they serve. This place probably relies on high table turnover and although we had to wait an hour for our table (no bookings policy), they serve a well considered and reasonably priced cocktail-beers-wine list. we didn't feel rushed at all and the staff were really nice -- came to replace the side dish for the diners next to us when they accidentally dropped the pepper grinder onto it. cheap feed (44 gbp incl. drinks for 2) but really satisfying -- highly recommended!

If you like steak . . .. Decor is what you'd expect, sharing tables where you can be slotted in as no booking available - so you just have to take a chance you can get in . . . but is it worth it? Yes, yes & yes (unless you don't like steak of course!).
THE simplest of menu's - choice of flat iron steak or the daily special cut - and a selection of sides . . . all 3 of our steaks were cooked to taste; and maybe the second bottle of wine wasn't needed (as it was lunch) but the surroundings were so chilled we didn't want to leave.
Will most certainly be going again . . . and try and leave some room for dessert next time.
Most of you have probably heard of Flat Iron, in fact theyāve been making such an impression that they now have a second restaurant. However, if you havenāt, all you need to know is that this place does a pretty mean steak. In a market where steak restaurants have saturated the field; Gaucho, Hawksmoor,and Roxie Steakhouse to name only but a fewā¦itās pretty difficult to find one with character, decent prices, and incredible food.
I'm probably a bit late to jump on the band wagon here but, I've been toĀ Flat Iron ! I have attempted to go toĀ Flat Iron Ā before now, however it is one of these no reservations places that seem to take several attempts to actually get the chance to eat in. This time however we had a plan. A friend who works nearby went straight round to put our names on the list to await a call when there was a table free. The rest of us made our way over to Soho and we all enjoyed a nice drink over the road while we waited and got a seat just after 7pm. We were seated upstairs which is a small dining room with mostly bench seating, so be prepared to take a pew next to strangers. There are few separate tables at the back but presumably with the no booking policy you wouldn't be able to secure one of these except by chance. The decor is rustic and basic with bare brick walls but there's definitely a homely comforting vibe about the place. If steak isn't your thing, don't bother going toĀ Flat Iron ,
The food was so delicious I completely forgot to take any photographs ā but the house steak, at only 10 quid a slab, was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We piled up on the sides, creamed spinach, aubergine (eggplant) and parmesan, fries, and house greens.
Waiters excluded, the decor set that atmosphere as well with the suspended headlights and the canteen-like tables with stools. There was even a small cleaver (instead of a knife) on the table which added a nice distinctive touch to the dining experience although I didn't really use it.
Despite having only been open for two months, Flat Iron Steak is already gathering quite a following. After starting out as a small pop-up restaurant in Shoreditch, Flat Iron now finds itself firmly located on Beak St, right in the heart of London. The steak is cooked exactly to order; yes it does require a little more jaw work than a boring fillet but you are rewarded with a richness of flavour through a good amount of juicy marbled fat. Itās decent. Very decent. And itās ten pounds.

This restaurant was rated very highly in several reviews, and that prompted me to try it out. We went there on a weekday evening, and we found there was a crowd milling about the door. After nudging my way through I encounter one of the staff with a clipboard writing down names which spilled over to the next page.Ā
Without further delay I asked him about the availability of table for two, and was informed that the wait would be 1.5-2 hours !?!??!!!?? after getting on the list we moved off to a watering hole nearby. Luckily there were several excellent options nearby, and we settled in for a drink. We were called after about an hour or so, and informed that our table was ready.
The place was tiny, and seating was on 6 seater wooden picnic tables, and necessarily across from each other. No chairs, but rather round stools which were firmly attached to the table. We were allotted a space in the middle of a six seater with other couples on either side of us.Ā
In this cozy atmosphere, we ordered our Flatiron steaks with Bernaise and Chips, accompanied by a carafe of house red.
If I list what stands out in my mind when I think of Flatiron - Long waiting time, polite but hurried service, cramped seating arrangements, limited menu choices, and exceptionally good flatiron steak!

Good value for steak the portions of side dishes are small and the fries are not good. The steak is defiantly worth it though. Tender meat, I order medium rare which was cooked properly.
Went for lunch for 2 plus sleeping baby in buggy. First look of how small and narrow this place is we thought we'd have to find an alternative but the staff were so accommodating. We signed up for a table on their on line queue which sends you a text when your table is ready. They ended seating us in an alcove at the back, luckily our buggy just fit. Food was great for price, decor and cutlery was fun and staff lovely to hungry parents. Don't think they have baby changing but they do have a large disabled toilet on ground floor. Highly recommended.

Soho is such an amazing place and a foodie's paradise. I was searching for some proper steakhouses around London via Zomato and came across this. I saw their menu online and thought maybe there was something more to it once I get to the restaurant. It wasn't hard to find. I got off Oxford Circus and walked past Hamley's, took a left at the second signal, and walked down a bit more. It's right next to a Korean restaurant.
The place was very warm and felt nice and cozy after the walk in the 1'C weather outside - so gloomy! We were greeted nicely by the server and I loved how he tried to seat us as soon as he could without us having to even use the buzzer. It was quite narrow but high, in a sense where they have a basement for a bar, a seating area on the ground floor and some more upstairs. The interiors were rustic and had some butcher's knives hanging on the wall as a decor. It was quite packed so they had to seat a party of four right next to us - the idea was that you'd have to share the long wooden table with other people during peak hours.
The menu was just about what I read online, which I liked, and was simply hung on the wall, so they only give you the drinks menu. They really have confidence in sticking to serving one thing - flat iron steak. They suggest medium rare for the doneness of the meat, but we decided to go medium. We also had a side order of dripping cooked chips, peppercorn sauce, and Fred's sauce. The steaks came with a side of house leaf salad anyway, so one order of chips was more than enough. They serve you salted popcorn in a cup, with comps from the resto, and a jug of water, too. The orders didn't take all that long, and I thought I saw the most beautiful steak ever. It was beautifully cut and you could tell that it was well rested, as there was none of that juice running around your plate. The plating was very simple, yet rustic. The steak was tender and had that beautiful slight smokey taste to it. It's not your typical steak which you have and just feel like passing out afterwards. This made you feel light and full at the same time, it was balanced. The peppercorn sauce was a bit creamy and had just a tad bit of a hint of sweetness alongside the natural peppery taste, while Fred's sauce, a spicier tomato-based sauce, seemed to have a hint of wasabi in it - it gives you that kick in the nose! The chips were crunchy and not soggy at all - beautifully seasoned. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Rustic, yet funky. Loved the whole idea of it. Loved the food and the service. Would definitely recommend this place to steak lovers! Don't leave Soho without trying this place!

To avoid the queues, I ventured to Flat Iron for lunch (12:15pm) instead of dinner. When I arrived the place was fairly quiet with plenty of tables to choose from. However, by 12:45pm a queue had already formed to dine here!
The steak was juicy and tender ā definitely worth the revisit. Initially the size of the steak was a concern for me (I eat A LOT), however combined with the side dishes, I left Flat Iron full grinning like a Cheshire cat.
My only concern for my next visit is the seating space. As I arrived fairly early on this occasion meant that there was plenty of room with no one sitting beside me. However, I have walked pass Flat Iron many times and seen diners squashed together on the communal dining tables/benches like packed sardines in a tin. Nonetheless, it's a small sacrifice in return for mouth-watering steak!
Good place to eat with a good standard of meat. Simplicity! Queue might take sometimes, recommend to eat during afternoon time to avoid the crowd.

The Flat Iron cut is an under-rated piece of meat. Nonetheless, it is a terrific tasting muscle from the shoulder of a cow. I worked at Jamie Oliverās BBQ restaurant, Barbecoa, and was regularly examined on beef cuts. I am familiar with the basic anatomy of the cow. Only recently has the Flat Iron cut taken the restaurant and beef industry by storm. Mainly because of its affordable price and juicy tenderness. My buddy recommended I visit Flat Iron on the simple persuading factors that it was incredibly cheap and served ground breaking meat. Well I was ready to give it a swirl the next evening.
Two Flat Iron restaurants in London: The mother is on Beak Street, a side road off Regents Street. And the newer established sister on Denmark Street, also Soho. Simplicity is what they are about. I could deal with an hour. An excuse to try out their slightly claustrophobic underground bar. Front of house staff were charming and enthusiastic. Coincidentally, my boss followed me through the door, excited to see me and excited about the quality of the Flat Iron Steak. āWhat a surprise to see you Thorne, this is my fourth trip ā youāll love it.ā And love it I did!

Their sparse menu located on the wall with ONE CHOICE: Flat Iron Steak @ Ā£10, makes choosing simple. Wagu special was available, but no, I was here to eat the name my friend. We ordered a couple of sides: fries and aubergine bake @ Ā£2 and peppercorn sauce @ Ā£1. My medium rare steak was full of flavour, perfectly seasoned and remained juicy and tender throughout. A mini cleaver was provided as a steak knife. Theatrical, effective and added a gimmicky but winning touch. Iāve paid three times the amount for steak of this quality. Flat Iron impressed me. Young enthusiastic service, the location, value for money ā you cannot beat, and up most, the juicy Lucy meat. My last word is simplicity, true to what makes it a fantastic choice. Less is more.
This is probably one of the best steak places I have ever been to. The steak is so tend and succulent, it keeps you coming back for more. The ambiance and atmosphere is next to no other, as there is a dark overcast with dim lighting to give it that calming touch. The service was fantastic and the food was definitely value for money. The small meat cleavers instead of knives topped off the whole experience. I would recommend anyone to go and I will definitely be returning!
The food here is extremely tasty but the portions are tiny , not enough to fill you up , so you tend to leave hungry . The food is expensive too . considering the servings were that small . Will not go back again unless price are slashed . Wouldn't recommend to anyone either .
If you are not really a steak person then this place would be of no interest to you. I was very impressed by the decor and found it quite exquisite and fancy. The ambiance is amazing and the staff is well coordinated and cooperative. They have a great selection of steaks and trust me when I say this that the steaks that they serve and freshly made and possess an authentic taste. A must visit and surely worth it.
This place has a very simple and understated decor, yet it is quite stylish and conducive with the vibe that they have created for themselves. I was served complimentary popcorn as soon as I was seated, and I ordered the burger on recommendation of the waitress. I actually liked it a lot, and would be returning for another. It was a nice change from my usual servings of a steak dinner.
The restaurant offers great food, superbly seasoned and mouth watering that I wish to go again right away. the portion may seem small but along with the sides, It is good enough for one person. the service is prompt. the prices are also reasonable. The steak was perfectly marinated and very impressive.
I guess there are enough reviews about this place, and mine comes a bit late, but I have visited this place and loved it. I have tried to get to this restaurant for a long time, but they do not take reservations here, and it takes many endeavours to actually get seated. This is a lovely steak place , with some amazing food available for very affordable prices . The grass-fed flat iron steak with house salad was exquisite , the meat so soft and succulent , ans cooked to perfection. The place doesn't take pre bookings , and that is the only sad part .
This place offers the best options from far east and every place around the world.
With all dishes from around the world, this place is the best in its league. I would definitely recommend this place for you will surely have a pleasurable evening! The service is also decent enough.
Visited this place after reading positive reviews and was certainly not disappointed.The menu is nothing over the top, though food is delicious. Ordered a steak and on sides, chips, aubergine, tomato and basil. The food was delighting. The cocktails are priced reasonably. Staff does not rush you. Only downside, the table turnover is high and there is no advance booking policy.
It was a mind blowing experience here. We ordered only 1 main dish i.e. steak and it was worth the money. You can also pick up different sides and sauces according to your choices. We ordered Steaks with Horseradish Sauce and Fred's Sauce, and they were terrific to taste. It's value for money too.
We had visited way too many mediocre bars, and had too much of overpriced food before we found this amazing place. It is very quaint and cozy, and this place is always full, regardless of the time. However, it is possible to wait outside at the bar and there would always be some amazing offers available. The steak was perfectly prepared, and the fries were ingenious. They tasted so fresh and amazing. I highly recommend this place.
To begin with, the place is always crowded and welcomes you with a long queue but will definitely be worth it! Coming to the food we ordered, the steak was tender and done medium rare, very delicious! Also ordered, creamed spinach which was just fine. The place is small but charming and is a value for money!
This place is a delight. The perfect combination of good food and value for money. coming to our orders, we had, Steak which was immensely well cooked and delicious. The flavours and ingredients are well blended, there is no need for sauce. Red wine was pleasing. Service is amicable and ambience stylish! Do visit!
In a nutshell, this was an amazing experience. The steak was not pricey at all, and it tasted exceptionally amazing. The menu is very conducive to choice, it is not overwhelming at all. They also gave us free popcorn to munch on as we waited for our food. The cutlery is beautiful, and the attention to detail is appreciable. The only downside was that wine was served in tumblers, which spoils the look.
This place does not get too crowded but the waiting area is a funky bar in the basement which makes for a great option after the meal too.
The menu is limited to only one main course which is reasonably priced and has a few great sides on offer too.Their famous and only Iron stake is simply incredible ,one of its kind and my regular order.
But this place is not that ideal for an intimate date as the small interiors make the place really cramped.

Visit the restaurant if you wish to eat just steak because the restaurant does not offer anything else. the option of side orders is also very limited to the very basic fries and salad. The menu may be limited but the food is delectable. the service is swift. The staff is unpretentious and genuinely nice. So kudos to the effort!
If you enjoy your steaks then this definitely is the right place for you to visit. My experience has been a pleasant one on both the occasions. What draws you towards this place is the sheer simplicity of the menu. You can enjoy a steak with sauces that enhance its flavour. Sometimes there are special varieties of steak that are offered. Occasionally you might see a burger too in the menu. The cooking team needs to see that steak is hot when it is served. I believe this was one area that they can be improved. A one time visit for all you steak lovers out there!
We went to this place on two occasions and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly during both our visits. The menu is quite simple and you would find something that you will love. However, this place is for people who like steak, others should probably give it a miss. The steaks are served in a very innovative manner but they are quite cool when brought forth. The fries were quite good as well and the sauce didn't disappoint either. Definitely recommended, except that they should make the steaks afresh.
I was here a couple of weeks ago and had to wait for a long time before we finally got a table. The place is 3 floors big and also offer a bar downstairs. I asked for the chef's special and was suggested to try their Flat iron, which is a steaks dish which was medium rare and was cooked perfectly. The presentation of the food was jaw-dropping and it tasted really amazing. Also, the place is very reasonably priced and I would love to visit this place again very soon.
I had a great time here. They serve you with popcorn which are made up of beef drippings as a pre-meal snack. They are very delicious and a great pre-meal snack. They serve you with very delicious and fine Wagyu steak in the meal, which is perfectly sliced through butter and it tastes very good.

A steak for ten quid is not to be passed on lightly. I picture vegetarians staring into their watery bowls of soup and seriously reconsidering their lifestyle choice after learning about Flatiron.
I couldnāt believe how quickly we got seated ā itās really worth bombing straight from work cos they were queuing out the door by the time we left. Thereās only room for about 20-30 people so donāt try turning up with more than a couple of you. Actually who am I to dictate ā go on, try it.
You canāt beat the brilliant simplicity of the menu. One choice of main, a few sides and a handful of sauces. Perfect for those of us who either canāt decide which of the 50 choices we want or who decisively want THE LOT (hello), resorting to the frantic menu-scanning-before-panic-ordering-when-waiter-arrives routine. Itās not a pretty sight.
There were a couple of specials available, a brisket cut and a rib eye to share, but we stuck to the classic flatirons. V got hers with a peppercorn sauce whilst I opted for Fredās sauce ā basically the contents of a Bloody Mary without the hair-of-the-dog booze.
Sorry Iāll get to the point: the steak tastes great. For a cheaper cut of meat itās really tender and full of flavour, and despite being a bit on the dinky side you cant help but be happy for the price. It comes very nicely presented on an individual chopping board carved into slices though so at least it looks a bit bigger. Plus as a bonus youāre given a mini cleaver instead of a steak knife to chop up your meat. Spend literally minutes entertaining yourself pretending to be an oversized Sweeney Todd as your other half looks on in pure disdain.
Dripping cooked chips were perfectly crunchy and salty although I was gutted we had only ordered one to share. The sides are definite one person portions; frankly thereās only so many times you can distract someoneās attention before they twig that youāre after your chip quota.
The broccoli (āmarket greensā) didnāt do much to alleviate the situation ā boiled and bunged in a bowl, the florets didnāt taste of much. Also not sure why they bother with the microscopic house salad, itās barely worth forking it out of the cup. You do get free popcorn while youāre waiting though so swings and roundabouts.
Flatiron feels classy without even trying. The staff are friendly without crossing into childrenās tv presenter mode, the food uncomplicated and well cooked. And Iāve not established who this Fred is yet but his sauce is smashing. Definitely worth a visit ā do it for the vegetarians.
Had been here once before. Went down to have a cocktail while we were waiting and it was yummy and reasonably priced for London. Got put on the table and was sitting very close the Ā people next to us so that was definitely a downside of the place.
Steak was medium rare my favourite and the bĆ©arnaise sauce was amazing. Chips were cooked to perfection. Salad dressing was lovely. Ā The popcorn to start was a great touch and I like how we got tap water as soon as we sat down. Our caramel chocolate brownie dessert was nice, waitress said to put a little bit of salt on it which was surprisingly goof!

Food: I originally went for their burgers, as I had heard they were amazing, though when I get there I find out that they don't have burgers everyday, it depends on what meat they were able to get that day. As disappointing as that was, it intrigued me because it ensured that their meat is as fresh as they come. They also have their special meats of the day, and thats what I had ordered from. I ordered the rump and it was delicious, you could cut through it so easily, and had such amazing flavour. Not to mention was served on the coolest wooden cutting board with the best knife ever (you'll see what I mean when you go). We also ordered the market's fresh veggies, that day it happened to be asparagus, which accompanied the meat well and made me leave feeling healthier than I would have otherwise (especially because I hadn't mentioned we ordered fries too of course). They also Ā have a variety of sauces to go with the meat, I personally recommend the peppercorn one, not the best peppercorn I've had in my life, but still very tasty.Ā
Value: For the quality and freshness of the food, the price tag is very low. So I was very pleased with the value that they offer.Ā
Would I go back?: Definitely, especially on a day that they have burgers. The meat was delicious, and the ambiance was very cool.
The only bad thing is that the restaurant is a bit loud. The steak is great, the service is impeccable, while the drinks downstairs are nice.

I arrived early to avoid queues on a rainy Monday afternoon with high expectations as Flat Iron's reputation is pretty high. And...it had not fail me!!
I walked straight through to the inner corner of the restaurant, there were stylish decorations on the wall with good privacy for two. Staff was friendly and helpful.
I ordered the classic flat iron steak with the BĆ©arnaise sauce, cooked Medium rare. It was tender, juicy and the quality of the steak is high given it only costs a tenner! Absolute bargain! The sauce was creamy, not too buttery and i prefer it to the Peppercorn sauce. The size of the steak is just right for me, perhaps slightly too small for an average fellow or maybe its just i eat too much?!
Chips and the creamed spinach is a must to compliment the steak. The creamed spinach was delicious but the chips were pretty average as it got soggy quite soon during the meal.
Overall speaking I would definitely recommend Flat Iron in terms of the food and the price. Go on weekdays to avoid tedious queues!!

Flat Iron is as simple as it gets in terms of their unique selling point: one choice, one price and only a couple of accompanying side dishes. Nestled deep in the heart of Soho, the queue snakes along the street with scores of impatient customers dying to try the increasingly renowned Flat Iron steak.
To avoid the wrath of a seemingly smiley but actually ferocious waitress, arrive early and with 'all your party present'. Latecomers, or those whose 'party is not complete' will be led down into the belly of this cosy institution, where a range of slightly whacky drinks are on offer.
Your fate is in complete control of a rather ugly little contraption with remarkable similarity to an electronic ladybird.
You'll be chatting away, minding your own business and all of a sudden it rears its ugly head and tells you its time to head upstairs, out of purgatory and into... Will I'll let you decide for yourselves.
As is very fashionable this days you sit on tables with fellow diners. Call me old fashioned but being forced to others' inane conversations, be it how Darren got wasted last night or how wonderful New York is at this time of year, darrrling, does make me nostalgic for the days that 'trendy, new London eatery' was not entirely synonymous was 'let's shove everyone together and create an intimate, urban experience'.

You are left to peruse the menu at leisure, although you might have guessed it doesn't take that long and a little salted popcorn goes down a treat.
The waiter will ask you just two questions: rare, medium or well done? and any sides with that?Ā
The creamed spinach is to die for. The steak is seasoned perfectly with flakes of salt and incredibly tender. Wine is served in tumblers and everything else on boards or in ceramic dishes.Ā Together with the exposed brickwork, this place screams urban chic.
The portion sizes aren't huge so if you're hungry make sure to get a few sides. It's still a very good meal for Ā£15 or Ā£20 with wine.

Worth the wait although it's not that cheap. Worth the Ā£10 if you don't get sides and wine.
Flat Iron is the go to for easy quick yummy steak without breaking the bank. The menu is simple, the sides are delicious. If you tend to eat a lot then maybe you need two portions but this is just perfect for me and the bf if we feel like having something substantial but in a very relaxed and cool environment. Try it sometime!
Nice cozy place,good service,great staff and not too heavy on the pocket either but the steaks aren't the most mindblowing in the world. If you do go their chips in the spinach dip is a must.

Very nice little restaurant with pleasant staff, the food was really good and tasty. This is really a "raw" meat/steak restaurant where the focus are on the food, they have also nice vegetables that can be ordered on the side of the meat which is also well prepared.Ā

I love a good steak but unfortunately it costs quite a bit to dig into high-quality beef in London- that is, unless you know where to look! Flat Iron in Soho serves up juicy steaks for the bargain price of Ā£10.The cut of beef they serve is obviously the āflat ironā, which is cut from the shoulder of a cow, and is deliciously tender and succulent. My friend and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon and we were lucky enough to get a seat before a queue started forming outside, because unfortunately Flat Iron is another one of those establishments which donāt take reservations.
Stepping into the dimly-lit restaurant, youāll be presented to your seat (which is a little bit uncomfortable to get on if youāre wearing a skirt or a dress- itās almost like sitting on the saddle of a horse or on a seesaw) and served water (without having to askā¦!) and a cup of popcorn (which is flavoured with beef dripping).Ā
As for the main menu, itās plastered all over the walls of the restaurant and isnāt hard to miss, and is separated into 3 sections: āSteakā, āSidesā, and āSaucesā. Ordering steak here is obviously a given, so all you have you to do is specify how youād like it cooked ā I chose medium rare, and the meat was cooked to perfection with a juicy pink centre-and wasnāt stringy/rough at all- it had a very nice consistency with just the right amount of chewiness before it melted into your mouth. A sprinkling of coarse sea salt and pepper further enhanced the natural meatiness of the steak. The steak also comes with a small side salad which I guess eases oneās guilty conscience when pigging out :)Ā
For sides, we opted for dripping cooked chips and creamed spinach- both of which Iāve tried before and thought they complemented the steak perfectly. I didnāt choose a sauce because I personally like the natural juices which exude from the meat itself.
I loved the little touches that made the eating experience more special, such as the meat cleavers, wooden boards for the steak, and rustic cups and bowls- I felt like it added to the overall charm of the restaurant :) My only complaint is that the menu doesnāt feature dessert- although Iāve heard that they occasionally serve doughnuts at the bar downstairs, which isnāt opened during lunchtimes.
Best value steak in London always take friends that are visiting here & have never been disappointed. Ā£10 for a perfectly cooked steak what more could you want? Great house red but it is served in tumblers which can annoy some people.

Most of you have probably heard of Flat Iron, in fact theyāve been making such an impression that they now have a second restaurant. However, if you havenāt, all you need to know is that this place does a pretty mean steak.
In a market where steak restaurants have saturated the field; Gaucho, Hawksmoor,and Roxie Steakhouse to name only but a fewā¦itās pretty difficult to find one with character, decent prices, and incredible food.
I went to Flat Iron recently with a group of friends, one of which had been before. I heard great things; āgreat value for moneyā and the ābest steak Iāve hadā; those are all things we hear, often. But, he wasnāt wrongā¦
We made our way down to Beak Street, it was a tiny shop front with school-esque benches inside ā to be honest with you, it did look a little cramped. It has a ridiculously quick turn around, and I guess itās not the kind of place you would go for a really long catch up; more of the quick in and out visit.
So of course Iāve been speaking about steak, Flat Iron is all about steak. When I went, there was actually a burger on the menu as well ā but when in Rome youāre not going to order a curry, right? The rustic wood, metal, and a menu mounted on a wall sized clip board helps give this place a rustic feel that really goes with the way in which the steak is served; on a hot stone; it seems that the 80ā²s has made a come back.
So letās get down to business, the steak I ordered was accompanied by a house leaf salad ā which is very refreshing, crunchy and harsh in taste with a mustard dressing. All I know is it went well with the steak, and naturally I didnāt leave it at that as I also ordered the dripping cooked chips, and the peppercorn sauce.
Iām not sure if I was in to the dripping cooked chips, they just tasted a bit too much like fat for me ā not that Iām super healthy or anything, it just didnāt work. But that peppercorn sauce, God damn, if I could take a bath in it ā I would. It was beautifully rich and creamy, that even the tiniest of pots lasted me my whole steak; a big flavour.
Now the steak; it wasnāt a huge portion, but itās definitely the perfect size for one person. It was beautifully cooked rare/medium, and practically melted in my mouth. Iāve only ever had pork do that, but this hunk of sexy beef literally melted in my mouth; it was something special, I tell you.
But, itās not just the ambience or food that excelled ā the service surpassed everything Iāve ever experienced. They helped recommend, were very swift, and even gave us a bit of a discount (which we didnāt even want) when she realised herself she kept us waiting for a bit. Totally understand now why they have such a loyal fan base. All of this for just under Ā£14, what a steal.
We canāt wait to try the one on Denmark Street, next. I just hope they have their iconic Flat Iron meat cleaver.

Flat iron is straight up an awesome awesome restaurant. There steaks are enormous and the price you pay is excellent value considering how fricken big their steaks are. I was also a fan of the decor - they've got a pretty sweet style going on, and good gracious there wine list is good. The burger they had on special looked unreal, man I wish I had got that.
A couple of criticisms though.. 1. There are only two things on the menu.. Two! Come on, offer a bro a salad or some chicken or something. 2. There can be super, super long queues. Why are restaurants too cool to take reservations these days?
But seriously, eat here, it would be a misteak not to.

ā¢ There are a couple of buzz words that have resurfaced of late ā cheap eats! Time out had their cover story dedicated to the subject a while back. We even went to ZĆ©del off the back of their list, but sadly for us, it was a case of you get what you pay for.
But luckily Flat Iron has restored our faith that you can get a decent meal with a ācheap eatā price tag. Add to this the fact that itās a steak restaurant, and you can understand why there is always a queue. Named after the cut of beef (the shoulder or chunk) not after the iconic New York building close to where I proposed to the other half of We Love Food. The restaurant is set over three floors, the basement level being the bar area, where youāre asked to head to whilst waiting for your table.
This barās decor is a little building siteā¦ Exposed brickwork (very exposed at the back) basic tables, a fantastic old wooden work-bench and a huge block of ice (which gets chipped into your drink) on the counter.

On Saturday a male friend (hereafter J) and I went shopping. He is starting a new job in January and enlisted my help to buy suits, shirts and ties. In addition to my keen sartorial eye he also needs someone to shop with as he is colour blind and left to his own devices would probably have purchased the many lurid ties he held up (including a delightful mustard yellow one. Um. No.)
After some rather heated debates, J and I headed down into Soho to Flat Iron. A just steak place that made a name for itself as a pop up restaurant in East London over the summer, it has now found small but permanent premises on the lovely Beak Street. Given the couple of rave reviews I had read I was worried it would be overflowing, but there was only one other group there. However as it was only 5 days old at the time, and I am guessing more appealing for dinner (there is a cocktail bar downstairs), that can be forgiven. The very charming staff ushered us inside and sat us on one of the long wooden benches. I can imagine it being rather snug if full. As we sat down we were given a tin mug of salty beef dripping popcorn. Iām not sure J got a chance to eat much of it. The menu is very simple ā flat iron steak and a side salad for Ā£10, a choice of 5 sides at Ā£2 ā Ā£4 each (we chose the dripping cooked chips and Sophieās salad) and 4 sauces at Ā£1 each (we had Bearnaise and fresh horseradish cream). I like this trend for simple menus (see The Chicken Shop). Plus, after spending the morning shopping and making decisions it is quite nice to give your right parietal cortex (yes I did just Google that) a rest. We also ordered a carafe of Merlot which was robust enough to go with the steak.
The food came quickly and my first impression was how well it was all presented. The steak came served on a cast iron board with a little tumbler of salad on the side. Medium rare as standard it was a lovely shade of pink, perfectly cooked and juicy. Cut from the shoulder and with the grain it can be slightly tougher than other cuts but this was very tender. It was kept simple with most of the flavour coming from the sauces and chips, with their crisp meaty skin. Sophieās salad was a lovely combination of blue cheese, caramelised pecans and slices of apple. The only criticism I could find with the food was that the side salad was over dressed. That was it. Otherwise it was steak perfection.
Anywhere that is just offering one thing has to get the details right. And just like The Chicken Shop, they did. From the cleavers instead of knives, to the creative presentation, to the lovely, very camp, waiter who showed me to the loo so enthusiastically he almost came in with me, they did just that.

One spontaneous rainy evening, five of us ventured into Soho in search of good food. After a quick drink in Two Floors on Carnaby Street, we headed south and stumbled upon Flat Iron, a minimalist steakhouse hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of Central London.
We were greeted by a friendly patron who advised that the wait would be around 90 minutes. Luckily, we were able to leave a telephone number and we headed over to a local pub (The Old Coffee House).
Over 90 minutes and one packet of crisps later, we still hadn't received a call. We headed back to Flat Iron and they asked us to wait in the bar downstairs with a buzzer. 5 minutes later, the table was finally ready!
Flat Iron is a very intimate venue with minimalist decor. Long wooden benches form the majority of the tables which are decorated accordingly with tea lights and quirky cutlery! The atmosphere is reminiscent of a hipster restaurant in SoHo, NYC (Back Forty West springs to mind).
We were given small cups of popcorn as an appetiser whilst we decided what to order.
The menu is very small but the main star of the show is it's trademark Flat Iron Steak. I ordered this (medium) with 2 sides (Dripping Cooked Chips & Creamed Spinach), one sauce (Peppercorn), and a drink (Dandelion & Burdoch).
For a Ā£10 steak, we were all surprised by the quality. The meat was seasoned well, cooked to perfection and very tender. The peppercorn sauce complimented the steak and the delicious sides brought the whole thing together.
There was only one thing on the dessert menu, a delicious salted caramel mousse, but the light and airy texture was perfect to cleanse the palate and complete the meal.
The bill came to under Ā£25 per person for a main, dessert, drink and service. Flat Iron is incredibly good value for money and despite the queue length, an excellent alternative to popular steakhouses such as Hawksmoor.
Really nice place, very busy but great service getting us a table. Food was really tasty, if a little salty, and a good price. Cool features like free popcorn and an alarm when your table is ready are nice to

This is getting a 5.0 from me. Fantastic value for money and amazing food! The steak is well cooked. However, if you are particular about the type of cut you want, you will be disappointed as they provide just the shoulder of the cow. I had it medium rare, it had so much flavour! The dripping chips as a side and the creamed spinach complement the steak extremely well. Service is extremely good, we were seated in 5 minutes, served in another 10. Altogether, Ā£40 for 3 sides, 2 steaks and 2 non-alcoholic sides are a bargain for the food here. In fact, this is definitely going to be my regular steak place as I can't afford Hawksmoor and Cut often :) However, they do have only one kind of steak on the menu and a special, so please don't go in expecting a variety of steaks. Give this place a go - you certainly won't be disappointed!
A small edit to include the fact that they have the best burger in London (so far). The BĆ©arnaise Burger is cooked to perfection and somehow manages to be juicy and tender on the inside whilst crispy on the outside. If this is a special when you visit, pick this over the steak if you have space only for one of the two!

Flat Iron does not take reservations and when I first sampled it, it had been gaining an increasing amount of social media buzz and queues were definitely a worry. So with that in mind we start this tale with me rushing across the city from Tower Hill, intent on arriving just in time to ensure that queuing in the cold was not an option that my dinner guest and I had to consider!
To my delight my manic dash paid off as the lower floor was full to the brim already and it was only 6:15pm! Fear not though as the upstairs was empty and waiting. My friend joined me not long after and the room was soon filling up. Before any chatter commenced we were presented with a complimentary mug of Beef Dripping Popcorn, which was incredibly addictive and polished off in minutes. We then ordered a bottle of Bethnal Pale Ale & Shoreditch Blonde to wet our whistles, whilst we decided on our choices for dinner.
As you can tell from the pictures you are about to see, Flat Iron is quite dimly lit. Apologies for the photo quality in advance. If there is one thing I can not stand it is poor quality photography, which is why I gave up towards the end. However, for Flat Iron, I think the lighting works in its favour and adds to the atmosphere. Giant menus hang from the walls and all guests are seated on long wooden tables, next to other diners, so the lighting adds some privacy. However if you are on a date please take note that you can still be seen and not everyone wants to share in your overly enthusiastic scenes of PDA!
The great thing about Flat Iron is that they specialise in one thing and one thing only, you've guessed it, steak! There was the option of a delicious sounding special, the Slow Cooked Beef Belly but we thought we'd have to go with their signature dish. I ordered the Flat Iron Steak with Dripping Cooked Chips and the Peppercorn Sauce. Check out the seriously cool mini meat cleavers too! A small but very much appreciated touch I think.
The trademark Flat Iron Steak arrived, looking exactly like the image on the landing page of the website. Sliced into thin pieces, juicy and beautifully cooked to a medium rare perfection. I seasoned with rock salt and then sampled my first bite. Now I rarely get excited about steak, I feel like I can make a good go of it at home and so never bother with one in a restaurant. I imagine many of you are disgusted at this idea but that's just me. However this was probably one of my favourite steak experiences. The meat literally fell apart in my mouth and was incredibly succulent. It just got better too as dipping slabs of the steak into the Peppercorn Sauce took it to an extra level, acting as the perfect accompaniment.
The Dripping Chips carried on where the popcorn left off, providing a delicious and different take on a food that has seen many transformations by other establishments recently. Again dunking these into the pot of Peppercorn Sauce produced extreme levels of satisfaction.
We ordered a couple more beers to help see off the remainder of the meal and then turned our minds to dessert. We were aware that there was a cocktail bar and had caught wind that they sold the infamous St.John's donuts down there too so decided to skip pudding and venture down to the basement floor. The cocktail bar was already quite full but we managed to grab a table. For the life of me I can not remember the names of the cocktails we had. All I know is that they were bloody good and nice and strong! We both went for a rhubarb jam and custard donut, tossed in sugar and served with its contents oozing out on to the plate. No surprises to find that it was absolutely delicious and although a strange addition to have with a cocktail, a thoroughly enjoyable finale to what had been a superb dining experience!
Flat Iron didn't falter once from start to finish and has cemented itself as one of my favourite eateries that I have had the pleasure of enjoying over the past few months. I can definitely see why they have been surrounded in social media buzz and encountered such high praise. I shall definitely be returning as soon as possible and will be watching with great intrigue to see how Flat Iron continues to evolve their already immensely successful concept.

Flat Iron is no longer a restaurant, it's an attraction.
Where I am from, to have such a high quality steak meal at a restaurant there is only one choice of restaurant and it's a chain (yep, fat cat) which I try to avoid like the plague and also the prices are beyond ridiculous!
However, Flat Iron serves up the most incredible cuts of steak for Ā£10. The steak melts in your mouth every time, especially with their Peppercorn sauce.
The portion sizes are very reasonable and all steaks are served with a small pot of salad; I still always order a side salad, creamed spinach and fries on the side!
For steak lovers living on a budget who enjoy a fun diving experience, Flat Iron is for you!
An interesting place. I like the decor and little touches with the menu, cutlery and presentation. The price was good and food was above average. Especially liked the creamed spinach and peppercorn sauce.
Came here on a Tuesday evening, which was lucky as it doesn't do reservations and we got a seat easily. You get seated at tables in very close proximity to strangers so maybe avoid if you hate that!
However the food is amazing, the steak was to die for and the chips were yum. Try the rose lemonade as well, it's delish.
We did enjoy the food and the place. We could talk a lot, laugh. About the food and quality prize, happy with it too
I like the kinds who do limited but do it well. Flat Iron is one of them. The Steak. Is. Brilliant.
Since it's soaring in popularity because of the good food and fantastic price (Ā£10 - although the portions were little smaller than what I expected, nonetheless we didn't leave hungry) we had to wait for a while at the bar downstairs, we were happy doing so sipping the cocktails and nibbling the popcorn and chips (even they were awesome)
The overall atmosphere is very chilled out; it's a good place to have a fun night out. Could get little cramped for few. Oh yes, the service is very pleasant.
Finish your dinner with the salty caramel mousse. Just the perfect end.
Going on a date with someone who takes forever scouring over the menu trying to decide what to eat? Take them here and be done with it! They have no choice. Meat. The only option they will have to decide is how to cook it... that shouldn't be too hard I hope. This is a great fun and relaxed restaurant with lovely staff. No booking though. So play your cards right! Get in there before the suits do...

After a series of successful pop-ups during the summer last year, Flat Iron have finally set up a permanent home in Beak Street just off Carnaby Street.
I've always been a sucker for dark, intimate spaces; and Flat Iron doesn't disappoint with it's exposed brick walls, soft candle-light and limited seating.
So what is the flat iron steak ?
This cut of meat comes from the cow's shoulder; or more precisely it is the flat muscle off the shoulder blade, which is very cheap to buy and seriously underused.
For only Ā£10, the Flat Iron Steak is served with leaf salad.
You are given the choice of 4 sides ranging from Dripping cooked chips, Creamed Spinach, Market Greens, Sophie's Salad and Roasted Aubergines for Ā£2.50-3.50.
Plus Ā£1 for sauces ~ Bearnaise, peppercorn etc.
Verdict?
Steak:
The steak was presented to me cooked perfectly medium rare; so pink and still juicy.
But I found the steak although it was tender, it was rather chewy and dare I say alittle lacking in flavour, and I had to resort to sitting there masticating for awhile.
My accomplice had to demolish the rest of the steak for me.
Sides:
The chips were hollow and dry, and tried to escape the wrath of my fork as I tried to impale them - so that peppercorn sauce was seriously needed.
Overview:
Like many of the other no reservation restaurants, come here early to avoid an arduously long wait. However, you are welcome to wait in the bar downstairs.
I really wanted to fall in love with Flat Iron, but the food didn't make me quiver in pleasure as much as I wanted it to.
Having said that I did really like the ambiance, the service was faultless plus where else are you going to find steak for Ā£10 in central London?

If you are going to do one thing make sure you do it well, and Flat Iron have certainly achieved that. A lot places are running simplified menus, and Flat iron certainly takes this to the extreme, serving up just steak, and only flat iron (a cut from the shoulder) at that. The beef dripping chips are some of the best I've had in London as well. This is definitely not a place for veggies with even the free popcorn made from beef dripping.
At Ā£10 for steak it's astounding value for it's location in between Carnaby street and Reagent's street.

First plus was the staff, I got promptly seated and ordered food and drinks in double quick time..
Ordered my standard Flat Iron steak done medium, and within 10 minutes, it was in front of me looking ready to be attacked!!
As a side, I ordered the Truffle mac'cheese.. I highly recommend this as a side cause it was spot on.. I almost ordered another portion... So delicious!!! š.
The staff were great tho' relaxed and chatty and they genuinely cared how the food was, and if everything was satisfactory.....which it was thanks.š..
Also, some great little extra touches on the table with the little chopping knife and salt grinders... It was a great lunch, and I look forward to my next visit when I'm in Soho again..

Delicious steak cooked to perfection! Donāt bother ordering a sauce because the meat is perfect without it!! The Crispy Bone Marrow Garlic Mash was a treat for me tastebuds! Perfect meal! The staff was professional, friendly, and helpful! If you have a chance to sit at the bar with Claudiaā¦ her suggestions, cocktails, and conversation are a perfect accompaniment for the evening!

The menu slipped off the table and I was really impressed that the wait staff replaced it with a clean one before we ordered. Half bottle of wine = half the price of a full bottle. Excellent. The ice cream at the end was such a treat.

Had lunch here while on holiday in London. Steak was wonderful. For the side we got the creamy spinach. Excellent food, wonderful service and great location.
Wonderful experience at Flat Iron! Steak is great, highly recommend the truffle mac&cheese. Music is a bit loud, so prepare for a noisy place. A great vibe for a night out with friends!
Nice restaurant in Soho, Ldn š¬š§
A local friend of mine mentioned this place, and we were not disappointed, although we came in to have lunch very late the staff was very welcoming, at our disposal, some popcorns are offered to you when you arrive, then we had the steak with 2 different side dishes, everything tasted very good (especially the French fries!).
And at the end you also get an ice cream.
The prices are more than correct, Iāll definitely be back.
